@Gorlock There is one difference compared to all other systems that are already mainly digital. Most collectors came to the Switch after all other systems started to suck. so the amount of people who still want physical is far higher on the Switch than on any other system. In general I think Nintendo fans love physical since old Nintendo games became valuable compared to pc, sony or xbox games. There are far more Nintendo collectors out there than other platform collectors.
the original on ps and xbox was already a game key disc... remember you needed to be online to play the game for the first time. The game sold horrible and it seems like ubi soft did not even consider this to be part of the problem and keeps continuing this horrible practice. hard pass on this one even though I think the game looks neat.
@Rosona I found that comment, and you are right about what you just said. But if you look just at third party games we are close to 90% that are coming only as Game Key Cards. But the Switch 2 is going to be successful and the Ouya comparison makes no sense I agree.
@Solid_Python You are fully right on this! Buy what you want I will not tell you to boycott anything! I personally do boycott those games.
You are also right on the costs. But when it comes to Bravely Default I'm actually curious why the game is so big at all... It's not a huge RPG and it has very lowpoly graphics with lowres textures. I'm pretty sure they could have made it smaller without compromising any visual quality to fit the 8GB card. I mean CDPR squeezed Cyber Punk on a Cartridge.
And I hope you are right with your future prediction!
@ParasolStars on my DSi all games that aren't installed are lost. It's up to us how long physical media is around. There is still phyiscal media with music and film and it likely will never go away completely. And man I can't imagine you buy a Vinyl and there is nothing on it but you can download the music .
@Rosona What exactly do you mean by "it's not true"? That the system is dead? or that almost all games are Game Key Cards?
I don't think that the Switch 2 is dead but if it would sell like the Steamdeck it would be Nintendos biggest flop, far bigger than the Wii u. Steamdeck sold very poorly compared to console standards.
@romanista that is a very subjective statement of yours. most switch 1 released games are fully on the cardridge and fine playable without any patches. There is actually a website that tracks all of this on all systems.
@Vectrex 1) the problem is that often emulation has a worse quality. sure many people don't care, others do. 2) I think your strategy is totally valid too, but it would be great if you would be in solidarity with others, who like physical games. The louder we are the better. You don't lose if we still get more physical games, you are just a nice person if you show your solidarity, and that is going to feel good
@NintendoByNature It was reporeted for japanese release, there almost every game seems to be just a game key card. In western countries it seems to be different.
@Shade_Koopa PC is slightly different than console in this regard. I assume your more of a younger gamer?
There are many fantastic games that are not playable anymore. Those game get lost. On PC it's A) very unlikely that steam shuts down servers B) you can buy your games at GOG and you will own the data and C) you won't get a new system every 6 Years that might make your old games unplayable. I also think it's not great on PC.
Why would someone want to play the gamecube version? no 16:9, low res, worse controls, less quality of life and so on... I really don't get it. give us the HD remastered version...
@dr-ghost people like you poping up now here and there. claiming to be soooo big nintendo fans. but tell me, what exactly did they messed up that you won't continue playing their games? is the hardware power too good? do you prefer getting a switch 1.5 that is out dated in a year for 399? for the tarrifs they can't do anything about, thats on you.
I think it was clear from the get go that they won't use hall effect sticks since they don't want to pay for the patent. And it's also not a deal breaker, I played a lot more on the OLED Joy Cons than I played on my launch Switch and still had no joy con drift. So I think the have figured it out.
@Dimey Almost. there are Street Fighter 6 comparisons on youtube, there is not a big difference. some reporters said that cyber punk runs better on switch 2 than on series S.
there was already not a big graphical step from ps4 to 5 and the step between switch 2 to ps5 is even smaller because the switch has dlss and ray tracing.
@Dimey why whats the problem? switch 2 games look almost as good as ps5 games and are portable. And you can expect one first party game from Nintendo each month instead of two a year or so... I personally even think that since the ps4 gen, we don't need any better looking hardware anymore
@GoldenSunRM I agree... I think the system and the games announced are freaking awesome and that should be celebrated.
not saying you can't talk about the pricing, i think thats important too, but the pricing of the system is not a deal breaker. if its now 450 instead of 400... if you can effort 400 you can effort 450 too.
@Dimey thats not a fair comparison since the switch has no equivalent to an all digital system, so you have to compare it to the one with a drive, then the comparison looks quite different. you can add to that, that the ps5 is half through its lifecycle and will in some years be outdated
@Medic_alert they said the eshop now runs smooth and they added stuff like "recommended games".
Regarding drift we have to see but they said they developed a new technologie for the sticks. I also have had 3 switches so far and since the OLED i had no drift anymore, so they have improved on this during the switch 1s lifecycle.
@datamonkey the system itself is actually extremely cheap. there is so much tech in it and it's portable... non of the portable competitors have a cheaper price with the same tech... even If you buy the steam deck with the same ssd, as soon as you add the dock your again on a higher price with worse looking games and no joy con.
the only issue the system has are the high physical game prices and they are on the same level as all other systems.
I personaly think the switch 2 is brilliant. the hardware is full of awesome new tech and the price of 450 is actually pretty excellent. they fixed pretty much all the issues of the switch 1. be it the chat system, the shop, joy con drift or build in microphone, headphone slot on the pro controller and many more things.
Also the announced games seem almost to good to be true.
I wasn't that hyped for games stuff in a very very long time.
I was only slightly interested in the game but CDPR is so awesome towards the fans, I have to support this . No other third party studio would make the game fully on cartridge
@PharoneTheGnome It doesn't matter if you pay american wages or the taxes... if you produce in the US it's going to be more expansive compared to china or vietnam
@prw_88 I find it hard to believe that it won't be successful... nintendo really needs to mess it up for it. I believe everyone is just craving for the switch 2 and in the first year it will sell crazy numbers. If it's going to have a long tail, we have to see. Another Animal Crossing combined with a pandemic is unlikely
Man so many analysts here, I'm one too btw... I said the whole time the system is going to cost between 400 and 500 bucks... It will also release this year! There will be games on it from Nintendo as well as from other companies.
@TCKuma I can more or less agree on this. Just one note, be careful when you go into X. Do not expect it to be the other games. The story is cool but it's mission based and you often have to do side missions in order to continue with the main missions. Anyway if you are there for the exploration you might get one of the best open world games
