Re: Analyst Is Certain Nintendo Will Win Its Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer

BodkinDQ

@Solomon_Rambling Love the hilarious use of satire here.

There is truth to your comment though: this subject has been brought up and rehashed over and over with only slightly different titles and people in the comments just give the same echoed rebuttals over and over ad nauseam. I tire of this subject. Think I'm just going to start ignoring Palworld articles just lIke I do "Switch 2" articles, but at least this comment was a breath of fresh air.

Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

BodkinDQ

Palworld shined for a glorious 15 minutes of ginormous, unrivaled popularity, but has since fallen from grace into relative obscurity. Game was already failing by not having much of a player base anymore, but this will be the finishing blow. I can't say as I'm surprised about them being sued, or that I didn't see this coming, but still.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th September)

BodkinDQ

Finally got around to playing Octopath Traveler II which I ironically preordered before it came out. Have a really good friend who kept insisting numerous times I should start it, so what the heck.

So far I've beaten 4 chapter 1's and just obtained a full party. The combat and strategy are amazing just like in the original game, but I love the addition of latent powers this time around. The stories are entertaining thus far. Thronè was my first choice, cos I love stealing everything not nailed down~

Re: Gearbox Co-Founder Compares Company's Success Rate To The Beatles, And Fans Aren't Happy

BodkinDQ

@HeadPirate Okay, wow. Songs like "Helter Skelter" was obviously misinterpreted and controversial, but I stand by my original statement. I mean, a game like Pokemon S/V are extremely controversial and haven't went over well with a lot of their fans. Still sold like crazy. Same goes for the Beatles. I'm not going over objectively good or bad, I'm talking sales and commercialism. Even their lesser content shall we say, still managed to sell even if only because of their name being on it.

Again, I'm not a Beatles ride or die fan here. There are quite a few more bands/artists I prefer, but still to compare oneself to the Beatles seems kinda pretentious. I understand his sentiment, I do, but that's a high bar in commercialism/popularity. Agree to disagree~

Re: Gearbox Co-Founder Compares Company's Success Rate To The Beatles, And Fans Aren't Happy

BodkinDQ

Everything the Beatles did were hits, massive hits even. Even their more polarizing content was still a bigger hit than the average artists of their time.

I can think of some big gaming companies, but almost none would I say are in the realms of Beatles popularity or success. Just being objective here, cos while I do like and respect the Beatles, I have quite a few musical artists I like better. This was a hot take comparison for sure.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st August)

BodkinDQ

I kinda don't know what to play, tbh.

I just recently beat One Piece Odyssey and a Pokemon hack game on my phone, but I'm in that slump again. I'm waiting to start my new job that I got hired for, but construction got behind, so I can't afford a new game. All I know is I have a friend coming out today and we'll likely play Smash or maybe some Pokemon Sw/Sh.

Re: Soapbox: The Trauma Of Giygas & Growing Up In EarthBound

BodkinDQ

Still to this day Giygas remains one of my all time favorite final boss battles. The undertale to Earthbound is phenomenal and seeing things through a child's perspective of a totally messed up world was so well done. The story behind the final battle is creepy, but I absolutely love it and it makes sense given the atmosphere and storytelling of the game.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

BodkinDQ

Must be nice having parents that are still alive and buying this for you... Don't have the luxury of either in my case.

Regardless of price, it might be awhile before I can buy the new console, cos funds are low with both my wife's car and my own breaking down quite literally every week. In all fairness, if it was the same price as the Switch or just a little more expensive then that seems alright. $500 would make me brick myself, ugh.

