Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Needs More Characters Like Paper Mario's Vivian

IceClimbersMain

Eh, representation isn't a priority, if you can write the character and their transgenderism into the story, sure but just creating characters BECAUSE of what gender they want to be affirmed as almost undermines what makes them a character in the first place? Like if that's your ONLY reason for the character to exist then I feel like that's more insulting.

Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?

IceClimbersMain

Personally, I haven't paid more than $30 for a game in a long time, you can get any game for $30 within 6 months of release.

Whether that's a sale, storewide discounts, the local used game market, the only time I pay MSRP for a game is if I know it won't be available cheaper (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Deluxe Edition).

Now with that being said, these remasters should only be $40. From what I understand, TTYD doesn't add much to the original experience, SMRPG at least adds some post-game stuff.

Maybe it's because I already have these original games on original hardware or emulated but I see no reason to pick these up at $60, especially if they don't add anything.

I'd pay $30 for Mario RPG and $20 for TTYD.

Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?

IceClimbersMain

One of the biggest examples I see people using as a Remake is Final Fantasy VII Remake, but Remake is not a remake, it's a sequel. Completely different from the first game and exists outside of it.

But besides that, the way I look at it is "is this game intending to completely replace any need to play the original?" If yes, it's a remaster. A remake implies that there is enough being changed to warrant a "new" game, so you could still play the original and have a different experience, while a remaster is meant to replace the game by leaving no reason to play the original; it looks better, might have a few more qol features, and turns an 8/10 game to a 9/10 (if done properly). A remake can turn a 4/10 game into a 10/10 game.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Latest Studio - Who Is Shiver Entertainment?

IceClimbersMain

I can honestly see a big announcement trailer for the Switch 2 featuring just a TON of big third party titles all crammed into one showcase where it switches through the box art so fast that it goes through multiple per second.

Final Fantasy VII Remake (maybeeee Rebirth?), Persona 3 Reload, Baldur's Gate 3, whatever else the kids are playing these days "On the Go". Maybe some more games that the Steam Deck struggles with but the Switch 2 will be able to run, assuming it's more powerful than the Deck, of course.

But with that being said, I don't think a Switch 2 will match the install base of the current Switch, so it definitely makes sense to invest in more ports as the system winds down, especially since the Switch 2 will have them with backwards compatibility as well.

Re: Visual Novels Based On 'The Quintessential Quintuplets' Anime Come To Switch Next Week

IceClimbersMain

This anime was so interesting, it spawned its own subgenre of romance anime and there's an endless amount of merchandise of its characters, but the original author only wrote enough manga for two seasons and half a movie, then he was done.

It's a decent watch, a very short guessing game really. I don't know much about the games but I'm glad they're finally getting Western releases. Not paying $60 for them tho

Re: Soapbox: Square Enix's "Extraordinary Losses" And This Whole Xbox Mess Have Me Scared For The Future

IceClimbersMain

I picked up Octopath Traveler II for $36 on Steam Deck Oled recently, my first Squenix game that isn't something "big" like Final Fantasy, DQ, Nier or Kingdom Hearts.

And it's incredible, the art style has been used a good amount by them recently but it's so pretty and the rpg elements are hit right on the head. But I had that feeling playing it that it was a "dying genre" almost. Hopefully we could see more of these titles from Square but I honestly doubt it.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want To Reuse Your Joy-Con On 'Switch 2'?

IceClimbersMain

I think that Joycon are an incredible idea with terrible execution. The ability to switch from a handheld console to a 2 player tabletop console in one piece (nothing extra) is still really cool to me, but they made them too small, prone to failure (beyond stick drift), and WAY too expensive.

With that being said, if the next console has backwards compatibility (and it should) then I fully expect Joycon to be compatible wirelessly.

Re: Capcom eShop Golden Week Sale Includes Monster Hunter Rise For "Lowest Price Ever" (US)

IceClimbersMain

If this is anything like the previous Capcom sales, then they've also got the Capcom Fighting Bundle for $25, which gets you both the Capcom Fighting Collection and the Street Fighter Legacy Collection.

That's 22 of Capcom's best arcade fighting games on the go, including every arcade SF up to Third Strike and Hyper SF2, every Darkstalkers game, both Puzzle Fighters, Cyberbots and Red Earth which is exclusive to the collection. I highly recommend it over the Arcade Stadiums if you're looking for fighting games.

Re: Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story Delivers Playable Industry History Next Month

@frenchtoastplease Karateka I don't think was huge but Atari 50 did pretty well for them I would guess. Without a doubt the best way to play well over 100+ old games and they recently said they're returning to it with free updates and possibly paid dlc (mayyyybe some third party stuff as well).

I think the reason people don't talk about them much is that they focus on the game history more than the game itself. For example, Street Fighter fans will tell you that DE's 30th anniversary collection is the absolute worst way to play these games and that's because they're right. Not that great online and some input lag. I bought it but more so I can just have the games and soundtracks on my Switch (and that it was $5 lol).

And the more recent games (SNK, Atari, and now this) are collections with some decent games here and there but it is mostly a playable history documentary, which I personally love but the wide appeal isn't there.

Re: Palworld Has A Pokémon Mod, Though Video Takedowns Are Already Being Dished Out

IceClimbersMain

@Jiggies Hey, I love LGE. All I need is some decent graphics, stable framerate, and some interactability with your Pokémon. All Gamefreak has to do is take some time and make a really good game.

I'll admit, the DLC for Gen 9 made the game much better, but the graphics and unstable game still breaks the game for me. Palworld is in early access and it still runs better. The biggest multimedia franchise in the world could do better.
