Re: UK Charts: For Goodness Sake, Zelda: TOTK Is Number One Again

Korgon

I still need to get back and finish Zelda eventually. However SF6 completely derailed my Zelda playthrough and now I got FF16 and then the new Trails is coming soon too.

Yeah I don't know if I will finish Zelda! It was fun for a while but once the honeymoon period with it ended I've just found it difficult to find the desire to play it again.

Re: PlayStation Boss Doesn't Think Call Of Duty Appeals To Nintendo's Core Audience

Korgon

Like him or not he isn't really wrong here. COD is a huge part of the Playstation ecosystem whereas it's not on Nintendo platforms. It shouldn't be a shock that he doesn't want Playstation's primary competitor in control of one of the most important games on Playstation. Sure Microsoft has said they will keep COD on PS5...PS6 and beyond is still pretty murky which is why it's a bit of a big deal to Sony.

Think of it this way. What if all of all of a sudden Pokémon was in complete control of one of Nintendo's competitors and they decided that they would just stop releasing Pokémon games on Nintendo platforms? Sure it's not like Nintendo would collapse all of a sudden but they would be in danger of losing out on reliable revenue that comes in on a yearly basis. That's a big deal, and I'd bet good money Nintendo would be doing exactly what Sony is doing if that was the case.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Korgon

I played a big amount but I fell off at the 3rd main "dungeon". I friggin loved it for like the first 10-15 hours or so but it started to get a bit boring for myself personally. It also didn't help that Street Fighter 6 came out. 😄

I still intend to finish it one day but I'm not in a hurry to do so. Too many other games coming out. Heck FF16 is this Friday!

Re: UK Charts: Not Even Street Fighter 6 Can Knock Zelda: TOTK Off Its Throne

Korgon

@-wc-
It basically focuses on making special moves much easier to perform. For example instead of the usual input for a hadouken from past games you just press one button. Plus instead of having 3 separate punch and 3 separate kick buttons, instead you only have just light strong and heavy attack buttons.

The trade off is you don't have access to all your characters moves like the classic control scheme allows.

Personally I still prefer the classic setup but I can see how more casual players might lean towards the modern.

Re: UK Charts: Not Even Street Fighter 6 Can Knock Zelda: TOTK Off Its Throne

Korgon

Not really surprising considering while SF6 is popular its still in a niche genre (Although 6 has definitely attracted a lot of new players with the modern control scheme). Congratulations to Zelda for the continued success but I've actually kind of fell off TOTK.

I'm at the third main dungeon and just ran out of steam on it. I still plan to finish it someday but Street Fighter 6 came in and absolutely crushed my expectations which were already very high. Great year for games in general! At the moment SF6 is my GOTY. The game is simply sublime from top to bottom!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Korgon

I'm still working on it but I'm at a 9. The only things holding it back for me are the main dungeons, while better than BOTW's are still kind of...just okay. Granted I've only done the water one so perhaps I just unfortunately got the worst one first but it was still just "hit 4 switches, fight the boss, done". Hopefully the others are a bit more interesting.

My other issue would be the building mechanics, while really cool, have made many of the shrine puzzles a bit too simple. Many times the answer is just slapping you in the face thanks to all the birds and fans lying around next to a ramp for example.

Other than that, some minor technical issues and the story being kind of throw away thus far at least keep me from a 10. However it's still a great game and will easily be in my top 5 by the end of the year no doubt.

Re: Soapbox: A Love Letter To My Favourite New Character In Zelda: TOTK

Korgon

I kinda love this guy. Gotta respect the dedication to his goal to support Hudson through rain or shine. It's always amusing to help him out by burying him and the sign in wooden planks, beams, rocks, etcetera too.

Plus he gives you some decent pocket change and decent food too. I don't really use the free stays very often but hey it's the thought that counts!

Re: Expect More Open-World Zelda Games Going Forwards, Suggests Eiji Aonuma

Korgon

While I do enjoy the new style Zelda games I definitely understand where fans are coming from wanting the traditional style to stay alive. After all we do have many open world games to choose from to play already and really nothing to scratch the old school Zelda itch. And the "Just go play the old ones" suggestion just feels like a weak argument. We all know multiple playthroughs of a game never match the first playthrough of a new game.

It kind of reminds me of when Assassins Creed went to an open world rpg format after being more of a smaller more focused open world stealth game. I like the new rpg style entries but I'm glad to hear Mirage is more like the original style and am looking forward to it.

Hopefully Nintendo will put out a new old school Zelda too someday.

Re: Video: Overclocked Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Smooths Out Performance On Switch

Korgon

The game is really great but literally every single time I use Ultrahand it chugs well into the teens depending on how busy the mechanism is I'm building or during heavy busy combat.

I honestly don't know what the Digital Foundry guy is talking about as far as the game running better than BOTW. Seems about the same to me, maybe even a bit worse since BOTW's abilities weren't as complex and so didn't tank the performance as much.

It's a shame really. I'd like to see what the Zelda team could do on more powerful hardware if this is what they could achieve on Switch. I know it would never happen but I would buy this game again in a heartbeat if it came to PS5 or PC.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Korgon

@Max_the_German
I don't mind the frame rate myself (although I do prefer 60fps if at all possible) but I do share a bit of your lack of enthusiasm. I can't really put my finger on why. I think it's just that from what I've read no preview has stated if there are classic style dungeons or not. I'm sure the fusing and whatnot is great and all but that's what I want to know about more than anything.

