Spyro: Reignited Trilogy - the much-rumoured and obsessively campaigned for remaster of the original Spyro The Dragon games - was finally announced yesterday. However, the lack of Nintendo Switch left a lot of people (Team Nintendo Life, included) feeling a tad left out. Well, a listing that appeared on Nintendo's official UK store mere hours afterward (before being removed) suggests a Switch port is coming, it's just not been officially announced yet.
The listing, which we've screenshotted for you below, also shows a price of £39.99. This is a tad steep compared to the £30 you buy pre-order Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for on Amazon, but then again Crash has been out on other consoles since 2017 so a reduction in price makes sense. Could the full price nature of this Spyro listing suggest we're getting the game near to its September release date on other platforms? We certainly hope so...
Regardless, a listing on Nintendo's own storefront is hard to ignore, so now it's a matter of waiting for the official announcement. Come on Activision, invite us Nintendo fans to Spyro's 'Welcome Home' party...
Are you excited for a potential Spyro: Reignited Trilogy? Or is all the hype a bit silly considering it's a remaster of some old PS1 games? Share your thoughts below...

Can’t believe the hype for crash and Spyro to come to a Nintendo system
Was the only game back on PSone I thought could hold a candle to Mario 64. Crash was poor compared to Spyro 1 & 2.
Oops. Nintendo UK, you spoiled the surprise..!
This is going to be great on switch! Let's hope they don't take too long to make it.
Btw, I knew this not long after the official announcement of the game...
Was there any doubt?
nice to see this coming to Switch. Now for an official announcement of Diablo III coming to Switch and i am really happy.
What's the point of not announcing one version of the game? Spyro coming to the Switch may be cool but it ain't a system seller. I can't imagine anybody paying Activision to withhold information about it as it's not even a timed exclusive for any system.
What dumb reason could there be? Unless this listing is a joke or a mistake, as most unannounced listings are.
Great. Here's hoping we get a case not unlike South Park Switch, except that I hope Spyro comes sooner.
OH YES! I hope this isn't a mistake!
A full custom description and everything.
Seems pretty legit, but of course they have to take the listing down if Activision says the Switch version isn't announced yet.
I do believe Activision has this idea that announcing a game for Nintedo platforms at the same time as the "big boy" platforms will make some user segments respond less positive to the product overall. And there may be something about it.
Although twee, the PS1 games were hugely playable. Day one purchase for me.
@Varkster there have been games listed on the official Nintendo store that weren’t ever going to be released by mistake?? Or a joke??
On a third party site I can believe both but I don’t remember Nintendo ever having anything like that
@Varkster The answer is Nintendo. They like full control of their information and they aren't always super logical about it.
Still no info about a PC version, which is odd. Crash is coming to Steam after all. Not that I'm planning to buy either.
Now for all those sour grapes types in the previous comment section...
@sandman89 only if you don't count the numerous games that have appeared in previous systems.
Hope this is no mistake. Though seems legit enough to me. But seeing as Crash is coming to the switch, I had no doubt Spyro would too.
That screenshot was posted by some random user on Twitter, could easily be photoshopped. The fact they've got the title of the game wrong suggests it is. Might not be, could well have been listed in error by Nintendo and that random Twitter user grabbed a genuine screenshot but I wouldn't take this as any evidence the game is coming.
@OorWullie I shop with that store all the time. I checked on their site and it was there! It's only a matter of time.
@SmaggTheSmug You have a point, it is likely Nintendo's doing. Maybe they're trying to gather as many games for a more effective E3 presentation as from what I see Nintendo fans and the press are never satisfied with what they get.
Perhaps even for a Direct before E3, where I'm hoping they unveil Fire Emblem because at the current moment it's my most anticipated game on the system next to Pokemon and Metroid.
Why wait to reveal the Switch version if it is happening? I just don't understand Nintendo at all.
I already bought the Crash N-Sane Trilogy on PS4, so I'll probably buy the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on PS4 as well. Besides, I bought the PS4 at the beginning of the year, and the Switch near the end of it, and my PS4 library is pretty small by comparison.
I do hope Totaku will make a figure of Spyro, so I can display it right next to Crash.
@GrailUK Good to know. Yep it's only a matter of time then.
@Varkster
Nintendo being odd. Probably want to announce it in a Direct/at E3 with an Amiibo or two.
My wife enjoyed them back on the ps1 so hopefully this turns out to be accurate
I basically skipped the 5th gen of consoles so never played Spyro, Crash or any of these (played my cousin’s N64 though).
