To Elden Ring or not to Elden Ring? That is the question I‘m pondering this weekend. Apart from progressing through and still very much enjoying Duskfade that is. It would be quite the time commitment and maybe it‘s better waiting for what a September Direct might reveal … maybe even a new Metroid!?
Slightly off topic, but I have seen extended gameplay footage taking place all over one of the game’s maps. At first I wasn‘t actually interested in the game because it‘s PvP(vE) and I‘m also not too much into Soulslikes. So I didn’t sign up for the network test. But this game actually looks so great visually, the gameplay so dynamic and fun that if they get everything running properly it might become Nintendo‘s next GoldenEye. Guess I‘ll have to cave and give Elden Ring a go to see if can do Soulslike…
In these kinds of situations "failure" is more valuable than success. Not much to learn when it‘s smooth sailing and there is definitely nothing disastrous about it.
Good reminder that I still have to get this and Mina the Hollower at some point in time. Both look great. All the better now that there is a Switch 2 upgrade for Pipistrello.
@Yosher It actually was. But maybe they‘re bringing it on again because the Switch 2 version is such a massive improvement + it constantly gets new (and free) expansions so there's a lot of new stuff to try out..
In the 80s there were still boundaries to push … today, not so sure. Watched another uncut / uncensored trailer (the one linked above is pretty tame in comparison) and yeah, count me out.
@SuntannedDuck2
0/10 – not very nuanced, but congratulations on mastering the basic language patterns of Troll. You'll surely keep on delighting us here.
"I refuse to support them because their ideas are so weak" – So it's safe to assume you haven't actually purchased/played the game? Explains your rating and "Harsh" points much better. Solid basis.
There's a difference between an homage and nostalgia bait, but again I won't expect nuance here …
@Yousef- There was an update today already. It seems they have fixed the problem with the lock on in combat. Controls much better now. Apart from that it's a gorgeous and fun game (3 to 4 hours in so far).
Just unlocked my last missing Maximus Cup theme during the Tetris 99 sale which ends (I think) in two days. Now I‘ll continue with Duskfade which I am really really enjoying so far. I‘ll be sure to mix in some Truxton Extreme and Star Fox in between. Abandoned FFVII Remake Integrade for now as it bored me to bits. Guess me and JRPG is just not a good fit …
@Interneto It's the word "forced" I find funny. Reading that I hear the game masters' whips cracking behind players and see game addicts shaking with withdrawal pangs because they can't play every game under the sun …
Actually a word for board game in my native language literally means "a game you play in company" and the name for Ludo roughly translates as "Dude, don't get angry!" (like when someone kicks you out).
These things are hard to replicate with an AI (a game like It Takes Two, Splitfiction and hence Orbitals and their level of interactivity/immdediacy I would consider impossible with current AI) as most of the emotional/social aspect would be wiped out completely and which is central to the fun they provide.
I wouldn't want to shame anybody for it, but imagining someone playing Mario Party (or something like Ludo) solo is kinda sad. I play mostly solo myself, but there are a million better games for it. Why not appreciate that instead of lamenting being left out?
… and not that I can't empathize, the game does look amazing.
@ShadLink @abbyhitter "Forced co-op"!? That cracks me up a bit. Would you also call many classic board games forced multiplayer? It‘s the whole premise of the game and if you watch the video there just isn‘t an AI capable of the level of interaction between players that they are aiming for … Not everything has to be for everyone.
Edit: And I‘d wager that instead of missing out, they‘ll actually get a lot more sales exactly because of that.
Gladly I already played this with my brother on his Xbox S when it came out. It's a really good game. Nevertheless I wouldn't buy this now even if I hadn't. Won't give my money to PIF, Kushner and Co.
Will spend the rest of my weekend contemplating getting Jesus Simulator for Switch … It’s on sale right now and the trailer looks awesome: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/jesus-simulator 😆
Alternating between Truxton Extreme, Star Fox, Street Fighter 6 (Yasmine) and Final Fantasy Remake Integrade. Apart from that I just unlocked the Splatoon Raiders theme and another one on sale in Tetris 99. Only five more to go until I have unlocked all of the Maximus Cup themes.
Didn't offer too much for me anyways … but I will now cease buying anything published by EA. Unfortunately that also means Hazelight. Guess Split Fiction (cracking game though) was my last EA game.
@KainXavier Hope you enjoy Devastator once you get to it! And I second your hope for a Rhythm Storm port. That game looks awesome.
Regarding Tiger Heli: Apart from the NES version I only ever played the game on a MAME emulator … but that was also almost 20 years ago. Maybe I'll just get it with the Toaplan collection or Kyukyoku TigerHeli Arcade Garage for Switch one day.
Never had any Atari console and started out with Commodore C64/Amiga 500 as well as Nintendo Gameboy/NES (well, actually Game & Watch). While being a huge flop the CD32 was actually a fun little system. We even had a hardware expansion that turned it into a full Amiga 1200.
