Re: What Review Score Would You Give Luigi's Mansion 2 HD?

IceClimbersMain

Ehhhh I mean it's a good game but it is $20 more than the game it's a remaster of. I don't think that remasters should cost more than the original, remakes maybe but a remaster that, as far as I know, adds literally nothing to the original experience shouldn't be much more in price.

7/10 because I don't include the price in my rating but even then it is a lackluster remaster of a decent game.

Re: Atari 50: Expanded Edition Adds 2 New Timelines And 39 New Games

IceClimbersMain

@Mario500 Well if you haven't played Atari 50 today, it's probably the best collection of retro games out there, and I really just enjoy playing it every once in a while or watching the interviews. Maybe it's just me, but if the DLC is $10, maybe 5, I don't mind paying extra for another steel and all the games on one cart.

And I didn't even realize they got berzerk in there now, that's pretty sick. Would really like more Jaguar and Lynx too

Re: Soapbox: Marvel Vs. Capcom Was The Unsung Hero Of The June Nintendo Direct

IceClimbersMain

"God-awful soundtrack" talking about Marvel 2 is insane.

But yeah, this was the biggest announcement for me. I have the Arcade1Up Marvel Countercade with MSH, XvSF, MVC, and the Punisher and I have Marvel 2 on my Steam Deck, but I'll be getting this physically on Switch and on Steam day 1. There is so much time to be found even in the early Marvel fighters, then you throw MVC2 in there and I'll definitely be putting hundreds of hours into this.

Re: Yes, The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection Is Getting A Physical Release

IceClimbersMain

I'll be buying on Switch physical and Steam day 1.

Actually, this is probably the best Nintendo direct ever for me. Not just MVC2, but a whole Marvel COLLECTION on Switch, DQ3 AND DQ1+2 hd2d remake, DKCR on Switch (hopefully $40 or less), new MARIO AND LUIGI, new Mario Party, Metroid Prime 4, and a Zelda game where you actually play as Zelda???

Like yeah those are heavy hitters but I'll probably get all these day 1 and normally in a direct I'm only interested in 1 or 2 games. Oh yeah and Metal Slug and NSO

Re: Nintendo Is Seeking More Talent To Help Run Its Switch Online Service

IceClimbersMain

I want to see GameCube, DS and Wii games in NSO. The entire reason I bought a Switch was so I could play my favorite Nintendo games on the go and they never added them (with the small exceptions of Mario Galaxy, which is honestly one of my most played games on it) so I got a Steam Deck. That thing is my Mario Strikers Charged, Star Fox Zero and Wind Waker HD machine.

Heck, they should make a vertical grip for the Switch and then it could play DS games perfectly.

Re: Stealth Metroidvania 'Yars Rising' Gets An Easter-Egg Packed New Trailer

IceClimbersMain

On the Metroidvania/Roguelike discussion, I always find it funny when people defend calling games Metroidvanias, but the moment you call a platform fighter a "Smash clone" people are like "nuh uh it's is own thing don't compare it to Smash."

But on the game itself I am personally very much looking forward to this, Yars' Revenge is one of the best 2600 games.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?

IceClimbersMain

@Maubari You can read my other comment just above but I've personally had a Wii U pretty much brick, a Switch cartridge die after a few months, and multiple Joycon with drift, and one even had a problem I've never seen before; which means it's not a problem with the parts, it was an error in production (which I personally think is worse). So it's not an "opinion" it's over $500 worth of hardware from the past decade just failing. Not broken due to a drop, battery leak, whatever. Hardware failure. Never had a problem with an Xbox or Playstation controller, game, or system and to be honest, those controllers get tossed around in my box. My Joycon stay on the switch or even in their own case for Pete's sake and they still break.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?

