@Dr_Lugae Exactly. Nintendo tells the story through gameplay, not exposition.
I much prefer playing the game and learning the story, or telling my own story, rather than listening to boring text or (even worse) long boring cut-scenes.
FWIW, Akka Arrh is a great game. I jokingly call it a relaxation-trance experience for ADHD people, it is strangely relaxing. And the visuals are brilliant!
@PessitheMystic The reviewer made some (in my opinion) sweeping judgments about the game, when it actuality the issues are more related to the outdated Switch hardware.
The game deserves to be judged on its merits; if there is a hardware issue that should be noted, but not necessarily counted as a negative to the game.
The Switch itself is over 7 years old; the chip and hardware design are even older. Game studios releasing games on PC and other platforms are likely going to find their game's performance hampered on the Switch, and that is just reality.
I have started playing this, so I haven't fully formed an opinion about the game. However, I disagree with listed "cons" :
1) I have no problems maintaing 60fps. Oh wait, I'm playing on my Steam Deck, lol 2) The 3D perspectives and models works great. I find nothing "muddy" about the colors or textures, but that could be because I am playing with a Steam Deck.
I also really like the whole "3D-ness" of the game. My only other game from this company was "Attack of the Friday Monsters" which was charming and very nicely done. I liked that games hand-painted backgrounds, but face it, that was a neat way of overcoming the 3DS hardware limitations.
Again, the Switch may have hardware limitations, but hopefully there will be further optimizations coming. Or, the Switch 2 will have more power. If you have a PC or Steam Deck (or similar), I'd highly recommend it!
I love Parasol Stars! But, when I saw, "bargain price" I thought like, USD$4.99.
10 bucks is a joke, I'm sticking with emulation.
Now, maybe if they put a bunch of the games together, like, Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble II, and Parasol Stars, then I'd shell out $10. I'm guessing they are going to dribble them all out, one at a time, for 10 bucks a piece, smh.
Wow - not in a good way - I bought the original because I wanted my top 2 Jaguar games, Cybermorph and Tempest 2000. I was hoping the next release would have something just as worthy, but no, just the shovel-ware people didn't like 30 years ago.
When they get around to releasing Iron Soldier, or Alien vs. Predator, or the unreleaesed Skyhammer (or even the CD games) let me know.
Oh wait, I'm already emulating all those games lol. For the record I still have my original Jaguar **and** CD, so, I'm not going to tolerate this "drip out a couple of titles and collect USD $50 when I already have the games and can play them, and have them preserved via emulators.
@Anti-Matter I pretty much only buy physical carts for my Switch. I pretty much only buy digital titles if they are on sale at Steam. I see this is available on Steam right now, the sale price is only USD$36 ($44 with DLC) so I'm gonna just wait until it is under USD$10.
@tanaka2687 They already released this on PC, and the English translation is already coming to PC. This is a case of the publisher "double-dipping" and looking for max profits. Surely they could take a hit of 5 bucks or so to make a certain amount of physical games, or is that going to hurt their profits too much? And if gamers buy only digital, then this turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy, i.e., physical releases are going to go extinct.
@eltomo I'm playing through Mystical Ninja 64 right now, on a PC emulator. At 60fps and 4x the standard resolution, it is beautiful; my favorite part is calling the dragon to travel from town to town, that really stands out!
Just gotta say, paying (again) for games I bought previously, and have been emulating for years, just seems to be encouraging publishers to keep pushing out old crap for $$$$$$ rather than developing new and fresh gameplay.
@-wc- It's a Japanese take on a Western-style, "open-world"-ish RPG. Some things work, some things don't translate well. In a weird way, it is kind of like a cross between Skyrim & single-player Monster Hunter.
I love Skyrim, but find it sort of hard to get into Dragon's Dogma myself, for some reason. I've tried twice before, maybe I'll try again.
Like others have said, I have tried playing this game 3 separate times, and just could not get into it because of the old SNES graphics. Therefore, I'm looking forward to playing this on the Switch.
The funny part is, a lot of commenters are saying that the graphics still hold up. Contrast that with the remake of Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, where I found the "older" graphics to still be perfectly fine, and in some ways more charming, but the majority of people seemed to feel were better with the update. To each their own!
I know the Switch version will be "sharper" but the video seems to go out of its way to make the GameCube version seem smudgier than it actually was. What kind of video hook-up were they using? If they need to borrow my component cables, I could lend them out, lol.
This is the same studio that did the **outstanding** job on the Quake II remaster. It will be available at up to 4k resolution, and 120fps on the PC, so I'm gonna go that route...what a classic game!
Gothic **was** an absolutely mind-blowingly great game, BUT...it is 20 years old now. All the good ideas have been taken by other games, and some of the "meh" ideas (like combat in Gothic) haven't been utilized again.
Without a remaster & update of some kind, I can see this falling flat, which would be a pity, as Gothic 3 absolutely deserves a remaster.
EDIT: 29 Euros? Are they out of their minds? The game is great, if they priced it at 15 or so, I think people would be able to overlook the PS2 graphics and give it a try, and actually enjoy it.
EDIT EDIT: Wow, so the PS5 is getting the remaster? Well, maybe I will buy one...
Lunchables are horridly unhealthy...taste like crap...can you imagine eating cheese, cold cuts, and crackers that have been sitting on a shelf for months or yearn? SHUDDERS
@labsdex They literally did everything except mention Zelda in their description.
"We grew up with the NES and SNES and fell in love with the classics."
"We love the classic 2D top-down Action-Adventure games of the 16bit era and their dungeons: ."
"Each dungeon will have a unique quirk. Of course, you need your newly acquired skills for each boss in order to defeat him."
"With Spindle we would like to create a game that follows the essence of the games of the old times: A living world that tells an exciting story, packed with interesting NPCs, stories, and secrets."
There's even a fishing mini-game...
I actually don't have a problem with people "copying" as even Nintendo copied their ideas from others. As long as they do a good job, who cares? And for new game dev's, why not work with a more derivative clone of something everybody likes.
With a Wii (or a GameCube & a Carby or other suitable HD connection) the original Windwaker still looks surprisingly good.
If you love Zelda and have not played Windwaker yet, DO IT! (here's hoping there will be a Switch remake soon, but let's face it...that is a very unrealistic hope).
@Matthew010 I got the physical hard back version in the US, it was really nice. Not only was the paper cover very nice, but the hardbound cover had a nice illustration imprinted, as did the inside cover flap.
TL;DR --> don't waste money on Kindle versions of books!
@vio Thanks! I have their SNES adapter that lets you use a WiiU Pro Controller as an SNES joypad and it works well. I always try to get genuine Nintendo controllers...but the reviews for the 8bitDo for both PC and Switch gaming are really good. I just am skeptical of reviews written when a 3rd party controller is released; I want to know how it holds up after 3+ months of regular usage.
@The_New_Butler It sounds like your really like the 8-bitdo pad. How long have you had it? I like it, but I always shy away from 3rd party controllers, because the quality is just never as good as it needs to be. TIA!

Re: Two Classic ARPG Fantasy Games Are Coming To Switch In A New Collection
@Sparkus The games were really good , ahem, 20 years ago.
Even back then the combat was kinda weird & janky, but the story, setting, and immersion was amazing.
It was originally a PC game, and would have been controlled with a mouse & kb. I have no idea how they would have adapted this to a modern controller.
TL;DR -> wait for some YT video reviews, watch closely and ask questions if something needs clarification.
Personally, I have these on Steam already, and don't really feel a need to buy another copy.