And as for TxK: I always keep my Vita charged. Maybe I'll replay some stuff on it once I'm done with Truxton.
@Shiryu Some games are 10/10 maybe only in my fond memories of them. Like Tiger Heli (NES), Battle Squadron (Amiga) or Super Stardust (CD32). I rather keep them there, because my rose tinted nostalgia too often came before a hard crash down to reality when revisiting childhood favorites. That's also why I really appreciate efforts like Truxton Extreme. Thanks for the review!
@KainXavier Thanks for the plentiful suggestions and the shoutout to Radiangames. Devastator on Switch (I still have to try out Inferno 2, but luckily it's actually on sale right now for 1,99 € on the European eshop, Devastator as well for 2,09 €) is pure unadulterated twin-stick bliss. Not an ounce of fat on that one.
The PS Vita was for a long time my shooter system of choice (Geometry Wars 3, Super Stardust Delta, Resogun … ), but has long been surpassed by the Switch. I mean c'mon just the ability to play in TATE mode with a flip grip and revisiting stuff like Ikaruga. Now getting games like Sektori and Truxton for Switch 2 is just making me so happy.
With a steady cadence of almost one new game each month, I feel no one should be worried about Nintendo wasting capacities with regard to new and original content. Keep them remakes coming! I personally love revisiting games that I haven‘t touched in decades …
No matter who is being called out for what (or not), people and their careers/livelihoods should never ever be treated like assets to flip. Even if it's the American way (copied by corporations all around the world), at the end of the day it is just morally wrong. Simply an easy way out for execs and shareholders with zero personal accountability.
Does "in production in 2026" mean the physical copies? If yes, the game is already finished. Let‘s hope for a release quite soon. I‘ll gladly take August as some here suggested. Together with Star Fox and OoT Remake (and Sektori of course 😉) this would make for a perfect 10 out of 10 2026.
In the evening I‘m going to continue Rise of the Tomb Raider on the big home cinema screen. Visiting Baba Yaga in one of the side quests from the included expansion. Visually really impressive and currently quite trippy. Really great get from the Direct. Apart from that some more runs of Sektori. Didn‘t play too much during the last two weeks, but luckily still in the Top 100.
I've had my fill of franchised Beat em Ups for now … I guess the only one I'd make an exception for is Masters of the Universe if it turns out a quality game.
@Pillowpants: I guess I can still rewatch the first three season (though I'm not planning to for a very very long time). But the rest, I'd run for the hills … It was just so drawn out and tedious. Almost like all these Beat am Ups each with a different lick of paint.
@Pillowpants Falco's actually a Skeksi who turned to the light side.
I love the new design! It feels like a long held vision realized. I also think it suits Nintendo to diversify the styles for their different IPs a bit more.
Had to let this settle for a bit as I'm not a huge fan of either soulslike or JRPG games and the spoilers upfront took the final moment of surprise out of the Direct (well, F*** you for that NatetheHate!). Was honestly a bit disappointed afterwards. But hindsight and also watching several full trailers now for games that were only in the sizzle reels or short announcements have helped. Also taking the announcements from other shows into account.
Even with Mario only present in outfit form, the support Nintendo Switch (2) is getting in terms of games is massive and excellent. And even for me there was still plenty. Orbitals, Tomb Raider (very much enjoying that already) and Muramasa are must haves (Star Fox I have long been sold on), several more I'm at least interested in / curious about and the announcement of Ocarina would have rocked my world. Again, if it had not been spoiled.
Good to see the info graphic now, it really gives a better impression of the scope of games that were shown. Also a good idea by Nintendo to give more room to 3rd parties by not stealing their fire too much (thereby securing their ongoing support) with back to back releases of Mario, Mario, Zelda, Luigi, Mario, Smash … I just hope they stick GTA the finger and release Ocarina on the very same day.
All in all it was an excellent Direct. Not everything to my tastes, but why should it!?
@-wc- "at least on Nintendo fans" … certainly not all Nintendo fans. But I‘d say "the gamer" has been identified as a susceptible target by certain parties.
Always planned on getting this and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir for PS Vita, but never got around to it. Really happy for it to come to Switch 2, this might finally be the time. Maybe I‘ll play some Dragon‘s Crown till then …

I hope this game does really well! I'll take a game with heart and a little jank any day above much of the soulless AAA fare …
Started it up yesterday, but will dive in fully over the weekend. Really looking forward to it.
Re: Carve Some Time Out Of A Busy September For This Adorable-Looking 3D Puzzler
@Henmii Of course I do. It's definitely not Portal level stuff.

@Henmii "dragging objects to their places" is actually a pretty perfect definition for what a puzzle is. 😉
Re: Carve Some Time Out Of A Busy September For This Adorable-Looking 3D Puzzler
As of now only the S1 version is available on the eShop … but there's also a launch discount and a demo which is pretty sweet.
