Re: 'The Duskbloods' Could Be FromSoftware's Most Ambitious Game Yet, According To Leak

Korgon

I like the occasional multiplayer game but I've never clicked with any of Fromsoft's online offers outside of the leaving notes for other players mechanic. I've especially never liked PVPVE stuff either so I can't say this one is high on the anticipation list personally.

Maybe when we learn more I might change my mind but at the moment I'm not interested. Fromsoft just isn't a name that comes to mind when I think of fun multiplayer.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

Korgon

I'm not in a rush to get a Switch 2 as there aren't any games announced for it yet that I'm really all that interested in playing outside of Mario Kart...and that's not really a system selling title for me.

I'm actually playing the most Switch 1 in a long time thanks to Hundred Line Defense Academy. I haven't used the Switch this much since Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Re: The Switch 2 Won't Have Achievements Or eShop Music

Korgon

Well they only just discovered party chat so I guess achievements was always going to be a step too far.

I'm not a major trophy hunter myself but I truly don't understand why they still don't have a Nintendo equivalent. They have specific game achievements. Why not just have a universal system? Just seems so odd and unorganized but whatever. Not the end of the world of course. Just another odd Nintendo thing.

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate In Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom?

Korgon

Docked mode is pretty bad for this one. Definitely notice it more there. Handheld though I don't mind it as much for some reason. I really don't like the odd blur effect that happens to any environment below where Zelda is. I'm not sure what they were going for with that.

I'm really liking the game overall though. It's nice to have actual dungeons back finally.

Re: Does Astro Bot's Super Mario 'Inspiration' Cross A Line? Fans Seem Divided

Korgon

Ah yes, the classic "Dey just copying Nintendo!" argument. Because Nintendo invented jumping, punching, hovering, swimming, breathing, bubbles, etcetera.

I really can't stand fanboys. Xbots, Sony Ponies, Nintendrones, PC Peeps...they are all bad.

Mario is great! Astro Bot is great! Both do different things in great ways! Why does everything have to be a competition?

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Fire Emblem: Three Houses Or Engage?

Korgon

Three Houses is far and away my favorite game of the Switch library. I was absolutely hooked and found the characters and story really great! I also really liked the garrison system that one had. Overall it's my favorite FE as well.

Then came Engage and at first I liked it...but as I got further in I just didn't like really any of the characters other than the one thief girl (forgot her name). The story was also just so boring too. Eventually I lost interest and never finished it.

I need a good cast and story to pull me through longer games and Engage had neither so Three Houses takes it by a landslide for me.

Re: Yes, Nintendo Is Aware Of Palworld's Existence

Korgon

If they can actually prove there was plagiarism involved then sure. Throw the book at them. However I personally don't think they have a strong case. Palworld is not the first Pokémon competitor nor will it be the last. It seems like the only reason people are calling foul on this is simply because it became really popular unlike most other competitors so far.

I personally don't really have a horse in this race as I don't play Pokémon and I don't play survival games like Palworld. Still it has been fascinating to see how upset this game's success has made some Pokémon fans.

Re: Pokémon Fans Set Their Sights On Palworld's Monster Designs

Korgon

@Dr_Lugae
I didn't say there aren't multiple ways to represent things. I'm just saying it's a bit unfair to expect completely unique designs on something that has been done over and over again.

Again take my BG elf example. You got your standard elf, a wood elf, a dark elf, a half elf, and probably more I'm just not thinking of. All of which have different behaviors, skills, backgrounds etc. However the basic design idea is still the same. A human looking creature that has pointy ears.

I'm not trying to insult anyone (unlike the other guy that is very clearly upset at me 🤣) or insult the creative arts. I'm just saying I don't think it's fair to expect completely unique designs for stuff that has been done many many times before.

And honestly it is pretty impressive just how many ways the Pokémon company has designed a dog. I'm not trying to take anything away from that. Hopefully that clears my point up a bit.

Re: Pokémon Fans Set Their Sights On Palworld's Monster Designs

Korgon

@Aawill91
Wow. You seem very upset about this topic. Maybe take it down a notch!

I don't what to tell you man. Pokémon designs have certainly started to just blend together to me at this point. A dog is a dog. You can change the color of its tail, make it big, make it small, whatever but its still a dog. Simple as that.

Is Baldur's Gate "creatively bankrupt" because elves in that game still look like elves from every other media? Of course not. There are only so many ways to make an elf look unique from every other elf out there.

And while Palworld has similar monster designs to Pokémon it plays literally nothing like Pokemon. It's not just a shameless rip-off like you think and if you just can't see that well then I don't really know what to tell you.

Re: Pokémon Fans Set Their Sights On Palworld's Monster Designs

Korgon

This feels like the Genshin Impact debacle all over again. There is definitely a group of Nintendo "fans" that think Nintendo has ownership over everything under the sun even though Nintendo takes inspiration from others all the time as well. They also believe Nintendo did absolutely everything the gaming industry has to offer first even though that just isn't true either. It's more than a little annoying to be honest.

Are the designs similar? Sure but here's the thing. Pokémon has been around for so long that they have a Pokémon design that is based on just about everything under the sun. Heck isn't there a Pokémon that looks like a Keychain!? Anyway my point is that it's a little unfair to expect completely original designs at this point for this genre. What do people expect them to do? Come up with some unique way to make a Pal out of a dog? There are only so many ways to make a dog monster design!