IceClimbersMain

@WiltonRoots My Wii U got the nand failure long before anyone else, wouldn't play certain courses in MK8 and other games wouldn't even boot. My copy of Super Mario Maker 2 has corrupted data and completely stopped working on any Switch I've tested it on even though the contacts look good and I took care of it. I've had two Joycon with drift and another one with a faulty ribbon cable placement meaning it was slowly tearing over time unbeknownst to me, and finally broke after the warranty expired.

Don't get me wrong when I say I love Nintendo, I also have a Gamecube and all that good stuff but I've never had a game or system or even a controller fail from any other company. Nintendo's got it all set in the games, I mean Sony can barely convince people to buy a PS5. But when it comes to the hardware and the legal side of things, the company definitely struggles.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Needs More Characters Like Paper Mario's Vivian

IceClimbersMain

Eh, representation isn't a priority, if you can write the character and their transgenderism into the story, sure but just creating characters BECAUSE of what gender they want to be affirmed as almost undermines what makes them a character in the first place? Like if that's your ONLY reason for the character to exist then I feel like that's more insulting.

Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?

IceClimbersMain

Personally, I haven't paid more than $30 for a game in a long time, you can get any game for $30 within 6 months of release.

Whether that's a sale, storewide discounts, the local used game market, the only time I pay MSRP for a game is if I know it won't be available cheaper (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Deluxe Edition).

Now with that being said, these remasters should only be $40. From what I understand, TTYD doesn't add much to the original experience, SMRPG at least adds some post-game stuff.

Maybe it's because I already have these original games on original hardware or emulated but I see no reason to pick these up at $60, especially if they don't add anything.

I'd pay $30 for Mario RPG and $20 for TTYD.

Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?

IceClimbersMain

One of the biggest examples I see people using as a Remake is Final Fantasy VII Remake, but Remake is not a remake, it's a sequel. Completely different from the first game and exists outside of it.

But besides that, the way I look at it is "is this game intending to completely replace any need to play the original?" If yes, it's a remaster. A remake implies that there is enough being changed to warrant a "new" game, so you could still play the original and have a different experience, while a remaster is meant to replace the game by leaving no reason to play the original; it looks better, might have a few more qol features, and turns an 8/10 game to a 9/10 (if done properly). A remake can turn a 4/10 game into a 10/10 game.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Latest Studio - Who Is Shiver Entertainment?

IceClimbersMain

I can honestly see a big announcement trailer for the Switch 2 featuring just a TON of big third party titles all crammed into one showcase where it switches through the box art so fast that it goes through multiple per second.

Final Fantasy VII Remake (maybeeee Rebirth?), Persona 3 Reload, Baldur's Gate 3, whatever else the kids are playing these days "On the Go". Maybe some more games that the Steam Deck struggles with but the Switch 2 will be able to run, assuming it's more powerful than the Deck, of course.

But with that being said, I don't think a Switch 2 will match the install base of the current Switch, so it definitely makes sense to invest in more ports as the system winds down, especially since the Switch 2 will have them with backwards compatibility as well.

Re: Visual Novels Based On 'The Quintessential Quintuplets' Anime Come To Switch Next Week

IceClimbersMain

This anime was so interesting, it spawned its own subgenre of romance anime and there's an endless amount of merchandise of its characters, but the original author only wrote enough manga for two seasons and half a movie, then he was done.

It's a decent watch, a very short guessing game really. I don't know much about the games but I'm glad they're finally getting Western releases. Not paying $60 for them tho

Re: Soapbox: Square Enix's "Extraordinary Losses" And This Whole Xbox Mess Have Me Scared For The Future

IceClimbersMain

I picked up Octopath Traveler II for $36 on Steam Deck Oled recently, my first Squenix game that isn't something "big" like Final Fantasy, DQ, Nier or Kingdom Hearts.

And it's incredible, the art style has been used a good amount by them recently but it's so pretty and the rpg elements are hit right on the head. But I had that feeling playing it that it was a "dying genre" almost. Hopefully we could see more of these titles from Square but I honestly doubt it.
