I played this with a friend having never played the original.
When you finally get through all the cutscenes and actually play the game, it looks horrible and the gameplay is really unresponsive and repetitive. I cannot believe they're charging full price for this.
Hardware is driven by software, and 1st party drives Nintendo. Of course Switch sales have slowed - the only 1st party games of note this year have been Labo, Kirby and Aces, none of which are system sellers. Zelda, Mario and Splatoon are system sellers - and so is Smash, so that's when sales will pick up.

18 hours in. Spent 45 minutes grinding down a boss, using multiple Olives of Life and countless Healing Grapes. Then he wiped the entire team in a single blow.
Streaming games sucks. Every time I've tried it, always with a wired connection, it has sucked. Maybe it works okay in Korea, but in the UK... it sucks.
I'd be happy if they just skipped the N64 and jumped straight to GameCube. There just aren't enough quality titles on N64 which aren't lost in trademark hell.
Families can take advantage of the family subscription, and if it's just the child who plays then £1.70 a month isn't going to break any parent's bank. Can't see it being a barrier.
As long as a full team did the actual port. I feel that the ease of porting to Switch has created a culture of laziness, hence the performance issues in so many titles.
I thought BR was the "mode" and it just happened to be really popular. The base-building was the original concept, and the paid part of the game. Maybe I'm mistaken.
I have no problem with this. It will probably be a Christmas 2019 release, so let it dominate the next E3. There's no point in showing it now and making us go through 18 months of pain.
I've had my eye on this one since its announcement. Now I have two eyes on it! It looks like a lot of fun, although I hope the peripherals aren't mandatory.
I think this speaks to the way that Nintendo manages their announcements. Sony tends to announce early, whereas Nintendo usually focus on the upcoming months only.
Meanwhile, Microsoft go for the approach of not announcing anything.
I don't have a problem with the concept (although limited time is ridiculous), it's just that game streaming simply doesn't work for games that require quick reactions and precise control. Even Steam Link with a wired connection has noticeable millisecond lag.
I'm guessing that me and friends can't simply use the same family account on a bunch of different Switches..? That would be nice, although too obvious a loophole.
Those dismissing this as an Overwatch clone should bear in mind that it's already a massively successful game in its own right on Steam, with Very Positive reviews. Boycotting anything except Overwatch is like ignoring any MMO for being a WOW clone.
At that price, it's fine. With the family deal, it's amazing value. But in the meantime I really hope Nintendo update the Switch firmware with the ability to backup saves via USB. I don't care if they do it quietly, to attract more people to the online service. I just need a copy of all this data!
This won't be a popular sentiment, but I'm content with a subscription service to get access to legacy content. Ideally, we would have been able to transfer purchases from Wii U, but I'd rather a subscription than be expected to purchase the same games again.
I try not to care about achievements... but then I look at my Steam profile and it splashes up a completion percentage (bizarrely based on achievements) and it really makes me want to shift that number upwards.
@Bondi_Surfer I know right? If they bundled a load of arcade classics into a virtual cabinet I'd be all over it. But I can't justify piecemeal purchases for this stuff.
@Varkster I'm guessing the lack of an announcement is because the Switch port is being developed by a different studio and won't be released until a later date.

@Sunset758 Play the demo. It's the full game with a 3 hour time limit.
Re: Hands On: Starlink Scratches That Star Fox Itch, But We're Not Sure Who It's For
Hugely looking forward to this one, and I'm glad it's not like No Man's Sky.

I'd forgotten why I've never liked JRPGs.
Re: Video: Learn More About Octopath Traveler In This Detailed Overview Trailer
5 hours in, and this trailer has made me realise I've only scratched the surface...
Re: Ubisoft Says Reggie Fils-Aimé Is To Thank For Star Fox's Inclusion In Starlink: Battle For Atlas
This was one of my most anticipated games of the year before the Star Fox announcement.
Re: Hands On: Taking The Path Less Traveled In Octopath Traveler
If this game can sustain the quality of those first three hours it's going to be something special.
Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?
Well, that article was a bit of a maze.
Re: Review: Miles & Kilo (Switch eShop)
£2.59 on Steam currently, down from £5.79 full price. £7.19 on Switch.
Re: Super Mario Run Has Made Just Over $60 Million To Date
The disappointment of 60m profit is a good problem to have.
Re: New Nintendo Switch Bundle Includes 90 Day Free Trial Of Switch Online Service
@Equinox I don't think it's a concern. It's less than two quid a month, and kids can play on a family subscription.
Re: Rumour: Google Is Creating A Gaming Platform To Rival Switch, PS4 and Xbox

Re: Reggie Says Nintendo Switch Online Will Connect You To Legacy Content "In A Meaningful Way"
He really is a genius at speaking many words without giving away anything.
Re: US Research Analyst Believes Gaming Could Become 100% Digital By 2022
There's a lot of "certainly approximately" and "certainly a possibility" in this article.
I predict that digital sales will almost certainly increase in the coming years, unless they don't. There you go, I'm an analyst.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives Donkey Kong (Switch eShop)
I still pump money into the arcade version, so this buying this may actually SAVE me money.

Re: Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido Has Shockingly Poor Launch In Japan
The demo left me scratching my head. It seemed very limited yet also excessively manic. Without the demo I might have been fooled into buying it!

Give it three or four generations, and maybe.

@Yasume These are the playable ones on the booths, I believe. It's not the announcement roster.

If Mario + Rabbids sold over a million, I think this says more about the sales of Far Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed than anything.

Can't wait until Friday. I hope Nintendo can deliver on the day because I'm booked off work...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?
I bought God of War but I'm struggling to get into it, so I returned to Jydge on Switch. Simple pleasures!
Re: Japan Is More Excited About Nintendo Labo Than God Of War
I think there's probably room for both Labo and GoW. They literally couldn't be more different.

Re: Legend of Kay Anniversary Will Slash Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch In May
@Sakura7 It's £18 on Steam currently, so don't expect it to be under £20.
Re: Legend of Kay Anniversary Will Slash Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch In May
"thoroughly remastered" - that's a stretch!
It was always a deeply mediocre game and it surprises me that they keep wheeling it out every few years.
