The Nintendo Download information is a day later than normal for the second consecutive week, yet the details are finally here. They bring two Virtual Console releases and a discount for Wii U, some more Luigi-themed discounts, and in addition the 3DS has a variety of new offerings — download-only and retail — arriving alongside a number of discounts. Let's get on with it.
Wii U Virtual Console
Double Dragon (Arc System Works, €4.99 / £3.49) — A fondly regarded 8-bit beat-em-up, this is likely to get quite a few purchases based on memories alone. It's now on Wii U in Europe, and you can check out our Double Dragon review for more details. This is the US version of the game.
Super Dodge Ball (Arc System Works, €4.99 / £3.49) — The NES wasn't short of sports games, so naturally there's one for Dodge Ball. This does have a twist, however, as it features the characters and style from River City Ransom, which means some humour and crazy gameplay. We'll take this on again, but in the meantime you can read our original Wii Virtual Console Super Dodge Ball review. This is the US version of the game.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discount
BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Gaijin Games, €3.99 / £3.33 until 20th March, normally €11.99 / £9.99)
"Luigi" Special Offers
Wii U:
Dr. Luigi (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99 until 18th March, normally €14.99 / £13.49)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo, €2.49 / £1.74 until 18th March, normally €4.99 / £3.49)
3DS:
Luigi's Mansion 2 (Nintendo, €35.99 / £31.99 until 18th March, normally €44.99 / £39.99)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo, €2.49 / £1.74 until 13th March, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
3DS eShop
Pokémon Link: Battle! (Nintendo, €7.99 / £7.19) — Known as Pokémon Battle Trozei in North America, this incorporates match-3 puzzling with battles and the age-old activity of collecting pocket monsters. With four player co-op and all of the Pokémon included, including those from X & Y, this could be a hybrid experience perfectly suited to 3DS-owning 'mon fans. We'll collect 'em all and let you know what we think.
Cubit the Hardcore Platformer Robot (CoderChild, €2.99 / £2.69) — As the name makes very clear, this is a hardcore platformer that aims to challenge those with quick thumbs and instincts. The safety of 3DS systems will be endangered, undoubtedly, and though short this game may tempt a number of gamers into score chasing; you can see our recommendation in our Cubit the Hardcore Platforming Robot review.
Cube Tactics (Teyon, €4.99 / £4.49) — This is a tactical war game, with the twist that the battlefield appears to be constructed of destructible cubes that you can place yourself. It includes over 25 single player missions and online play, in which you can take on up to three others. We'll strategise our way to victory and bring you a review soon.
3DS Retail Download
Yoshi's New Island (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) — Available from 14th March. Over 18 years after Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, a direct sequel arrives for the iconic Super NES title — though other releases have perhaps qualified as sequels too. Yoshi has come a long way since those days, and makes his début on Nintendo's latest handheld with various abilities and transformations to aid you in your quest to rescue Baby Luigi. Our review will be with you prior to release, and in the meantime you can check out our interview with producer Takashi Tezuka.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts

Zen Pinball 3D (Zen Studios, €2.49 / £2.24 until 20th March, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
Wakedas (CIRCLE Ent, €1.99 / £1.69 until 27th March, normally €2.99 / £2.50)
Witch & Hero (CIRCLE Ent, €1.99 / £1.79 until 27th March, normally €4.00 / £3.60)
World Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Ent, €3.99 / £3.59 until 27th March, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
In addition there is DLC content for Star Wars Pinball and CastleStorm on the Wii U eShop to consider.

Pokemon battle Link
Edit or Pokemon Link:Battle. Does it really matter
Link battles Pokémon. Now THAT would be an interesting crossover.
Shouldn't the three new Star Wars tables being added to the Wii U eShop update?
runner 2!! this time i won't miss!
Yet another (extremely) poor week of Wii U releases!
@Cosats That wasn't on Ninty's list, but I've added a note near the end with a link to the details, for those that fancy a bit of DLC
Thanks. Curious that with so little to present Nintendo of Europe misses from its list this information!!!
Hmm I might pick up super dodge ball and star wars pinballthe rest is lackluster and if I buy Yoshi's new Island it will be physical but that depends on reviews.
Meh again. Pretty bad week as usual, given up at this stage but I still come back each week in hope. Must get around to trying Runner 2 as I get it in the last sale.
Still REALLY unsure about Yoshi 'New' Island. Seems like its gonna be crap or it could be a digital release for €10.
CubeTactics maybe, Link Battle likley and Castlestorm DLC for sure.
Titanfall and Secondson and Dark Souls 2 are out this week so Im not sure if they will all get enough playtime right away.
Well, I'll be downloading Dr. Luigi at that sale price as well as Pokémon Link. Plus I'm getting the physical version Yoshi's New Island. What a great gaming week!
Still waiting for Wii U eShop title Evofish review!
