@TYRANACLES We hang out at his house every other Friday night (he has a nice 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup in his living room) and have a couple of drinks and watch movies/listen to music.
I'd be interested seeing the ages of the people as they pick their console. I am 41.
I personally think the Gamecube had the best. It was a time when Nintendo experimented most with Mario, Luigi, Zelda, and Metroid to bring out some of the most beloved games in their respective series.
NES was more defined by Capcom, Konami, and SNK.
SNES was more defined by Square, Enix (back when they were separate), Konami, and Capcom.
N64 felt kind of barebones for first-party games. Mario 64, Zelda 64, Mario Kart 64, and Smash were the only first-party games of interest to me that come to mind.
Wii was more of a continuation of Gamecube but with motion controls.
Wii U...well...it was there. A few great games, but the rereleases on Switch are more successful.
Switch has been amazing too; but Gamecube had more consistent first-party output.
@Strumpan I was kind of the same way. I never fully wrapped my head around the combat system of the game.
I did "okay" but then suddenly got stuck on a hard boss and for the life of me could never get past because...well...I had no idea how to build a good deck for battle.
This news is disappointing - even though the VO in the original game is horrid. I may have to give these two games another go - despite my weak understanding of card-battle systems.
It's much easier finding useful resources for games now than in 2004, should I get stuck.
It's tough for me, but I am waiting for the physical version to release.
I love the new look and everything looks silky smooth from the gameplay I have seen.
To me, this looks to be the most graphically impressive game I have ever seen on Switch. I don't even think Doom looked this good and that ran at 30fps.
When you look at the side-by-side comparisons to the original game, the amount of added detail is astonishing.
The texture work is impressive.
The geometry improvements are massive.
The lighting is jaw-dropping.
The shadows look fantastic.
Truly impressive given the limited resources of the Switch and a cut above any "impossible port" the system has had in the past.
2022 was low on Switch titles of interest for me:
I bought Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and got Bayonetta 3 for Christmas. I did impulse buy Dragon Quest 1 - 3 from the eShop. But, yeah, not much for Switch for me.
2023 will actually be more fruitful for me:
Octopath Traveler II
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
Bayonetta Origins
TLoZ: Tears of a Kingdom
Pikmin 4 (hopefully)
What an amazing departure from the usual Bayonetta antics as well as kind of a different route for Platinum as well.
I really hope this does well for sales because I think this looks like a true gem. The music sounds great. The voice acting seems top-notch. And I love the whimsical take on the Bayonetta lore.
I recently bought DQ 1 - 3 on Switch that are based on the mobile versions. Love the artwork and the update music, but now, I want HD-2D versions of all retro Dragon Quest games!
I also want HD-2D versions of Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.
Xenogears would be great too since it already had a similar look.
Nothing against the Hellena Taylor; but no laws were broken and, to be honest, I don't care who voices Bayonetta.
Am I disappointed that her voice will be slightly different? Sure. Will it detract from the game? Not one bit.
Also, it's not as if the morality police are coming to look at my gaming collection to give me some kind of Scarlet Letter for having the game as if my gaming collection needs to be some kind of virtue signal that I am a "good person".
Jennifer Hale had "no right" to step in as Bayonetta?!
Hellena Taylor turned down the offer. Anyone at that point has the right to step in that wants the job.
Must not be that hard up for money if she is able to turn down paid work.
Just my two cents.
And while Bayonetta might be popular, she doesn't exactly have long monologues. She mostly just spews out witty one-liners. I just don't see the voice sessions being a month worth of work (40-hour work week for 4 weeks) for her character.
I'll be honest, I had to look up Zonai. I guess I should have paid more attention to Ruin names and stuff because I totally missed something.
Granted I only really paid attention to main story characters and tribe names. Guess Breath of Wild took cues from Dark Souls in terms of fleshing out lore.
I played this at PAX East back in April. It was a fun callback to Bushido Blade. I even had the developers show me a thing or two about the combo system and the cool cinematic kills that happen should you pull them off successfully.
I loved PAX as, being a programmer myself, I get to actually talk to the people making the games. They talk with such passion for their creation that it's hard to not appreciate their work.
I am loving this game so much! Every Xenoblade game has been a hit with me and every release has been better than the previous title.
I like that Monolith Soft still continues to refine the battle system while still keeping it familiar. Companion AI is also so good that you can really focus on playing a particular Class Type that you like and not worry about switching. I like to play the Fighter types, so when I switch up classes for characters, I switch characters to match the play type I prefer.
What amazes me the most is that Monolith Soft manages to churn out these amazing and large-scale RPGs so "quickly". I know it's been 5 years since Xenoblade Chronicles 2; but in between that time there has been the Torna - The Golden Country and XC:DE plus they have been helping with other development efforts within Nintendo.
Anyways, I am glad to see the game is getting some bugs squashed. The only odd bug I have ever encountered is that sometimes the Fusion Art box will have an Icon in it right at the start of a fresh battle (when it's usually empty). It doesn't affect gameplay in any way, just a visual oddity as if the game forgot to clear it out from the previous battle. Otherwise, the game has been solid.
I remember the VHS release had 2 versions - a PG-13 version that lacked any nudity and an R-rated version that only showed Chun-Li in the shower from a distance.
It wasn't until I saw a Japanese version in college where I saw the full Chin-Li shower scene.
I think the DVD version I have has both the censored and completely uncensored versions.
My body is ready! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this month, Bayonetta 3 in Ocotober! My Switch will finally get used again (hasn't really gotten use since Metroid Dread).
@Mgalens Interesting. I mean, the Switch is more powerful; but if the game was designed specifically around certain nuances of the Wii U hardware than I understand.
@Mgalens I liked Xenoblade Chronicles X, and there is definitely room for follow up as I kind of feel like the game left me with more questions than answers!
I don't see how the Switch hardware could be an issue for a re-release. You can play the game completely on the Wii U Gamepad, so single screen gameplay is entirely possible.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Fields, Ranked - The Best Grassy Plains In The Zelda Franchise
I could roam around Breath of the Wild's fields all day:
Grass swaying in the breeze.
Sprawling vistas.
Plucky minimalistic music
Soothing environmental sounds.
It's all so very peaceful in a land that is haunted by impending doom. Plus, it's full of environmental storytelling.
Re: Bandai Namco Apologises For Tales Of Symphonia Remastered Issues On Switch
@RupeeClock Yeah, it sucks.
Good thing Final Fantasy VII Remake was so good!
Re: Bandai Namco Apologises For Tales Of Symphonia Remastered Issues On Switch
@RupeeClock At least the PC version was superior to the PS1 version.
Other than One-Winged Angel, the music was actually a lot better than the PS1 version if you used the provided software Yamaha XG player.
I know what you are saying, though. "Quick and dirty" is the name of the game.
Re: Bandai Namco Apologises For Tales Of Symphonia Remastered Issues On Switch
It's a shame the superior Gamecube version is allegedly lost.
This is a case where it would be nice if there was a way to decompile the game disc into workable C++.
Re: Switch Online Missions & Rewards Could Be Getting Metroid Prime Remastered Icons
"so if you want to get your hands on a boxed version of the game, now's the time."
No, the time was during pre-order as it's sold out everywhere right now.
Hopefully things will die down after a couple of weeks and plenty of copies be available to buy.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 16.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
My Switch is so stable, I don't think I even need a stand to play it anymore.
Thanks Nintendo.
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Pre-Purchase Live On Nintendo Store (US)
@Tacolatte The would require deregistering my own Switch and making his Switch my primary.
It’s not like we live in the same household.
It’s all good; I can wait for a physical copy.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Pre-Purchase Live On Nintendo Store (US)
@Sambuc I was VERY tempted to just get digital, but I want to be able to share the game with my dad.
He likes Metroid games, but isn't very good at gaming (he had a very hard time with Metroid Dread and gave up).
He's also on a fixed income.
So I figured I'd buy physical and let him borrow it when I'm done rather than waste money on a game he may hate.
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Pre-Purchase Live On Nintendo Store (US)
$7.00 shipping?!
I think I'll just go to Target on release day and see if there are any copies in stock.
Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Console Has The Best First-Party Games Lineup?
@FishyS But I have "been there" for the rest to fully explain why I choose Gamecube over NES or SNES.
But, yes, I agree with you, that's why I am curious of people's ages just to see if it the choice is a "childhood memories" thing.
Plus, this poll is about best first-party output. Favorite console is a different answer.

