Re: Round Up: Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 - Every Switch 1 & 2 Announcement & Trailer

GamingFan4Lyf

Indiana Jones is an amazing game! Don’t let the first-person aspect deter you. It’s like the best Indiana Jones since The Last Crusade.

The only thing that may deter people is that it is primarily stealth-based - but it does leave some room for more action-focused players. The exploration, puzzles, and story-telling are simply top-notch.

I’ll be very interested to see how the Switch 2 version stacks up - especially since the game requires ray-tracing capabilities (though the implementation used in Id Tech is incredibly performant).

Re: Three Nintendo Ray Tracing & Rendering-Related Patents Published In Japan

GamingFan4Lyf

One part of me is excited about this - if Nintendo found a way to make RT and shadow maps more performant on lower-spec hardware, then that would be huge for Switch 2.

On the other hand, the fact Nintendo will hold the patent means it won’t translate to the industry as a whole - well, not without “bending the knee” first.

Real-time RT needs to be the standard in the future. Sure, it may not always look better than traditional rasterization, and it is quite expensive to run, but what it means for artists ability to simply create a scene without having to rely on “tricks” to light it is huge.

Plus, it allows for more dynamic environments as the lighting model “just works”.

Re: Feast Your Eyes On The Official Switch 2 Launch Trailer

GamingFan4Lyf

Happy Switch 2 Day everyone!

I hope those who have been able to get systems today are enjoying it!

Sadly, I have to wait.

Target hasn’t sent mine out and I have a feeling it won’t arrive until the end of the estimated delivery date (which is 6/11). First-world problems, right?

Re: Nightdive Studios' CEO Says That Game-Key Cards On Switch 2 Is "Disheartening"

GamingFan4Lyf

@Medic_alert That’s a fair point I didn’t consider.

I am a little concerned about Nintendo’s pricing strategy here. The $70 price is, unfortunately, the “norm” now - it sucks, but I understand it-ish…sorta…not really.

But that $80 for Mario Kart World is baffling - especially if Nintendo starts throwing in like $40 DLC somewhere down the…ahem…road. Not saying it will..but it would definitely make people question Nintendo’s new direction.

I am just happy I got the Bundle - even if I have to deal with the fact MKW is a Digital Copy.

I really hope the “old Nintendo” isn’t back, though. That lead to terrible times for a bit.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)

GamingFan4Lyf

I got mine preordered from Target using the app. It took about 15 minutes of re-clicking the "Complete Purchase" button before it went through, but I got it!

I also pre-ordered a Pro Controller 2 this morning before work (went much quicker since all the madness was over).

The system and controller are still showing in my Purchase History as Pre-ordered, so I assume it wasn't canceled.

Re: Switch 2 Launch Day Delivery "Not Guaranteed" From Nintendo In The US

GamingFan4Lyf

@dskatter I set an alarm for 11:55PM so I could get a little bit of sleep before attempting to pre-order. I think it took about 15 minutes before I could get through the Check-out process due to server load.

After I pre-ordered, I had too much of an excitement high to get back to sleep right away and probably tossed an turned for an hour before finally nodding off.

My alarm for work goes off at 5AM.

Worth it.

Re: Video: 20+ Things We Still Don't Know About Switch 2

GamingFan4Lyf

I wonder how Bayonetta 3 will run on Switch 2.

If I recall, it uses Dynamic Resolution scaling in order to maintain 60fps, but the resolution can get so low at times, the game starts to look like a bit of a mess.

It will be interesting to see if the resolution reaches the target more often as well as locks the framerate down.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

GamingFan4Lyf

@no_donatello I already knew of the anime thanks to being introduced to a fan translation showing at an anime convention.

So good!

There is a fan translation out there of the Japanese version (which uses Guts voice actor from the anime) that also apparently fixes some changes in some misinterpretations/changes to the story when being dubbed to English.

I haven’t played it enough to know what’s different. My guess is that it probably ties more to the manga as there was no official Berserk release in the US yet for people to get any of the references.

Don’t know if it’s available to be played on real hardware, but Flycast does the job!

Re: Zelda's Original Soundtrack Added To Nintendo Music, Here's Every Song Included

GamingFan4Lyf

What a great way to remind people that if you create a Japanese Nintendo Account, you can get access to the Japanese eShop to download the Japanese Nintendo Switch Online apps and play them with your regionally-appropriate NSO account!