I want Yoshi to be good but when even Official Nintendo Magazine aren't impressed in their preview, it's not a good sign. Why do they keep giving him to Artoon? Why not give us a Yoshi game from one of the main studios?
@Peach64 While not a first-party studio, Good Feel is working on Yarn Yoshi. Given their previous games it could be really good.
ntohing interesting to me except maybe wakedas but seeing the game it reminds me that developers really need to build a mode that helps "colourblind" people to play the game
Looks like Nintendo are pulling out all the stops.
Not a bad week actually. Will be downloading Yoshi's New Island, and those discounts on Bit Trip and Dr Luigi are just what I've been waiting for to take the plunge! And they even managed to release 2 Wii U VC games, despite me not caring about them, which is something I guess. Was wishing a Nintendo Direct would reveal N64 games.
Wow... TWO Virtual Console games in ONE week!? Both games i could care less about but hey it's a start!
@Xilef If Yarn Yoshi is still being made, not saying it isn't but we've heard nothing about it for over a year now.
If only Dark Souls II were in this list... Now I have to go back to my old 360 for months...
for about the 25th week in a row.....nothing
If you don't have runner 2 yet then it is essential at that price.
Crap again
I keep looking in hope. My interest is rapidly diminishing.
I have even dug out my old GBA SP for another go at FF Tactics Advance.
I can't think why Nintendo are putting us through this week after week.
They must be trying to see how long they can taunt us all before giving us something a little bit decent!
I loved Super Dodgeball on the NES but I'm not sure the nostalgia is strong enough to get my money. The River City Ransom link got me excited for a moment until I realized it was just an example and not being added to VC this week.
The "Nothing for me this week" bar is always higher than any of the other choices. One week it was 100 percent of the votes. There is a games drought again.
The next wii u game I am going to buy is Child of Light...at the of April! Come on Nintendo don't do this to us.
Im pretty sure Child of Light is 1st May...its the next thing on my list too
I'm still to beat Wind Waker, started playing ZombiU again and also waiting Batman Origins and Lego City Undercover to arrive so I guess I'm good That Cube Tactics could be interesting though.
Oh yeah, Virtue's Last Reward and AiRace Speed are incompleted as well. Both bought from sale and totally worth it although VLR is not quite as captivating as I thought.
I like Super Dodge Ball. I think the PC Engine version in the Japanese Wii Shop is a bit more detailed, but this looks close enough to the arcade to work for me - besides it's in English!
Yet again nothing . Although I'm buying the retail version of Yoshi for "the other half." Like someone said above: "I keep coming back and looking in hope..." I've started playing Mario 3D world again and I'm also still playing DKC:TF. Oh well, maybe one week... As the saying goes "... Please Understand..."
I thought they may surprise us with a Wii U version of Luigi's Mansion, there has been many rumours over the last months.
It would be the perfect send off! However my hopes are not high, shame I don't have a console version of a game I only ever played on console!
I'd so much like Yoshi's, but won't be buying it just yet.
Double dragon was a fun game , I'm tempted !
As for the rest - Pass
Roll on 30th May.
I may get dr luigi, cant really see it going any lower than that
@6ch6ris6
I took the plunge with Wakedas and could beat the initial levels. Not sure if the game adds more colors later on. Need to get back to it.
@whodatninja No it's not a start; we've had two virtual consoles a week except one on each system. This week, two on Wii U compensates for 0 on 3ds. Nintendo is clearly not learning.
Actually they did say that Yoshi's New Island is supposed to be the third installment following Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, making it a trilogy.
I WAS gonna get double Dragon but just read the review......I want co op and thought this had it. Guess I played no 2 when I was a kid and not The first one. =(
I've got streets of rage 2 and golden axe 2 on Wii, I want to collect the best side scrolling beat em ups eventually......
Decent week..at least compared to the weeks in the last couple of months...
If Luigi's Mansion was ~ £25 then I probably would have taken the bait but that price isn't quite exciting me enough to pick up a year old game.
Nintendo Direct must be a decent chance this week right? If not I hope we will be getting some tasty information from GDC!
Well, given how much I moaned about the full price for Dr. luigi I really should put my money where my mouth is. Might get Runner 2 as well
Good to see the full retail game download versions getting discounts, but they'd still have to be cheaper than physical for me to buy them. How come Super Mario Bros. 2 is cheaper on Wii U VC than 3DS (pre-discount)?
@Jazzer94 It was obviously early in the development when first shown and they said that they considered to show the game on E3 2013 but didn't do it. Also the game has shown up on release scheldules several times. I very much doubt it's cancelled, there is really no reason to.
Yoshi physical copy for me
Nice to see Super Dodge Ball arrive on the Wii U.
Now, please give us Nintendo World Cup! That would've been awesome.
If Zen's pinball games go on sale in NA, then I know what I'm buying this week.
Yoshi feels like a supermarket own brand version of the game. It is clear what is trying to be but it is leaving an off taste at the moment. Maybe the game kicks into gear in the later worlds or something.