I had a PS1 at same time as the N64, and I never bothered with Spyro, Crash, or Croc (of sh&£) lol @SilverFoxMcCloud , 3D platforms of this era had big issues with Camera View Point (I guess Crash does not apply here it is 2.5D), these games just didn’t hold a Candle to SM64.
It will be interesting to know how much these games improve with dual anologue controls
I'm calling this out as a fake. Just compared the screenshot to the actual store and the font looks different. Close, but no cigar.
@Shellcore According to multiple sources, hundreds of people and even some NL users, this has been on the Nintendo UK site for a short time as a real thing.
@Shellcore Actually I can vouch for this. I pre-ordered the game successfully on the store. They took down the store listing but the pre-order still remains
Huh. Are the original Spyro games any good? I have never played or seen any of them. Time to check out YouTube, I suppose.
Lol is NintendoLife allowed to make a news post about this now?
Can’t talk about Sega Genesis, or Atari, or PC Engine, or Spyro games. . .or ports. . .or Indy platformers with pixel art. . . nothing the light of Miyamoto doesn’t touch lol!
@Grandpa_Pixel A release must be a dead-cert then I guess. Nintendo saving the announcement for a rainy day.
@Megal0maniac Until Grandpa Pixel personally vouched for it, I would have taken the other sources with a pinch of salt. The same hoax would have been reported in other places and people like to lie in general.
@Shellcore
Looking forward to seeing you tell all the people who actually saw it that they imagined it or are lying. 😜
The Spyro games still stand up today in terms of gameplay and also the camera still works great compared to other 3d platformers of the day. In my eyes they have aged better than Crash has.
@electrolite77 Looking forward to you actually reading my comments. Typical Electrolite ; )
@sandman89 I mean both Crash and Spyro got GBA releases, so this isn't exactly a precedent.
@Megal0maniac Can confirm, I took a screenie myself.
@Anti-Matter It's coming to Xbox One on the same day as PS4...
If this is real and Nintendo are holding back the announcement so they can announce it themselves during a Direct, it really speaks volumes about their lack of 3rd support that they'll do anything to have another game to announce.
@OorWullie I screenshot the website myself on my phone, it's not fake.
Just like with Crash, it's something that I might buy if it does come to the Switch but I'm really not fussed either way. I don't feel any real desire to play remakes of my old PS1 games.
I remember when Nintendo put March 2018 up for Zelda by accident. And companies don't put games up by accident if there is no hope of it coming. Here's hoping Shenmue 3 will get a date on switch by accident lol.
@Sakura7 Year Of The Dragon was superb!
Bet they're holding off a bit because it'll launch on Switch months after xbox and ps4.
@TDS_Computer If you have a PS3, PSP or PSX you can get the trilogy or just whatever one of the games for a good price since its one of the most common games.
Man the music in the Spyro games is so thrilling and is one of the best parts of the experience that Stewart Copeland produced.
If you all need evidence you could pre-order it. Here are my screenshots of my pre-order (with personal details removed)
Email Confirmation: https://imgur.com/rQ8ShSv
Pre-Order still on the Nintendo Store as of this post: https://imgur.com/l4QzYv0
@Shellcore - Just so I can prove my vouching
Yes. I need more 3d platformers, and getting a chance to play Spyro again on my switch would be very welcome.
Definite buy if this is correct.
@Grandpa_Pixel I feel an article update coming on!
@Anti-Matter
It wasn't Sony exclusive to begin with.
Nintendo’s official store is run by Zavvi (or their parent company) this detracts from the legitimacy of this listing, albeit only a little bit. Also, the official store usually only posts listings for preordered games a month or two before the official release date. If the Switch version is even further in the future than September they wouldn’t posted the listing until July or August at the earliest.
@ottospooky Actually ARMS, Splatoon etc were pre-orderable in January despite being June/July releases.
They've done it a few times now.
okay, this game did not start development before Switch launched. I am not giving them that excuse here - and I will not wait for a Switch port that launches at full price months after the other versions have been out
Poosible reasons for a delayed announcement -
amiibo - Spyro has already existed in Skylanders, but still, amiibo
SSB - I really don't see how Spyro could work in Smash, but I really don't see how Duck Hunt Dog could work in Smash either
Skins - play as Yoshi. He doesn't have horns, but Yoshi has the proper build, so he could work, so maybe they want to announce it when next we get some news about the new Yoshi game which I know we all assume will be out in 2018 and shown at E3. Maybe Spyro in the Yoshi game as a playable character? Like the dream palace characters in Kirby.
Those are just off the top of my head, and it's early, but Nintendo Logic means any reason is a valid reason.
I preferred Spyro to Crash back in the day, so this is good news!
