Both great games and their own separate thing. In comparison though, the post-game in Odyssey was a bit more fun. But after playing Bananza in which you can interact with everthing you see, other games suddenly feel more limited and their environments like mere decoration.
Tried out the Shinobi Demo on Switch 2 in handheld and it looks … blurry/fuzzy probably because of 720p. Gameplay and art direction are great though. Now it‘s up to Sega/Lizardcube: no Switch 2 patch/version no buy from me. Sorry.
Gonna try out the Shinobi Demo they just released … apart from that there was unfortunately nothing for me. Back to Bananza, MKW, SF6 and TotK! And the wait for Prime 4 and Air Riders continues.
As I'm currently playing exclusively on Switch 1/2 I'm pretty excited to see what's coming up new or ported! Though we're still missing some release dates, in terms of 1st party games my 2025 calendar is already pretty full … I'm also curious to see what current games (like the new Doom or Indiana Jones, maybe?) are coming and how they will run on Switch 2.
The Banana game which I‘m absolutely loving so far – just entered sublevel 400 which again looks and sounds very different and exciting – and maybe some KnockOut rounds in MKW in the evening. Happy Gaming!
@Sambuc Not me, but I could imagine a collector wanting to keep their copy in mint condition. Or someone with money to throw around, wanting to collect but not wanting to be bothered switching cards … maybe something like that.
Just started playing it today and am now in the second world (sub-level 101) … though I'm playing only handheld (which supposedly runs better because it uses VRR) I haven't noticed a single drop. It's silky smooth and absolutely flawless so far. Maybe there is something coming in the later game or it runs totally different docked, but right now I cannot imagine it's anything to write home about. I'm starting to suspect the whole performance discussion around DKB was blown out of all proportion.
Tapped the DKB Icon again hoping for a lucky mistake … alas, still a few hours to go it seems. Maybe in the meantime I’ll play some Smash Hit on my iPad – to honor the occasion and Ollies pun. It‘s pretty Zen but also has a lot of breaking and smashing. Should pass the time.
@Discostew Thanks for the explanation! Makes me really look forward to what is still to come later in Switch2s lifecycle. Already excited by what I‘ve seen/played of MKW, DKB and Prime 4 which all began in development for Switch1.
@Misima Drag X Drive does not even have local multiplayer (which ARMS and Splatoon do have). It's designed around online play. Given your logic, things like Tetris 99 or F-Zero 99 (and their regular events) or game trials for NSO members should not exist in their current form. NSO is around since 2018, offers lots of perks for it's subscribers for less than 2 bucks a month as a solo subscriber. This event just happens to be one of those perks …
@Misima No, it's a demo event hosted in NSO – most certainly an online multiplayer event. You'll need the online services for that. You don't pay for a demo. Those are free on the e-shop.
I'm there with you. Have been really enjoying these past few weeks. Just a couple of hours ago I wrote under another article "{…} My dopamine receptors are starved by a lack of new games and announcements thereof … but it's also kinda nice just to focus on playing only a few games thoroughly instead of hunting for the next fix. Chugging away at my second playthrough of TOTK and MKW local multiplayer in the evenings, rounds of SF6 in between. The DK Bananza icon on my home screen is taunting me though."
Would love some news/release dates for MIO:Memories in Orbit and The Eternal Life of Goldman. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and and Shadow Labyrinth are already bookmarked. Together with DKB, Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders there is a lot to look forward to this year already.
Announcements of new 3rd party games for Switch 2 being held back would explain the relative radio silence atm. My dopamine receptors are starved by a lack of new games and announcements thereof … but it's also kinda nice just to focus on playing only a few games thoroughly instead of hunting for the next fix. Chugging away at my second playthrough of TOTK and MKW local multiplayer in the evenings, rounds of SF6 in between. The DK Bananza icon on my home screen is taunting me though.
Just speak for yourselves … it already was my most anticipated Switch 2 game after it was first announced. Ever since Blast Corps I just love wrecking stuff in games.
Maybe Nintendo opened Pandoras Box when they themselves started talking framerates … but with an army of armchair experts flooding the echo chambers of the interwebs with speculation and farming clicks and engagement through outrage, fear, worry and puffed up entitlement, they obviously felt the need to comment on these probably minor dips in performance.