While I'm interested in Pokemon Link I've got too much on my plate for now.
@ledreppe Long story short. Wii shop price was £7 (or €10) for 1000 points as that was the currency conversion they used at the time. These days Nintendo use £9=€10. The most dedicated of people could buy the Wii VC version and upgrade to save money if the price was £4.50 (well break even on NES except being able to play in both crappy 50Hz and 60Hz, save something like 10p on SNES)
That's the fourth week in a row without a proper WiiU indie release - that's rather sad. I wonder what has happened to all the games scheduled to be released Q1 (1.001 Spikes, Citizen of Earth, Pier Solar HD etc) now that the quarter is nearly gone. Anyway, gonna get Dr. Luigi, more for the discount than for actual interest in the game.
Ok nothing this week. Now to buy New Super Luigi U while its on sale.
@Starwolf_UK Most games on the 3DS are like that. (Look like the exact same thing on the Wii other than really jerky). A Link Between World they did a better job on but they spoilt it by only having one puzzle in each dungeon. (Not played the master quest - they should have either allowed starting on it or just made the main quest twice the length).
Pokémon: Link Battle since Yoshi's New Island will be gotten at retail.
I need to secure a Pokemon Bank annual ticket before I lose my and my sisters' poke collection. I'll cry if I lose my thoroughly trained 'mon and shinies. And my sis will b****slap me till I faint if I ever forget it.
And I'm getting Pokemon Battle Link this week, Yoshi's Island next month (or whenever I finish DKCTF)
Anyone know when the review embargo ends for Yoshi's new island?
I might aswell download Super Mario Bros. 2, since it is awfully that cheap.
I guess the release list comes on tuesday nowadays. Also, it's been a while since I clicked something other than "nothing for me", Pokemon Link Battle for me.
Holding out for an Unepic or Castlestorm price reduction, so nothing this week for me.
Really want Dr Luigi but money's tight so just Runner 2 and SMB2 and maybe Star Wars Pinball.
Pro, if off topic, Tip:
After getting tired of waiting decent snack from eShop, I ordered almost entire Wii U backlog, and it cost me ca. as much as 1 new game.
Now I am swimming in games. Feels good.
Yoshi!! =)
Pokémon! I'd vote Yoshi, but I'm getting that one in physical~
@Mooj738 Still one more chance for a Luigi's Mansion because the year of Luigi ends on March 18. That means one more Nintendo Download. We can all hope right.
Well, that seems to be a good chance to get SMB 2 and play it for the first time in my life (even though I don't really have time for it now). It always looked interesting to me.
And now that I know that Super Dodge Ball is a kind-of successor to the great River City Ransom, I may get this one is well. I think it's worth mentioning that it wasn't released on the Wii VC in Europe before.
I just want to know why it's always just 2 games that are released on the Wii U eshop per week....I'm starting to think Nintendo is intentionally drip-feeding us eshop releases to prevent "droughts" but are denying indie releases in favor for their old pre-mario and Zelda snoozefest NES titles...
Slightly better week. Would still like to see better virtual console games.
Why do they keep putting crap nes games on wii u console boo hisssss
bring Gamecube games no wonder wii u is doing bad.
Pokemon Link Battle
Yoshi's New Island looks absoluely terrible
@Romeo Nothing could be any worse than a match 3 game.
@spizzamarozzi
Was just talking about Siesta Fiesta's still vague Q1 release date on another article. I understand delays quite easily happen but some honest updates would be nice, especially now since Ninty is upping their game on giving spotlight to indies. I'm not sure Shovel Knight will make it's 30th release date but hopefully it does since so far it looks like the only highly anticipated title we'll get this month.
Why would anyone download Yoshi's New Island for £35 when it only costs £27.85 at retail on amazon.co.uk with free delivery?
Why do they keep putting crap nes games on wii u console boo hisssssbring Gamecube games no wonder wii u is doing bad.
Gamecube isn't being supported right now. And those two NES games aren't published by Nintendo.
@Bass_X0 because DIGITAL4LYFE runs better (well at least for Wii U), gets rid of boxes space etc.
A saving of £7 which can go towards another game, or another case on your shelf or in the drawer. I'll go with the saving.
Did the DS Yoshi's Island really not count as a sequel? I get that yoshi's story is questionable but the DS game had identical gameplay and it was called Yoshi's Island DS...
2 VC games for Wii U and none for the 3DS? Weird. I hope Super Dodge Ball comes to NA on the 3DS VC.
@unrandomsam
Well, it's your lucky day then, because in Pokémon Link you connect FOUR Pokémon of the same type.
In all seriousness: It's a puzzler, but it's not a Bejeweled clone if that's what you're thinking. It plays vastly different and I see nothing wrong with puzzle games being released, as long as it's not just yet another Bejeweled clone.
Hoping for Dr. Luigi discount in NA
Still waiting on Senran Kagura here in Sweden, the date gets pushed back every week.
