Posting here as well, even if I don't know if you want to cross the Doom Slayer or anything, but: You can adjust Speech Volume and thereby mute the NPCs.
And now that that's sorted, go have fun with the game! Just started playing, it's gorgeous (I'd say best art direction in a game since Ori and the Will of the Wisps), has amazing sound design and so far plays absolutely fantastic.
To ease some peoples' fears of this game: You can adjust Speech Volume and thereby mute NPCs – including Miles Moranis. Subtitles are completely unobtrusive.
Thanks for the warning! Played a bit before bed last night and wow, that game is gorgeous! Stellar art direction, fantastic music, trippy sci-fi vibes, that vista over the desert … now on into the Jungle. Sorry for gushing.
@Thirteen1355 I often skip games for even minor niggles in reviews or even jump ship after purchase if a game does not really take off or something (mostly gameplay wise) irritates me. My main approach with the Switch 1 which I got in it's 6th year on the market, was to play my way through the titles on it's Metacritic top 100 list that interested me. As you say, so many games and so little time. But based on my previous experiences with the Nintendo (they are a bit of a special case for me) franchises I like, even the games that are not absolutely peak I still quite enjoy.
@Strawblaze I guess having all these people (reviewers mainly, but also people trying it out at conventions etc.) thoroughly play and critique a game will probably offer a lot of valuable feedback – maybe some of it quick to implement. Nonetheless I would really like more features on post-release impressions or review adjustments for heavily patched up games. Can't imagine though that Prime 4 needs any sort of heavy patching.
@Thirteen1355 Fair point and I personally would take a game like Dread over any from the Prime series. They are just completely different animals.
And you're right, it's not always all sunshine and daisies in Metroid land, but overall even the middling entries in the series are pretty strong games. And without first hand experience it's hard to tell how the new one will shake up in comparison to the previous Metroids. I'm quite excited for it though and can take reviews nowadays (and review aggregates) only with a grain of salt anyways.
I mean just look at the recent (especially user) scores of titles like AC Shadows and the new CoD game. Though I don't personally like both of these franchises, they are clearly review bombed and not for lack of being quality games. You see a bit of a reverse in the case of SW Outlaws. Now that the dust from the initial release has settled, the Switch 2 version reviews rather favorably.
There has been quite some drumming up of controversy before the release of Prime 4 also and some outlets will certainly feed off and into this as it drives traffic, engagement and therefore revenue.
@Lilligant562 I mean the whole Prime 4 "open world" drama by now just seems like it's being kept alive for the sake of controversy. It's absolutely no open world game. It's more like the map structure that all the Zelda open world critics so fervently demand back for that series. Hub overworld + fully fledged dungeons. Many Metroidvainias use a similar structure.
People also tend to have somewhat rose-tinted glasses when it comes to Prime 1, which became glaringly obvious with the remaster. Still a great game, but sometimes the backtracking through at times several biomes at once became a right slog, the scanathon was a bit too much and a completionist's nightmare and some boss battles were truly lame. Atmosphere was perfect though.
@luke88 "I mean, is there a human being alive who saw that trailer with the desert open world area and thought, 'wow, that looks great,'?"
Well, actually yes. And just look at some of the screenshots of it in NL's review of the game, they are quite strikingly beautiful. But maybe you're one of those people who look out at the calm sea and after a few seconds proclaim "boring, let's go ride the banana boat!"?
A game like Journey might just be your next Halloween horror pick.
@OLD64FOREVER Good choice! I hope you'll enjoy Bananza as much as I did. A truly great launch (well almost launch) title.
And Mario Kart World is the perfect side companion to that for short (or longer) multiplayer sessions. Knockout Tour is the best addition to the series in a very long time.
And to calm some peoples' nerves I will here quote from a comment by @Olliemar28 under his review of the game:
"The puzzles are great; some of the best in the series, and there are plenty of them.
Despite the added dialogue from the Federation Troopers, much of the game is quiet and isolating, with some areas completely without power or enemies for long stretches of time. It's equal parts calming and unsettling."
@Yoshi3 "I’ll wait for your comment in around 7 to 8 years"
I'd actually expect Prime 5 (Switch 2 exclusive) much sooner, maybe with an interval rather like between BotW and TotK or even shorter (because it's not a large open world 😉 and more streamlined). It's much easier (also judging from Prime 4 being the rumored money pit it would make a lot of financial sense) to keep the development ball rolling once started and I would be surprised if the next one isn't already in the pipeline and quite advanced in development.
Edit: Maybe we get a sequel to Dread in two years time and Prime 5 another 2 years after that. One can dream at least!
@DennyCrane Thanks a lot! Well for me then it will be quality mode all the way. I will certainly try out the 120 fps, but 60 is quite perfect already and increased frames just can't beat the higher image quality on display there.
@Jack_Goetz Though I‘m pretty sure I‘ll like Prime 4 a lot, I will probably also play through Dread once finished. It‘s my favorite game of the whole Switch 1 era.
