Re: Blizzard Merges With Vicarious Visions, The Company Behind Tony Hawk And Crash Bandicoot Remakes

@vanYth @masterLEON Wow, glad to hear others enjoyed it...I actually got the full copy of Terminus from a UK dealer, sent to me in the US! I keep a copy running on a Win7 machine, and on my current Mac using CrossOver...sadly, the Windows version is easier to use now than the Mac version.

If you ever fire it up again, I could potentially use my Win7 machine as a server! lol

Here is a great abandonware site, if anybody is interested:

Vicarious Visions made one of my favorite computer games (that nobody has ever heard of): Terminus (it's a space sim).

This constant merger-ing into mega-corps means that (like EA) nobody will be interested in making a game unless they get "at least (this) amount of profit" and annual revenues from micro-transactions. As @Tourtus said, we will see less creative variety...

@Brumblescope I bought a modded GBA. Honestly, by the time you price the replacement screen & other things (like a new shell, buttons, etc.) you can usually find modded GBA's that are not that much more than the cost of those items, plus the base price for the GBA.

As @brunojenso mentioned, the LCD IPS screens for the GBA are far superior than the original DSLite screens, and so are better than a Gameboy Macro.Be aware that soldering the connections so that you can adjust the brightness might be tricky if you don't have experience. The PSP and emulation of a GBA could also be a good and less expensive option. Honestly, I always really liked the GBA ergonomics, but the PSP isn't bad and also lets you emulate other game systems as well.

Be aware that with Flash carts, the EZ-FLASH Omega sucks the life out of batteries. The Krikzz flash cart is a bit more expensive, but a lot easier on batteries.

One of my biggest regrets was missing the multiplayer for this game before Nintendo shut down the servers. I'm another unironic fan of this game, it wasn't perfect, but man it had a lot of cool ideas and gameplay packed into it.

This is probably the best review I've seen about the game:

@Noid Interesting, I looked up Black Mesa

#1 They had permission from Valve...since they are charging for it, not sure if Valve gets some of the money...

#2 Have you seen the Black Mesa EULA? check it out at https://store.steampowered.com//eula/362890_eula_0

I am sure Nintendo is not easy to work with...and I'm sure people throwing tantrums will not make Nintendo more likely to work with them, with some of the most valuable IP in the world.

Re: A Short Hike's Sales Have Been "Much Stronger" On Switch Compared To PC

Great game, excellent price point, and very imaginative use of BotW-like mechanics...so imaginative, you can't really say they "stole" or copied, it is similar but fits in well with the game.

If you want to "beat" the game, you could "finish" it in about 30-45 minutes. But the real joy is going around, exploring, and meeting the characters...I spent about 5+ hours, and loved every minute of it! I keep meaning to go back, and try to get more of the hidden items. Next holiday, maybe.

@Tyranexx if you are a recent adopter, then obviously all the Mario games and Zelda games are your first stop & best bets...after that you still have a lot of other top rated games to go through. I happened to pick this up just because I really don't play any FPS games at all, and wanted to try one...heard this was one of the best, so, gave it a whirl...it will tide me over until my copy of the 3D Mario remakes arrives in (gasp) 1 week!

@Tyranexx Bioshock is better than most FPS shooters, but it definitely is NOT close to a Metroid game. There is a bit of a story, and they have hacking "puzzles" but I find the game to be about a 7/10, at most...if you have nothing else to play, and can get it at a good discount, then go for it. USD 40 is expensive, I got the physical copy on Amazon for USD 31, and I plan on selling it back to get my money back when I am done. Having said that, it is probably better than a lot of the other FPS shooters, ymmv
