Great for people still on the fence and those who (unfortunately) get their news through YouTube and the like. Not me though, I'll wait for my pre-order to come through the wires and explore Viewros myself, thank you …
This seems to be one for the eventual sale maybe in one or two years. I tried the demo and it was … nice, but not nice enough with all the great games coming out all of the time.
"It looks like large-capacity models are getting sucked up for AI use," and all this just because some a**wipes think we all are too stupid to use google or read a book once in a while …
Got the 256GB together with the Switch 2. That's enough for now to have all the games in my current rotation (and then some) on hand. Together with the 1TB in my Switch 1 and a handful of physical games I have enough space to never run out of something to play. Once 1TB (or 2TB evetually once available) Express cards go down in price I'll upgrade.
It will sell a decent chunk … but the games people will actually get for their new Switch 2s for Christmas will be MKW, Bananza and Pokemon Z-A first and foremost.
Kirby Air Riders, Metroid Prime 4 and Hyrule Warriors on the other hand are perfect as gifts. Unless you're a fan not really essential, but something to treat your loved ones or yourself with. Therefore I'd say they make even more sense during the holiday season when a lot is bought on whim and impulse.
Moderately sized for a Switch 2 title, just like one of the bigger sized games on Switch 1. Fitting for a graphically rather impressive 1st party cross-gen game.
Can‘t understand why people are already up in knots over one character … even The Empire Strikes Back had C-3PO in it and is still considered one of the best movies of all time. We know nothing yet.
Since there has been such an uproar over the file size of FFVII Remake yesterday/today: This update supposedly bumps up the file size to more than 50GB from originally around 13GB (according to SwitchCorner on Youtube).
When expectation (built up over 8/18 years) meets reality, that's the space in which drama is created. Hopefully, for the health and wellbeing of all concerned (gladly I‘m not), this – the Myles character as well as the bike segments – is just a mountain-molehill situation.
@Cipher36 When I pay that much for a game I play it, play it, maybe have one or two lighter/more arcadey games on rotation parallel to it (and Mario Kart on the console for whenever people come to visit), play it some more, play it, finish it and be done with for the next couple of years, because I put such an inordinate amount of time into it and want to move on to something else. Of course approaches differ, but at this size there are still 3/5 of the internal memory available for other games (most of which hardly come anywhere near the size of FFVII Remake). Between how many games do jump back and forth at any one time?
@datamonkey Haha… yes, that would certainly be great! As long as they keep the frames and resolution at this level. The PS version supposedly can‘t keep a stable framerate. In handheld it really looks great though (even with the reduced detail), which is my preferred way to play anyways.
@scoobdoo Well just look at games like Alan Wake on Switch, Nintendo exclusive gamers have not exactly been spoiled these last few years. Seeing a game like this run flawlessly at 4K/60fps is a difference like Night and Day compared to most of the ports we got. Also, it‘s supposed to be a mix of assets from both the original, as well as the PS4 version.
Apart from that I am now well into the game and it‘s incredibly fun.
@electrolite77 The take on the SwitchUp youtube video, the link to which I posted above (#141), is that it is kind of a blend of the PS3 and PS4 versions. Can't confirm or deny, but the video gives a good impression of what you are getting.
@lumothesinner In that case it makes absolute sense (with so many games coming out all of the time) to wait for a sale. On other platforms it is massively discounted all the time.
@lumothesinner They are sold separately and there is no upgrade path. You have to choose which of the two you want to play it on. But if you want to play in full res and unshakeable 60 fps, go for Switch 2. Switch 1 is most of the time stable 30fps, but looks pretty decent otherwise.
You can see them compared here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xutVcQ5Nxkg (SwitchUp Yt)
@Duncanballs Same here, looks and plays really good so far (Switch 2 handheld as well). Visually crisp and smooth frames. Can‘t compare it to other versions though as I have never played it before … absolutely great suprise!
@antlion To quote @JaxonH (unauthorized 😉) from the forum: "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!
Tomb Raider has GYRO AIMING and MOUSE AIMING and TOUCHSCREEN SUPPORT"
Seen it myself on Dekudeals about 5 minutes before the article dropped and downloading for Switch 2 right now. Absolute impulse buy range at only 16,37 € (10% off)!
