@anoyonmus I know about Corpse Party. I haven't played it, but I have seen gameplay. It's gory, sure. But it's not scary to me. I don't find any anime horror to be scary (I don't think it's bad, just not scary).
I guess I am just so desensitized, now. Alien: Isolation is probably the most terrifying game I have ever played, so it takes a pretty high bar to scare me.
Plus, this a visual novel - again, not my cup of tea.
Basically, I found the actual teaser trailer creepier than this reveal. I was hoping for something that would have the same mood - not looking at a bunch of anime still shots.
I am happy for those that are looking forward to this. For me, I am let down because that initial teaser really had me hoping for something drastically different.
It would be pretty interesting if Nintendo dipped its toes into making some Mature first-party developed titles. Eternal Darkness was great, but that wasn't internally developed.
With Nintendo's creativity, I bet it could rival some of the best M-rated games in the business!
@MysticalOS The uploaded trailer is 1080p/60fps. Nintendo isn't one of those companies that leaves things ambiguous. If it's 60fps, a trailer will be uploaded in 60fps. If it's 30fps, it will be uploaded in 30fps.
Also, Nintendo is pretty good about showing trailers running on the hardware it was intended. So, it's a pretty safe bet this is the game running on an actual Switch and not some sneaky "Switch 2" showing.
I don't remember where I saw this, but I thought the original story of Donkey Kong was much darker and seems to have been slightly modified.
So, from my memory the story is this:
Donkey Kong was Jumpman's pet who escaped due to Jumpan's poor treatment of Donkey Kong and kidnapped Jumpman's girlfriend.
I have been trying to find evidence of the "poor treatment" part, but have yet to find it. So, either it's the Mandela Effect or Nintendo has done a really good job erasing the whole "animal cruelty" part of the story.
I mean, if you combine the length of all 3 games in their original form, it would be equivalent to a modern day RPG - so might as well make a trilogy out of it!
I love all kinds of games, so either approach is fine with me. A boss battle in a Mario game can be just as fun as a boss battle in a Soulsbourne title - but they are fun for entirely different reasons!
It seems very odd that Nintendo shifted to a 30fps framerate here. Nintendo is usually pretty meticulous about these kinds of things.
I don't personally care as I played games like Final Fantasy 16 in 30fps, it's just a strange decision for Nintendo to do this.
Heck even Metroid Prime Remastered maintained 60fps and that game punched well above its weight in the visual department - looking better than the so-called "impossible ports" running at 30fps!
I don't personally care about what was censored, it's just more the principle of censorship that annoys me.
It's this whole idea that the needs (or feelings) of a few now far outweigh the needs (or feelings) of the many.
Companies are so afraid of the X-mob, it's laughable.
Sure, seeing the images is a Google Search away; but people aren't mad they can't see titillating images in the game, they are mad it was removed because...feelings.
It's also an issue because Crystal Dynamics put a disclaimer saying the games would be unchanged.
Some people may see it as childish to kick up a fuss about a couple of silly pictures that can be found online, but some people actually still want freedom of expression without submitting to a vocal minority.
You can't break a boulder without slowing chipping away at seemingly small pieces of it first.
@kedireturns Wow. I never said I didn't appreciate the PS2. Heck, I ended up contributing to its numbers - once for a fat (that I sold) and once for a slim (after a used Slim I bought for dirty cheap ended up not reading discs properly after only a few months).
Another thing that probably contributed to PS2 selling higher is that the system itself had a crappy disc drive. If you used the DVD player too much, it stopped reading games and DVD playback skipped.
Almost every person I know had to replace their PS2 at least once because the drives failed.
Look, I loved the PS2. It had a fantastic library of games, but much like the Wii selling 100+ million because of Wii Sports and being used in rehab centers and nursing homes for reason outside of gaming (e.g. mobility training), the PS2 has some bloat due to non-gaming reasons.
People bought a Switch because it plays games and other than Joy-Con Drift issues, hasn't had any major hardware defects.
Now, I am sure some of the Switch sales are due to rare hardware issues (that probably accounts for a small percentage of any console, really), lost consoles, and console mishandling. But with the disc drive issues the PS2 had, I bet it accounts for much higher percentage than others.
Plus, in my area, getting a DVD player was at least $400 at that time.
I would bet that 65% of the sales of the PS2 were due to how good it was as a gaming platform and the other 35% are for other reasons.
It would be great if Switch does surpass the PS2 - especially given the fact that Nintendo will do it solely based on a gaming product and not doubling as something else (e.g. being the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time of release like the PS2).
Here's the thing about contracting...whatever company those contractors work for will just move them on to another contract.
I have been a contractor for...holy cow...17 years now and I have yet to ever go without a paycheck even with contracts going away - I simply filled an opening elsewhere.
I think as long as Nintendo isn't excluding the development team out of the end credits, why does it matter if we know up front?
Other than Pokemon Games making it out the door in bad states, I'd say that Nintendo's QA of most of its IP is extremely tough.
Nintendo has a certain level of quality that it demands with regards to its IP that no matter what developer handles the game, it is about as equivalent to in-house development as anyone can get.
This seems to suggest that this game didn't require the Cell Processor and therefore might not be as difficult to port as people may think (especially if the work done for the X360 version still exists on a dusty HDD somewhere)
@KingMike I think it was only reduced FMV output as the Blu-ray was able to full 1080p and the X360 version was compressed. I think actual in-game assets were the same.
Funny because if you play FF13 on an X1X or Series X, you get 4K video and graphics (there is a DF analysis of it and SE actually went above and beyond for the X1X Enhanced version - mainly shocked that the FMVs got a boost along with the game).
@Truegamer79 @Roibeard64 There was an article a while back that Konami had an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 done, it just never saw the light of day (I think it was a matter of storage size being too small on X360 and it would have been a ton of disks).
Now, I am sure that codebase is gone, but at least it does prove that MGS4 isn't solely reliant on PS3 architecture to work.
I think Uncharted was more reliant on PS3 hardware and Naughty Dog were able to get it onto PS4. Now whether Konami wants to do the find of engineering work Naughty Dog did for Uncharted is a whole other story.
While I absolutely loved the direction that Super Mario Wonder took, Super Mario Bros. success has been having a new hook/game mechanic with each new title (except for the New Super Mario Bros. series and the Galaxy series which kept things mostly the same just with new levels and some new power-ups).
For all the "greatness" of the original Metroid, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is new to the series unless they were simply curious about the original version. I would recommend this one, instead!
@UltimateOtaku91 @Vyacheslav333 I'm not sure anything can overtake the sales of the PS2 when you take into account that it was also the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time and could have lead to a bloat in sales.
Plus, the PS2 was prone to disc drive failures and required replacing. Though I am sure all console sales number have a little bit of "padding" based on replacements bought due to hardware failures (or in the Switch case, potentially accidental damage).
I'd say, as a purely gaming machine, toppling the Nintendo DS is the one to beat.
That isn't a slam against the PS2. It was still a solid machine with an amazing library of games - all I am saying is that the number is probably skewed a little bit based on its non-gaming appeal.
@NintendoByNature You are in for an absolute treat! Final Fantasy VI, to me, is the best of the series! The game has some wonderful highs and some pretty dark lows. It really took the series into new places and explored the characters more than any game that came before it.
I will offer only this one hint: Wait for Shadow by the airship. It doesn't make sense now, but it will.
I really need to get back into buying these Arcade Archives games. Love me some arcade goodness - so many great memories in the arcade back in the day.
@AlienigenX It was genius of Square Enix to call it Final Fantasy VII Remake because if you look at Remake like Re-Make, it puts the game into a different perspective.
Palworld certainly wears its influence on its sleeve, but I am guessing someone has already "done the research" knowing full well Nintendo (or the Pokemon Company) might step in.
Not saying they shouldn't step in - if actual IP theft has occurred than it should be prosecuted accordingly - I am just not so sure if it has a case as none of the character look to be exact copies of (just heavily influenced by) Pokemon characters.
I think I barely used the SD Card I purchased for the Switch when it first came out.
The lovely thing about the Switch was that, as long as you bought physical, storage wasn't used that much - I know there are a few more notorious games out there, by and large everything is on the cartridge and the need for installs is a minimum.
That being said, 256GB with expandable storage will probably be the solution Nintendo goes with assuming that Nintendo can do better with cartridge sizes for the next system.

