Very low price, eShop deals, and unlimited access to a selection of games. I'm down with that. I don't use voice chat so that part doesn't interest me, but it's worth it for the rest.
I got my birthday discount voucher today. Without wishing to 'look a gift horse in the mouth'... it's useless. They basically offer discounts on a bunch of first party games that everyone owns already because there's NOTHING ELSE ON THE SYSTEM.
Thankfully Nintendo were good enough to offer discounts on the VC, so The New Challengers was only £3.50. None of the additions in Ultra interest me, TBH.
As a gamer, this sounds great. All games are basically cheaper on PC by default. However, I doubt it sounds too good to Nintendo's ears; their third party support on Switch is almost entirely the indie sector, and most of these games come out (and run better) on PC, so it would do precisely zero to encourage sales of indie software on Switch. On the other hand, the reduction in software sales could be tempered by a potential increase in hardware sales: the Switch would essentially be a Windows gaming handheld, which is a very enticing selling point.
They did deliver on exactly what they promised... with all the drawbacks that come with resurrecting a style of gameplay which hasn't really existed in the mainstream in 15+ years.
I've personally forgiven Nintendo. They messed up, but I can fully understand why they would want to focus resources on 3DS and Switch. What I can never forgive is the attitude of scalpers.
The game is browser-based, so of course you need internet access to play. It's the simplest and most hassle-free way they could have designed it: you don't sync your phone with the system, you sync with the game 'room'. It's how it is on every platform.
@FTL It's been out like a week and there is already footage of the patch working. I'm not excusing the comments, I'm just saying they're the idiotic words of one person, for which the team has apologised and made amends, and all the talk of boycotting the devs is disproportionate.
I also dislike the modern trend of 'fixing in post' but it's no different to any number of developers, even Nintendo with BotW.
I'm just going to throw in a slightly contrary perspective here. I bought the game on day one and thoroughly enjoyed it. Its unique gameplay hook gripped me in a way that, say, Hotline Miami never did. There was some stuttering toward the end when things got hectic, but nothing to ruin the experience.
Then I found out about the comments the developer made. The individual was a douche in that instance, for sure. But to be fair, the team followed it up with a swift apology and got a patch together fast. And it's the effort they make to atone for the comments that really matters in the long run, not the stupid comments themselves.
Fun game, but those freezes were a female dog. Definitely freezing more than stuttering, sometimes for a good second at a time. For a game that's all about nanosecond choices, it's quite the irritation.
Some of these comments make me laugh. People were saying EXACTLY the same stuff about Splatoon before its release: too cartoony; too simple; too shallow; not enough content; too kiddy; "it's for non-gamers" (a personal favourite)...
"those that only have a Switch will have to look on as major releases arrive in their shiniest form elsewhere"
But let's not forget that those shinier platforms are missing out on the major releases only available on Nintendo. It's really down to which games, and which way to play, suit the consumer best.
My original left con was experiencing issues. Nintendo Support was very good, and I will be returning the con tomorrow. Thankfully I also bought a second pair of perfectly functional cons, so my weekend will not be ruined!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Of course, it's pretty meaningless, although at least Nintendo are acknowledging the problem of stock shortages. Now they just need to shift them.
@Superzone13 Yes, I bought the Wii U version after falling in love with the Switch version. I get the feeling that the Wii U iteration will be very rare in the future, because Nintendo are pushing the Switch so hard.
The 10 hours factor isn't a problem if they are 10 great hours. Paying more at a later date is an issue, however. We shouldn't have to pay extra for the flexibility of portability - that is a privilege we paid for when we bought the console.
It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo handles this one. They will need to replace the faulty hardware in the minority of cases where it's occurring. But presumably they will have to insist that customers send back both cons, to avoid crafty people claiming free extra controllers...
@Sakisa Same! I picked up the console at the midnight launch but Zelda was delivered later in the day. So I had a good few hours to play a download title. So glad I picked this.
Not quite as intuitive as the original, but once you get used to it, it's just as good a game.
For me, I knew BotW was something special when I was trying to describe it to friends. It's actually really hard to put into words because, beyond the amazing gameplay and aesthetic beauty, it's the way the game makes you feel. Every encounter is special, and the sense of freedom and discovery is genuine. I haven't had that feeling since vanilla World of Warcraft. I truly believe it will be an all-time classic.

