Re: Sega Will Start Selling NFTs Based On Its IPs This Summer

GamingFan4Lyf

All this crypto currency stuff makes zero sense. How is this bad for the environment for a digital transaction?

I mean, if digital transactions suck up energy, then shouldn't the entire web go down to save the environment?

I'm not ragging on being eco-friendly, I just genuinely don't understand how this is can be worse than the internet's entire existence. Heck, even the availability of this website alone requires 24/7 energy consumption to stay online for us to enjoy.

Re: KEMCO RPG Asdivine Cross Arrives on Switch Very Soon

GamingFan4Lyf

@andrewclear ARPG is probably a terrible word on my part, since that implies just spamming the attack button with an occasional menu selection, I guess, just more...dynamic RPG: Things are going on instead of just looking at two sides of a field standing around and you are selecting the Attack, Magic, Item, Command menu selections.

Kingdom Hearts is probably my favorite ARPG, though.

I think Final Fantasy VII Remake had a good system. It wasn't a button masher, it wasn't turn-based. It was more like "this is what is actually going on during build-up of the ATB". I felt it was a brilliant way of mixing dynamic combat with classic turn-based mechanics.

Re: The Absolute Worst Castlevania Is Coming To Switch This Week

GamingFan4Lyf

The North American version was even worse!

Normal enemies could suck down like 1/3 of your health in a single hit. That wall section in the beginning of the game could kill you in 2 hits - with a single hit from a brick taking 3/4 of your health.

It's pretty rough to say the least and clearly designed to suck up quarters.

Re: Review: Apex Legends - A Great Game Hamstrung By A Compromised Switch Port

GamingFan4Lyf

@anoyonmus I mean, it's possible. Just because a game has an "animated" look, doesn't mean that it's light on the graphics pipeline, either.

Textures and shading technique make a game animated or realistic. Some of the character models in Plants vs Zombies are rather complex - even more complex than a football player (American football or otherwise).

Will it happen? Who knows? But it does pave the way for possibilities.

Re: Talking Point: Here's Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About The Rumoured Switch Pro's 720p Screen

GamingFan4Lyf

@elpardo1984 I agree, and that's the beauty of DLSS. Internally the game can render at 1080p - so 1080p/60fps is perfectly fine - but then DLSS scales it to 4K.

The problem is that 1080p tends to be a little on the low side for a 4K upscale perfectly with DLSS. It doesn't look terrible, but when doing a side-by-side comparison of native 4K vs. DLSS 4K, it's not as clean. Hence why 1440p is the ideal resolution for 4K as side-by-side comparisons are comparable.

I think for the purposes of the Switch, continuing to render natively at 1080p is fine.

Re: Talking Point: Here's Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About The Rumoured Switch Pro's 720p Screen

GamingFan4Lyf

If 4K output docked is the only thing this "Pro" model does, I will probably not buy it because, really, all a "Pro" model would need is for Nvidia to insert some AI cores to do DLSS 2.0 and voila, reconstructed 4K.

It may not be the sharpest 4K reconstruction since pixel counts in the 1440p range seem to be the sweet spot for DLSS, but it would be much sharper than the TV scaling a 1080p (and sometimes lower) image.

I don't have a 4K TV, so it's not a selling point for me.

Now if it actually improves the overall gaming performance across the board, well, then I will be interested. Not saying the Switch performs terrible at all, but locking more problematic games to their target framerates/resolutions (when using DRS) would be nice.

Vastly improved I/O would be pretty sweet too - I have been spoiled by the Series X. Sub 10 second loads times (and in some cases sub 5 second load times) are amazing!

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

GamingFan4Lyf

I asked (and got) 3D All Stars for Christmas (physical) to prepare for this inevitability.

I may not get around to playing the games (as I have already played them once before when they were "new" on their original systems), but now I now have a collectors item. Looking back, I should have kept it in the shrink wrap.

I do agree though, this is a pretty crappy thing to do. I mean, I can understand cutting off physical version production, but keep the digital version.

Re: Blizzard Arcade Collection Announced For Nintendo Switch, Out Today On The eShop

GamingFan4Lyf

Blizzard actually provides these games for free (PC-only):

Step 1) Log into the blizzard.com website
Step 2) Go to Account Settings
Step 3) Click on Download Games
Step 4) Scroll all the way down to the bottom to "Classic Games"
Step 5) Download the games.

