Re: Soapbox: Can We Please Retire The Phrase 'Lazy Devs' Already?

I prefer to use untalented or apathetic devs/publishers. When you release something like the ActRaiser remake, and it has incredibly stuttery scrolling in the action stages due to a 50fps camera bug. That's a problem that any competent or caring developer/publisher would have immediately noticed and ensured was fixed before launch. You don't release a broken product like that with people who care behind the wheel.

Re: Review: Yoshi's Story - Pleasant, But Not A Patch On The Dinosaur's Best

I was never a fan of this game. Yoshi's Island was one of my all time favorite SNES games. So I bought this game on day one at the time, and boy was it a disappointment! Shockingly bad compared to its predecessor. In a vacuum, one could make a case for the game being decent, but as a follow up to one of the greatest platformers of all time, it was beyond disappointing.

@imgrowinglegs For me it was selecting things in the environment only worked half the time. It was common to have to press the confirm button 2 or 3 times before it actually worked (they have since fixed that in patch updates).

The other issue was that there was an incredibly easy to encounter soft lock within the first 30 minutes of the game. I hadn't saved yet, and I had to start a completely new game again because of it. It was where you talk to that girl in your apartment building. After she left and went into her own apartment, her dialog prompt would show up again even though she wasn't there anymore. Selecting it would start the sequence with her again, but the game would soft lock part way through it.

Re: Soapbox: Wave Race 64 Is Now 25 Years Old, And It Still Rules

I absolutely loved this game back in the day. I got it day one, and played the heck out of it. It's a bit of a shame that it doesn't hold up super well today because it only runs at 20fps, but it's still a fun ride to bust out every now and then.

That said, I feel that it must be said that Wave Race Blue Storm on the Gamecube is soooo much better. That game is a masterpiece.

The frame pacing for the horizontal scrolling in the action levels is so bad. It bothered me immediately upon playing it.

I also strongly recommend that everyone turn off the environmental effects option, because the frame rate is abysmal with it turned on.

A shame that the visuals are so bad as well. The first level in particular reaches insane levels of ugliness. Thankfully later levels come out looking better.
