Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection 'The Punisher' Spotlight

IceClimbersMain

On this schedule of uploads the 7th game will be on Friday, the 31st of August. That's the first day of PAX which the collection is also confirmed to show up at. They'll definitely give us the date then.

I feel like Marvel/Disney probably has an insane grip on the marketing, from announcing this at a Nintendo Direct instead of EVO a month later, to not giving a release date at EVO, or the excessive trailers. Still, they are building hype from me as this was one of my most wanted ports to the Switch (I mean, since then I just put these games on my Steam Deck Oled but I'm still gonna double dip on Switch and Steam).

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

IceClimbersMain

@ninfriendo_1973 there isn't any but there's also practically no info on the console in general, we don't even know for sure if it's a handheld.

I think it should at least come close to the Steam Deck as the mere performance of it alone has made me abandon my Switch except for exclusives.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

IceClimbersMain

I paid $700 for my Steam Deck OLED 1 TB (after tax) and an extra $80 for a dock. It is absolutely worth every penny.

If the Switch 2 can rival the Steam Deck's power, comes with an oled screen, has backwards compatibility, and releases with some first party bangers I'm absolutely in at any "reasonable" price.

Besides, I guarantee that every single one of y'all here owns at least 5 full-priced first party games on your Switch; that's $300 right there (even if you got them all on sale for $40 that's still $200). I would rather put that money towards a much better, more capable console than a handful of games.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Gets A Limited Edition With A Gorgeous Dreamcast Statue

IceClimbersMain

The amount of Dreamcast stuff is really weird, would be fitting for a Sonic Adventure remake or something but that kinda stuff would be like, I don't know, if 3D World + Bowser's Fury had a collectors set with GameCube stuff because Bowser Jr. debuted in Sunshine. The Dreamcast case also reminds me of those fake games you can buy for the system that are just emulated.

@SillyG exactly, now I'm not interested in Sonic much but whenever I buy games I'm much more inclined to spend an extra $30 for a steelbook, soundtrack and an art book. Not $250 for a whole box of "stuff."

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe And EA Sports FC 24 Trade Places Yet Again

IceClimbersMain

Very interesting that Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is on here, and next to Spider-Man 2 and TTYD no less.

If the list included Steam that might make more sense considering the modding scene for the game is exploding, but maybe the interest in the series has been revived thanks to the collection and people just wanna play the most recent entry.

UMVC3 is MUCH better though.

Re: Feature: The Company You Can Pay To X-Ray Unopened Pokémon Card Packs Speaks Out

IceClimbersMain

@SillyG I agree, weighing is something I don't have much of a problem with. I went to Galaxy's Edge and weighed the red Kyber crystals in my hand trying to feel this difference for a black kyber crystal, which were inserted into red cases at about 1/25-1/100 odds and included a tiny slip of paper as a sort of certification slip.

I bought three and ended up with a black, and the other two reds used the thick molds so they were definitely heavier. But that's something that anyone can do, especially kids. Bringing third party tools into the mix feels scummy.

Re: Feature: The Company You Can Pay To X-Ray Unopened Pokémon Card Packs Speaks Out

IceClimbersMain

I went to Walmart a few months ago and there was this man using what looked like a bomb to scan/weigh packs of Disney trading cards. He was telling the people working there he was "just checking something."

I walked up to him and told him that wasn't cool and that kids buying these booster packs or whatever they are won't get any rare cards and he told me it's "not my problem" and I was pretty shocked.

It's insane what greed does to people, glad I dipped out of the trading card scene years ago.

Re: 16-Bit Platformers Based On Halloween And Evil Dead Announced For Switch

IceClimbersMain

That's interesting but man, why not make the two games cross over? Unless they do and that's the "exclusive content" for grabbing both.

Maybe like a Zelda Oracle thing where you get a secret code after beating one to change the story in the other. Also locking not only playable characters, but characters with "their own story" to preorders is an odd choice, though it'll surely be available within a few months of release.

Re: Video: Capcom Spotlights 'X-Men Children Of The Atom' In New MvC: Fighting Collection Trailer

IceClimbersMain

Ok so we are definitely getting a release date soon.

On their Twitter they were sort of "counting down" until something by posting 3-4 tweets on each game, and after they hit the Punisher they uploaded the video on Cota.

My guess is we'll see a release date after the next 6 videos, but how often will they be uploaded? Even if it's once every three days, that puts us before the end of August.

My initial guess was a September release date but a release date a month ahead is pretty crazy, but then again Nintendo just ANNOUNCED a game with a physical release the next month (Emio).

Gamescom is in a week and it's confirmed Terry will be playable in SF6 there. That's pretty much confirmation that they're going to drop a gameplay trailer soon, and the characters themselves usually come out less than a month after, putting Terry at a mid September release.

Capcom's September is already looking pretty good for rereleases/remasters, with Ace Attorney on the 6th and Dead Rising on the 19th, so my guess is we see Terry release in late September.

That puts the MVC collection in either a pretty stacked month for Capcom, OR a wide open October. I doubt they'd release it any later than that, my guess is the 18th.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th August)

IceClimbersMain

I picked up a PSVR2 headset for $350 as my first virtual reality with the PC adapter so I've been playing Half Life Alyx and Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted. Very cool technology and I'm glad I waited.

On the Switch, I just got the Doom upgrade for free so I might mess around with that, still need to beat Mario RPG and TTYD, and I also picked up that Mushiemasha(???) arcade shoot em up that is getting delisted.

