Re: The Genki USB Bluetooth Adapter Finally Brings Low-Latency Audio To Switch

shani

NGYES!
Good thing I didn't pledge for the Genki yet, because... there's already something that does the job perfectly!

I ordered this one last week and got it today.

It works on the go, even when my Switch is sitting in my Hori Playstand.
And it also works docked via the USB-cable that comes with it.
No need to wait for the Genki or to pay extra for their USB adapter.

Re: Reggie Says Wii U's Failure Ultimately Led To Success Of The Switch

shani

‘I want to play with this tablet, this gamepad for the Wii U, but as soon as I get more than 30 feet away it disconnects.’

I never felt like this. IMHO anyone who did just didn't understand how it works. The Wii U was a genuine stationary console, not a handheld disguised as a so-called hybrid. You weren't supposed to take the Wii U Gamepad that far away because it's a stationary device for Iwata's sake!

Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?

shani

Are you kidding me?
That means I'd have to get a new Switch, at least if it features stronger hardware and better/more features (like longer, high-quality video sharing/streaming, browser, apps, etc.).
It would also be the ultimate proof that this is a handheld and not a stationary console or a hybrid (which it never really was) - because Nintendo only does that for its handhelds.
IMHO, if they're introducing new hardware, it should be a real stationary console that can use the Switch's as an additional computing unit.

But are we even sure this is not just an unfounded rumour?

@Damo And what does Donkey Kong (that's where the link in your first sentence is pointing to) have to do with it?

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - September 2018

shani

@nintendobynature @Captain_EO
So you're saying it's even worse than I thought and they have been clickbaiting people with this on a regular basis?
Repeatedly doing a shady thing doesn't make it okay or justified. It's still wrong and should be called out.
Doesn't really surprise me though, NL have ditched any journalistic or moral standards in the past year.

@justin233
Well Nintendo Selects exists since 2011, so I'm not sure how you could not have drawn that conclusion.
The term 'Nintendo Life Selects' obviously refers to that. And adding 'eShop' to the title makes it sound even more like a discount-related matter. Because why else put 'eShop' there if it's not about purchases and prices? It doesn't even serve as a distinction because every single Switch game is on the eShop.

So it's an obvious ruse and not the first example of clickbait on NL. They're constantly doing this, as are other sites. And they're trying to justify it by calling it 'online marketing'.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - September 2018

shani

@Ryancraddock

Wow, what a misleading headline!
'eShop Selects' suggests there is some kind of discount involved, as there has been a famous line of 'Nintendo Selects' titles that were sold with a heavy discount on a permanent basis.

Instead, the reader only finds a list of recommendations.
This one of the most shameless cases of clickbait I've ever seen on NintendoLife.

Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players

shani

What google-based servers? Nintendo's online games are not server-vased, they use P2P.

But it's normal in software development that a few users will encounter bugs that the majority has never seen. They're called edge cases.
The problem is that China has such a huge population that 'a few' can easily mean a (in other contexts) significant number of users.
And since the internet is known to amplify those that scream the loudest - usually people who have a problem to complain about - it's probably blown out of proportion.

I mean, just look at the article. It uses vague and untrustworthy descriptions like 'it appears' or 'believe' and is based on tests of a few normal users - they're not professional testers.
How about sticking to the facts instead of making wild assumptions?
Note that even my post is only based on assumptions because there is no reliable data to prove or disprove these alleged problems at this time.
That's what you get when you spread wild guesses instead of hard facts.

Re: Rumour: Cloud Saves Will Be Supported On All Existing Switch Games By Default

shani

While I totally agree about the underlying problem, I wouldn't say save-scummers necessarily had an advantage over other players.
A non-save-scummer might have got the desired gear via random chance while a save-scummer still had to live with subpar gear.
Of course the opposite also happened but I don't think it had an impact if you consider the whole Splatoon population.

Yeah savescumming in FM is just reloading a savegame because you can save any time (expect during a match). ^^

There might be sections of certain games where I can understand not being to save in between (like going through an obstacle course or something), but other than that, I'm absolutely in favor of saying anywhere, like in BotW. I hate looking for save points, especially when I just want to close the game and do something else.

Games that constantly autosave are also fine though. Rise of the Tomb Raider really was a positive surprise in that regard. In the beginning I fell down the cliffs every step of the way but luckily the game saved after every step. ^^

Re: Rumour: Cloud Saves Will Be Supported On All Existing Switch Games By Default

shani

@NEStalgia Of course there may be scenarios where both things might overlap, I don't deny that. But imho players should be given as much freedom as possible.

Splatoon is a good example. I sometimes used savescumming on the Wii U when rerolling a piece of gear (for the umpteenth time) gave me something completely different than I wanted. Those damn snails are so previous!

But to give more context, I believe that was completely justified, because when you've played the game for several hundred hours (in my case >600 hours) and after countless rerolls you still weren't able to get the gear you want, what's even the point of playing?
One of my main goals in my personal Splatoon 'narrative' was getting the perfect gear for my playstyle and then playing more ranked with it. But the system was so broken that I eventually had to savescum - and even then I didn't get what I want.

Creating the perfect gear was really one of my main motivations (apart from improving my ranks) to play Splatoon every day so it was very important for my enjoyment of the game.
Luckily they fixed the whole gear system in Splatoon2.

I never used savescumming to regain a rank I lost though because that would be cheating. But even if people did that I absolutely agree that it's still Nintendo's fault for not storing online profiles online... I mean come on, who does that?!
Besides, one shouldn't forget that savescumming was an arduous process, it took quite a long time to copy and load savegames just to redo one reroll. So that made sure people wouldn't exploit it too often.

Meanwhile, in Football Manager 18 I sometimes use savescumming because of the narrative I have planned for that season or part of the season. If things go terribly wrong, I might reload an earlier save etc.
And that's a perfect example for a game where savescumming is really completely harmless.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Sticking With Nintendo In "Difficult" Times Has Helped Their Relationship

shani

Seriously?
I mean, I agree with most of what's being said in the article, but are Ubisoft really pretending all that stuff with Rayman Legends (finished Wii U exclusive was pushed back last-minute for half a year to make it multiplatform) and ZombieU (exclusive Wii U game was later ported terribly to other platforms) never happened? Or how they supported the console at the start and then quickly abandoned it, even going so far to not release an already finished Wii U game?

And why is there no mention of this in the article @ryancraddock ?
Again, I don't have any issues with Ubisoft currently, I actually enjoy quite a few of their games.
But I expect a journalist to mention this kind of criticism, even in an otherwise positive article. Otherwise it's not even journalism anymore...

@Frendo Because that would be a terrible idea. Please let the Splatoon IP alone!
