Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?

BodkinDQ

Yep. Games being this expensive means I'm only going to be spending full price on my absolute favorite series, but otherwise I'm mainly going to wait for games to go on sale. I feel like I'm going to start playing rom hacks more or playing my older gen consoles cos with inflation, tariffs, etc things aren't economically well and my family has to come first. Just cos I can buy these things doesn't mean I should when we've got other priorities.

Ironically, I beat Fire Emblem Blazing Blade (again) the day Sacred Stones was announced for Switch.

So now I'm replaying Fire Emblem Sacred Stones for the millionth time, but this time Switch instead of GBA. Having a blast as per the usual. Already on chapter 14. I've refrained from grinding with the Tower of Valni, but I'm going to abuse it once I obtain Metis's Tome and go crazy with trainee Ewan. Done this before and he makes for an awesome summoner. Ah, good times~

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA) - The Series' Second Western Release Still Hits Hard

BodkinDQ

@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT Ironically Sacred Stones is. Probably the best place to start in general. Not only is it a heck of a lot of fun, but Seth is such a broken unit and you have free opportunities to grind unlike most FE. This game still has harder concepts like permadeth, but the previously mentioned things help alleviate that. Game has so many classic FE staples like the weapon triangle, supports, (some) class skills, branching promotions, and pretty much 99% of all key combat related things are in this game, which'll help you to learn mechanics of the series going forward. It's accessible without ever feeling convoluted information wise and if you use Seth and grinding opportunities the game is fairly simple. Once you get better you can ignore these and have moderate difficulty. Very fun game with an interesting story, beautiful attack animations, and fun combat/gameplay. Perfect game in my honest opinion and a personal fav. Once you beat it you should give Engage a whirl!

Also, as great as Blazing Blade (FE7) is, the tutorial doesn't cover everything and is a 10 chapter chore to get through. You're still best off with Sacred Stones on Switch. I feel the best place to start the series in general is Sacred Stones and/or Fates Birthright.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With A Classic Fire Emblem

BodkinDQ

Hype! This was one of my most wanted games for Switch online. Fire Emblem the Sacred Stones is one of my all time favorite games. It's a super fun classic I've beaten a million times on the GBA, but I've had to delete many files throughout the years cos 3 files are never enough. Now I can keep the ones I've got and preserve my copy. Just saying, this is one the best SRPGs.

Replaying Fire Emblem Blazing Blade taking on Hector's route. His route is definitely my favorite of the 3 lords and ngl, been feeling like a galaxy brain with a lotta plays I'm doing. Hector and Farina are my standout units. Very fun, classic experience. Oho!

Have some friends coming over today. Dunno what we'll play. Most likely Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Kart 8, or Smash Ultimate. Can't wait~

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (12th April)

BodkinDQ

Sometime last week I finally beat all of history mode, collected every Anna memento, and S ranked every mission in Fire Emblem Warriors for Switch. I've beaten the game 3 or 4 times at this point, but this is the first time I've took on the daunting history mode to completion. Must say, Elise in particular is a lot of fun. She has a guaranteed lethality build~

Don't really have a lot going on right now, so I'm playing a hack previously titled Fire Emblem Two Milkmen Go Comedy. So far it's fun!

Re: Poll: What Switch Game Could You Not Live Without?

BodkinDQ

For me Fire Emblem Engage. Not only did I genuinely enjoy my time with the game, but it revived my love for my favorite series (Three Houses is my least favorite FE. I don't like the whole monastery segments personally) and came at a time when I was in bereavement over the loss of my mother...

Engage offered the tightest strategic combat I've seen and was a joyride beginning to end for me. It's now my favorite game.

Runner ups: Dragon Quest XI S, Redemption Reapers, Pokemon Legends Arceus, and Pokemon Shield.

Re: Opinion: Legends Z-A's Xenoblade-Style Battles Are Pokémon's Most Exciting Evolution In Years

BodkinDQ

I would prefer they kept the CTB combat style for Legends games, cos at least it's still a version of traditional turn based. I don't think they'll change the mainline games being turn based, but I quite liked the battle system of Arceus and tbf, one of the reasons I like franchises like Dragon Quest and Pokemon is because they're some of the few series still doing traditional turn based. Everything is going real time these days it seems.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Introduces Thrilling Series First "Real Time" Battles

BodkinDQ

@FishyS My sentiments exactly. Legends Arceus is one of my favorite Pokemon games of all time. I had such a blast playing it. I rather enjoyed it's CTB combat system and I've always enjoyed turn based Pokemon battles. I'm not so sure about real time though... So many games are doing that these days and Pokemon was great for me cos it was one of the few franchises still doing traditional turn based.

I think I'm going to wait to see how things pan out, but I 100% feel what you're saying.

Re: Random: A Homebrew Port Of Balatro Is Now Available On Nintendo DS

BodkinDQ

My question is... why? Balatro is cheap. Not saying pro or against emulation, but some games are ludicrously expensive, hard to come by, or Japan etc exclusive. Those games I can see justification for, but a cheap game that you can play on your Switch, phone, etc why on earth would you want to emulate that and especially on non-modern gaming devices?

NB4 somebody tries to explain it, I don't really care. Seems silly.

Re: Community: What Are Your Favourite Sidequests On Switch?

BodkinDQ

Nino Kuni Wrath of the White Witch has by far my favorite side quests in general of any game. I oddly enough, ended up doing the side quests as I progressed through the game. The rewards were great adding extra spells to your arsenal and a plethora of equipment, healing items, money, etc etc. Most importantly the side quests were fulfilling; you were essentially going around restoring the strong emotional zing to people and helped retrieve back humanity to the broken hearted. Very fun and rewarding indeed.

I just beat Unicorn Overlord and man, that game went straight into my favorites list. Very unorthodox strategy battle system that ended up being a lot of fun. Very beautiful presentation and good story. Wasn't expecting the plot twist with Galerius and their identity at the end. Perfect game.

Kinda taking a small gaming break to be with family. UI kinda took hold of me there for a bit. 😅