Re: Pokémon Community And Voice Acting Industry Pays Respect To Rachael Lillis

BodkinDQ

Her voice is forever ingrained in my mind as she voiced a big part of my childhood. Jesse, Misty, Jigglypuff, and countless others- her voice was special. Team Rocket was always my favorite part of the anime with her voicing Jesse with that fantastic comedic delivery of her's and that villain facade with a heart of gold. Thanks for voicing my childhood. RIP Rachel Lillis.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd August)

BodkinDQ

One Piece Odyssey! Game is so much fun. So far gameplay wise it feels Dragon Quest esque and wasn't expecting a weapon triangle similar to Fire Emblem. With this game combining 2 of my favorite series I'm definitely a fan. Love the gameplay and I'm enjoying going through the new story as well as backtracking through the story from the anime itself.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th July)

BodkinDQ

I would've been playing One Piece Odyssey... I can't even afford to buy it right now cos both my wife's car and my car have broke down on us and I'm having to pay a crap ton of $$$$$$$$ to get those stupid things running. Man, I would've had One Piece day one and been playing it already. Life sucks.

In my spare time I beat Pokemon Fire Red Rocket Edition a second time. After one playthrough a few weeks ago, I craved more and went for a second, only this time I got an Umbreon early in the game and EV grinded and beat Red in the first (supposedly unwinnable) battle against him. The writer clearly didn't think I was supposed to win and it accused me of using cheat codes, which I didn't! 😅 Pretty funny dialogue, excellent experience gains, and really bolstered my money in a game where money is sparse. Gee, I wish I could find a Red irl and beat him up with my pets for money.

Important Edit: my wife saw I was down in the dumps and scaped together some tips she had and bought One Piece Odyssey for me!!! Ya know, I may have bad luck in general, but I think I spent all my good luck on getting the best woman ever. Worth it.

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Fire Emblem: Three Houses Or Engage?

BodkinDQ

@Greatluigi Absolutely! Sacred Stones was my first ever Fire Emblem and I became obsessed with the series instantly. I have about 4 titles in the series that I tend to enjoy and replay more than the others and Sacred Stones is one of em. I thought it had both great gameplay(play on hard for balance) and excellent classic gameplay. I appreciated the promotion system having branching paths and some classes having innate skills. People forget SS was the first one to do that in the West! Plus, Ephraim is easily one of the best lords of the series.

(Btw I love Alear's design too, but I may be biased as my choice of drink is Pepsi. 😆)

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Fire Emblem: Three Houses Or Engage?

BodkinDQ

Oh boy, this question will cause a lot toxic discourse...

I like Engage a lot more. Engage has refined strategic combat that actually makes you think and is ludicrously fun on top of that. (Brought back weapon triangle and innovative Emblem rings brought a lot of options to the table) Engage has better combat/gameplay, maps, graphics, and brighter color palettes. I prefer Engage's OST and the game has a few well written character standouts, notably Yunaka and Veyle.

As a long time fan that's been playing the series since GBA era (Sacred Stones baby!) 3H was extremely disappointing. Maps were meh, the combat/gameplay was dumbed down with no weapon triangle which has been a staple since Genealogy of the Holy War, (minus Echoes for being loyal to the OG game) and what really killed it for me was the dreadfully boring monastery segments. The game de-streamlined raising weapon lvls via battling in favor of teaching. I loathed the whole calendar system and downtime social sim, very Persona esque. Engage feels like a mix of classic and modern FE, 3H went Persona on us. The monastery segments felt like superfluous fluff that artificially added playtime to me... and skipping through it feels like it hurts your characters. I genuinely feel like people overrate the story and characters of 3H when they're just as trope-y as any other game in the series and the monastery segments grooming students was just weird. I feel if you want a good story in FE the Tellius games are the gold standard, at least in my book. I personally feel Engage has the best combat/gameplay of the series and Path of Radiance has the best story/lore.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready To Move On From The Switch?

BodkinDQ

@-wc- I relate so much to the start of your statement. I'm the only income for my family and $300+++ a pop for next machine gives me anxiety. I'm super easy to please, so I don't need high tier fps for the sake of it. Naturally I'm still very content with the Switch, but the idea of having to save so much money when I can barely keep our cars going is painful indeed.