@Cry_Zero I'd rather say – because around that time there will also be a lot of people newly getting a Switch 2 – the big winter/holiday titles are MKW, DK Bananza and Pokemon Z-A. Kirby is more of a black horse (and its mass appeal quite unpredictable as of yet) and Metroid Prime for the hardcore fans / "grown up" Switch 2 players. And also, it's still fall for at least another month.
@the_beaver Because there was a playtest going on the last couple of weekends. I would argue that hands on time with a game is a far better indicator of wether you like it or not than any review you read, however well it is written – no offense NL. It has unfortunately / luckily dissuaded me from getting the game and I was really looking forward to it and even had it on per-order until they announced the demo event.
Happy though for everyone who clicks with it. Go Kirby!
The Mario Galaxy collection came out in the run-up to the Galaxy Movie … I wonder what we‘ll be getting before the new Zelda movie!? Anything on this list or something brand new?
@Dr_Wright As a stylistic device used in a headline I think it‘s perfectly fine. And as an aside, making things slightly harder to read helps with comprehension and retention, all because the brain has to exert a tiny bit more effort / engage more with what is being read.
@WiltonRoots "I said years ago that these people always find an excuse not to buy the game after begging for it for years." Silksong, Silksong, Silksong!!! … oof, too difficult.
@Franc001 I would never dunk on DKC2, but that‘s like saying "why rate chess that high when you have games like The Settlers“ on a list of the top boardgames of all time. Sometimes perfection is in simplicity.
@progx Exactly, family Aran getting transported to the wrong end of the galaxy and trying to find their way back. Sometimes it‘s good to shake things up little.
Not gonna watch the trailer, over seven minutes is too much information for me … but I really enjoy the screenshots! Already pre-ordered anyways and now it‘s just about avoiding too many spoilers.
Why should Nintendo take the inner workings of 3rd party hardware products into account this early in it's lifecycle? They are still in the process of rolling Switch 2 out to the public and optimizing it as they receive feedback from actual use/users. It is with the 3rd party companies to keep up with compatibility (through firmware updates) at this stage because Nintendo will have to keep momentum – especially in a critical phase like the consoles run up to its first holiday season.
@JohnnyMind "should finally play Portal and Portal 2" You really should, they are quite amazing! But seeing your gaming schedule every weekend, it will probably take a while for you to get there.
Although I haven't played the first Chromagun, this second installment – especially as a Switch 2 version – has quite piqued my interest. I really like a good first person puzzler. And on a side note, I still hope the delisted "The Turing Test" will one day make a return to the eShop …
@SlowPokemon "I agree $70 is steep, but the answer to 'what the hell are we even being charged for' is obviously 'the game,' lol." Or people have actually, finally developed a hankering for the cards' exquisite taste. Has taken them long enough … And I guess the data on card is just the special sauce.
And that Pokemon game looks really sweet and tasty by the way. Though you're supposed to catch 'em, I could eat them all up (figuratively speaking only, of course). 😋
It‘s really good they did the trial! It looks gorgeous, runs flawlessly and buttery smooth, but the gameplay just wasn‘t for me. And I was convinced it would be. If you haven‘t played the original Air Ride, better take Nintendo up on their offer and do some runs this weekend. I‘ll stick with MKW.
Tried Kirby Air Riders, unfortunately not for me (too hyper and twitchy for my taste), but I‘m also almost happy. If it had been a winner, that would‘ve meant two full price games back to back with Prime 4 coming (and the whole Black Friday and Christmas sale madness on top). So that means I will continue my desperate attempt to beat Skarrsinger Karmelita in Silksong. 87 hours in and it seems I‘m finally reaching the edge of my capabilities … But I would also love to finish this game well before Prime 4 to still have some time to put into Hades 2 and Absolum.
Edit: Just beat her, pushed on and dived down to the (hopefully) final boss. End in sight! What a game.
@Kraven Played both of them today too. Great games and you‘re really right about Absolum and the beat-em-up genre being perfect for roguelike! And I really needed a break from trying to beat Karmelita in Silksong today …

Since I skipped the Wii/DS era it's actually been 21 years for me … though waiting would be an overstatement, it's exciting nonetheless!
