The '10 year deal to bring Call of Duty to Switch' seems a lot less impressive if they take 5 years to even release a game. Seems like it was a deal more for Microsoft's court case and Nintendo just agreed with it so Microsoft owed them a favour.
Dragon Quest 12 news Professor Layton news Xenoblade news or Zelda news is what I'd like to hear about, if we're predicting though, I expect to not hear about any of these.
"Free to start" is almost a pointless phrase until they actually announce what it means. With their recent Free to start mobile game Pokemon Friends it meant that you could only play 3 puzzles a day and you needed a $9.99 dlc to remove that restriction and there were two additional $14.99 dlc packs for more puzzles.
I could see a limited battle system with limited available pokemon for free, and then a purchase to unlock the ability to import pokemon etc. Hard to know, and will there be any way to 'catch' pokemon with just this game or just dlc purchases of pokemon, will have to wait and see.
Seems pretty wild that the majority of people who bought the Switch 2 version that didn't come with a game then also bought Mario Kart World separately and more expensively than if they'd bought the bundle version.
Some real desire to own this thing immediately I guess
If I had to make a (uneducated) guess I think if there's a direct it'll actually be a partner showcase. Don't think Nintendo has much more to come before Christmas other than Pokemon and Metroid. Then closer to Christmas we'll have a big direct with all the games coming early 2026 to help boost Christmas sales.
Not a big fan of this from game publishers, adding new story content to a game but making you have to buy a full priced game again to play it. No option to buy it as a DLC for people who bought the original release.
Such a shame that Microsoft is falling on such hard times that they've had to cut these jobs. I guess a $180 billion dollar profit for 2025 just isn't enough for the poor destitute shareholders.
Surely that beeping is actually a speaker? Doesn't really sound like a sound rumble could produce, could be very wrong though, if there were speakers in the Joycon they'd surely highlight it as a feature and have some in game use for them.
It's surprising that they can't even incorporate an ai chatbot into a game and not be able to restrict it's language and content to an appropriate age lavel.
It rather suggests that any game including ai chat should get the highest PEGI/ESRB rating until this can be guaranteed.
And thus the impossible task of keeping everyone happy with a remake begins:
Don't you dare make a modern 3d remake HD-2D is ugly The combat must stay the same no matter what Please update the combat and give us QOL features Don't eve think about changing a single bit of dialogue or costume The original translation was a bit naff, please update
This is the Hitman that's sort of "always online" isn't it?
I think you can play single player offline but you don't get progression unlocks, leaderboards and challenge modes if you're not online, and online and offline saves were incompatible with each other.
Don't know if they've changed any of that for the Switch version.
There are quite a few games listed as having problems, and these are only the ones the Nintendo have tested. And it doesn't just seem to be games that need access to Switch 1 only features like IR camera. Looks like only 2% of 15000 tested games have confirmed issues, though Nintendo themselves say the testing is not extensive.
Whether Nintendo can fix the problems or if it's up to the studios to make patches will be interesting, if it's the latter there may be quite a few games unplayable on Switch 2
I think these pictures really go to show that Nintendo needs some competition in the handheld world. Probably the best selling console ever and only the handheld PC's have attempted to challenge it.
I think the point is that you're getting comparatively a worse deal with the Switch 2 than you did with the original. Last generation the Switch released when the PS4 had been out for a while and it was less powerful than it and cheaper than it.
This time around the Switch 2 is releasing after the PS5 has been out for a while, it's less powerful than it but now the same price (this week a disk version PS5 including Astro Bot was £395, the same as the Switch 2 console only preorder)
It's not a surprising decision, there are so many original Switches around so they're obviously going to say they still will support the original. Will be interesting to see what actually gets released on it.
Also this is similar to what Sony said about the PS4 and there were plenty of vocal complaints from PS5 owners that Sony wasn't paying enough attention to the new more powerful console. Probably less of an issue here as Nintendo tend to release a lot of games, and Sony 1st party games were not as frequent in the PS5 era.
No one likes to see prices rise, and it's more impactful because the Switch was a massively profitable generation for Nintendo based on them having the cheapest console. Now Switch 2 is an equivalent price to base ps5 and xbox's and the games are higher than current industry standard prices.
That said game price rises may affect the readers of this website much more than an average consumer, most Switch owners are not buying lots new games a year, so a one off price increase for Mario Kart is less impactful than for us enthusiasts who might buy many games in a year. I still dislike it, Mario Kart would still make a huge profit at 60 dollars pricing never mind 80.
