Most of us aren't really the target audience. People who played Super Mario World, or Mario 64 or even Galaxy first time around aren't going to be the ones pushing the box office. Illumination make films for under 10s, and their interest will be the barometer of success. Whether the actual film is sh*t or not is almost beside the point.
Imagine if Nintendo had simply released all the NES and SNES games as individual, purchasable items on Switch - there'd by uproar from people complaining they have to buy the same games yet again. If Nintendo had thought ahead, they could have allowed people to carry their purchases over from Wii U, thus potentially increasing sales of that console and its legacy software prior to Switch's release. But we all know Switch was expedited due to the failure of the Wii U, so that was never going to happen. Instead they were forced to do the only thing they could do: put their legacy games into a subscription service. This was the fairest way they could bring that content to Switch owners (may of whom are ex-Wii U owners). The only disappointment has been the lack of releases - there should be two or three new games per month - but overall, £1.50 per month for a decent bunch of retro games (plus cloud saves, online play and Tetris 99) really isn't that bad.
This whole story saga just highlights how useless Metacritic user scores are. It also highlights how badly the eshop needs a carefully controlled rating system, like Steam.
Nintendo haven't directly challenged Sony and Microsoft in years, so why would they do so this year? The Switch isn't even 3 years old. It'll be 2021 at the earliest.
Some games are just about viable now, with a consistently excellent connection; but you try and play Thumper, even with a wired Steam Link... it's impossible.
@graysoncharles I don't see why a significantly cheaper service (or free with Amazon Prime) should offer the same as more expensive alternatives. It's simply how services work.
Why do Pokemon fans throw their toys out of the pram when the new game doesn't provide the "Ultimate" treatment, yet they seem fine with the fact that they've had to buy two versions of the same game for the last two decades?
That must be one helluva strong magnet, otherwise that little sucker is pinging off every ten seconds. And where does your other hand go? It already feels cumbersome without even touching it.
Such a poor demo. It looks hideous; plays terribly; and the Duke Nukem style growling from the protagonist is jarringly dated. I can't believe this is going to be a forty quid game.
@Snakesglowcaps Yes. The art style, in tandem with the low resolution, lack of AA and low framerate, meant it was not up to a standard I considered playable.
That's great and all, but I'll believe it when I see it. Evidently it wasn't something they fixed in time for the demo feedback trailer. The combination of muddy graphics and low FPS made the game basically unplayable for me.
I found the demo simply unplayable. Kind of hoping for stunning reviews which confirm the technical and design issues have been fixed, but let's face it - this game has a "Mixed" Metacritic score written all over it.
@JaxonH Hmm, I'll believe it when I see it with regard to the framerate. If they boosted the FPS then it seems strange that it wouldn't be a headline in this promo.
@Cathousemaster According to the Steam reviews there are bugs aplenty. I'm really intrigued by this game, but I'll wait and see if the dev releases a finished version!
Life of Pixel is a very simple but actually quite fun hardcore platformer, where you progress through different console aesthetics. It's cool, but hardly Mario.
My conspiracy theory is that they have the 'proper' Sonic design in place already and they dropped the recent trailer to drum up attention. Then they 'fix' the design (in record time) and the fans are supposedly overjoyed come November.
@GameOtaku I have Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the PC version of the collection. And the collection has 50% more games for a third of the price.
I'm not saying people shouldn't go for this if the emulation is especially good, I'm just suggesting that buying the much larger collection on PC plus two USB pads would still be cheaper than this piece of hardware.

Re: Konami's Cowboy Classic Sunset Riders Is Galloping To Switch Soon
@skrax They wouldn't make them if they didn't sell (to people like me) so your perspective is kind of redundant.

Re: Review: Darksiders Genesis - Thrillingly Visceral Action Tempered Slightly By Performance Woes
@Dirty0814 I shouldn't have to pay extra for a game for the luxury of portability. I paid for that feature when I bought the console.
Re: Review: Darksiders Genesis - Thrillingly Visceral Action Tempered Slightly By Performance Woes
So glad I didn't preorder this! £8 more than the Steam version and it can't maintain half the framerate.

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Library With Four More Games
The whining and entitlement in this comments section... makes me proud to be a Nintendo fan.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #27 - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
I swear some people just vote Japanese by default. It's a mess, like something I would knock up.

Re: Video: Comparing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Clone Genshin Impact To The Original
It's not really our problem if it's a blatant rip-off, it's Nintendo's. If it's a decent game, people will buy it.
It's not like we're going to stop buying Zelda games because there's a cheap waifu clone out there.
Re: 64 Games Are Currently Available For Less Than $1 On The Nintendo Switch eShop
It's the same with Steam. The difference is, the curation features on Steam are light years ahead of the eshop.
Re: Settle Down For Stories Untold, An '80s Throwback Thriller Coming To Switch Next Week
This is a great little horror collection, albeit brief. The first, text adventure story, is genuinely chilling.
Re: Alienware Reveals Switch-Like Device Capable Of Playing PC Games
@Friendly To be fair, if it's a mobile PC then it would offer far more games exclusively not on Switch than the other way around.

It's all about the spiral.

My test for game streaming will always be Thumper. Once that game is playable via stream, I'll know the tech is ready!

Hunky looking unit, and Hellblade 2 is enough to make me want it.

Aw, poor Starbreeze. Did the FIFTY-THREE separate DLC items not make you enough money on Steam?

Re: Darksiders Genesis On Switch Will Have "100%" The Same Content As The Other Versions
As always, test on Steam and if it's good, buy on Switch. Thank you Steam refunds!

Re: Contra: Rogue Corps Receives Another Free Update, Includes Switch Only Adjustments
@DenDen Try the demo. Or, better still, don't.
Re: Video: Here's What Alien: Isolation Looks Like On Nintendo Switch
My favourite production design in any game ever, combined with my least favourite type of gameplay. Such mixed feelings for this game.

Fine words; terrible game.
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Lite Is Out Today, Are You Getting One?
If I could seamlessly play my games across two devices I would be tempted, but it sounds like an account-locking nightmare, so I'll pass.

@Yosher Busier =/= better
Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

@DrDaisy I'm sure you'll be able to remap the controls.
Re: Daemon X Machina Trailer Shows Off "Major Improvements" From Demo Feedback
@JaxonH It just seems strange that they wouldn't include such an important improvement in this list. We'll see when the reviews are out I guess.

Re: Daemon X Machina Trailer Shows Off "Major Improvements" From Demo Feedback
It was the combination of unstable framerate and horribly muddy graphics that killed it for me, and I don't think they'll be fixed.
Re: Kamiko Has Now Sold More Than 250,000 Copies On The Switch eShop
@Dm9982 It's closer to Hyper Light Drifter. More of a stylised action game than an adventure. It was worth it at full price and a no-brainer on sale.
Re: Tetris 99 Will Soon Have A Tetris Battle Royale Rival
@BenAV Yeah, I'm trying to fathom how that would work and nothing is good.

Or... There are 50 games in the Mega Drive Classics collection for like fifteen quid, and you're not limited to the horrible Mega Drive controller.
