When I really want to relax, I crank up my surround sound and I just ride around the safer parts of Hyrule on a horse and listen to that wonderfully serene soundtrack. The combination of the music in my front speakers and the ambient sounds of nature in the rest is just so...calming.
@Moroboshi876 @BionicDodo Thankfully, I am a Main Quest only person, so my time with long games is shortened, but even still, a 40 hour game turns into MONTHS for me.
I am disciplined in focusing on one game at a time, though (for about 95% of the time). Death Stranding is my primary focus. I also have Man of Medan in my list, but I could seriously bang that game out on a rare day where I get a few hours to myself.
I do switch (no pun intended) over to Dragon Quest XI from time to time to change things up if I feel I am getting too overloaded with playing Delivery Boy in Death Stranding.
And yes, Game Pass is the devil - especially Game Pass Ultimate where PC games also get in the way! LOL.
Being a multi-platform gamer is a blessing and a curse!
Even still, I think I might pick up Sonic 2 as a distraction game. I really enjoyed it more than the original Sonic game. Plus, I am happy that M2 added the Knuckles ability - that was such a fun addition, even if it kind of breaks the game a little.
I really should show my support for these AGES releases because there are a few I want.
Sadly, Dragon Quest XI and Daemon X Machina are still in my Switch backlog - both of which have taken a back seat to me getting through Death Stranding and Shenmue III on PS4 before the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
When you only get like 30 - 45 minutes per day of gaming, long games take FOREVER!
I really wish that Hamster could get access to Konami's licensed arcade games. It is the best in the business when it comes to console arcade releases. Even if the company had to charge a little extra for licensing fee's, I would buy every one it releases.
I really don't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars for the Arcade1Up cabinets.
The last same I bought with a SEGA logo on it was Alien Isolation. I did get Shenmue I & II HD for Christmas in 2018.
I bet a SEGA Arcade Collection handled by the brilliant M2 would sell well...then again, simply having more games people actually want in the AGES Collection would be even better.
VR Racing was a nice step up. Shinobi was an excellent choice. The rest feel like more niche games - minus Sonic.
Sonic 2?
Phantasy Star II?
Golden Axe series?
Altered Beast?
Toejam & Earl?
Shining Force series?
I know those games are available in the Genesis Collection; however, I feel like M2 can do a much better job with these classics than layering an emulator inside of Unity.
DLSS and Variable Rate Shading (VRS) (something DF doesn't cover in this instance) are the way to go for the next Hybrid platform.
I have said this before and I will say this again: I would much rather play a game rendered at a lower resolution if it means being able to have richer in-game details. DLSS may be "fake" 4K, 1080p, etc., but it doesn't look it!
VRS would take it a step further by reducing shading quality in non-focal point areas or while in motion to take even more burden off the GPU. The reduction in image quality goes entirely unnoticed (unless you took a screenshot and analyzed every aspect of the scene and compared it to a non-VRS solution) and you get a boost in framerate.
@nuovian Under performing from a hardware standpoint, because sales numbers of the system seem to suggest it's performing quite well.
I could sit here and argue hardware performance, but I won't bother - you've already made up your mind on the system's hardware (or are just trolling to stir the pot).
The real stars of that video are those awesome movie figurines in the display cases.
Still, congrats to Platinum for reaching goals. Glad The Wonderful 101 is getting a second chance in the spotlight. There is a ton of nuance to the game that even I couldn't fully grasp. I managed to finish it, but I got a lot low performance ratings.
IN my opinion, the PSX won for three main reasons:
1 - Sony courted third-party developers by not applying restrictions on them
2 - CD-ROM was cheaper than cartridge and could hold more data.
3 - The N64 games were more difficult to code.
By the time most third-party developers produce games "not possible" on Switch, it will be time for Nintendo to announce the next system.
I am very curious where this partnership between Nintendo and Nvidia leads to next. I hope it leads to another hybrid with AT MINIMUM Turing-level specs: dedicated ray tracing cores, DLSS and VRS capabilities. At least keep up with the technology, even if it can't keep up with pure horsepower. If that means 1080p maximum docked, then so be it. 720p portable is just fine.
Loved Wonderful 101! The last half of the game really started to give off Gurren Lagann vibes - which I totally dig.
It's definitely a game that is easy to play, but tough to master. I actually had to watch a combat tutorial on YouTube in order to fully grasp the complex combo system that exists in the game as I was so tired of getting terrible scores.
All-in-all, it's a game that deserves to be released to a 52 million strong user base.
@idrawrobots Not Microsoft's call, it isn't the publisher of this title. Microsoft bought the company after publishing had been secured for The Outer Worlds.
Regardless, buying a game box with a download code is just silly.