EDIT - Rock n' Roll Racing is barebones. No licensed music and once you start the game, you can't select a character or anything. You just race. It also only contains 3 tracks. Not great. The README for the game does state it is simply a "lite" version of the game.

Lost Vikings and Blackthorne seem to be complete versions.

Re: Capcom Arcade Stadium Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

GamingFan4Lyf

Bought the whole pack. Love it!

Hopefully, down the line, more packs will get added - maybe even some of the licensed games?

AvP would be nice. D&D games would be nice, too! I suspect, if that were to happen, that particular pack would cost more since 1) they are super popular and 2) licensing.

There are a few classic games I'd like to see like Gun.Smoke, Magic Sword, and Black Tiger.

I am surprised Knights of the Round and The King of Dragons aren't there.

Maybe add some of the 3D titles like Rival Schools, Star Gladiator, and Plasma Sword.

How about some Naomi games like Power Stone and Power Stone 2?

Anyways, super happy with the price for 30 games - came out to about $1.33/game for basically an entire arcade.

Re: SNK Vs. Capcom, One Of Video Gaming's Greatest Crossovers, Is Now Available On Switch

GamingFan4Lyf

@Slowdive I had the Japanese version of the game for Dreamcast (it actually had a mod chip before using boot discs was a thing). I think the Japanese version even played in English.

Sadly it took a dive off a desk and got a chip in the disc and was never playable again. $75 down the drain (it cost that much because this was early 2000's and importing games wasn't as accessible as today).

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

GamingFan4Lyf

Honestly, who cares if it's offensive? When I hear something offensive, I don't lose it. I just move on. In fact, being offended by something tells me, as a person, that I am more evolved. I would be worried about myself if I wasn't offended.

However, this is the difference between a free country and not a free country.

In a free country, you, as a person, simply consider it bad taste and move on.

In a non-free country: government ban and no one can make the choice to consider it bad taste and move on!

Re: Random: Amateur Dev Releases Reimagined Remakes Of The 1993 Zelda CD-i Games

GamingFan4Lyf

I downloaded these the second I found out. I loved these games back in the day - and I still do!

Yes, the animation isn’t the best, the voice acting is pretty bad, and the boss battles are a joke, but they are rather unique takes on the Zelda franchise. There are still some staples of the series in the game - requiring certain items for levels/bosses/enemies.

In fact, these remasters really do wonders for the game. No more slow gameplay and terrible input lag. Plus the remastered mode add some great Quality of Life changes that make the game feel so much better to play.

I recommend trying these games out, if you have never played them. This is the best way to do it. I mean, we are talking free here.

Not great Zelda games compared to Nintendo’s work, but still fun in their own way.

Re: The Company Behind Control's Cloud Version Is Bringing More "Major" Titles To Switch

GamingFan4Lyf

This worked very well on my network connection (Gigabit FIOS). I was surprised how the game looked like it was running natively on the console. I didn't see any compression artifacts or anything.

Pretty funny when a Switch game surpasses the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X version as it ran ray-traced effects in the Quality mode. I mean, I know it's not running natively on the system, but it's still funny.

That being said, I wouldn't pay for this (I already own the Xbox One version anyways). It was cool to demo, though!

Re: Video: Another Famous Zelda Location Returns In Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity

GamingFan4Lyf

@DonSerrot @QueenKittenWrite I think it would be cool if Nintendo had a Zelda game that actually ends the timeline split.

Like, the 3 timelines (or realities) are actually draining power from the 3 individual pieces of the Triforce. So Link in one of the timelines has to travel through all three timelines using a special trinket in order to strengthen the individual pieces of the Triforce and then travel back in time to the very moment that the timeline splits - so basically Link travels to the Temple of Time to defeat Ganondorf before he has a chance to get to Link as he is pulling the Master Sword.

Once done, the three timelines kind of merge and create the Hyrule we see in BotW. This also justifies the "swearing in" ceremony in Breath of the Wild when Zelda references the heroes of the individual timelines to Link.

Boom, no more 3 timelines moving forward.
