@Arawn93 Oh I'm aware. I just said it's what I would've liked to see. And VF5 REVO is still a new release with decent net code, and VF6 has been announced, so there is some renewed interest in the series.
Not interested personally. I just never liked Shadow as a character. He's just a design by committee character that was meant to be even edgier than Sonic, who was already an "edgy" character. And I say this as someone who bought and enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 on day one back in the day with the Sonic 10th anniversary preorder bonus.
Huh, the most shocking thing about this update is discovering that the game launched without 60fps in the first place. Mega oof. Better late than never of course, but they should have delayed the game until it was ready.
@drypaphmrbro More like a disability issue due to my arthritis. It's far easier and more comfortable for me to use B and Y for action buttons than A and B.
I ended up skipping this one because I heard that they mapped the controls to A and B rather than the more obvious B and Y, with no option to change it in the game. I hate using the system level button remapping feature. Nintendo is one of the few developers in the industry that still doesn't feature basic options in their games.
Thank the shmup gods that this got a release outside of Japan! This game is infamously inaccessible! I have it emulated on my Steam Deck, but even that requires some work arounds due to official support for it being pulled from MAME. Just immediately bought the Switch version to support releases like this. Absolutely fantastic!
This shouldn't surprise anyone who has been paying attention over the last few months. Prison Princess 2, REDNEG ALLSTARS, and now these games. All canceled recently for this reason. Nintendo has definitely changed their stance on games with suggestive content this year.
Love me a classic style beat'em up. But really not interested at all in this license specifically. I didn't like this show back in the day, and still have no interest in it.
I've played this game a lot through emulation, and it is fantastic, as expected from the series. Definitely a different visual vibe though compared to earlier entries. Will buy this immediately if it gets a release outside of Japan. I'm not hopeful though. Cave just really seems to not want players outside of Japan to enjoy this series.
People are not prepared for how difficult this game's later half is. Easily the most difficult turn-based RPG I've ever played in my life. And I've been playing them since Dragon Warrior on the NES. That said, I loved the challenge! You seriously need to prepare for and strategize for each boss fight in the later parts of the game. Which is a refreshing change of pace compared to other RPGs that allow you to reuse the same tactics for each boss.
Just played through the PC version of the game on my Steam Deck. The main boss rush mode anyway. And of the 31 girls featured, only three of them had a laughably huge chest, and none of them were shown in any offensive capacity that I can discern.
Sounds like the same issue that happened with Prison Princess 2. Nintendo seems to have changed their stance on lewd content on Switch outside of Japan.
@MetalKingShield If you're looking for a really good looking 2D version of the game, you should try the SNES version. It's honestly the best looking version of DQIII, even including this remake in my opinion. The SNES version was never released officially outside of Japan, but there's a great fan translation of it out there.
A shame that they changed the visual style away from HD-2D like it was in the original reveal trailer. It looks so much more generic now, basically like Eiyuden Chronicles. Simple 3D backgrounds, with high res 2D sprites for the characters. Previous HD-2D games had their entire visual design built around a pixel-art aesthetic. Now only the characters follow that direction.
Still, it's Dragon Quest III, so the game itself is incredible. You really can't go wrong by playing it.
Really looking forward to this one, though I'm not sure when I'll get to it since I'm playing Ys X still at the moment, and there's no way I'll finish it in time for this game.
@AayJay Believe it or not, the d-pad is actually extremely good. Way better than the d-pad on the Switch Pro controller (and way better than an actual GCN controller's d-pad). It "looks" cheap/bad, but in practice it's legit. It's actually the analog sticks that have issues unfortunately (see my post above).
I have one of these, and it's...mostly good. The biggest issue by far is that the analog sticks are not designed with the octagonal gate in mind. It kills the range of the stick in ways that an actual GCN controller's octagonal gate does not. For example, in Smash, it's super difficult for characters that can crawl to actually do so (you go from ducking to walking if you hold down and try to tilt the stick just enough to crawl). You need to use to the circular gate for moves like that to work properly with this controller. And if you're selling yourself as a GCN style controller, that kind of stuff needs to work properly.
The PC version also had insane technical issues when it launched. It's been a long time since I tried it, so I can't speak to how it is now, but at the time it was horrendously broken even on PC.
Really don't like the change to the main character(s). The only thing wrong with the original game was its dumb sounding name, not the characters. And this had to be one of the worst handled Kickstarters of all time. This released six years after it was supposed to. Just a catastrophic failure of project management.
I've only played Like a Dragon (the turn-based RPG), and that game also had insane difficulty spikes. A shame that the series started that way, and they never fixed it.
Sadly, just not a series for me since I don't have anyone to play these games with. I haven't touched a Mario Party game since the original released on the N64.
It's not enough to keep me from playing the game, but it is absolutely terrible. When I heard that this is the first Zelda game without Miyamoto in the credits, it honestly made sense after seeing how the game's performance is all over the place. Feels like something that he would have forced them to polish up more before shipping the game.
@Clammy Honestly, I think the people saying that the frame rate isn't a problem are the more likely people to be pirating the game. I could see playing the game on an emulator fixing the frame rate issues the game has.
Based on my time with it so far, I'd say 7/10. Easily my least favorite Zelda game after the NES games so far. Between the frame rate and the genuinely terrible menu system, I haven't been enjoying myself nearly as much as previous Zelda games.
Genuinely astonishing how hideous the new visuals are in this. The original had great pixel art, but this is just chasing the visual styling of Streets of Rage 4 without the artistic and animation talent that game had to back it up.
@trcsf FYI: Frame rate is important, because it directly impacts gameplay and the entire game experience. I'll never understand people who just pretend that it's not important. It is. Just because you don't personally care about it, doesn't mean that other people don't care about it. Any review that doesn't cover it (good or bad), would be failing their duty to readers.
Major bummer about the frame rate issues. That was such a pervasive issue in the Link's Awakening remake and really dragged that game down a ton. Honestly a little hesitant on this one now. I'm also still not really sold on the echoes mechanic. It just doesn't feel like it would be fun in practice to me.
Pro tip: Don't announce your game if it's more than two years out from release. Also fire your project manager if your game gets delayed by more than a year.
Genuinely shocking that this is 60fps on Switch! I didn't think WayForward knew how to do that anymore on the platform. Heck, Contra was only 30fps even on PS4. You needed the PS5 to finally get that game running at 60fps.
Honestly, I don't think there can be another "Skyrim" moment again with the advent of handheld PCs like the Steam Deck. Back in the day when the Switch was new, it was shocking to see something like Skyrim running on a handheld. But these days, that kind of thing isn't really something that impresses anymore since it's pretty common place now.
A company as big as Nintendo should be including english voice work for all of their releases that include voice acting. It's actually insulting to their customers that they don't do it. I can give a pass on that with smaller publishers, but not a mega corp like Nintendo. I still enjoyed the previous games, but that was the biggest issue I had with them.
I'm going to wait and see how the PC version runs on Steam Deck first. If it runs better there, I'll probably give the game a shot. Otherwise I'll probably pass on it.
For the record, the demo for this game was really really damn good. And that demo is like over two years (almost three years?) old, so the game has likely improved a ton since then.
