Re: Atari 50 Game List - Every Playable Game In The Anniversary Celebration, Expanded Edition

Lone_Beagle

Wow - not in a good way - I bought the original because I wanted my top 2 Jaguar games, Cybermorph and Tempest 2000. I was hoping the next release would have something just as worthy, but no, just the shovel-ware people didn't like 30 years ago.

When they get around to releasing Iron Soldier, or Alien vs. Predator, or the unreleaesed Skyhammer (or even the CD games) let me know.

Oh wait, I'm already emulating all those games lol. For the record I still have my original Jaguar **and** CD, so, I'm not going to tolerate this "drip out a couple of titles and collect USD $50 when I already have the games and can play them, and have them preserved via emulators.

Re: Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid Is Getting A Local Switch Release This August

Lone_Beagle

@Anti-Matter I pretty much only buy physical carts for my Switch. I pretty much only buy digital titles if they are on sale at Steam. I see this is available on Steam right now, the sale price is only USD$36 ($44 with DLC) so I'm gonna just wait until it is under USD$10.

@tanaka2687 They already released this on PC, and the English translation is already coming to PC. This is a case of the publisher "double-dipping" and looking for max profits. Surely they could take a hit of 5 bucks or so to make a certain amount of physical games, or is that going to hurt their profits too much? And if gamers buy only digital, then this turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy, i.e., physical releases are going to go extinct.

Re: Two Classic ARPG Fantasy Games Are Coming To Switch In A New Collection

Lone_Beagle

@Sparkus The games were really good , ahem, 20 years ago.

Even back then the combat was kinda weird & janky, but the story, setting, and immersion was amazing.

It was originally a PC game, and would have been controlled with a mouse & kb. I have no idea how they would have adapted this to a modern controller.

TL;DR -> wait for some YT video reviews, watch closely and ask questions if something needs clarification.

Personally, I have these on Steam already, and don't really feel a need to buy another copy.

Re: Capcom Celebrates Dragon's Dogma 2 Launch With 'Dark Arisen' eShop Sale

Lone_Beagle

@-wc- It's a Japanese take on a Western-style, "open-world"-ish RPG. Some things work, some things don't translate well. In a weird way, it is kind of like a cross between Skyrim & single-player Monster Hunter.

I love Skyrim, but find it sort of hard to get into Dragon's Dogma myself, for some reason. I've tried twice before, maybe I'll try again.

Re: Video: Super Mario RPG Gets Another Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & SNES)

Lone_Beagle

Like others have said, I have tried playing this game 3 separate times, and just could not get into it because of the old SNES graphics. Therefore, I'm looking forward to playing this on the Switch.

The funny part is, a lot of commenters are saying that the graphics still hold up. Contrast that with the remake of Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, where I found the "older" graphics to still be perfectly fine, and in some ways more charming, but the majority of people seemed to feel were better with the update. To each their own!

Re: Gothic Classic Is Bringing The 2001 Fantasy ARPG Over To Switch Next Month

Lone_Beagle

Gothic **was** an absolutely mind-blowingly great game, BUT...it is 20 years old now. All the good ideas have been taken by other games, and some of the "meh" ideas (like combat in Gothic) haven't been utilized again.

Without a remaster & update of some kind, I can see this falling flat, which would be a pity, as Gothic 3 absolutely deserves a remaster.

EDIT: 29 Euros? Are they out of their minds? The game is great, if they priced it at 15 or so, I think people would be able to overlook the PS2 graphics and give it a try, and actually enjoy it.

EDIT EDIT: Wow, so the PS5 is getting the remaster? Well, maybe I will buy one...

Re: Spindle Is A Zelda-Like Where You Play The Role Of Death... And A Pig

Lone_Beagle

@labsdex They literally did everything except mention Zelda in their description.

"We grew up with the NES and SNES and fell in love with the classics."

"We love the classic 2D top-down Action-Adventure games of the 16bit era and their dungeons: ."

"Each dungeon will have a unique quirk. Of course, you need your newly acquired skills for each boss in order to defeat him."

"With Spindle we would like to create a game that follows the essence of the games of the old times: A living world that tells an exciting story, packed with interesting NPCs, stories, and secrets."

There's even a fishing mini-game...

I actually don't have a problem with people "copying" as even Nintendo copied their ideas from others. As long as they do a good job, who cares? And for new game dev's, why not work with a more derivative clone of something everybody likes.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

Lone_Beagle

@vio Thanks! I have their SNES adapter that lets you use a WiiU Pro Controller as an SNES joypad and it works well. I always try to get genuine Nintendo controllers...but the reviews for the 8bitDo for both PC and Switch gaming are really good. I just am skeptical of reviews written when a 3rd party controller is released; I want to know how it holds up after 3+ months of regular usage.

Re: 'The Lost Records' Is A New Fan-Made Expansion That Brings Skyward Sword To Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Lone_Beagle

@Mariotag Technically, you don't have to pirate anything to play this. The emulator itself is ok, it was all reverse-engineered.

The game disks can be copied from your WiiU and dumped to a file that can then be transferred over to your computer...

So, no piracy necessary. This is how I play BotW on my PC, and let me tell you, man, it is nice playing BotW in 60fps.

How I wish Nintendo would up their hardware, so I could play in 60fps on Nintendo hardware, but, that is another topic.

Re: Best Nintendo 64 Games

Lone_Beagle

@carlos82 that, and another hit was their using the CRT scanlines as a form of anti-aliasing...brilliant idea at the time, but now with our flatscreens, contributes to the blockiness & graininess of the graphics.

For better or worse, most people would be better off playing the N64 games on an emulator. The problem is, not all run satisfactorily (still). Hopefully over the next 5 years, more can be done to make sure every game is emulated adequately.

Re: Anniversary: The Nintendo 64 Launched 25 Years Ago Today

Lone_Beagle

Yep, still have my N64 that I got on launch day, along with Super Mario 64.

Back then, we didn't have the internet generating all sorts of weirdness...can you imagine today, having to wait over 2 years for a Zelda to release for a new system? Oh, wait...we did that with BotW for the WiiU, lol