I am really impressed with what the development team accomplished with Luigi's Mansion. I really like how the team designed areas for mirrors in mind - adding details in the foreground that go almost entirely unnoticed until you look in the mirror and see that the unseen part of the room is just as richly detailed as the rest of the area.
It was convincing enough for me to think the developers were using ray traced reflections (even though I know the games does not).
Yes, it's cute. But it's nightmare fuel cuteness! Like, I am waiting to go through a tunnel and come out the other side in a blood-soaked train and a smiling little girl holding a Pikachu head.
Unless a port is a total mess on Switch, I actually choose the Switch version over the other versions - this is coming from a person who has both an Xbox One X AND a PS4 Pro. I just find the "pick up and play" capabilities of the Switch to be so much more convenient.
I share the TV with my family, so the majority of my time gaming is spent either playing on the Switch in tabletop mode (thanks Hori Stand) or using the Xbox App/Remote Play app on my Surface Book 2 to play Xbox One/PS4 games, respectively.
Here is what I would like to see from a pro model:
Whatever needs to happen to allow for the ability for Pro user to download optional high resolution texture packs for various games and still meet performance targets. If a user or a developer choses not to have high resolution textures, then the extra horsepower can be used for other changes such as stable/improved framerates, increased on-sceen environment details, longer draw distances, higher resolutions (e.g. 900p pushed to 1080p), or any combination it so choses.
I don't think there is really anything wrong with a game still running at the target base resolution, as long as the textures themselves don't look muddy on a TV. Sure, the textures will still look soft on 4K TV's, however it will be an improvement.
I could possibly see 4K media capabilities, but since the choice of media services is so limited, it seems pointless.
If that means improved battery, higher internal storage, an increase in CPU power, and a bump in RAM, then so be it.
One thing I don't hope for is a docked-only experience as my Switch is mostly used in tabletop mode and I would like for it to stay that way.
As far as Pro hardware exclusives...I would hate to see it, but as games start to push into the next-gen exclusively, it may be necessary for next-gen games to get ported to Switch. On the other hand, by the time developers fully transition into capabilities well beyond current-gen, the Switch might be at the end of it's lifecycle, so it may not be necessary.
I really wish that Hamster could get some licensed arcade games into the mix (TMNT, Bucky O'Hare, X-Men, Aliens, etc.) - even if it means increasing the cost by a couple of dollars.
Also, I really wish Johnny Turbo would either update their titles with some more screen options or turn the licenses over to Hamster to get handled properly. I really like some of the games that have been released under the line, but the lack of graphical options turned me off.
I played the whole game pre-performance patch (mostly in tabletop mode) and while there were a few hiccups here and there, the game wasn't in as terrible of a state the internet makes it out to be. Input lag was slightly noticeable, but I could easily compensate for it.
I did play post 1.03, and it was noticeably more responsive. I'll do a second playthrough, eventually. My Switch backlog grew after Christmas (as did my backlog on other platforms), so it'll probably be a while before I ever get back to it - especially with Dragon Quest XI being one of the games in said backlog.

I remember reading that the person who designed the compression method used to squeeze both discs of Resident Evil 2 onto an N64 cart said he could also squeeze all three discs of Final Fantasy 7 onto an N64 cart - sadly this was at the end of the N64 lifecycle.
I feel like Sekiro "perfected" the idea that death is your fault. With no stats governing equipment and armor, the only thing coming between you and victory are reflexes and strategy.
Sure, there are things you can do to help (increase Attack power, Health, and Posture), but all-in-all the game is fair across the board.
Dark Souls does have that strategy element too, but I feel like the game's Stats can prevent one from forming a proper strategy since gear is dependent on those stats. I feel like Dark Souls almost requires a second playthrough so you have the foresight necessary to form those strategies, where as Sekiro is accessible out of the gate.
I feel like people would be mighty disappointed by a Pokémon being the next DLC fighter in Smash - I know I would. This is no offense to Pokémon fans, but there are quite a few Pokémon already in the roster. Adding a DLC Pokémon would be about as exciting as adding yet another Fire Emblem character to the roster as DLC.
I feel like the DLC fighters should be limited to "pie in the sky" additions.

Yes, I do stream my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro to my Surface Book via the applicable streaming applications, but the Switch is just so much more convenient and isn't prone to occasional lag spikes during gameplay.
What would be nice is if a Switch Pro had a separate performance profile based on being plugged in AND undocked. (e.g. 720p resolution with full GPU clock speeds). Using the Hori Stand on a TV tray simply mimics playing on a small 720p TV, so why not get the full performance of the system?
I'll take any rumor of a Switch Pro with a grain of salt at this point, thought.
I wonder if Nintendo is figuring out cool gameplay mechanics for ray-tracing to warrant developing some powerful hardware to utilize it. Touring-based hybrid platform anyone (wishful thinking)?
