Re: Switch Sales Pace Almost Identical To That Of Nintendo 3DS After Same Time Period

It's "ancient history" now, but the first year the Wii was out, you literally could never find it in stores...it took them about a year to finally be able to manufacture enough to meet the demand (which is why Switch sales at first match the Wii, but then drop).

Another factor to remember: in 2006, there was no iPhone (or any smart phone). You really only had either Nintendo or Sony handhelds, consoles, or PC's...I don't think we'll ever see console or handheld sales like we did with the Wii or DS again.

It's very interesting to get "behind-the-scenes" info about the debates/ideas going on in the production of a game. I think Nintendo is striking the right balance between "too easy" and "too difficult." Obviously, they won't please everyone which is why we have the comments section here to moan and complain

I'm playing the original right now! There was nothing wrong with the GameBoy graphics, at all! It is still quite charming...can't wait to see the remaster on the Switch. This looks nice, but a bit too derivative...it looks exactly like Http (which I guess is what they wanted? idk).

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

@Gs69 That is basically the future everyone predicts for console gaming. Especially for Microsoft and Sony, they sell their consoles at a loss...they predict that the next generation or the one after it, you will just have a "streaming device" that is basically a terminal for running the game. That way, they can save on designing and manufacturing consoles.

Also, the big companies are leaving money on the table by letting resellers take a cut, you can keep 100% of the profits if you sell digital only through an eStore.

I think Nintendo is a bit different culturally, so we will see them hang on longer. But for Sony and Microsoft, the writing is on the wall.

just my opinion --> applying the "24 hour news cycle" to video game development is just idiotic. Most often, there just is not that much going on.

The one thing the internet is good for is for indy game development --> it really allows for word of mouth to boost these games. Also, YouTube for some various tips and tricks & hints, but by and large, we would be better off reading a monthly magazine.