Some of the more mundane things are the highlights for me, an extra usb slot is very convenient, a headphone jack on the Pro controller - yes please, mouse mode seems fun.
Games-wise it's a really strong launch lineup - if you haven't already played these games on other system. Not a day one purchase for me, but happy for those who are hyped right now.
The Switch 2 in Japan is only going to cost $340 at current exchange rate, but it's region locked to Japan and only has Japanese language to stop everyone importing.
"Showcasing the hybrid in its three different play modes"
I've still yet to see anyone use the Switch in its 'kickstand' mode in real life, only in their adverts. Maybe others have much better eyesight than me but I've never found this of mode of any use!
I haven't read much in any reviews about the online content of Chronicles X, whether it's any good or if anything is locked behind it. And the new content looks like reviewers aren't allowed to talk about until after release either.
I'm pretty sure Troy Baker was the English VA of Olivier in the first game.
I guess Matthew Mercer has done all the Olivier performances in Cold Steel and beyond so it makes more sense.
Troy Baker's probably a lot more expensive!
"A Monolith Soft appearance feels like a dead cert"
I'd really like to think this but I'm not sure they'll have anything to show in April, I'd guess the next Monolith Soft game will be 2026 at the earliest. Hoping to be wrong though.
With backwards compatibility present on all modern consoles and the huge increase in digital games purchases you could say that any console "battles" have already been fought.
PS4 owners will tend to upgrade to a PS5 as that ecosystem is where their digital purchases are. Likewise many Switch owners when they are considering upgrading will get a Switch 2 so their games come with them.
I guess the question is whether they are allowed to announce anything relating to the Switch 2, I imagine not before April, so will probably be quite a low key Pokemon Presents, with maybe a tease of ZA but no more actual details till a Nintendo Direct
The main appeal of this collection for me was to have an updated and better version of Angel of Darkness. Maybe it was too bad a game that any amount of polishing couldn't save it, but I've always been interested to play but put off by it's terrible reputation.
I don't see why this wouldn't get a Western release, the original is already localised and has an English voice cast. Unless there's a huge amount of new content it doesn't seem like a costly endeavour.
We always say to expect the unexpected with Nintendo. Perhaps this time round they've decided they make so much money from eShop purchases that it's worth selling their hardware at a loss.
This however is wishful thinking! Switch 2 won't be cheaper than the current OLED, but hopefully won't be dramatically more. Crosses fingers.
I really enjoyed the first one, sad to see that there is still tiny text, it didn't make the first one impossible to play handheld, just weird that the developers thought it was in anyway acceptable.
But I guess that as I'm still going to buy it, even knowing it has these issues, maybe I'm part of the problem!
Obviously I agree with most people in this thread that we want to see more focus on console/PC games and less focus on mobile, but...
If you actually look at the figures in the link even though profits from mobile games are down compared to last year they are still more profitable than their traditional games. Hopefully the trends continue, but there's still big money in those gacha mines sadly.
Does them giving away a free 14 days of Switch Online suggest there is going to be online content for Xenoblade X that will require Switch Online membership, or is it often given away just with digital purchases?
Probably the big issue for Nintendo is that the Yen is weak at the moment. If the Switch was priced at $400 that would be around 60000 Yen. The Switch OLED costs around 40000 Yen in Japan. So if prices were equivalent that's a huge price increase for their domestic customers.
@Erigen These lists (I think) are auto generated from data from Amazon. Amazon may have given Pocket Bravery a placeholder release date and that's why it appears here.
It's unlikely but maybe we're looking at a potentially region locked Switch 2. The Yen is somewhat weak at the moment and Nintendo won't want the Switch 2 to be unaffordable to their domestic market if the prices match worldwide.
Blocking the Japanese eShop to foriegn payments may make it less likely people try to import a potentially cheaper Switch 2 from Japan if it can only accept Japanese payment methods.
I'll always choose physical when it's an option, it's generally the same price but often much cheaper. Plus factor in that you can sell the game on when you're finished.
Lending and swapping games was such a great part of my gaming when growing up to, will be very sad if the only physical option becomes an overpriced Limited Run release

Re: Trails In The Sky 1st Chapter Switch 2 Edition 'Upgrade Pack' Confirmed
Just as a silly aside, the graphic states that to use the Switch 2 upgrade pack you require Joy Con 2's.
Do you really? Old joy cons connected to a Switch 2, or one of the Pro controllers not good enough?
I assume it's legally written to ensure you don't buy it unless you have a Switch 2 and means to control it, but it's a little odd.
