@rjejr I don't think a Zelda Direct is needed. It might be desirable for some, but I don't think Nintendo could do any more to hype the game. Maybe one last trailer?

I've owned a Wii U for 4 years and I still can't confidently navigate my way around Miiverse. It's a mostly friendly community, but a busy mess.

@Grawlog Without wishing to sound like a conspiracy theorist, Eurogamer do appear to have had the knives out for Nintendo ever since Friday's presentation. There's this piece; an article about Apple raising the prices in their store and irrelevantly focusing on a potential price increase for Mario Run (rather than, say, everything on the store); a preview of Splatoon 2 which starts from the position that it's not a real sequel, before describing the completely new and overhauled content; and it was they who broke the "story" about the fact that the Switch grip doesn't charge the j-cons, as if it were a fundamental flaw.

Switch is not beyond criticism, but the way Eurogamer has approached their coverage comes across as petty and starts from a negative place by default.

At least, that's my interpretation.

What the video fails to acknowledge is that every VC game is an emulation. The person who emulated the game translates the source code, but that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo owns the IP. Therefore it's their prerogative to do with it - and charge for it - as they wish.

The iPhone comparison is one I make also in this argument over cost. I know (generally younger) people who will spend a grand plus (when you consider the contract) to use a super powered iPhone for nothing more than YouTube and Snapchat. Whereas if you're a gamer who's going to spend hundreds of hours over 5-6 years playing a variety of games then somehow it's not good value? Makes no sense.

@Gauchorino A bit late in the day to set the stage for anything on Wii U, no? I mean, they're basically sweeping the stage at this point.

I'm assuming that extra base file size on Switch is what's unpacked to internal storage on Wii U?

Anyway, the install made a big difference in Xenoblade. I know some may not like it, but when it's open world, streaming everything from disc smoothly isn't really viable.

I preordered with Game a few weeks ago, and a couple of days ago they informed me I'm "at the front of the queue". It still doesn't sound like a done deal, but at least it's not a "no guarantee" disclaimer...

If the premium grip didn't exist, this wouldn't be a story. If anyone is gaming solidly for more than 20 hours then the price of a peripheral is the least of their problems. I don't know why this "news" is being presented so negatively by the gaming media.

@impurekind Definitely agree that OoT is the more important title historically, I just don't think the potential importance of a game is a selling point in itself.

@impurekind You're right, although in terms of "hype" (kind of intangible though it is) Breath of the Wild is at least the equal of Ocarina. Subjectively speaking, it feels that way, anyway.

Not sure if some people have short memories or just aren't old enough to remember the launches of the past... N64 was launched with two games, and that did okay. Paradoxically, Dreamcast had an amazing launch lineup and it didn't do so well. Point is, the launch is less important than ongoing development, and with both handheld and console divisions combined, this is a pretty awesome list to get us started.

The happy sunshine part of me imagines that they are holding back for a Direct dedicated entirely to Virtual Console. This would make sense, given that VC literally wasn't even mentioned at the presentation. In that Direct - who knows - they may say that purchases carry over.

But the cynic in me reckons we'll simply get a discount on our existing games.

Either way, they are surely going to announce that games are locked to the account rather than the console hereon.

I've played Redout on PC and it's very good, although I personally prefer Fast Racing Neo. I would prefer a new F-Zero even more!

This is no different to the 3rd party support for Wii U: a handful of ports of middling franchises. And rather than spending ages on lengthy skits and redundant demonstrations, why not show us footage reels of all these games? Why completely ignore MK8 Deluxe? Such a poor presentation - 10 minutes of excitement, followed by 50 minutes of micro-disappointments.

Great game, and I'm glad owners of other platforms are finally able to play it. One of the funniest games I've ever played.

@shinobi87 Exactly what I'm hoping for too. I would rather a master than a jack-of-all. Not sure that will translate into huge sales though.

I've been saving for "NX" for so long now that I am prepared to buy everything Nintendo has to offer on day one!

The store's grand reopening was the highlight of my visit to NY last year. The waiting in line for 4 hours in freezing temperatures was not.

To think that the Nintendo Seal of Quality once rescued the gaming industry.

@GiooiG I took this route as well. The store guy was adamant it would secure a day one unit and I could choose a bundle nearer release. Still, we're talking about Game, so who knows.

Quality control is something that concerns me generally in gaming. I know it's a different environment, but lest we forget it was a flooded market without such control that played a major part in the crash of 1983. Ironically, it was arguably Nintendo's Seal of Quality that rescued gaming back then...

@ollyander Every six months?? I bought my gaming PC four years ago and I've never upgraded and it still easily matches the PS4 Pro.

The notion that PC gaming is more expensive really isn't accurate, for reasons too numerous to list here.

This is why [Nintendo console] + PC = the best combination for the complete gamer. Nintendo for the exclusives and the local multiplayer; PC for the best of all things AAA and (free) online gaming.

@BigKing The Switch isn't directly competing with the PS4, to be fair. As someone who wants a powerful handheld and a console that plays Nintendo exclusives, Sony's console isn't going to help me whatever the price!

Preordered my Switch yesterday and I was assured that this meant a day one unit. If Nintendo fails once again in this regard then we are so OVER. I can't go through the whole NES Mini debacle again.

A bafflingly misguided movie, although I thought Hoskins was great as Mario.

I'm glad people are actually citing copyright law. And even if those laws didn't exist and it were simply a case of Nintendo being heavy-handed and bullying, the fact is that developers know Nintendo are highly defensive, so they cannot be surprised when their spin/rip-offs are forcefully objected to.

I'm sure if those unforseen difficulties were on PS4 they'd find a way! TBH it's fair enough because Wii U is effectively dead now Switch has been revealed. And lest we forget, backing something on KS is not the same as a preorder.

Anyone get the feeling that the Switch may be going the way of Wii U? A neat concept whose appeal is difficult to convey to the mainstream; a USP based on innovation rather than processing power; and third party support limited to certain IPs long after their release on other systems...

Sorry, Nintendo - we lost interest about a week ago!

Nintendo really dropped the ball this sales season. They have a 240k units of a dead console need to shift, and the only handheld where you can play proper Pokémon, and they let the big boys deliver all the bargains. Madness.

I'm starting to see why it's called a "Premium" pack. I guess there must be some kind of business logic to Nintendo's approach, but I've yet to work it out.

I guess Nintendo are waiting until 2017 to sell off their stock of Wii U because they are not going to sell at these prices when you can get a PS4 or Xbone with a couple of games for under £200.

Predictably disappointing, especially when you consider the sales we're seeing on other platforms. Other platforms which will actually get my money.

It's time for Monolith to get the broad recognition they deserve. What they did with XCX on Wii U was nothing short of a miracle.

I wouldn't bother. I had my NES Classic preordered with Gameseek as soon as preorders opened and they unceremoniously cancelled it in my behalf yesterday. Ultimately Nintendo's fault, but still, it's no guarantee.

It really depends on the "specific details", then. It's those details which will convert the intent into actual purchases.

I just want a quality experience. If that means waiting until June, so be it.

I got an email from Gameseek yesterday informing me that my months-old preorder had been cancelled because they couldn't guarantee stock in the foreseeable future. The disappointment was crushing, and it has seriously affected my view of Nintendo, to the point where I'm wondering if it's worth preordering a Switch or waiting a year or two.

The whole debacle has brought out the worst of the company, and in turn the worst of humanity (on eBay), and the only people to have benefited are scalpers.

Sounds like it could be fun. And a launch title too, which is always welcome.
