Re: Harvest Moon Added To Japan's Switch Online Super Famicom Library

GamingFan4Lyf

@Pak-Man If you don’t know how to do what @CodyMKW suggested, you have to create a Japanese account and then link it to a profile your Switch first. Then download the Japanese apps and play them using your main account that has the NSO access (no need to pay for NSO twice)

I think you can change regions on your main profile; but it’s a pain; so having a secondary Japanese account is always helpful.

Re: Best Of 2021: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

GamingFan4Lyf

I absolutely loved the Switch the first few years. The amount of indie titles and exclusives was top notch. I had both an Xbox One X and a PS4 Pro and the Switch was still played way more.

Sadly, that started to shift towards the other consoles as there was less on Switch that interested me and didn't hit Game Pass (once that hit it's stride).

Metroid Dread was the only Switch title I bought in 2021. 2022 is looking like Bayonetta 3 and the sequel to Breath of the Wild only unless Nintendo has some surprises up it's sleeve.

I do think it's much easier to be a Switch-only gamer than it was to be a Wii U-only gamer, and that is a great thing. There are a ton of great games on the system. I wish Nintendo had stronger exclusive releases like it had in the first couple of years.

The only thing that pulled me away from Switch as my primary was Game Pass Ultimate.

Re: Teardown Suggests The Switch OLED Dock Is 4K 60fps-Ready And 'Future Proof'

I don't see Nintendo releasing another iteration of the current Switch. Any new console coming from the company at this point should be the successor to the Switch and not some minor hardware adjustment to let it hit 4K resolution.

Honestly, what good would it really do? So it looks clearer on a 4K screen?

Great, but developers will still need to work within the confines of the current Switch hardware.

I love the Switch - it's been a great system; but I think it's time to focus on the next big thing from Nintendo, now.

Re: Nintendo Direct Offers Up Even More Metroid Dread Footage, And It's Still Looking Epic

GamingFan4Lyf

@EriXz Some things have slipped for me as well - my Facebook feed will auto-play the latest trailer and I just try to scroll as fast as possible without getting spoiled.

Thankfully, I don't think I have seen any new abilities beyond Samus's usual arsenal, and I am not paying that much attention to actual environment to have any secrets spoiled.

It's tough though as Nintendo is like really ramping up the ads for Dread.

I miss the days of just a single Nintendo Power spread of the game and that was it.

Re: Talking Point: With Sony And Microsoft In Next-Gen Limbo, E3 Is Nintendo's For The Taking

GamingFan4Lyf

I'll be honest, unless there is something on Metroid Prime 4, Breath of the Wild sequel, or Bayonetta 3, I am not so sure if Nintendo's presentation will excite me. I want to see new stuff, not more of what I already know is coming.

I'll still be watching in hopes that Nintendo has something that interests me up it's sleeve. But even Nintendo's output hasn't been as strong (for my interests) lately.

  • I am not a Pokemon fan
  • I am not an Animal Crossing fan
  • I don't have the patience for Fire Emblem games
  • Mario sports titles don't interest me (except Mario Kart)
  • Not really interested in getting Skyward Sword again - yes it was a great game, but it's tough going back to older Zelda titles after the brilliance of BotW.
  • Not interested in getting Super Mario 3D World again.
  • Splatoon's novelty has worn off on me - I barely played Splatoon 2 after a few weeks of ownership
  • I don't have anyone for Smash Bros. couch co-op, so even that game ran it's course after a few weeks of ownership

Right now, the only upcoming Switch game I want is No More Heroes 3.

My Xbox Series X is my multi-platform machine (I also have a PS5 for Sony exclusives).

I am not really interested in a Switch Pro model unless I can't play the sequel to Breath of the Wild or Metroid Prime 4 on a standard Switch.

All that being said, I am happy that the Switch has been a big comeback for Nintendo after the Wii U. Plenty of games have been released and support has been strong. Sadly, much of the output lately has either not been of interest to me, or I have bought on other systems.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year

GamingFan4Lyf

Hopefully there won't be any exclusives to this new model - though Nintendo does seem to have a habit of doing so (I guess to better justify it's existence).

If there aren't, I won't bother with it. I don' t have a 4K TV, plus I already have a PS5 and a Series X.

If there are exclusives, I'll have to wait and see what those exclusives will be before I consider a purchase.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Five More Titles

GamingFan4Lyf

@BanjoPickles While I certainly agree, I think the biggest issue is that everything is so spread out and some are even of questionable emulation quality.

While the Wii/Wii U VC certainly wasn't the best emulation, it was unified.

It would have been amazing if the games under those collections were handled in the same care that was used for the current NES/SNES for NSO - which is basically the same emulation used in the NES/SNES Classic.

Most are great. Like M2 does an amazing job. Hamster does an amazing job. Johnny Turbo, not so much.

It would be great to have everything under "one roof" - so to speak. Plus, having them under the same roof means they are fully optimized for the NES/SNES Controllers that we could buy - sure you can just use it to play the games, but sometimes certain features of the Collection frontend are locked out due to lack of button inputs. The NES/SNES Apps "just work" with those controllers without any "song and dance".

I mean, at the end of the day, the companies creating these collections should get their paycheck for their back catalog; but I just wish Nintendo took the same approach it did with the VC to get them all under the same banner again.

Still, the selection of classic games on Switch is gigantic!

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Five More Titles

GamingFan4Lyf

I was so excited for NES/SNES NSO when they first came out - even bought the controllers through Nintendo.

Now, not so much. I feel like there are so many more titles out there that aren't making the cut. I am guessing the best titles are already locked up behind individual third-party developer collections for purchase.

Still, it would have been great to have a one-stop shop for all things NES/SNES.

I miss the Virtual Console days on the Wii.

Re: Cave's DoDonPachi Is Coming To Switch, But It's Not The One You Want

GamingFan4Lyf

@Darlinfan Sure, I am not a huge fan of shmups; but it just feels like there are a TON of shmups getting released on the system. Like the Switch is just a shmup machine. Seems every day there is a shmup announcement for Switch.

I am happy for fans of the genre, but there is such a thing as too much of one thing.

I would complain if there were too many back-to-back-to-back releases of any particular genre - fan or not. It just starts to feel stale.

Re: Nintendo President Outlines Reasons For Increased R&D Spend, Including Next-Gen Hardware

GamingFan4Lyf

@Ambassador_Kong I think depends on how the whole Nvidia/Nintendo relationships pans out.

If Nintendo continues doing business with the company and relies on Nvidia hardware for the next console, I think it could be something special.

If Nintendo goes with another hybrid console, all it needs is RTX (with a non-DirectX Version of RTX IO), DLSS, VRS, a decent RAM pool, and a better CPU and the system could be a BEAST given the form factor! Native 4K doesn't even have to be an option since it will look the part.

Nvidia has done an amazing job of achieving more with less these days. Something Nintendo strives for as well.

Re: Nintendo's Upcoming Release Schedule For 2021 Looks Positive, With Room For More

GamingFan4Lyf

Man, I really wish we would see Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, or the sequel to Breath of the Wild this year.

Unless Nintendo has something else up it's sleeve, there isn't much there for me.

I am not a Pokemon fan. I am not a fan of Mario sports titles (except Mario Kart), and I am not a fan of visual novels. I might consider Skyward Sword HD in July, though.

I wish I could say I am excited for Splatoon 3, but I stopped playing Splatoon 2 after a couple of weeks. The novelty wore off on me and I just don't like competitive games.

Oh well, the Switch is always there when something does come around that I am interested in.

I am a life-long Nintendo fan, but I also have a Series X and a PS5 to fill the multi-platform void.
