Re: Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers

Lone_Beagle

I just found out about this game yesterday, and I have to get it. It sounds completely bonkers...like the quirky Japanese games I used to love (and wonder who thought that would make a game?).

Re: Splatoon Producer Reveals How The Art Style In Yoshi’s Island Was Conceived

Lone_Beagle

Best game, ever! Best graphics, best gameplay (tough, too!), best music...even best "most awful sound effect ever," the crying baby. OMG, that crying gives me PTSD.

For some reason, I can't get into the WiiU and 3DS versions as much. I love the graphics, the music, though, is pretty "meh." It is cute and all, but nowhere near the bright, fun, cheerful & thematic music of the original.

@Magrane, @justin233 is spot on. Yoshi's Island DS is probably the most faithful overall to the original, but went a little overboard showcasing the dual-screens of the DS. For some reason, I prefer the controls and controller of the SNES version, even though the GBA version isn't that different (the SNES controller is perfection for that gen).

As I see I am getting fawning and thus boring, I'll stop here...

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima Named As One Of The Top 10 CEOs In The World

Lone_Beagle

@NEStalgia It is a list from Forbes magazine. They have a totally different set of priorities, although I think there is perhaps some overlap with what actual humans would believe is important, based on the fact that Kimishima-san is on the list.

My big WTF is the CEO of LinkedIn. I guess he has done a good job, I haven't gotten any 1am spam invites from LinkedIn any time recently (or maybe my spam filter has finally figured things out?).

Re: Review: Saturday Morning RPG (Switch eShop)

Lone_Beagle

Best indie game I'm playing right now is on PC (sadly) - "Ghost of a Tale" — it is $25, but it is **incredible** & definitely worth it. I'd rather spend a bit more on something really, really good, then keep blowing money on mediocre stuff.

Re: Nintendo's Mobile Titles Have "Not Reached A Satisfactory Profit Point"

Lone_Beagle

My take on mobile is that Nintendo needs to have an overall, "ecosystem" strategy...Nintendo needs to have some mobile games, so parents can introduce their toddlers to games (to keep them occupied). Then, at about age 6 or 7, the kids can be hooked on the Nintendo handheld, like the 2DS, that is is a dedicated gaming device, that the kid can own (when they are too young to own a phone). Then, the kids can naturally become interested in the home console at the appropriate time, and the home console can have the widest range of games.

Re: Nintendo Has Detailed The USB Cables You Can Use To Safely Charge Your Switch

Lone_Beagle

@rjejr - it's even worse, a lot of advanced cables have actual chips (computer chips!) in them. That's why for stuff like Apple devices, never ever buy a 3rd party cable. If it is cheaper, it is because it doesn't have all the electronics needed.

In fact, come to think of it, I think they are building in anti-piracy DRM into the latest HDMI cables. Thanks for making me pay for all that crap.

BTW — love your avatar!

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year One: A Review

Lone_Beagle

@JamesR @Swoltacular — Same here! Totally obsessed by Zelda...with work and other demands, I haven't even broken the plastic wrap on Skyrim, LA Noire, Mario Kart, Xenoblade, or Odyssey...

I finally finished BotW (spent about 200+ hours) and I immediately started it again, this time on my Wii U...my obsession is starting all over again, but I hope to at least open Odyssey next.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gets Stunning 5-Disc Soundtrack Release

Lone_Beagle

@GravyThief I listen to a track of YouTube called "Breath of the Wild Musical Journey" all the time, and it is 4.5 hours of music, none of it repeated. It is all the music you would hear along the journey, so, yeah, with extra bonus tracks and stuff I could easily see a complete collection going over 5 hours. Awesome music, btw!

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

Lone_Beagle

Some happy memories of the old Toys R Us...really, they weren't the best place to get games, but their close out sales were awesome. I'll always remember them as the place where I tried out Super Mario 64 before launch, and knew right away that Nintendo had a masterpiece! I proceeded right away to pre-order it and an N64, which I still have to this day. Cheers!

Re: Soapbox: Switch Continues To Give Older Games A Second (Or Third) Chance At Redemption

Lone_Beagle

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Excellent points. I think a problem for Nintendo is that people equate "quantity" of games with "quality" of the system. Since the perception is that Nintendo is a "kiddy system" any games that go against that and offer "adult entertainment" (i.e., shooting and blood) is probably a good thing, at this point.

I sure as heck won't be buying it. I'm still waiting for Wolfenstein!

Re: Review: Oh...Sir! The Insult Simulator (Switch eShop)

Lone_Beagle

@Shiryu I was about to post, asking "Does anybody remember Monkey Island?" lol, thanks for that!

As part of a larger game, if you want something like non-violent fighting, this would be cool. But as a stand-alone product? Nahhh...

Ok, I had to go find the list...here is my favorite from 25 or so years ago:
INSULT: I've spoken with apes more polite than you.
SWORD MASTER INSULT: Now I know what filth and stupidity really are.
RESPONSE: I'm glad to hear you attended your family reunion.

Re: Nintendo's French Boss Says We Should Expect More Switch Announcements From EA

Lone_Beagle

@FragRed I agree, but I'll come out directly and say it:
EA is a crap company that is destroying gaming, through this "games as a service" notion, and we would probably be better off if they went away.

I understand that people seem to be excited by in-game microtransactions (why? I have no idea), but if you support that, expect to see more and more of this crap idea in your games.
