Re: Switch Hackers Are Now Forcing Adult-Themed Imagery Into Super Mario Odyssey

shani

@Kirgo Nope, you seem to misunderstand the concept of hacking. The main motiviation is gaining freedom by circumventing restrictions. It's essentially a form or protest.
If there is full freedom, there is no need to hack anything.

So, if everyone could just choose their profile picture freely - as they can on any other online service - hackers wouldn't have had a reason to do this.

Re: Switch Hackers Are Now Forcing Adult-Themed Imagery Into Super Mario Odyssey

@thiswaynow Why? There are still parental controls.
No one needs Nintendo patronizing their users, especially with things like apps, profile pictures etc.
Besides, Nintendo's policies don't replace parenting. Parents still have to do their job.

Also, Nintendo's products are not only for children. In fact, their target audience are young adults.

Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players

While I totally get how aggravating it must be - and I certainly condemn that they did it in League, when you are actually battling for something - at least this way we get to see the map sooner! And it reminds me a lot of Mahi Mahi Resort, one of my favourite S1 maps.

@Cosats The video isn't from NL, it's from some Splatoon players as you can see in the tweet.
And I wouldn't necessarily call it 'criminal activity'.

@Pestilence The online service won't change anything about that. It's just another source of income for Nintendo.

Re: Grab Yourself A Bargain In The Big Nintendo E3 2018 Sale

shani

@Marios-love-child Yeah, that as well. I hadn't even thought of a case like yours but for these cases the discount simply isn't significant enough.

FYI You can buy most of the big Nintendo games (without any discounts applied) for ~40€ in the South African eshop, so ~35 pounds. The same applies for non-Nintendo games of course, the SA eshop is just way cheaper.

So with that in mind, 45 pounds (~50€) doesn't even represent a discount, it's actually more expensive. ^^

Re: Grab Yourself A Bargain In The Big Nintendo E3 2018 Sale

Nintendo's discount policy (only give discounts in titles nobody buys) really makes discounts useless.
By the time they add a discount for an interesting title the person interested most likely already bought it.

E.g. what good is a discount on BotW if almost everyone who wants it already has it?
Nobody will suddenly buy BotW because it's such a great and huge high-profile game that people will buy it for the full price.
Whoever doesn't already have BotW probably doesn't like LoZ or fantasy or open world games in general.

With the limited number of interesting/good games on Switch (just look at the titles in the links from the article!), Nintendo should think about giving general discount codes so the user can choose the game they want to use the discount on.

Re: Officially-Licensed GameCube Controllers Are On The Way For Switch

shani

@LightyKD I feel the exact opposite and I had GC controllers for many years (@GC and Wii).

-The c-stick feels like it's not moving around as freely as it should
-the size and position of the A/B/Y/X/Z-buttons is confusing and feels totally off (which makes it harder to memorize and inconvenient to use)
-the L/R-triggers constantly feel like they're stuck, you never know whether you've pushed them completely through or not
-the start button is too far away to reach without moving your whole hand
-and the fact that the d-pad and c-stick are located on peninsulas is just a bit irritating

Just saying, the reason why it feels like a natural extension of your hand is probably because you've used it too long/often. At some point, the connections in the brain are so strong that even the most uncomfortable device feels comfortable.

And even if that were not true, that fact still stands that they are purely banking on people's widespread Nostalgia (just as they are with the (S)NES mini) with these things, not how comfortable a small minority might find these.

In contrast to that, the Switch Pro Controller felt like a natural extension of my hands from day one, and that's because it's a perfect piece of hardware engineering.
The only small issue is that - especially with earlier versions of it - the d-pad sometimes triggers a diagonal movement where it shouldn't (e.g. BotW).

Re: FIFA's Rival Pro Evolution Soccer Takes Another Hit With Loss Of Dortmund License

shani

@Appleflap Nope, that would destroy everything PES stands for. It's the more in-depth simulation out of the two and that was always their advantage over FIFA.
FIFA is already a little bit more arcade-like, so going in the same direction wouldn't help.

They could totally bring ISS back though as a full-on arcade title and sell both games.

I just recently got back into PES after playing a few rounds of FIFA on my Switch and it still has better gameplay and features that FIFA doesn't have. But it also has a few bugs, especially the PC port (which Konami doesn't really care much about for 4 or 5 years at least).

Konami really developed into a poopy company.

Re: Hardware Review: OJO Projector For Nintendo Switch - The Ultimate Accessory?

shani

I got two remarks:

1. Anything below 1080p is useless - why would you even advertise it as a Switch accessory if it offers only 854 x 480?!
2. Why on earth does it feature that same awful dock design that the original Switch dock has? They had the chance to make a proper dock and instead went with the worst option.

These two things turn it into a really laughable and useless product.