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

Korgon

Wait wait wait. The dungeons in TOTK were supposed to be the result of fan feedback for wanting more classic style dungeons? 😬

I thought they were just as bad as BOTW's myself. I enjoyed TOTK overall but just like with BOTW I found the dungeons severely lacking. Everything in-between the main dungeons is great but if this was supposed to be their attempt at classic Zelda dungeons...I think it might be a lost cause.

Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises

Korgon

Shinobi looks absolutely incredible art style wise so that's the one I picked. I'm looking forward to all of them though. Sega really has become my primary publisher I buy games from lately with how great Sonic, Like A Dragon, and Atlus have been so this announcement just adds to the pile.

Virtua Fighter 6 though is the golden goose for me. Please Sega make it happen!

Re: Is Dave The Diver An Indie Game? The Game Awards' Host Weighs In

Korgon

I'm don't get why this is a debate really. It's pretty cut and dry that it isn't indie. An indie studio is an independently owned studio. Pure and simple.

Now if that studio got a publisher to sign on as just a publisher of the game and doesn't own the studio I would still consider that independent. Getting proper funding is a part of the development process and getting a publisher to back your game isn't easy. The indie studio needs to pitch the publisher on the game to help fund it after all and I'd wager more often than not devs are turned down during these meetings.

In Dave the Diver's case the team is owned by a publisher and so is absolutely not independent. That's like a child who is still living at home with the parents saying they are independent. It just isn't correct so I don't really get how a mistake like this happened.

Re: Feature: Why I Still Love My Wii U

Korgon

The Wii U is actually my personal favorite Nintendo console I ever bought. Virtual Console, free online, an actual messaging system for friends to use, great games, the first HD Nintendo console, full Wii backwards compatibility, etc. Heck I even thought the game pad felt great as a controller. The touch screen also was a great bonus when used wisely by certain games.

It had a lot going for it. It's a real shame it just never caught on. The Switch is fine but my heart still belongs to the Wii U.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Launches YouTube Channel And Reveals His Upcoming Plans

Korgon

Platinum has said they want to do more GaaS games in the future...and if Babylon's Fall is any indication it doesn't really seem like a great fit for Platinum's talents as well as Kamiya's. How vague he is about his departure tells me he didn't agree with the direction of the company and is NDA'd up to his eyeballs and so can't go into detail about it.

Hopefully I'm wrong but that's my gut feeling on this whole situation.

Re: Mario Producer: Sonic's Same Week Release Is "An Interesting Coincidence"

Korgon

I've always struggled with 2D platformers as opposed to 3D but Sonic in 2D is the odd exception. Something about the momentum of Sonic just feels more natural to me so I'll be playing Superstars for sure.

I'm absolutely terrible at 2D Mario so I'm probably not even going to try Wonder. I've tried multiple times to get into 2D Mario but it just doesn't click. I just can't get down the timing nor the controls with the weird "worm thumb" technique as my friend likes to call it required to play.

Both should be great games in their own right though for their audiences. Happy to see the devs don't feed into the fanboy wars that some people are still fighting since the 90s. 😄

Re: Soapbox: FOMO Nearly Ruined Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom For Me

Korgon

I've done 3 of the 4 main dungeons and honestly? I haven't enjoyed any of them at all really just like BOTW's. Thankfully though most of the rest of the game is good so all is not lost.

I've slowly been chipping away at the game all year. I do like it but I'm definitely no where near as enthusiastic about the game as some folks but I like it still.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing

Korgon

Street Fighter 6 is pretty far and away the best game I've played all year but I know it won't win any GOTY's since it's a fighting game. It's sad but true.☹️

My second favorite would probably be Jedi Survivor but I also don't expect that to win because of the launch issues.

Zelda is going to win because it's a new Zelda game I would imagine. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's a good game for sure, but Zelda always gets a bump over the rest from critics. Baldurs Gate is too intimidating I bet for most people voting to give it a chance. Starfield will probably be too buggy to win it since it's Bethesda.

Regardless though it has indeed been a great year for games! Truly something for everyone. However I think your discounting how much of chance Elden Ring would stand against Zelda. Elden Ring is absolutely fantastic! Also God of War Ragnarok would have been a worthy opponent as well.

Anyway don't take GOTY awards too seriously folks. It's not worth it!

Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Only A Classic Or Two From Being The Perfect PlayStation History Lesson

Korgon

@Wexter
I'd still say of the three I still prefer Playstation's 1st party output the most still. They have put out a new Ratchet, a new Horizon, a new God of War, Returnal, and Spider-Man Miles Morales thus far and plus Spider-Man 2 later in the year. Thats a pretty solid lineup for where PS5 is at in its life cycle so far I'd say. (Though the live service push they want to make does concern me a bit)

That said I do agree with you about PS3. That's still probably my favorite console I ever owned. Cell Processor blunder and all. They really did come out swinging in that generation.

Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Only A Classic Or Two From Being The Perfect PlayStation History Lesson

Korgon

Playstation didn't really get their 1st party development ducks in a row until PS3. PS1 and PS2 heavily depended on 3rd party support back in the day. That's not to say there isn't any 1st party games from that era but it's not too surprising to see a big portion of the games people associate with Playstation of that era finally make it to other ecosystems.

Only took about three generations later!
