Hype levels building...
Ugh, just announce it already, GameFreak!
"about how to pre-order and about other exciting new Nintendo products, services, promotions and events that might be of interest"
That doesn't sound too exciting, in my opinion...
Register and you will get a drawing of pikachu, yeahh... Oh wait google has millions of them.. Mmmm
But I already get emails from Nintendo getting all kinds of info, just yestwrday they thanked me for buying Labo and reminding me to register it for gold coins, and my kids get monthly Pokémon emails. So this seems kind of redundant and unnecessary.
Plus I have NL to keep me informed. ☺
It's the UK store
I mean, I'll hear about anything revealed regardless, but....Registers email
This is making me think that a late 2018 release is still very much planned, though I do wish they'd take a bit of a break this year. XD
This all bodes well for Pokemon making an appearance at E3. This year is going to be VERY interesting.
@Tyranexx well I guess it depends oh whether this Switch game is a new gen or the rumored Kanto remake (or a Diamond/Pearl remake). If you look at a list of mainline games, a new gen has been released every 3-4 years since the start (its been roughly 2 since S&M) so if they release one this year it’ll be the shortest time ever. It could be plausible it’s the rumored remakes though, in which case it’d be best they release them now as they don’t wanna release them the same year as gen 8.
i hope it doesnt take up half of their E3
I'm sure the Internet will tell us soon enough anyways.
You already got me to sign up for the official Pokemon site, Nintendo. Don't see a need to sign up again.
They say "and other new Nintendo products". Isn't it just the same as subscribing to their regular newsletter? The way it's phrased makes me think it's not just a Pokémon thing.
@ShadJV I think they've released a new Pokemon game every year. In the few years it wasn't a main game, a remake or a "third version", then it was a Mystery Dungeon.
2002 is the only year I count no western release.
1998: Red/Blue 1999: Yellow 2000: Gold/Silver 2001: Crystal 2003: Ruby/Sapphire 2004: FRLG 2005: Emerald 2006: PMD 2007: Diamond/Pearl 2008: probably PMD Darkness, Time and/or Sky 2009: Platinum 2010: HGSS 2011: BW 2012: BW2 2013: XY and PMD: Gates to Infinity 2014: ORAS 2015: Super MD 2016: Sun/Moon 2017: Ultra Sun/Moon
"...official US Nintendo Store page." links to the UK site
🙄
Man, I hope I'm not the only one who wishes this is a Pokemon Pinball Remake.
@KingMike which is why I specified mainline games.
Why on earth did you put up a picture of Ash? We don't need to see a failure in these type of articles.
@Dog I’d rather see the pic of Gary with his 10 badges
I`m guessing a yellow/blue remake. Well, give me full reign about which gym I challenge first, make them actually difficult battles, like getting a gym badge means something, and I`ll be a happy camper. No need to change how battling works.
@thiz #GDPR
Sneaky way of getting folk to sign up to their mailing list.
I've been pretty convinced for a while now that Pokemon Switch is a 2018 title. I can't wait. Especially if the recent rumors of a reboot are true.
No need. I’ll keep checking Nintendo Life for the newest info.
I signed up out of loyalty lol. Not that I don't check for news everyday anyways
I'd like to sign up, but I live in the US...
Yes!!
Well this fails the GDPR test. The consent is for Pokemon Switch news, but they will send unrelated emails too. Consent can't be bundled since yesterday.
Wow I don't have a switch... (don't need it)
@ShadJV: Fair enough, if these are indeed the rumored remakes. I'd almost prefer that at this point; I'd rather Gen VIII come in with more of a bang and have a little more time and effort put into it.
who signs up for this in 2018, fake news spreads like wildfire, what do you think official news will be like?
@Tyranexx I mean I don’t particularly think a remake is necessarily more likely, after all they did make it clear a different team worked on USUM so the main team was working on a game for at least a couple years (and SM seem to use the same engine as XY so they may not even have had their full team on gen VI and it was possibly just a filler gen) but looking at the timeline it WOULD be early for a new gen so... guess we wait and see? Personally I’d enjoy a remake if I could see Kanto (and maybe Johto) in 3D, I don’t care if we already had those regions remade once, and heck maybe they’d throw a few new evolutions our way or something, break the pattern. Then a new region next year. But ultimately if they’re fun games I’m happy, honestly the past couple gens have disappointed me in the post game, I just want stuff like the Battle Frontier back, ya know?
