Octopath Traveler is the only essential game for me there, and maybe Tennis if the reviews are good. Most of the others I already own or played before.
@roadrunner343 You're right, while Steam has a mountain of junk, it also has the tools in place which means I never actually see that stuff unless I look for it. Which I wouldn't.
Anyone who complains about the "shovelware" on Switch needs to look at the Wii U eshop. Holy Christ. The place is like a graveyard for... err, shovels.
I realise this article is actually an advert, but someone needs to mention that the game is gimped on Switch. Apparently it's an earlier version (117) than the current PC version (172), and it's severely lacking content.
@bluesdance I played a review copy, and it suffered from crippling slowdown. Maybe it's been patched since, but at the time it was unplayable at times.
@Scottwood101 I respectfully disagree. Slime-San was a fun time, but the art style was hideous and the technical issues on Switch make it difficult to recommend over this.
As an owner of a Steam Link with a wired connection, the idea of wireless streaming is a non-starter for me. Might be okay for turn-based games, but try playing something like Thumper.
@KoopaTheGamer I know, right? It's not like these devs would be porting AC Origins if they weren't making their own content. So what's wrong with more choice on the eshop? It's a highly regarded game which I might actually play now there's the option of console controls.
I agree with the VR part. Until it's a communal experience without bulky hardware it will be niche. But 4K is something that is becoming highly affordable. I recently bought a decent 4K TV with HDR support for £350 - that's less than my old 1080p Bravia cost a few years back.
@Bondi_Surfer Exclusives exist to sell hardware. They don't benefit the consumer, but at the end of the day it means we get to play awesome games on a cool device. So I'll live with it!
@BigKing And I can buy new games on PC considerably cheaper than PS4 (or any console) on release day, or any day thereafter, and they'll look and play better. But I can't take a PS4 or PC to work and play Doom in my lunch hour.
Clearly, Switch fulfills a different purpose, and I get plenty of bang for my buck.
@Anti-Matter Xbox has traditionally never done well in Japan, so I think it's more cultural than having anything to do with the console's relative merits. I doubt Microsoft even bother marketing it over there.
@EternalDragonX Monolith Soft have a great track record with these games, the gameplay videos look wonderful, and the preview above says it feels good... What's there to feel bad about?
I kind of mourn the loss of 'proper' console generations, because it was always fascinating to compare launch games to those released in the console's twilight, after devs had fully harnessed the hardware.
If Sony and Microsoft are going to iterate every couple of years then there really is no benefit over buying a gaming PC. The alternative is that they offer something unique (like the Switch).
@Heavyarms55 Micro-transactions in full-price single player games may destroy the industry, but in mobile games where you pay nothing up front, they're a legitimate payment model. Not one I personally indulge, but still logical.
@Anti-Matter Remember that SLIGEACH_EIRE is still flying the flag for the Wii U - so until the Switch hits the height of that runaway success story, they will not be happy with anything Nintendo does.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There is no way it's coming to Wii U (the first party support for that console is over), although I suspect we may be in for a Metroid Prime 4 Direct in 2018, which could include a 'surprise' release for Samus Returns to tide us over.

Re: Everspace Heads To The Stars (And Straight Onto Nintendo Switch)
Fancied this for a while, so if it's a quality port at a reasonable price, I'm in.
Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Will Get A Retail Release (But It'll Cost You $60)
I will definitely celebrate the release of the Switch port by playing through the Wii U version again!
Re: And Just Like That, Customer Reviews On The Nintendo Site Are No More
Given the state of user reviews on every single website in the world it's probably for the best.
Re: Guide: PAYDAY 2 Perk Decks - How Perk Decks Work And All Perks Listed
Is there a perk to make it the latest version of the game?
Re: Guide: How Does PAYDAY 2 On Switch Compare To Other Console Versions?
The devs' attitude to the console releases continues to be appalling, so they will not be getting my money.

Re: Guide: Bayonetta And Bayonetta 2 FAQ - All Of Your Questions Answered
For me, the FPS boost isn't worth updating to Switch, so I picked up Bayo 1 on Wii U for a tenner to complete the set.
Re: Review: Dragon Quest Builders (Switch)
I'm all over this. It must have been one of my most-played demos ever.
Re: Random: Leaked Photos From The Detective Pikachu Movie Tease Some Pokémon Policing
Not really a "leak", someone just stumbled upon some props...

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yet so much there, in 15 minutes.
Glass half empty/full.
Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - Thumper
@N8tiveT3ch I haven't noticed any lag with a Pro controller. Playing via Steam Link, however... that's impossible.
Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - Thumper
What a wonderful, unique game. It's a dizzying descent into hell, and yet as a video game it's strangely fair.
Brilliant.
Re: Review: Arcade Archives VS. Super Mario Bros. (Switch eShop)
@the8thark Interested to know what an "objectively" great game is... Reviews are, after all, inherently subjective.

Please just make it run well.
Re: Review: Mutant Mudds Collection (Switch eShop)
Sadly, in this Era of Xenoblade, there is no time for anything else.

Re: Guide: Breathe Easy, You Can Disable Character Voices in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
This is genuinely useful. I figured that Battle Narration referred to those voices, and it didn't seem to do anything... and now I know why. Thanks!
DON'T FORGET ME.

This game is amazing. That is all.
Re: Nintendo UK's Official Store Launches Amazing 'Mario Christmas' Competition
Nintendo just farmed all my email addresses, and I'm fine with that.
Re: Ubisoft Thinks The Next Console Cycle Isn't Far Away, So Where Does That Leave Switch?

Such a great game, and amazing to see it running on a portable device. Buy it!
Re: Intense Arcade Combat Sidescroller Obelus Opens Crowdfunding Drive
Hints of Walker, on the Amiga. Good.
Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?
Much as I enjoy hunting down Power Moons, I still love the taut, focused brilliance of Super Mario 3D World.
For 2D, I prefer SMB3 to SMW - although I'll take both, if that's okay. Of course, I'd take Yoshi's Island over all of the above.
Re: Nintendo Wants Everyone In Your House To Have Their Own Switch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Still banging that dead drum, eh?
If it means more local multiplayer then Nintendo can fleece us all they want.

Re: Rumour: Keymailer Lists Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for the Switch
@PlayedNSlayed Quite right, if in-game gambling becomes a thing in Nintendo games then that'll be a red line for me.
Re: Review: Tumblestone (Switch eShop)
This game is a hardcore puzzler. It's not the pick up and play party of Puyo Puyo Tetris. But for serious fans, it offers tons of content.
Re: Don't Knock Twice Is Bringing Supernatural Horror To Switch
Demo available on Steam (assuming there isn't one on Switch). Sounds like it might lose quite a bit outside of VR.
Re: The Nintendo Creators Program Now Rules Out Live Streaming on YouTube
I'm so glad I'm too old to care about this stuff; I'd imagine it would be quite annoying.

Factor in the cost of those 20 games on cart, plus one which doesn't even exist on cart...

Re: First Impressions: Hell in a Handbasket - DOOM on Nintendo Switch
Pity, I would have double-dipped if it were 60fps. At least I get to save some money over the upcoming months!