Re: 'Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club' Launches On Switch Next Month
@anoyonmus I guess, but the whole anime aesthetic mutes the horror for me.
I was hoping for something more like Silent Hill.
Re: 'Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club' Launches On Switch Next Month
I am sadly disappointed by this. I was hoping for Nintendo to embrace creating a full-on horror game.
I guess for fans of the Detective Club series, this is exciting. It's not my cup of tea.
Re: Horror Dev Bloober Team Says It's Working On A New Project For Nintendo Platforms
It's still crazy that all we have of this project is that trailer with 0 context.
Nintendo is taking notes from Hideo Kojima.

Color me intrigued.

@Ulysses I'll take it however I can get it. I need that Metroid Prime goodness! 😅
Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed For Switch, Launching 2025
YES, YES, YES!
I am so excited for this! The fact the trailer runs at 60fps is amazing!
Retro Studios are absolute wizards!
My guess is it will be a cross-generation release, though (potentially even a Switch 2 launch title).
Re: New 2D Adventure 'The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom' Announced For This September
Really looking forward to this one. I love how Nintendo changed the gameplay up to reflect The Triforce of Wisdom aspect of Zelda.
Plus, I am really digging this artstyle for the "2D" style of Zelda games.

Re: Rumour: It Looks Like Nightdive Studio's Next Remaster Is 2002's 'The Thing'
The movie in 4K HDR10 and DTS:X is simply amazing (plus it's just a great movie in general).
I never played the game, but I heard it had really cool mechanics and was a great "sequel" to the film.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?
Just give me the game as Nintendo intends.
And since most of Nintendo's output is 60fps, it's a win all around.
Nintendo's takes such great care with regard to art style, that even at 1080p, it looks great on a 4K TV, so resolution doesn't really matter so much.
I'd say the only thing Nintendo really needs to get on board with is antialiasing.
I am so tired of "Performance" and "Quality" Modes being in games: just pick a performance/visual target and lock to that target.

Crazy how Nintendo is still killing it with the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?
@Yozora146_ Nope, no joke here, I genuinely don't know.
When Pokemon started gaining popularity in the United States, I was like 16 or 17 (maybe even a touch older), so I completely "missed" Pokemon.
Still, knowing there is no "complete" version of any given Series would drive me insane.
Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?
@Yozora146_ But the third version is the "complete" version right?
Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?
I don't even understand why there are 2 versions to be honest. Aren't they the same exact game?
Re: So, Will You Be Getting Princess Peach: Showtime! For Switch?
Pre-ordered and it will be here tomorrow.
My daughter and I played the demo and it's a fun game (even if it doesn't look too challenging for an old "pro" like myself).

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Takes Its Fight To The Top
I just realized that the Xbox Series consoles are the 2nd best Xbox generation in Japan!

Anyways, congrats to Nintendo for continuing to dominate in Japan!