@Greatluigi I thought the same thing.
Gameplay looks great.
I hate the new animation style for Mickey & company (even the cartoons look like that, now).
Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?
@dsparil I was lucky enough to get 2 summon signs by the bonfire. Those two ripped them to shreds like it was nothing.
Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?
Ornstein and Smough.
Never have I wanted to throw my controller through a wall more than fighting those two in Dark Souls Remastered on Switch.
I finally recruited help from other players just to carry on. They were by far the hardest boss of the game for me.
I did replay Dark Souls Remastered on Xbox One X and I beat the snot out of them (I am a muuuch better Soulsbourne player now).

@MrGawain Except that you...could?
If you played the game exclusively on the Wii U Gamepad, it acted like...any...other....JRPG - via button-based menu navigation.

Re: Random: Metroid Prime Devs Kept A GameCube In The Freezer To Run Patch Code
It's pretty crazy to think that, behind the scenes, gaming is pretty much duct tape, cardboard, and apparently freezers.
Also, this reminds me of that puzzle in Resident Evil where you had to take that stuff into a freeze room for a couple minutes.
Re: Poll: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Is Almost Here, So Have You Completed BOTW Yet?
@ModdedInkling Me. Age of Calamity was okay. Not exactly what I expected story-wise.
I only worked through the main story.
Musou games don't hold my interest enough to complete all the all the side content.
Re: Poll: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Is Almost Here, So Have You Completed BOTW Yet?
So I 100% the game EXCEPT for getting all the Seeds. I maxed out all the slots I could get but didn't go for my Poo reward.

Re: Nintendo Shares "Sneak Peek" At Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future DLC Waves
@Thoughts I guess the ending was just...bittersweet? Like...I get it, very cut and dry what would happen.
I just wanted to see "that moment" - not merely get a hint that "the moment" is going to happen.
It just...angered me more than anything. If that makes sense. I didn't hate the ending per se, but I felt like it lacked true closure.
I hate having to dance around spoilers lol.
Re: Nintendo Shares "Sneak Peek" At Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future DLC Waves
I will buy into it when I see what this scenario is.
I loved the game, but the ending left me...unsatisfied. Hoping this new story scenario ties everything together.

Re: Feature: The History Of Monolith Soft - From Baten Kaitos To Xenoblade And Zelda
@BulbasaurusRex "significantly more convenient"
Okay, but not a requirement.
One could say it would make the current XC games "significantly more convenient" to have the map and menu screen on a separate GamePad.
My point is that there was absolutely nothing in XCX that required dual screen play. It was all just a matter of convenience.
Re: Feature: The History Of Monolith Soft - From Baten Kaitos To Xenoblade And Zelda
"Xenoblade Chronicles X heavily utilised the Wii U's gamepad"
Except you could play the game entirely on the Wii U Gamepad as if you were playing on a single screen without compromise to gameplay.