Sure we have seen teases of what look like dungeons in that last trailer but that's not what I'd call confirmation. That's literally the only holdup I got...well that and I'm still working on Trails into Azure and I doubt I'll be finished before Zelda comes around.

All that said though I'm sure I'll play it at some point and that it will be a great game all the same but I'm not counting down the days until I can play it.

Re: Soapbox: Nobody Does 'More Of The Same' Better Than Nintendo

Korgon

I think the fact that they are upping the price to $70 led some to believe there must be something very special about TOTK. People expected the same thing for some of the PS5 sequels to PS4 games because of this and while those PS5 games have been good to great, the familiar template disappointed people.

Iteration is not a bad thing. Re-using assets is just economically smart. There's no real clear indicator other than low sales/reception that signify a change is needed. Assassin's Creed Origins came after Syndicate had low sales with a shake-up of the formula. Breath of the Wild came after Skyward Sword...which is one of the most divisive games in the series. BOTW was immensely popular so...you know the rest.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons

Korgon

Gotta say the building and fusing mechanics looked really fun and intuitive. I was hoping to see some sort of hint at least at dungeons returning but oh well. Maybe they are keeping that under wraps for now. That's the main thing I'm still hoping for.

I'm not really bothered by it looking like a very similar Hyrule to BOTW personally. Overall it looks good but I can't say I'm quite over the moon with excitement just yet.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees

Korgon

Yeah I think they are over-thinking this way too much. Just re-release the game as is and people would be happy. They don't even need to put forth the effort of HDifying the graphics or anything. Melee is simply that good anyway. Heck they did the same thing with Mario 64 on Switch and no one batted an eye!

It wouldn't confuse new players at all as to which one is the most current Smash Bros either as the word "Ultimate" settles that problem alone.

The only thing I guess they could add would be online multiplayer but if it's bad...well it wouldn't really be all that different from Ultimate online anyway so nothing would really be lost there. 😄

Granted as much as I love Melee and would buy it in a heartbeat if this happened I'm not begging for a re-release like some of the Melee fans. It would be cool to see but if it doesn't happen I'm not going to lose any sleep.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Korgon

Indifferent at the moment. I'm sure it will be a good game but I don't think I'll be finished with Trails into Azure by the time it comes out so I'll probably be picking it up a bit down the road.

It also doesn't help that they have shown basically nothing of the game so far so maybe after an actual presentation I might change my tune. If actual dungeons don't return though that would be disappointing.

Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch

Korgon

It's still pretty hard to believe there is going to be a $70 Switch game. A SWITCH game is $70.
Make all the excuses you want. They are doing it because they know they will get away with it...and they are right. I don't blame them. Why not?

If it was a new hardware I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. I have no issue paying $70 PS5/Xbox Series games. The Switch is a straight up fossil at this point though. A fossil with some great games but a fossil nonetheless.

However I've realized trying to question anything Nintendo does is practically pointless since it literally makes no difference so why even try? Nintendo fanboys are as gullible as they come.

Re: Yes, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Costs $70, Collector's Edition Announced

Korgon

@duhllin
Oh don't misunderstand me. It's absolutely a cash grab and I very much am not happy with Nintendo about it. However they are a corporation and corporations in the end try to make as much money as they can get away with. That's just what they do.

Thing is Nintendo is only doing this because they know they can get away with it, so ultimately the blame lies with the ones who empower them to do things like this. That's why I blame the fanboys.

Re: Nintendo: $70 USD Won't Be A Trend, Games Priced On "Case-By-Case Basis"

Korgon

...I mean it's a Switch game! It shouldn't even be sniffing a $70 price tag! If it was releasing for a new console that was a bit more up-to-date I doubt anyone would bat an eye but we are talking about a system that will likely run this game at 720P 25FPS in 2023!

I mean I get why they are doing it because they are Nintendo and Nintendo gets away with everything but good lord!

Re: Yes, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Costs $70, Collector's Edition Announced

Korgon

Yeah this uh...this looks really bad. The Switch is technically comparable to a Wii U power-wise and they want $70 for a game? I actually didn't mind the $70 price increase with the improved performance of the other consoles but a Switch game? That's just nonsense. I'll play it at some point but I'll be in no hurry.

It is Nintendo though so they will get away with it. I don't blame Nintendo. I blame the fanboys.

Re: UK Charts: Fire Emblem Engage Bags Franchise's Second Biggest Boxed Launch

Korgon

The 30% decrease could be a result of folks going digital instead of physical this time around compared to Three Houses. Good to see it doing well though! I do miss the emphasis on social elements but it's still there in some capacity and the characters, while not anywhere near as charming as Three Houses cast, have definitely grown on me.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Weapon Degradation To Return In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Korgon

I didn't mind the weapon degradation much in gameplay but it did take away the satisfaction of getting a cool looking spear only for it to break after 6-7 uses. Maybe allow the more special weapons to recharge while more common ones break.

My main hope is we just get actual good dungeons back though. That was my main issue with Breath of the Wild. If they literally give me Breath of the Wild now with actual dungeons then I'll be a happy camper.