@ShadJV: Wait and see is about all we can do right now. I like to speculate, but the problem is the rumors are flying more and more, and I'm taking nearly everything with a load of salt. I wouldn't mind getting a 3D iteration of Kanto despite the fact that I still own working copies of Blue, Yellow, and LeafGreen. XD
Likewise, I'll be happy if they're fun and a slight change of pace. Gen VI was a disappointment for me (it wasn't horrible, but it's cumulatively my least favorite generation). I enjoyed Sun despite recognizing some of its flaws (the extreme railroading in the beginning and the lack of a meaningful post-game were my two main sticking points), but I have yet to play either of the Ultra games.
But yeah, ditto on the wish of wanting a more decent post-game. I don't think I've really enjoyed the post-game content since Gen V.
I think I’ll be okay if I settle for Nintendo Life!
The article says US but the link is for UK.
Register my email even though NoA already sends me emails. Really looking forward to finally getting some concrete information on Pokemon Switch. I’m probably in the minority, but I hope the Kanto remake rumors turn out to be true. I’m old so Red/Blue nostalgia is strong with me.
@Tyranexx complete agreement. Gens 4 and 5 had great post games and so 6 and 7 felt disappointing comparatively (I raced through X expecting to have a bunch to do afterwards... ended up not with much). I didn’t outright hate any of the games, I like the size of Kalos, I like Alolan forms, I liked the changes in USUM (aside from still lacking too much postgame)... but it felt like it climaxed with gen 5 (which disappoints me because the one thing I didn’t like about gen 5 was the new Pokémon, the rest was fantastic IMO). So... whether it’s a remake or a new gen, I just want a larger experience, some good postgame, stuff like that. Hopefully we have some announcement by E3 though, rumors start to tire me.
Choo Choo goes the hype train
@ShadJV: VI had some redeeming qualities, particularly ORAS since I felt that they fixed many (but not all) of the issues I had with the originals; I just wished that they had included an actual Battle Frontier. Y's narrative was kind of all over the place, but I did appreciate the dark undertones of the plot near the climax, and Kalos is definitely a beautiful region that I feel wasn't allowed to reach its full potential.
I'm also in complete agreement about Gen V's Pokemon. While there are definitely some designs out of the group that I like, these are overshadowed by the ones that I feel range from kinda meh to just plain bad. I feel like the oversaturation of new Pokemon for the region diluted the result.
I 100% agree about the rumors, I'll likely just start ignoring the Pokemon RPG for Switch thread on the forums until we finally get some concrete news.
@ShadJV I understand there are a lot of D&P fans, but I don't think they'd make their first home console mainline game based on them. It just doesn't make sense to. They're either going to to a soft/hard reboot with in Kanto or a new region entirely.
They roped in a lot of older players who haven't touched a mainline pokemon game in awhile, so a Kanto remake is probably their best bet.
I personally don't care, as long as they improve on the mechanics and flesh out the world more than the 3DS allowed them to. You can tell they were struggling against the hardware in Sun/Moon.
@Tyranexx yeah, XY’s story wasn’t bad and I appreciate it being a bit dark though ultimately I feel BW was suitably dark and did it better - Ghetsis was pretty dang evil but still fairly believable, while I had trouble suspending my disbelief for Lysandre. As I said, I didn’t outright dislike any of the recent games, they just have felt a bit shallower since they transitioned to 3DS. Hopefully that was just growing pains and they just needed a more powerful console?
@Regpuppy and I agree, hence why I added Diamond and Pearl in the parentheses. Though to be fair, ORAS caught me off guard, I didn’t initially think we’d get a 3D Hoenn before a 3D Kanto. Yet when I suggested they do another Kanto remake only in 3D, most fans responded, “But we already got a Kanto remake”, like every gen can only be remade once. Not that I want them remade every 5 years but 3D is a suitable reason to revisit old regions and at this point FireRed and LeafGreen are older than Diamond and Pearl, so...
"US Nintendo store"
COUGH
@ShadJV I think the Hoenn remake was mostly about filling gaps in the 3ds roster. You could pretty much get everything from Kanto in one of the games available.