Only skimmed the review to not spoil any story beats for myself … Glad it reviewed well on here. Come Thursday I‘ll dive right in and give it thorough whirl (and probably won‘t stop – except for sleep and food – until I‘ve seen it through). Not too (or at all) worried about mixed reviews, the media landscape changed quite a bit since the last Prime games were released. A negative or even middling review on such a high profile / highly anticipated (and in the last couple of weeks also divisive) title can drive a lot of traffic. I for one am very excited. Let‘s go!
@WiltonRoots Never a dull moment with these folks … Just look at the adorable cover image dripping with cuteness above and then all the cut-throat comments below. Quite the contrast. Maybe some spotted the rainbow in the image and something inside them just snapped … 😆
@Yalloo Which one is it? Mine is a Kirby one too. Return to Dreamland was also the first one I unlocked during the game's Maximus Cup and it is still by far my favorite. The soundtrack on that one is just perfect.
@SBandy1 Exactly, one can not like a game personally, but still want to see it succeed! It’s the same for me on both accounts, also no Musou fan. Hope though both games find their way under many Christmas trees and gather new fans. These are like the games a non-gamer aunt or uncle would gift, because well it‘s Kirby/Zelda.
@SBandy1 I know! ✌️ And Air Riders is not for me either, although I really really hoped it would be … cause I mean it‘s Kirby and I really like that little fluff. Would love to see the game find a bigger audience, it‘s quite unique and we need more of that.
@Duncanballs It was actually quite entertaining. 😆 But yes, once the game is out I‘ll sign off for a while. Though I booked tickets for a screening of The Goonies at a local cinema on the 4th of all days, for the next couple of weeks I‘ll spend my free time mostly on Viewros … NL comments be damned!
Metroid Prime 4, Skate Story and Terminator 2D (all digital) will be my picks for the month. December is absolutely stacked with great games. And moving into next year I absolutely can't wait for ChromaGun2 to arrive in February …
@WiltonRoots Now all the comments are gone … it's like a game of whack a mole.
I'd be really curious to know how in all the outrage the percentages are on here between actual users and campaigners/activists/trolls/bots. I mean it's far more diffuse than during say gamergate, but there is certainly still a lot of effort going on in targeting media companies and adjacent communities. Nintendo as a family friendly generation spanning company must be a prime target. NL is still comparatively civil though, I just hope it does not turn into one of those toxic swamps …
Edit: But I must tread careful now, someone might just accuse me of wearing a tinfoil hat again.
Edit: oh why am I even responding. Just a recently (Wed 26th Nov 2025) signed up anti-wokester troll … ranting in his other comments against "pink haired activists", wtf!?
@Gamebits The game needs no update. Switch 2 received a system update which included the fix. It‘s Nintendo implementing the fixes in their backwards compatibility layer, or whatever it‘s called, not the developers updating their games.
@WiltonRoots Yeah, you’re right. I mean putting the most divisive character directly in the subhead (and the most goofy looking image of him in the teaser) is not exactly subtle. It will probably be the usual single issue flare up before the game releases (anyone remember the Bananza is only punching stuff controversy?), followed by almost universal critical acclaim, followed by most people enjoying the game and only a handful of people (or paperclips) who can‘t help themselves and bring up Myles, Myles, punch, punch, nothing to do in an empty open world in every second Switch 2 discussion … Enjoy your weekend!
@OmnitronVariant For weeks now (mainly in the forum threads about Prime 4 and Switch 2 in general) you keep ranting against / complaining about a game you repeatedly insisted you have absolutely no interest in. What‘s your deal? Are you some self appointed champion of the aggrieved? "Engaging in discourse" it is not …
@luciobar1980 Agree 100%, it always baffles me when self proclaimed "fans" insist they know better than the creators themselves what their creation is all about. And even more so when the whole thing is not even out yet. I would also argue that an endless repetition of the same can actually lessen the impact/appeal of the original retroactively.
Maybe it‘s like with the movie Aliens which is a great sequel (and a classic in it’s own right) exactly because it did not do everything just like the first one while keeping it‘s core identity. And it also had space marines, so let‘s hope this all plays out nicely. 😉 The reason why there is so much (an Infinity of it, it seems) Marvel crap these days, is because tried and tested stuff is endlessly recycled to please the "fans".
I had a lot of fun with the game. And as I have never seen this game in action before playing it on Switch 2, I thought it looked and ran really great, still do.
Great for people still on the fence and those who (unfortunately) get their news through YouTube and the like. Not me though, I'll wait for my pre-order to come through the wires and explore Viewros myself, thank you …

Re: After Years Of Waiting, Metroid Prime 4's Launch Trailer Is Finally Here
Great showcase! Best of the trailers yet, I‘d say.
What the trailer does not include
Still though, deserts being deserts that one is pretty empty. 😉 But it‘s quickly crossed.
Hope everyone‘s copy soon arrives. Have fun!
Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form
@MJF Even better we now have Dread AND Prime 4.
Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form
@Simu001 There is an option slider for Speech Volume in the game's menu. Just turn it down to 0% in Miles is quiet.
Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form
@Simu001 You can mute NPCs and the subtitles are visually so unobtrusive you can simply ignore them. Problem solved.
Been playing for a couple of hours now and I'd say NLs review is bang on, Eurogamer's is bang off. It's prime Prime!