If anything it‘s good he mentions the hit-stop and slow motion effects in advance. I‘m almost certain many would (and probably will still) misread them as frame drops …
Some care, some don‘t … I‘ll try the game next week and decide for myself. But if in doubt and if dips aren‘t game-breakingly jarring, I‘ll prefer a fun game that pushes some limits any time.
The soundtrack now includes King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard … sold! And while I knew some of the tracks when the original(s) came out, there where plenty more to discover or even grow on me. Good thing they kept with the concept!
Have to try it on Switch 2, but Cocoon was already much improved performance wise on Switch 1 when I tried it again a few month after release. Stuttered quiet a lot when it came out but ran quite smoothly after the patch.
Since getting my Switch 2 on release day I only had to charge it once … can‘t see me wanting to replace that battery any time soon, or ever. Everthing else is top notch too and I never had any issues with S1 Joycons or ProCon1 either. As already stated above, repairability concerns are valid, but calling the controller piss poor is simply ragebait and objectively wrong. Furthermore, Nintendo seems to take care of repairs and mass produced cheapo controllers that quickly break and which you get en masse on the likes of Amazon are a much bigger issue. Since NES days I still have all of my original Nintendo controllers and they all still work.
Loved Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 on Gamecube back in the day, but … with DK Bananza coming next week it‘s nothing for me in this one. Maybe when there’s the inevitable sale further down the line.
Was good to have for day 1 purchases (especially higher priced ones like TOTK) or for rarely discounted titles … hopefully they come up with another scheme for Switch 2 when it's fully established.
People already put down significant money for the hardware setup alone and tbh people expect discounts for 3rd party games pretty early on. With 1st party games discounts won‘t come anytime soon so you can buy right away without already feeling cheated in a month or two …
@SpontaneousOutburst "Baaa baaa little sheeple baaa" a dimwitted retort copied by dimwitted people from other dimwitted people trying to not appear dimwitted, but to magically appear as they are the ones in possession of the TRUTH, because they "checked their sources" and "did their own research". Has gotten pretty old pretty fast.
@GBA_Yoshi_92 Thanks, I see now! But anyways, the first arcade game was a play on the King Kong story and the second appears to be a fun reference/nod to the classic in a game made in the nineties. No reason for Nintendo not to build up something a little more substantial. But also, in most Nintendo games story elements and character constellations seem to be more of a setup for gameplay mechanics and only fans are the ones demanding they give it some cohesion (e.g. Zelda). Keeping it loose allows them for more creativity in their game designs I think.
@acgp The setting enables/feeds into one of the game‘s core gameplay mechanics punching trough/digging into the ground and going to deeper and deeper levels. Also makes for good and intriguing world building. If @Mana_Knight is right and it takes inspiration from Jule Vernes novel that only further makes this point. It‘s a classic for a reason. Unexlored/mysterious places help the imagination run wild and unrestricted.
They were head to head for me, but Bananza is definitely in the lead now. Fantastic direct today. Maybe Nintendo can pull something similar with a Prime 4 direct though. Love my Switch 2 and year one is shaping up to be phenomenal.
@KayFiOS Partly right, but Handheld PCs are not competing with Nintendo/Switch. Switch 2 in four days sold more than half of Steamdeck’s lifetime sales. But they wouldn’t anyways, they do not share the same player base.

@Teksette Mark of the Ninja Remastered
Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Playable At Fan Expo Canada This Month
Most likely the next direct will show a new trailer and end it with "available later today!" I mean they shadow dropped Prime Remastered.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Multiple Switch 2 And Switch Games Launching In August 2025
Kirby upgrade pack is already pre-ordered. Picked up and played through it only recently, such a lovely game.
Apart from that I'll very likely get Shinobi too, have soft spot for side scrolling ninja action and this one looks ace.
Re: Random: DK's Fur Gets Brighter In Bananza When He's Powered Up
Nice touch! So much attention to detail in this game.
Still having a blast with it, now wrecking the post-game.

Great news! But please bring a dedicated Switch 2 version. That would make it a day 1 purchase.

I've already seen Mortal Kombat 2 in 1997 … wasn't a particularly good movie, so why are they bringing it back!? 😉
