I've had to stay away from Astro Bot spoilers which is hard enough as is since my preorder is just now arriving today, thankfully I don't mind spoilers for Zelda games though I have somehow gone this long without knowing totk's ending since I haven't beaten it yet.
I already have it on Steam and my Switch physical is preordered. Was having problems finding matches last night, hopefully that was just iffy servers on the first day.
One of the biggest gaffs by Nintendo in recent times has to be no classic Pokemon games on Switch. I bought all the Gameboy ones on the 3ds, plus they can do gba, ds and even the 3ds titles.
I'm still waiting on VGP to ship my preorder... but I've been playing Astro's Playroom and it's fantastic. Really looking forward to this but I'm not sure why it's gotta be a competition.
@Anti-Matter I can almost understand your point on not including M rated games in your collection but I really don't get refusing to play a game just because said characters are included.
Technically a spoiler, but Kazuma Kiryu is a bot in Astro Bot. Is he from an M rated game, yes but he's the good guy. He's got good morals and good resolve. There's nothing M rated in Astro Bot or else it would be M rated itself.
@Anti-Matter I've always wondered why there isn't a DDR game on Switch that uses two Joy-Con leg straps. Whenever I wanna play Mario DDR I gotta hook up my GameCube and pull the mat out, but it would be so much more simple if I could use motion controls instead of a mat.
I was VERY excited seeing this pop up but good golly those are some of the worst packs of games I have ever seen.
And honestly it's not because there's bad games (Garou is my #1) it's just that there are so few. Unless these are $20 collections, what's the point?
You can buy a Neogeo mini on Amazon for ~$60 that comes with every kof, every metal slug, every samsho, and nearly every aof/fatal fury (the good ones at least). I don't know why they're so picky on the Switch.
Not the biggest fan of these metroid/castlevania style games but I can't really resist when it's a franchise or game series that I'm a fan of, I'll pick this up on sale. Yars' Revenge is one of only a handful of 2600 games that has aged really well imo.
I wonder where the difference lies in "oh this is just that" and "wow this is a spiritual successor to that."
Is it the art style? Gameplay? Presentation? The team behind it?
Regardless, I'm all for this. I love games made by people who are clearly fans of a specific game and they are creating the vision that they want to see for it. Palworld especially.
Lots of people seem to be saying "oh it's not NEARLY as dark as we were expecting" and I'm just wondering why people brought it upon themselves to expect that.
Besides, a game being dark is not the only reason I'm excited for this, but come on. Is a serial killer murder mystery with teen suicide and pools of blood REALLY not dark enough?
I haven't played the demo but I do have it preordered physically through Nintendo and they have yet to ship it, rip for release day but still excited.
Metal Slug Tactics Fall confirmation, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is INSANE, Marvel collection in two weeks just as I guessed (with secret characters confirmed!).
I have the first Fighting Collection digitally on Switch and PC, the Marvel one digitally on PC and physically on Switch preordered, and SVC Chaos digitally on PC.
I think I'm just gonna stick to PC for this one. Don't get me wrong, I am JUST as hyped for this as I am for Marvel, I just have always wanted a physical copy of MVC2. I already have CVS2 on the GameCube.
I'm betting within the next year we'll also see a Street Fighter Fighting Collection. We've got that Legacy collection sure but that only had 4/12 games online and it wasn't even rollback. I love Digital Eclipse but Capcom really should've done the inhouse development while DE handles the history.
Crazy how MVC2, CVS2, Vampire Savior 2, Pocket Fighter, SVC Chaos, and Power Stone 2 have rollback officially released on modern consoles but NONE of the classic Street Fighters do (aside from Hyper and now Alpha 3 Upper).
@Anti-Matter iirc Alpha 3 Upper was released for the Sega Naomi hardware instead of the CPS II like the original, it features fixes and a few new characters (or secret characters are easily selected, I forget).
The funny thing is it's not even close to the most definitive version. There was a Gameboy Advance version with a few more characters, and then the psp version, called Double Upper, features every character from previous versions plus 1 more, combine that with near perfect recreation of gameplay and sprites and you've got yourself the definitive Street Fighter Alpha.
Upper isn't played much because people like the glitches before they were fixed, and if you want all the characters there are hacked versions or the psp version. They probably just threw it in the collection because the licensing is easy and they figured out good Naomi emulation on Switch.
@Truegamer79 Honestly the biggest reason why I'm so excited for the Switch 2 is new games. New 3D Mario, new Mario Kart, new Smash. Games that they won't put out on old hardware.
On this schedule of uploads the 7th game will be on Friday, the 31st of August. That's the first day of PAX which the collection is also confirmed to show up at. They'll definitely give us the date then.
I feel like Marvel/Disney probably has an insane grip on the marketing, from announcing this at a Nintendo Direct instead of EVO a month later, to not giving a release date at EVO, or the excessive trailers. Still, they are building hype from me as this was one of my most wanted ports to the Switch (I mean, since then I just put these games on my Steam Deck Oled but I'm still gonna double dip on Switch and Steam).
Betting a KOF collection, definitely the first ten, maybe throw in XI or even XII at that point. Could also just be XI, or the XIII Rollback update on PC.
Not betting on a new game with DLC for XV still on the way but hey it would be cool.
I paid $700 for my Steam Deck OLED 1 TB (after tax) and an extra $80 for a dock. It is absolutely worth every penny.
If the Switch 2 can rival the Steam Deck's power, comes with an oled screen, has backwards compatibility, and releases with some first party bangers I'm absolutely in at any "reasonable" price.
Besides, I guarantee that every single one of y'all here owns at least 5 full-priced first party games on your Switch; that's $300 right there (even if you got them all on sale for $40 that's still $200). I would rather put that money towards a much better, more capable console than a handful of games.
