We've already seen a handful of amazing Game Builder Garage creations from fans – such as a functioning version of Super Mario Kart and a recreation of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's 1996 prototype – but what can the software do in the hands of a tried and trusted game development legend?
Well, thankfully, Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai is on hand to answer that very question. Over on Twitter, Sakurai has shared a look at his own creation – a frantic looking shooter full of fast-paced enemies and explosions. In his tweet, Sakurai celebrates Game Builder Garage's release and explains that in the game he's created, shooting and accelerating are tied to the same button.
Things get a little deeper, too. In a follow-up tweet, Sakurai notes that you can make sharp turns when you're not accelerating, and that when the boss' health reaches less than half, it starts throwing out the purple discs and the tempo of the music increases. He hasn't shared the project's code so we can't check it out ourselves, sadly, but it sure looks fun!
Have you tried making any games in Game Builder Garage yet? Having much success? Let us know how you're getting on in the comments.

I haven't managed to get a good grip of it. It's wanting me to do things in ways that my head isn't quite in a position to figure out!!
I will, though. I just need to find time to fit it into my Dev Schedule!
Once I've released my 100th game in SmileBASIC (Should be Sunday) I'll give it a better chance.
Coming soon: Balan Wonderworld in Game Builder Garage but fun to play. (Well, stranger things happened).
Bet half the replies are people crying he’s building games in this and not spending his entire time creating unrealistic Smash Bros character DLC fighters.
Why would he not share it? Maybe he’s not quite done
It actually looks sweet and I really want the code for this, lol.
Enjoying messing around with it.
Is this the next Smash DLC character?
You sure Sakurai made this game? It has like zero fire emblem characters in it.
I don't own this game, can you share your creations online?
I just want an amiibo of that boss now.
Game Builder Garage Guy confirmed for Smash!
Is It possible to download this game or any other?
@Paulo @Bl4ckb100d Yes, you can enter an ID code for games or a programmer ID code (from what I understand).
He hasn’t shared any codes yet.
Discovered that there's a demo for GBG last night so I'll give it a go to decide whether or not to splurge of the full thing.
Kid Icarus Uprising 2 confirmed. Lol am I doing E3 right?
Who unlocked his leg shackles from the Smash Bros desk to give him time to do this?
@Tandy255 thanks!
@Jayenkai Can you please share what smilebasic games you've released? I'm just now realizing it might not have download codes like Game Builder Garage and Mario Maker, but I'm not sure. But I love many of the free games I've downloaded via Smilebasic on Switch. Off the top of my head "Gaswitch" is an awesome shooter, like a more fun and exciting Galaga (more colorful too).
I'm also loving Game Builder Garage. I haven't made much of anything, but the 3D Sonic World game, Bowser's Fury game, Super Hot game, and others are really fun short games.
@60frames-please big old list, right here, with download codes included.

@Jayenkai Thanks!
@Jayenkai I downloaded Hillside Conflict. It's really good! I love trying new versions of games like Artillery, Breakout, snake game, sokoban (I see you have one), pacman, lunar lander, tempest (not many imitators of that one!), etc. Would it be possible to make something like Kingdom New Lands or Party Golf in Smilebasic?
@60frames-please I couldn't do it under AGameAWeek rules, but .. yeah, sure people could do things like that.
SmileBASIC is much more freeform than GameBuilder appears to be.
All it takes is time and effort. And, for all the effort I put into my games, time is severely lacking!!
@Jayenkai Yeah, being more freeform seems to also include being more intimidating. I'm assuming I won't ever get shoot em ups from Game Builder Garage that are as good as the many excellent smilebasic shooters. But Game Builder Garage is also easy enough that I enjoy messing around with it. I've never tried to code anything with smilebasic. Also, I really like the friendly chatting of the nodons.
@Jayenkai Your downloads are impressive! How do you do it? I've always been interested in SmileBasic, but didn't want to code tapping out letters with my stylus...
Can you share any source code? Thanks!
@Lone_Beagle I also couldn't cope with stylus-typing, which is why, as much as I loved the idea of SmileBASIC, I didn't make much on the DS/3DS editions.
In the newer Switch edition (May 2019) however, you can attach a USB keyboard, so everything is instantly much much better.
If you open the projects you can view the code, but.. be aware, I'm writing games at a very fast rate, and making my code neat, tidy and readable, is definitely not a priority for me!!
@Jayenkai Thanks! I saw your webpage, it was very helpful and interesting!
