Re: Poll: So, Have You Used Zelda Notes Yet?

jfp

I'm not interested in this feature. As I'm no completionist and not trying to milk a game for every drop of lore and secrets, I'm fine without it. The upgrade is fantastic though! Better frames, resolution and upgraded textures is all I need for theses games.

Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Kart World

@jkirchgessner07 Like a Planet Mario in the Oasis of Ready Player One! Oh I should reread the book again, it's been a while and it's like written comfort food to me …

On MKW: I stated elsewhere that I think the game design is quite genius, as you can go as narrow or as wide as you like. You can simply play it as good ol' Mario Kart – just with new tracks, modes, moves and transitions – or goof around, meet up, waste time in the open world. That should broaden it's already wide appeal even further.

Re: PSA: Switch 2 Updates For Multiple First-Party Switch Games Are Now Available

@Warioware You're right, it does read "Improve gameplay" which doesn't sound like fixed issues. And Mario Wonder came out when SW2 was already on the horizon. Maybe stuff was already baked in that just needs to be unlocked (4K support, 120fps – which SW2 should be easily capable of for this game)? At least one can dream and tomorrow come we'll know for certain. There will be a lot to try out. It's really exciting!

Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?

jfp

After all I‘ve heard/read about it … absolutely, yes. Improved D-Pad alone (to quote SwitchUpYt: "the best of this [console] generation"), together with the programmable back buttons, ultra smooooooth analogue sticks, new HD rumble and headphone jack should be enough of an excuse for a second Pro Controller for my setup. Premium but not ridiculously premium like e.g. XBox Elite.

Re: Nintendo Music Update Adds Over 340 Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Tracks

jfp

I would add, ambient tracks like 'Sky Islands‘ are just perfect for exploring in game – or long work sessions at the desk for that matter. Overall the focus on ambience during most of the game gives the orchestrated story segments that much more punch. It just does not make for a great OST to listen to on its own. Therefore my track recommendation. I listened to the soundtrack before and had to make playlists, one for ambience/deep work and one for Zelda OST listening sessions (I just love those, they always lift my spirits).

Re: Rumour: Iconic Studio Codemasters May Soon Close For Good

Should create a new custom list on DekuDeals with games/devs/publishers to avoid … but EA itself mostly creates what I would consider mass appeal garbage like Fifa anyways. They have some studios that do decent games (Hazelight), but I would rather see them go independent than give money to support EA.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility List

jfp

@johnedwin Many 3rd party devs most certainly do not yet have access to Switch 2/dev kits, so I would suppose they literally had zero time to fix and resolve issues. Nintendo themselves have thousands over thousands of titles to check to identify issues … so best just relax, play new games and wait for all the other stuff to get sorted over time.

Re: Nintendo Has "No Plans" To Use Game-Key Cards For First-Party-Developed Titles

jfp

@jamesthemagi I would rather say that while you will still have performance improvements, it might not have all of the dramatic load time improvements. But this is just speculation, we‘ll have to see how it actually plays out. But it still stands, Switch 2 can read Switch 1 cards. The higher card speeds are mainly geared towards the vastly more demanding S2 games. S1 games should run more than fine though.

Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

jfp

@OldGamer999 Sorry to hear it doesn't meet your expectations. I'm still pretty exited for it and think DK Bananza looks brilliant and a great substitute for a 3D Mario at launch. Not long ago many people on this site were pretty excited about the rumors of a new Nintendo console that was shown behind closed doors supposedly running BotW at 4K/60fps … and now it's actually (almost) here.

Re: 12 Switch Games Are Getting Free Switch 2 Upgrades, Here's What You Can Expect

jfp

@DwaynesGames I disagree. It actually is a purely stylistic choice. The sharp drop off in sharpness at the edges is called a tilt-shift, for convenience I will quote the interwebs: "A miniature effect or tilt-shift, is a photography technique aimed at making the photography of, for instance, a landscape look like a scale model". The whole thing is to give it a toy-like appearance, that is also why they went for that shiny/plasticky look of the 3D models in both games.

Re: 12 Switch Games Are Getting Free Switch 2 Upgrades, Here's What You Can Expect

jfp

@sanderev A cross-gen or even S2 exclusive remaster would explain why they held out on it for so long … replaying MP Echoes on Switch 2 would be fantastic!
Also underscores my first point: If I knew those were 100% coming and not too far out I might not have pre-ordered everything I did …
But yeah, a release date for MP4 will be overdue in June/July.

Re: 12 Switch Games Are Getting Free Switch 2 Upgrades, Here's What You Can Expect

jfp

@Res462 Announcements for what is coming is right now mostly limited to what was announced during the S2 direct. And it makes sense. They will want to make the launch an all around success and not dilute focus by rolling out all updates/upgrades all at once or announcing too many titles yet to come and risk people holding out on the launch lineup.

Re: Nintendo Says AI-Generated Images "Were Not Used" In Mario Kart World

jfp

In my professional opinion (as a graphic designer) and judging by these screenshots and also the billboards I have seen in the MKW videos: they were drawn not generated. I actually paid special attention to these as I marveled at the level of care and attention to detail in the game. There are telltale signs of AI generated assets, here I see none. People just like dumping on Nintendo right now …