It’s kind of a cool way to see these games in their “original” forms - and hear games that took advantage of the extra sound modulation of the FDS.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

GamingFan4Lyf

@Scollurio How can an FPS be more immersive with a trigger? You are either shooting or you're not!

Video games are supposed to make you feel powerful and heroic. The whole idea of having realistic trigger behavior can lead to an incredible amount of frustration in a video game standpoint - at least mainstream video games.

DOOM is fun! You are either shooting or you're not. You aren't attempting to get better by having your finger half on an analog trigger to try to shorten your firing ability. It's not about realism.

Shooting aliens doesn't need that realism - it needs rip and tear and feeling like a demon-destroying god!

Now if you were playing some kind of firing range simulator where you want real behavior of a gun - that makes more sense. But those are niche titles with niche audiences. The market is there, but incredibly small.

Nintendo tried analog controls once and decided it wasn't worth the effort. Does it suck for the niche audience who cares? Sure. But corporations don't care about the niche, they care about the masses and I am sure the masses couldn't care less.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

GamingFan4Lyf

@dePaige22 I played Descent once on PC and hated it.

Not a flight sim person (space or otherwise). Honestly, not a simulator (of an kind) person at all. The best simulator I ever played was Powerwash Simulator.

Platformers, adventures, beat-em-ups, survival horror, action RPGs, puzzle platformers, JRPGs, FPS, third-person action games, point and click, Metroidvanias - essentially the bulk of mainstream games since NES days never required analog triggers.

Even PS5 games where adaptive triggers are a thing are purely gimmicks to just pressing the button down (or holding down button for [X] amount of time to get desired result).

I can’t even think of one Xbox title that really needed it outside of Forza - despite having the capability.

I am sure there are some niche titles out there that do cool things with analog controls, but never were in my radar.

I am not against Analog Triggers, I just understand Nintendo’s stance here as to why they aren’t included - it’s a mostly ignored feature (even on consoles that have the ability to use it).

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

GamingFan4Lyf

@dePaige22 Been gaming for almost 40 years now with varying genres of games across all platforms. Outside of racing simulation, I never found a genre where a game was lacking because it didn’t have analog trigger capabilities.

Even the Gamecube era, I didn’t really “use” the Analog Triggers - almost always a full press with everything (well, unless fully clicking in the analog trigger did something different)

PS5 is the same. Honestly, if the Adaptive Triggers didn’t force me to use them due to resistance, I wouldn’t even notice.

Xbox games are always a full press, too.

🤷‍♂️

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

GamingFan4Lyf

The console price is fine - at the end of the day, it's only $50 more expensive than the original Switch at release.

What I am not a fan of is the game prices. I also worry that with Nintendo adding Gamecube to NSO + Expansion, the price is going to go up for that as well.

Now, I am planning to secure a MKW Bundle so I am only paying $50 for it instead of $80 - that is...whenever Nintendo does decide to start doing preorders in the United States.

Now, if Nintendo is charging $80 for MKW and does free content updates throughout the entire life of the game, then I think the inflated price makes a little more sense: pay more up front for all the added content rather than $60 - 70 and have paid DLC along the way.

But if Nintendo charges $80 and then still does paid DLC for MKW, I will be pretty disappointed in Nintendo.

That goes for just about any game Nintendo puts out and charged $80, really.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?

GamingFan4Lyf

With Gamecube games coming to Switch 2, I doubt we will see Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, or any form of Metroid Prime 2 Remastered.

I also wonder if Nintendo would put Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube service since the Switch version exits (though, a 60fps update would be nice).

Will Mario Sunshine get added since it exists in the Super Mario 3D All Stars Collection?

I am sure Nintendo would rather people pay the premium price for those rather than add them to the Gamecube library.

I guess we count a remaster of the original Luigi's Mansion out since it will be added to the Gamecube service.

Re: Nvidia: Switch 2 Has "10x The Graphics Performance Of The Nintendo Switch"

GamingFan4Lyf

As long as Nintendo continues to favor 60fps as a minimum for most of its games, the technology powering that is just icing on the cake.

Though the idea of playing Metroid Prime 4 at 120fps piques my interest or than 4K 60. Playing at the high fps feels really good! The input response is stellar.

Trust me, it’s night and day - I had no idea how much until I got a nice gaming PC back in August last year and played something like God of War at like 120+ fps versus 60fps on PS5.