Re: Review: SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (Switch) - A Great-Looking But Painfully Average Fighter

IceClimbersMain

@Vyacheslav333 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the entire point of the NeoGeo AES/MVS is that it's the exact same game rom on the cartridge so the console versions were nearly always arcade prefect? It was the BIOS or something on the console that made the game a "console" version which usually just meant more customization from a menu vs dipswitches on an arcade cabinet.

Unless this game specifically had any major differences it's pretty much the arcade version, you might not be inserting a coin but the gameplay should be the exact same.

Re: Review: SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (Switch) - A Great-Looking But Painfully Average Fighter

IceClimbersMain

5/10 is pretty low for this. This is a pretty much perfect port with rollback, no emulation issues, all the secret characters and minibosses playable, training mode, an art gallery.

It might not be the best game but it's still very good and does a lot of really cool things gameplay wise. There are some crazy things you can do with Supers at Maximum level, and none of the characters are banned at a competitive level because it's all so broken and fun.

I would say it's a 7/10 at worst with an 8/10 or even a 9/10 if you are a fighting game guy. It does nothing wrong besides the original game not being the perfection that CVS2 is, but for a rerelease of this game it hits all the marks and then some.

Re: Talking Point: Will The Switch Ever Get A 'Nintendo Selects' Range?

IceClimbersMain

It won't go down to $20 but at this point you can get any game you want for $40 within 2-3 months of release (the new Luigi's Mansion hit $45 on Woot with free Prime shipping) and there seems to be a sale every month so there's really no reason NOT to just permanently lower the price to $40 on some of these games.

Heck Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hit THIRTY at Walmart not too long ago iirc

Re: SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos Announced For Nintendo Switch

IceClimbersMain

@Zeebor15 I'm a big fan of the NGPC, have a good couple of games for the system.

Off the top of my head, there's Faselei, which is currently $200+ for an English copy and I believe that's SNK first party.

Beyond that the games are either second/third party games or too reliant on Japanese to be enjoyed by an English speaker, but they did put that KOF board game in the 2nd collection so who knows.

I would absolutely LOVE a 3rd selection with some of the REALLY rare games. Faselei, Fantastic Dreams Cotton, Eternal Dungeons, maybe even translate SVC Card Fighters 2 or Biomotor 2. But that's probably not happening

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition

IceClimbersMain

I'm not a big "oh every game should get DLC/massive updates" kinda guy (totk or Pikmin 4 doesn't need it) but this is really looking to be the kind of game to really benefit from a big update or two. It would piss some people off not including it in the cart, but add some new games, maybe even third party stuff like Mega Man or Castlevania. Maybe a mode or two extra as well, there's only so much you can squeeze out of 13 NES roms

Re: Review: Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (Switch) - Speed-Focused And Slight, But Addictive

IceClimbersMain

I can see myself going ham and getting all the collectibles in a week or so, then leaving all the cool deluxe stuff on my shelf. What would make this game so much more worth it to me would be if the games were actually included.

It would be nice to be able to play NES games without connecting to the internet, but more than that, I really would want to try my hand at basic SMB speedrunning with an online leaderboard

Re: 'The Karate Kid: Street Rumble' Chops Its Way Onto Switch In September

IceClimbersMain

@Daniel36 So I found the interview I was thinking about, and while the showrunner didn't objectively say that it wasn't canon, he did say that the show does "exist" in the universe but they aren't involved with the movie in any way and they don't expect the movie to address anything that has happened in the show.

So who knows, I'll watch it regardless

Re: 'The Karate Kid: Street Rumble' Chops Its Way Onto Switch In September

IceClimbersMain

Semi-unrelated but I can't believe the new Karate Kid movie won't include the SIX SEASONS of Cobra Kai in its story as canon. CK is the best reboot of an 80s movie series I've ever seen and it's insane how they're just throwing out seven years' worth of characters and ongoing story development (the last part of the last season comes out within a few months of the next movie).

Back on this game, it looks not that bad, better than the Cobra Kai games (ironically) so I could see myself picking this up when it drops to the ~$10 range.

Re: Soapbox: Has Nintendo Set A Precedent That 'Switch 2' Can't Hope To Match?

IceClimbersMain

I don't think it will ever beat the Switch, they're still going to be releasing games and producing the Switch even with the Switch 2 out, I think the Switch can hit the best selling console of all time.

I don't think that it's worthy of that title with how underpowered it is and how terrible the controllers are, but there is no denying that it singlehandedly revived the handheld gaming industry, has some incredible games, and inspired near-perfect devices like the Steam Deck (even if SNK did the docking handheld thing first).

I've been saying this for a while, but I bet we'll see a massive emphasis on "retro" titles and 3rd party games on the Switch 2. Instead of "the Nintendo Switch has games" I bet they'll say more of "your favorites on the go," because I've been playing more Nintendo games on my Deck than anything else.

I always wanted the Switch to be everything Nintendo on a portable device and they never leaned into it enough; now I play Mario Strikers Charged on a Steam Deck Oled. Maybe we'll see a New 3DS scenario where we get GameCube and other exclusive systems ported to the Switch 2.

But even with that, the Switch definitely appeals to the casual audience, almost as much as the Wii and I believe that is because it's a handheld. But if there's anything I know about parents and video games (and honestly most people in general) nobody's itching to replace the handheld they already have that works. And the Switch definitely works (Joycon aside).