Re: Sony Thinks You'll Buy A PlayStation 4 Alongside Your Nintendo Switch
Gaming PC + Nintendo (of whatever variety) is the real dream team.
Re: Poll: Did the ARMS Global Testpunch Land a Knockout Blow?
It all depends on the single player campaign for me.
Re: Deals: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For June And July
These prices, man. I can get Cave Story+ (6 year old update of a 13 yo freeware game!), Afterbirth and Sonic Mania for under £45 combined on PC.

Re: Video: Can You "Button Mash" Your Way to Victory in ARMS?
It's a well produced game, but it didn't even hold my interest for the hour slot, so I can't see it being a day one purchase.
Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online
We beg for new games on the system and then when some art is released for a new game we tear it apart before we know anything. Nice.
Re: Preview: Ultra Street Fighter II On Switch Offers Nostalgia In Spades, But New Features Disappoint

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Enjoys Second Week At The Top Of The UK Charts
This is quite surprising, given the userbase of Switch in comparison to PS4 and Xbone. I think it says more about Prey than MK8, though.
Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?
@Danpal65 You'd think so, wouldn't you? Sadly not. It appears to be a known issue with certain TVs. And I ain't buying a new TV!
Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?
Mine keeps changing the source signal if it's plugged into the TV, so until Nintendo patches the issue, my Switch is a purely handheld device.
Wii U works great as a hybrid, though!
Re: My Nintendo Beefs Up With Street Fighter Discounts in North America and Europe
Awesome! I can save the money I would have spent on the Switch version and finally spend some of those gold points.

Re: Nintendo Reveals A New ARMS Character, And It's An Odd One
This video, even without context, basically encapsulates why I love Nintendo.
Re: Review: The Jackbox Party Pack 3 (Switch eShop)
@MadAdam81 Exactly, it's not like this is a twitch shooter; it requires minimal bandwidth.

@MansakeLabs Thanks, this is the news I've been waiting for!
Re: Video: Here's Exactly What's New And Different In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
As someone with no interest in Battle Mode, I'll stick with Wii U. And I still have Double Dash for dual weapons!

Thoroughly dessserved! Great game.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Composer Confirms Soundtrack Is Practically Complete
@Dakt Wow, if XCX was streamlined, I dread to imagine how complex XC1 was!
Re: Lego City Undercover Still Has Ridiculous Load Times on Switch
Definitely double-dipping because it's a great game. But on PC, not Switch.
Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install
Thank goodness for that. Pitchforks sheathed.
Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install
I will double dip... but on PC. It's available for £15 and I have an HDD bigger than a shrew on that.

But why tell Nintendo to stick it?
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Last Nintendo Switch Game Standing in UK Top 10
@DESS-M-8 You said Zelda is the only game worth buying. I'm simply clarifying that it's (arguably) the only retail game worth buying currently.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Last Nintendo Switch Game Standing in UK Top 10
@DESS-M-8 Only retail game, arguably.
Re: Nintendo Is Doubling Production of Switch Units
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Of course, it's pretty meaningless, although at least Nintendo are acknowledging the problem of stock shortages. Now they just need to shift them.
Re: Nintendo Is Doubling Production of Switch Units
Without reading through the comments I'm going to take a wild guess that SLIGEACH_EIRE is painting this news in an entirely negative light.
Re: Nintendo Is Doubling Production of Switch Units
Seems logical. The hype for the NES Mini flatlined when it became apparent that it wasn't actually possible to purchase one.
Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Includes Six NES Classics, But It's Skipping Nintendo Systems
I guess not all developers share our sentimental attachment to the original system. Brutal.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Uses Dynamic Resolution Scaling To Maintain Performance
It's the fact that Nintendo managed this vast and varied world in under 14gb that amazes me.
Re: Nintendo Switch Owners Will Have To Wait Longer And Pay More For RiME

@SLIGEACH_EIRE One day you'll go and spoil it all by actually posting something positive in these comments. One day.
Re: Review: Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (Switch eShop)
@Spiders I played the entire thing with the split d-pad on the joy con and it was fine. It must have been fine, because it's a tough little game!

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch vs. Wii U
@Yasume Except the reasons outlined in the video.
Re: Nintendo Provides Official Advice for Switch Joy-Con Connection Issues
No issues for me so far. 2 hours with Shovel Knight and 6 hours with Zelda, all docked.
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is Officially One Of The Best Games Of All Time
For me, I knew BotW was something special when I was trying to describe it to friends. Re: Delivery Issues Spoil Nintendo Switch Launch Day for Unlucky UK Buyers
This is why I chose to pick up my Switch in person at a midnight launch. A messed-up sleeping pattern is preferable to anxiety and disappointment.
Shopto were top notch in delivering Zelda SE - 10am on release day. Really sucks for those affected, though.
