THQ Nordic has announced that Legend of Kay Anniversary will arrive on Nintendo Switch on 29th May.
Since the game's initial release on PS2, Legend of Kay has seen a port appear on Nintendo DS, and a remastered 'Anniversary' version on Wii U and various other platforms, so we weren't too surprised to hear that it was headed to Switch when the news broke a couple of months ago.
The game is a thoroughly remastered version of the original including high-resolution textures, new, more detailed character models, modern rendering techniques and "crystal-clear surround sound". You'll also spot various nods to old martial arts films and pop culture quotes as you play.
Features:
25 different levels with over 15 enemy types and epic boss battles.
3 different primary weapons (sword/hammer/claws) with distinct combat styles.
Various mini-games such as wild boar racing, dragon flying and wolf riding.
Online rankings: compare your score with your friends’ and compete against the best in the world.
The game will join a pretty competitive roster of releases during May including Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and Dark Souls: Remastered to name a few.
Will you be keeping an eye out for Legend of Kay Anniversary?

Way too much coming out in May. Is the viability of Switch software sales going to die after May or something?
Luckily got this one on Wii U way back when. Was alright.
No thanks, doesn’t look good at all.
Don’t buy this it’s bad
Forgot to get the wiiu version. I'll pick this up when it hits the bargain bin.
''Remastered''... still looks like a Wii game...
I bought it for Wii-U. It was OK. Probably won't get it again. But it's one of those cases where someone who has never played it before may want to give it a try.
Looks horrible ! And that frame rate omg
I seen my brother play it on a playstation console. I don't remember which one. It looked ok but I don't know. Maybe when I am bored I might get it.
Picked it up on Wii U eShop for $5. Haven't been able to play it yet, and it's sitting in my backlog.
I bought the physical and digital version on Wii u (the digital version was like 5 bucks or something). It's honestly a very terrible game (imo).
@XenoShaun Agreed. Hyrule Warriors Switch (triple-dippin', baby!), Mega Man Legacy Collections, and Street Fighter 30th...man, it's May Day for my wallet...
I haven't played Kay myself, though.
Would rather have De Blob 2.
It's a good little game. Played the PS2 original, and saw the Wii U version being played.
@CrimSkies97 The first one is in coming soon lists on retail stores. I really enjoyed 2 moreso than the first so hope we get the second also (assuming it hasn't been confirmed already).
@StephenYap3 Very much so. I have Dark Souls and Runner3 on the agenda too that month. Those are just the ones off the top of my head, am sure there are more of interest that was confirmed for May. I'm glad Ys VIII at least was confirmed for end of June and not early June, wallet has time to recover some.
Just waiting on De Blob 1 and 2...
Nope. Got this one on Wii U and... yeah, it’s like the most generic PS2 game ever. I don’t recommend it unless it’s ridiculously cheap... and even then, there’s so many more fulfilling way to fill time, like banging your head on a brick wall or listening to dubstep.
Perhaps that was harsh... this game IS incredibly bland though.
"The game will join... Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and Dark Souls: Remastered..."
So another battle of the rehashed games in May on Switch. Ill stick with battlechasers (and only $25)
Ys8 is the light at the end of the tunnel.
I got it free on PS+...it's so 'meh' I could scream...or sigh very loudly.
My Wii U asks, "Is nothing sacred?!?!?"
I'm still waiting for Tak.
Might be alright for a kid, or a diehard fan... but I got on sale digitally on Wii U, and then for free on PS4. It wasn’t bad, but its no must have. I haven’t ever cared to beat it. I’ll pass.
Nordic released Darksiders dirt cheap on the Wii U. If they release this for say £15 it's worth a punt. Got the Wii U version and it's cool. Characters are actually pretty chilled. Not sure why it gets so much hate. I played this and DK around the same time. When I got frustrated with DK this was a nice leisurely alternative. If released at the right price, which I think it will, then it's kinda fun.
Again on Nintendo Switch ?
Thank you THQ Nordic for a game, but this is not the one we want from you. At least give us Destroy all Humans or something else from your other PS2 library...
lol naw I'm good.
I tired it on the WiiU. It was okay. I wouldn't recommend it, however.
Got it on Wii U and never finished it, like a poor mans Zelda,
This is the longest anniversary ever. Like those obnoxious people who celebrate their birth month instead of their birthday.
Unfortunately I won't be getting this one. It looks decidingly average to me.
"thoroughly remastered" - that's a stretch!
It was always a deeply mediocre game and it surprises me that they keep wheeling it out every few years.
@Sakura7 It's £18 on Steam currently, so don't expect it to be under £20.
The Wii U losing another great exclusive lol
Thus didn't sell well on the Wii u such an odd one to bring over!
o'Kay
Its no Mario of course, but its not bad for a game from the PS2 era.
@bluedogrulez Lol, how so? It was already a port of an old game on Wii U. And apparently it's not exactly a killer app.
@SmaggTheSmug: Exactly. If a game like this is coming to the Switch, then it seems like they will all be ported. A Wii U collection will be of no significance...better and portable versions of its titles will be on the Switch. #backedthewronghorse.
@bluedogrulez What I meant is that the game was already a port on the Wii U and it has been ported to multiple different systems, including PC and 3DS. Hardly a loss for Wii U or anything to point at as "a Wii U game".