Well I'd definitely buy if it came to Switch. Have only played the first Spyro game but really enjoyed it. Think I prefer it to Crash but not to Super Mario 64 of course.
@sandman89 I think it’s more of a symbolic thing, than anything else. The big franchises of competitors are slowly succumbing to Nintendo.
Here I am, hoping and hoping, knowing my hopes could be very well crushed.
Told y'all it's coming, now it's time to just wait for Crash until they announce this.
I really hope it does come to Switch.
Soooo...
When will there be a remastered trilogy of Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Mario Odyssey?????
@Shellcore
I know, it took me that long to post I didn't see some of the comments. I thought about deleting it but went 'no, that's the cowards way out, take the inevitable mocking like a man'
@electrolite77 Spyro for Smash?
@menchi187, considering games that come out weekly, Nintendo is not lacking from third parties at all.
Yay. Spyro is cool again!
Well by the time i finish crash ill be ready for spyro.
Someone contacted Nintendo customer service, and they straight up confirmed Spyro for Switch, with an unknown release date.
@electrolite77 Haha, fair play.
@Varkster nintendo has been known to want announcements done during directs and e3 so there is a chance that they want it hidden so they can reveal it.
@TDS_Computer i can vouch for it being good.
@Shellcore No, actually for the small portion the listing was up, I actually saw it on the offical UK website.
I went ahead and hit the pre-order while it was still up, why the hell not, right?
The automated email came through confirming it and as expected there wad an email through today saying
"We are contacting you regarding your order ####### which was placed yesterday on the 5th April for Spyro: Reignited Trilogy.
We regret to inform you that the item is not available for sale. As such we have cancelled your pre-order request."
The next paragraph I wasn't expecting though
"As a thank you for being a loyal Nintendo Customer and for the inconvenience caused we would like to offer you a good will gesture of £5 to spend on the Nintendo Official UK Store."
£5 to spend for nothing? I won't say no to that 🤗
@edgedino I guess it's OK for NintendoLife to post about this now. Haha as I said I THOUGHT it was the official UK website.
@westman98 Where did you read this?
I hope this does hit the Switch.
I'm basically replaying my teenage years in HD. If Banjo makes it (oh how I wish that would be possible) then I don't think I'd buy any original content.
I definitely feel there is a vacuum in the market for late 90s/ early 2000s-style playformers...
@Nanaki and next you will relive puberty in hd
Perhaps they're holding back the Switch announcement to announce it on a Direct or E3 with a Switch feature.....like maybe a Spyro amiibo?
Not that you would believe me haha, but I for one did see this listing
@Varkster I'm guessing the lack of an announcement is because the Switch port is being developed by a different studio and won't be released until a later date.
ok wait a moment, i have a better suggestion why nintendo wants to hold the announcement back. what if we get in the next direct one of those smash announcements with the new challenger being spyro and then the games being announced? How epic would that be?
@edgedino
Cue obvious pr0n joke.
@Nanaki
That genre has been killed by the oversaturation of M-rated titles, much like here in Italy reality shows have taken over variety shows' place. Thank goodness people are realizing once again that platformers sell.
@Varkster
That would make sense, wouldn't it?
@SilverFoxMcCloud Mind your language!
@Angelic_Lapras_King Yeah a few people seem to think that. It seems like a reasonable assumption since that also happened for Dark Souls Remastered.
Most likely they need more time to get the Switch version ready.
@D33K0 Same thing with myself, preordered immediately and got a £5 credit instead, but hey, thats contribution to a new amiibo!
This would make the older gamer in me so happy.
All these great games coming for Switch and all the great support for the system has me really excited for Nintendo. I truly hope all their future systems are hybrid like Switch. We’ve been spoiled, going back to being tethered to the TV would suck. I don’t play my other consoles nearly as often now that I have been playing my Switch.
@Drussa I would buy both, day one. The Diablo 3 was unofficially leaked to Eurogamer by a "source" that game was actually in development. Although it's likely that after the internet blew up over the nightlight tweet that Blizzard saw how interested the public was and decided to greenlight it's production. Still an official announcement would be great.
As far as Spyro, I would say it's guaranteed. With Crash, Sony had an exclusivity agreement of a year before other consoles like Xbox One and Switch could get it. This time around Xbox One and PS4 have already been confirmed to be getting it the same date, so unless additional time in development is needed for Switch I would say they are likely planning on releasing it the same day. The Switch has already proven it's worth to most developers at this point.
Nostalgia is a strong factor for me. For anyone else I am not sure I can recommend this game.. it was way too easy
@sandman89 You do realize Crash and Spyro have been on Nintendo platforms since the GameCube/GBA days, right?
@BlueBlur101 yes
I hope this is true
