Re: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Tops Amazon's 'Best-Sellers' Chart As Pre-Orders Sell Out (US)

BodkinDQ

@Otoemetry I don't think they were meaning TTYD was the first Paper Mario. They were specifically talking about the style of Paper Mario that 64 and TTYD had, cos after TTYD the RPG elements are pretty much non existent. Think they were just meaning they wanted to go back to the template that 64 set and that TTYD continued with and specifically mentioned 64 being quite special to them.

As for me, I'm excited by TTYD's success. Genuinely hope the success means we get proper 64/TTYD style Paper Mario back myself.

Having an absolute blast playing Persona 4G! Just saved Rise and Teddie. Gotta say for those that like Balatro, the shuffle card game post
battles is extremely addicting. My Sarasvati is massively OP thanks to all the stat boosts, level ups, and skill upgrades I've gotten from it. I already have fun battling in this game, but that really incentives grinding for me!

Re: Review: The Legend Of Legacy HD Remastered (Switch) - A Decent Return For The 3DS Dungeon-Crawler

BodkinDQ

Alliance Alive is one of those hidden JRPG gems that was a glorious experience in every way. So much so that I beat it 3 times: 2 on 3DS, 1 on Switch. Yeah, it's good enough to double dip on.

AA is a spiritual successor to Legend of Legacy. AA took what was good about LoL, gave that a fine polish, and after fan criticisms of LoL, the developer actually listened and made changes accordingly. I love AA and greatly enjoyed all 3 playthroughs, but shelved LoL before even completing it once. I am thinking about playing it again, but I remember it being rough around the edges. Brilliant ideas that suffered in execution that got a glorious redemption arc in AA, which is a classic game to me.

I wholeheartedly suggest people play Alliance Alive, but Legend of Legacy is something I'll have to give a second chance before saying yay or nay.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want To See From The Next Super Mario Bros. Movie?

BodkinDQ

Honestly, I didn't like Peach in the first movie. There was major revisionism of her character from being a dainty damsel in distress to being extremely outgoing and heroic, which just made her seem too similar to Daisy in my eyes all for the sake of being woke. I like Peach just fine the way she was. Same applies to Daisy, who I definitely wouldn't mind being in the next movie. For the next movie let Peach be Peach and Daisy be Daisy...

...also bring back that bundle of joy that was that little nihilistic star. That thing was brilliant.

Finally playing Persona 4G.

Just like P5R, I really like the combat, dungeons, monsters, and story. Also like P5R, I find myself bored of the forced downtime. I expected this going into these games though, so that's why I get myself mentally prepared for it, cos otherwise these games are absolutely stunning.

Re: Soapbox: Help! I Can't Stop Playing Card Games On Switch

BodkinDQ

Very entertaining read. I've been very tempted to buy Balatro, cos cards/strategy are my thing and the genuine hype this game is getting is quite astonishing. Been trying to lessen my backlog and I've been putting more emphasis on my family life lately. Whilst I do have a decent sized backlog, I only have 3 heavy hitters left, so maybe I'll get Balatro on sale or when the focal points of my backlog dry up.

Re: Anniversary: Switch Turns Seven Today, With Over 11,000 Games On The eShop

BodkinDQ

Switch has become my favorite video game machine of all time. I bought it at launch, but I didn't really convert to the Switch til 2021, cos I'm a gamer that typically liked older machines better. Hell, I just recently fired up my GameCube again for example, but Switch ended up being a game changer for me. The astoundingly huge compendium of indelible RPGs in the Switch's library and hybrid function genuinely has me believing that I think I've found THE best gaming machine of all time that caters to me and my tastes/needs the most.

Happy birthday Switch.

Just beat Dark Deity in the wee hours of the morning. What a glorious little indie SRPG! Main team was Alden, Maren, Lincoln, Monroe, and Irving. Game tastefully wore it's Fire Emblem influences on its sleeves with gameplay and character designs being strikingly familiar, but doesn't just come across as a pale imitator. Has the rock, paper, scissors, but expanded, bonds,(support conversations) and major FE GBA battle animations going on. The classes in the game were a blast! Took the Necromancer line with Alden and he became and insane sustain tank with a propensity to proc some OP fire moves! A lot of the classes were well done and a lot of the maps were quite well designed. Fun game!

Next game in going to play is between Persona 4G or Final Fantasy III. Haven't decided yet, but those are the next games of high importance on my backlog.