But, if they're doing a reboot of the series, this is the perfect time and place for it. New hardware, a lot of older gamers coming back into the fold, and Pokemon Go stirring up some new ones.
That aside, I wouldn't want to be Nintendo right now. Pokemon fans are foaming at the mouth for official info about now. Lol
While I suspect that like most pokemon games this one won't be a massive overhaul. I'd love to see them decide to do a hard reboot of the series and instead redo each region as DLC, or psuedo DLC, IE you continue on as the same trainer, in each game and after you become league champion in each region you can then get all your Pokemon from previous regions. With the start of each game you'd get some BS mention about "imports of out of region pokemon being blocked at customs" or something, and then after you've beaten the game and raised up new strong pokemon from that region you'd be able to bring in your favourites from the last region.
They could do it so that if you've bought the carts they all just pull from your existing save data on console and you have to swap when you switch regions. Or if you own all the games digitally, you just have to go to an area in game that'll dump you into the next game dynamically. If they recreated all 7 regions in a new modern looking/feeling engine (something that looked closer in quality to BotW or XBC2) they could let you roam from route to route and find pokemon. They could even overhaul the battle system so it was less "politely exchange blows" and more your trainer calls out attack types to switch to based on button presses, but your pokemon attacks and dodges dynamically.
Gotta rebuild that post-GDPR marketing list somehow...
Signed up. I'm really hoping they are going for great graphics and real gyms again. They can shuffle up the story as much as they like. Let there be a giant grass-type legendary, and make it massive.
This has to mean a late 2018 release!
My guess is that the so called leaked picture is real, the one where the character is riding a lapras, only that the picture is really low res. I hope it is true cause I want the pokemon games to keep the camera view we have today and not be first person 4k res crap. I think with all things in motion it will look amazing and going away from the random encounters to actually seeing the pokemon out in the field will be freakin awesome! And not to mention that if they keep it like that then it will be way easier to add to the game through dlc. No matter how the game end up there will always be haters and they can't please us all. We will have to wait and see
@ShadJV: Yeah, Lysandre and Team Flare as a whole weren't written all that well. I didn't feel like the motives there were explored very well. AZ and Floette provided some of the better plot points, IMO, and what can happen with misguided intentions.
I have high hopes for the next batch of games so far, but I'm also trying to keep said hopes in check. Hopefully the Switch gives TPC/Game Freak the wiggle room they need for some improvements.
Is there an equivalent for the North American folks?
@Tyranexx AZ was never explored enough, he was interesting but like... it felt like they started a story with him and didn’t get past the intro. I feel like they were gonna have a Z version that focuses on that more and then just decided to skip to gen 7.
@Regpuppy eh, I doubt Nintendo cares too much as they don’t have much control over the games, that’s on TPC. And everything TPC releases generates more than enough money. I’ve never felt they particularly care about meeting fan’s expectations, they just do what they want. Though I doubt anything could satisfy fans at this point, whatever they release won’t be enough and people feel too strongly about what they want at this point, no matter what they release it’ll disappoint some people. Like some people want the gameplay itself to change heavily and some people want it to remain fairly untouched.
@ShadJV Don't have much control? They own a majority of the Pokemon IP along with controlling stakes in the other two companies involved (Gamefreak & Creatures Inc) I assure you, if Nintendo asked, Gamefreak would be obligated to listen, and since the Switch is such a big deal for Nintendo right now. It is in Nintendo's interest for one of their biggest exclusive gaming ips to do well on the Switch.
Also, TPC is just a subsidiary made, and owned, by the ip owners for the purpose of handling licensing and promotion of the Pokemon IP. They don't actually have any ownership of the IP itself. They also have nothing to do with the main series of games. That's on Game Freak and Creatures Inc. Spin-offs are also usually handled by other second or third party companies, just licensed by TPC.
I'm not liking the link the article gives to the "US" store. Every other link I've seen on the site is a direct link. No idea where that link is forwarding to. My phone browser did not like it though.
@ShadJV: Agreed. There's an off-chance that if TPC/Game Freak had made Pokemon Z, I think some things with Gen VI might have been resolved a lot better. At least in my point of view, anyway. It felt a bit weird to incorporate Zygarde into Gen VII.