Insane prices for micro sds, my Walmart put the 512 gb Nintendo ones on sale for $30 and I got one for my steam deck oled and another for my switch oled
The amount of Dreamcast stuff is really weird, would be fitting for a Sonic Adventure remake or something but that kinda stuff would be like, I don't know, if 3D World + Bowser's Fury had a collectors set with GameCube stuff because Bowser Jr. debuted in Sunshine. The Dreamcast case also reminds me of those fake games you can buy for the system that are just emulated.
@SillyG exactly, now I'm not interested in Sonic much but whenever I buy games I'm much more inclined to spend an extra $30 for a steelbook, soundtrack and an art book. Not $250 for a whole box of "stuff."
Very interesting that Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is on here, and next to Spider-Man 2 and TTYD no less.
If the list included Steam that might make more sense considering the modding scene for the game is exploding, but maybe the interest in the series has been revived thanks to the collection and people just wanna play the most recent entry.
@Jackomorgan I was gonna say, if there's just more games playable it might not mean much (I mean, how did it NOT get announced at Evo???) but then it said there'd be "discussion" on it and I feel like that has to be it. Already have my Switch preorder in as well as Steam.
@SillyG I agree, weighing is something I don't have much of a problem with. I went to Galaxy's Edge and weighed the red Kyber crystals in my hand trying to feel this difference for a black kyber crystal, which were inserted into red cases at about 1/25-1/100 odds and included a tiny slip of paper as a sort of certification slip.
I bought three and ended up with a black, and the other two reds used the thick molds so they were definitely heavier. But that's something that anyone can do, especially kids. Bringing third party tools into the mix feels scummy.
I went to Walmart a few months ago and there was this man using what looked like a bomb to scan/weigh packs of Disney trading cards. He was telling the people working there he was "just checking something."
I walked up to him and told him that wasn't cool and that kids buying these booster packs or whatever they are won't get any rare cards and he told me it's "not my problem" and I was pretty shocked.
It's insane what greed does to people, glad I dipped out of the trading card scene years ago.
That's interesting but man, why not make the two games cross over? Unless they do and that's the "exclusive content" for grabbing both.
Maybe like a Zelda Oracle thing where you get a secret code after beating one to change the story in the other. Also locking not only playable characters, but characters with "their own story" to preorders is an odd choice, though it'll surely be available within a few months of release.
Ok so we are definitely getting a release date soon.
On their Twitter they were sort of "counting down" until something by posting 3-4 tweets on each game, and after they hit the Punisher they uploaded the video on Cota.
My guess is we'll see a release date after the next 6 videos, but how often will they be uploaded? Even if it's once every three days, that puts us before the end of August.
My initial guess was a September release date but a release date a month ahead is pretty crazy, but then again Nintendo just ANNOUNCED a game with a physical release the next month (Emio).
Gamescom is in a week and it's confirmed Terry will be playable in SF6 there. That's pretty much confirmation that they're going to drop a gameplay trailer soon, and the characters themselves usually come out less than a month after, putting Terry at a mid September release.
Capcom's September is already looking pretty good for rereleases/remasters, with Ace Attorney on the 6th and Dead Rising on the 19th, so my guess is we see Terry release in late September.
That puts the MVC collection in either a pretty stacked month for Capcom, OR a wide open October. I doubt they'd release it any later than that, my guess is the 18th.
I might pick up Tempest 4000, I already have it on the Atari VCS but man it runs so poorly. Atari 50 is also well worth that price, also with the DLC in a few months it would probably save a few bucks vs getting the new $40 package. I'm going with the steelbook edition though.
I picked up a PSVR2 headset for $350 as my first virtual reality with the PC adapter so I've been playing Half Life Alyx and Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted. Very cool technology and I'm glad I waited.
On the Switch, I just got the Doom upgrade for free so I might mess around with that, still need to beat Mario RPG and TTYD, and I also picked up that Mushiemasha(???) arcade shoot em up that is getting delisted.
Went ahead and picked it up with gold points. I don't buy much software on the Switch anymore since I got my Steam Deck, but being able to prop up the Switch and play games vertically on such a nice oled screen makes it worth it to me.
These are good games but they are nowhere near worth the $90-$100 it comes out to be after shipping, heck I paid $50 for all of them on Steam and I almost wish I waited for it to drop further.
@Ace-Lucario I am in the same boat, the only GBA game I own is Final Fantasy 6 that I play on a ds lite and I bought the Pixel Remasters on Steam for $50. I have a good couple of hours in the GBA one and I'll probably just continue through that version, it has some exclusive bosses that I'm looking forward to.
@Vyacheslav333 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the entire point of the NeoGeo AES/MVS is that it's the exact same game rom on the cartridge so the console versions were nearly always arcade prefect? It was the BIOS or something on the console that made the game a "console" version which usually just meant more customization from a menu vs dipswitches on an arcade cabinet.
Unless this game specifically had any major differences it's pretty much the arcade version, you might not be inserting a coin but the gameplay should be the exact same.
5/10 is pretty low for this. This is a pretty much perfect port with rollback, no emulation issues, all the secret characters and minibosses playable, training mode, an art gallery.
It might not be the best game but it's still very good and does a lot of really cool things gameplay wise. There are some crazy things you can do with Supers at Maximum level, and none of the characters are banned at a competitive level because it's all so broken and fun.
I would say it's a 7/10 at worst with an 8/10 or even a 9/10 if you are a fighting game guy. It does nothing wrong besides the original game not being the perfection that CVS2 is, but for a rerelease of this game it hits all the marks and then some.

I would say it's a 7/10 at worst with an 8/10 or even a 9/10 if you are a fighting game guy. It does nothing wrong besides the original game not being the perfection that CVS2 is, but for a rerelease of this game it hits all the marks and then some.