I beat Fire Emblem Path of Radiance again and took on the trial maps as well. Tellius has such good story/lore and some fun skills to add to the already solid combat. Favorite moment in my playthrough was Soren vs Petrine. That unique dialogue followed by my Soren decimating her. Flare is so underrated, but came in handy as well as maxing support and dodge tanking. 10/10 game.

Now I'm currently playing Dark Deity which so far is a delightful indie SRPG. Really wears it's FE influence on its sleeves, but it's good in it's own right. I do quite like the opening theme. Very pretty, reminds me of my favorite song from any OST, "To Zanarkand" from FFX. Looking forward to the rest of the game if the first few chapters are anything to go by.

Re: Mother Creator On Third Game's Localisation: "Please Talk To Nintendo About That"

BodkinDQ

IF this plan actually works and we finally have Mother 3 localized, this will be a dream come true for me and many others!

Again, IF this plans works, then we need to do the same thing for Fire Emblem Binding Blade. Japan got it on Switch online, but again we were left with it untranslated and stuck in Japan. Really we need to do this for every Switch online game that Japan gets and we don't, tbh.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?

BodkinDQ

I'm really, really salty about Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance... I love the game and already beat it, but would rather have the added story as DLC. I hate the concept of later released definitive or complete editions for double dipping$. Feels like I'm being punished for being a day one buyer of SMT.

Demon Slayer is the only game I'm guaranteed to buy and maybe South Park Snow Day. Excited about Killer Instinct in Switch SNES library. Can check out Unicorn Overlord demo at least. I'd give a lot of previous Nintendo Directs 7 or higher, even a few 10 outta 10s, but my SMT salt is an oceans worth.

Overall 5/10.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Has Been Rated In Korea

BodkinDQ

@Cathalm This. I'd rather get a continuation or another story that coincides with the story of V rather than playing the same thing with added content.

I don't like how developers are making double dips a thing. Would rather have the definitive edition or whatever from the start.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 17th)

@Zaruboggan Finishing up chapter 13 right now, fighting ravens for treasure oddly enough! MVPs have been Soren and Titania and of course Ike. Been going for max bexp 90% of the time and taking advantage of 1-2 range and effective damage to beat turn limit bexp requirements. Been a fun challenge and I've been tactically dominating thus far.

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

BodkinDQ

Wow, I was worried I might actually go more than 15 seconds without hearing another false leak about a supposed Switch 2. With the equilibrium in my head balanced, balance itself has been restored to the world.

The Switch is great, we'll get a new device to spend $500 or whatever on soon enough. I'm enjoying the Switch a lot, so I'm apathetic about the time it takes to get a next gen Nintendo device and I couldn't afford it at the moment anyways, cos man them cars don't last like they used to.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 10th)

BodkinDQ

About to finish Knights of Grayfang today. It's alright, fun for what it is I suppose. I got it cos of the Fire Emblem lookalikes: Lise looks like Alear from Engage and Dark Knight=Black Knight from the Tellius games. Even has a few FE weapons in the game.

Speaking of Tellius, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is to be my next game, as I've been itching to replay the game again. It was going to be my currently played game, but in the process of moving a couple of years ago, I don't know which tote in my storage room or shed has my GameCube power chord, so I had to go on an adventure this week to buy a new one... Turned it on last night to a success though with the PoR screen greeting me! Looking forward to beating it again, easily my favorite GameCube game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 3rd)

BodkinDQ

I just beat Hogwarts Legacy a few days ago. I was very impressed with the game. I don't usually play games like that, but it definitely kept my attention. WB made the story play like a movie and I enjoyed bolstering my magic capabilities. I enjoyed slaughtering poachers and becoming fast friends with Poppy and the absolutely mental Sebastian. Oh, and I'm a proud Ravenclaw~

Hanging with the wife and friends for a few days before I turn the heat up in another game. I really, really wanna replay the GameCube classic Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, which will very likely be my next game, however my Switch backlog includes the following:

Dark Deity
Persona 4G
Knights of Grayfang
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
Paper Mario TTYD (when it releases)

That's in no particular order, but I did want to make a visible list. Quite proud of myself for having cut down the backlog significantly!

Re: Talking Point: Is Knowing A Game's Ending Really That Bad?

BodkinDQ

Yes, because it ruins the dynamics of the story beats and built tension.

I'm greatly enjoying Hogwarts Legacy right now and I love Sebastian Sallow's story, but unfortunately I had already saw some spoilers that would happen. While I still felt what happened, that first time feeling, in the heat of the moment is... intense. Really pulls at the heart strings. Story is all about tension and release. Knowing in advance softened the blow.