Re: Talking Point: Could Ganondorf Ever Be The Star Of A Zelda Game?

BodkinDQ

Nintendo has a propensity to rarely, (if ever) have villains star in their games, especially their big IPs. If they do they likely had to partner up with the hero for the greater good. I get the idea that they're going for the higher ground morality wise and prefer to use good guys to bolster and preserve Nintendo's image. That aside, I think they should have Ganondorf star in his own game, but I sincerely doubt it'll happen based on what I've already mentioned.

Speaking of villains/playing as the antagonist, as a kid, I always wanted to play as Team Rocket in Pokemon ever since R/B/Y teased it. Only way to do as such is, er, illegitimate means, but it's a crying shame cos I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted that as an official game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th July)

BodkinDQ

Just recently beat the fan made Fire Emblem the Last Promise. Game was very innovative and quite impactful in the scene. Only real complaint is Shon should've been usable in the final battle given the significance of how it related to him. Game was fun. Enjoyed the old GBA FE strategy and game definitely had a lot of entertaining ideas, notably liked the 72 turn Conquest map.

Right now I'm playing Ender Lilies. What a beautiful, melancholy OST! Really adds to the depressive atmosphere and what's went on in the story. Gameplay is a fun, 2D action RPG platformer. Loving the encouraged back tracking for exploring to find equipment to get more powerful. The battles are a delight and the game stops holding your hand early on about it and I love that.

Re: Best Persona Games On Switch And Nintendo Systems

BodkinDQ

@Pineapple_Mohawk I relate to those points of hating a calendar system. I hate too much emphasis on social sim and I loathe not being able to do everything in a single run cos of time limitations. 3H became my least liked FE cos of those downtime monastery segments (and is the only FE that does the calendar system thankfully) and while I expect Persona to have these things, it takes a lot of careful planning and fatigues me greatly. Everything else is so good though that I'm willing to submit myself to the torture just to get to the combat, dungeons, and story, all of which are great.

Re: Talking Point: The Switch eShop Could Be Great With These Few Tweaks

BodkinDQ

I'd just like the junk to be completely omitted out of the eShop by quality checkers and more precise filters. Take filtering RPGs on sale for example. RPG is getting too vague these days as a catch all term, but those nauseating shovelware hentai games keep popping up... Like I'm looking for something similar to Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, etc, not action adventure games or shovelware like the blatant plagiarism that is Call of Honour Duty of Warfare.

That hentai stuff though is just embarrassing, cos I'm just peacefully browsing for my next lvl up dopamine rush and the wife sees there's a hentai game on my screen: "Oh... Uh, hey hon! Er, Final Fantasy X is on sale!" "Oh, you're about to be my X! Perv!" 🫣

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th July)

BodkinDQ

I'm still waiting for the new One Piece and Dragon Quest games to come out, so in the meantime I'm playing, er, fan games. Been really enjoying Fire Emblem the Last Promise. Figured I'd play it for it's historical importance to the scene, and it's easy to see why the game is still well received by fans, cos it had a lot of innovations at the time and is a lot of fun to play.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch Game Of The Year Of 2024 So Far?

BodkinDQ

Most of this year I've spent finishing my backlog. Honestly, the only game that's come out this year that I'd pick for GOTY is TTYD, which was a fun time indeed. Runner up probably being Balatro.

I suspect this'll change when One Piece Odyssey and Dragon Quest III 2D-HD comes out on Switch though. I'm eager to play those.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th June)

BodkinDQ

I just beat the fan made game Pokemon Fire Red Rocket Edition and just wow. I came to complete my childhood fantasy of being a Team Rocket member/stealing Pokemon, but I stayed for the story beats. The game really enriched the lore of the Kanto region's original story and added things that not only made perfect sense, but tied up loose ends. Also had fantastic easter eggs. Gameplay was as fantastic as gen 3 always was, but added theft and a morality system of sorts that rewarded you for being bad or good. Superb game.
