Fancy proving your karting prowess on the track and possibly winning $25's worth of coins to redeem on the eShop? Well, if you're in North America you have the chance to do just that this weekend, although the odds of placing high enough to nab those coins seems pretty slim.
US, Canadian and Mexican owners of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription) can compete in this in-game event for a chance to win 2,500 My Nintendo Gold Points. You'll be able to compete in a maximum of 24 races each of the three days, with your score being based on your in-game rankings. The top 8 players with the highest accumulated scores at the end of each day will win the points which can be redeemed against games on the Switch eShop.
You can only win the points once even if you rank in the top 8 on multiple days, although the likelihood of placing in the top 8 at all seems slim, no? Across three massive countries? Perhaps we simply need to sharpen our karting skills!
If you think you've got what it takes to beat a continent's worth of Mario Karters, it's running from 12.00 -18:00 (PT) each day from the 17th - 19th January (you can check out the legal nitty-gritty here if that sort of thing excites you). Access the tournament by selecting Online Play > Tournaments > Search by Code and then inputting the corresponding code below according to the day:
Day | Tournament Code To Search |
---|---|
Fri 17th Jan 2020 | 0799-6132-1003 |

Let us know if you plan on participating in this Mario Kart event this weekend, and certainly leave us a comment if you're one of the 24 (!) people to win those lovely Gold Points.

I hope the start giving gold points prizes to pokemon competition winners too.
I’ve never tried a tournament game before, so this will be my first!
I know I’m going to get my proverbially handed to me on a plate but heck, worth a try....
UK / European version needed
I'm in on this....don't think I'll be getting the top 8 but it'll be fun anyways.
Hmm, I may throw my hat in the ring - why not?
Even if there is little chance of winning, it still gives us an incentive to play and adds a little extra tension to the races. Hopefully it'll come to Europe. I've got a seperate US account but my subscription is with my UK one.
Talking of MK8D tournaments, Nintendolife should organise another one, it's been a while. They're always fun. What do you think @dartmonkey?
So, what rules will be used for competition ?
Is it a sign? Let’s pray for DLC in the near future!
Time to get that old Buggybud out of the garage
Let's a go! I'm really feeling this.
Somebody will definitely get blue shelled out of $25.
Can't hurt to try! I'm just legit surprised that Nintendo Life actually acknowledged the existence of countries other than the United States in an article mentioning North America. Even though Canada is a Commonwealth country and Queen Elizabeth is our sovereign and you know, we stood by the British Empire while traitorous Americans rebelled, Nintendo Life probably couldn't find Canada on a map if it tried. @dartmonkey
I’ll give it a go, it’ll be fun
the problem here is that there are invincible people playing this game
