I feel it in my bones, this is gonna be great! Kirby as a character and the world he's set in as a whole just lend themselves to a fun competitive racer with great tracks (colorful, fantasy-sci-fi-space-race, trippy stuff) and fun special abilities (mouthful transformations). I never played the original, but it's like 20 years old. How much will they just strip away and fill with new creative ideas? There has been so much innovation in terms of game design since then and I'm certain they can heap on some more.
In a sense it's good the game was only middling in reception and size of it's fan base. It just gives them more creative freedom, because they can't step on too many toes if it deviates from the original formula.
@Dman10 It‘s almost tragicomic. Under every second announcement you read the same "Amazing this looks really great, oh no wait it‘s a Key-thingy. I will not play this rubbish by this rubbish studio ever. And by the way ***k you Nintendo for coming up with this ***t." Just slightly exaggerating of course. This game looks actually pretty nice and I would much rather play it on Switch 2.
@PineappleLake Unpopular opinion, but Hollow Knight – for me at least – was such a longwinded, dark and depressing drag. And I think Kyle Thompson is far more talented in creating a fun and balanced game. Also, Metroidvanias have been around long before Hollow Knight …
Crypt Custodian was one of my favorite games of the second half of last year. Loved the whole vibe (all sad, uplifting, cute and quirky at the same time) and crunchy gameplay/combat. Still have to play Islets, but this one looks even better. Day 1 purchase and my highlight of the direct.
Unless you're a collector, if you already own the game the upgrade should be a no-brainer. And if the post game and what they have shown in the trailers are anything to go by, this expansion is pretty substantial.
Stories in Nintendo games are only ever riffs on repeating themes in service of fun gameplay (monkey wants banana, plumber saves princess/kingdom, triforce etc.) and should be treated accordingly. Insisting on stuff like lore and canon only gives you things like the unbearable mess that is Star Wars or Marvel today.
Viewfinder for Switch 2, please! Most anticipated Indie for me right now is The Eternal Life of Goldman though. That one looks like Ducktales on steroids. MIO: Memories in Orbit might also show up again, this time with a release date.
Edit: Rhythm Storm or something else by radiangames goes on my wishlist too
Already pre-ordered the upgrade. More of this fantastic game is very welcome. Just played through it last year for the first time and had a blast. And with the overview trailer out of the way Prime 4 should be next in line. No big 1st party release scheduled for September yet …
Both great games and their own separate thing. In comparison though, the post-game in Odyssey was a bit more fun. But after playing Bananza in which you can interact with everthing you see, other games suddenly feel more limited and their environments like mere decoration.
Tried out the Shinobi Demo on Switch 2 in handheld and it looks … blurry/fuzzy probably because of 720p. Gameplay and art direction are great though. Now it‘s up to Sega/Lizardcube: no Switch 2 patch/version no buy from me. Sorry.
Gonna try out the Shinobi Demo they just released … apart from that there was unfortunately nothing for me. Back to Bananza, MKW, SF6 and TotK! And the wait for Prime 4 and Air Riders continues.
As I'm currently playing exclusively on Switch 1/2 I'm pretty excited to see what's coming up new or ported! Though we're still missing some release dates, in terms of 1st party games my 2025 calendar is already pretty full … I'm also curious to see what current games (like the new Doom or Indiana Jones, maybe?) are coming and how they will run on Switch 2.
The Banana game which I‘m absolutely loving so far – just entered sublevel 400 which again looks and sounds very different and exciting – and maybe some KnockOut rounds in MKW in the evening. Happy Gaming!
@Sambuc Not me, but I could imagine a collector wanting to keep their copy in mint condition. Or someone with money to throw around, wanting to collect but not wanting to be bothered switching cards … maybe something like that.
Just started playing it today and am now in the second world (sub-level 101) … though I'm playing only handheld (which supposedly runs better because it uses VRR) I haven't noticed a single drop. It's silky smooth and absolutely flawless so far. Maybe there is something coming in the later game or it runs totally different docked, but right now I cannot imagine it's anything to write home about. I'm starting to suspect the whole performance discussion around DKB was blown out of all proportion.
Tapped the DKB Icon again hoping for a lucky mistake … alas, still a few hours to go it seems. Maybe in the meantime I’ll play some Smash Hit on my iPad – to honor the occasion and Ollies pun. It‘s pretty Zen but also has a lot of breaking and smashing. Should pass the time.
@Discostew Thanks for the explanation! Makes me really look forward to what is still to come later in Switch2s lifecycle. Already excited by what I‘ve seen/played of MKW, DKB and Prime 4 which all began in development for Switch1.
@Misima Drag X Drive does not even have local multiplayer (which ARMS and Splatoon do have). It's designed around online play. Given your logic, things like Tetris 99 or F-Zero 99 (and their regular events) or game trials for NSO members should not exist in their current form. NSO is around since 2018, offers lots of perks for it's subscribers for less than 2 bucks a month as a solo subscriber. This event just happens to be one of those perks …
@Misima No, it's a demo event hosted in NSO – most certainly an online multiplayer event. You'll need the online services for that. You don't pay for a demo. Those are free on the e-shop.
I'm there with you. Have been really enjoying these past few weeks. Just a couple of hours ago I wrote under another article "{…} My dopamine receptors are starved by a lack of new games and announcements thereof … but it's also kinda nice just to focus on playing only a few games thoroughly instead of hunting for the next fix. Chugging away at my second playthrough of TOTK and MKW local multiplayer in the evenings, rounds of SF6 in between. The DK Bananza icon on my home screen is taunting me though."
Would love some news/release dates for MIO:Memories in Orbit and The Eternal Life of Goldman. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and and Shadow Labyrinth are already bookmarked. Together with DKB, Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders there is a lot to look forward to this year already.
Announcements of new 3rd party games for Switch 2 being held back would explain the relative radio silence atm. My dopamine receptors are starved by a lack of new games and announcements thereof … but it's also kinda nice just to focus on playing only a few games thoroughly instead of hunting for the next fix. Chugging away at my second playthrough of TOTK and MKW local multiplayer in the evenings, rounds of SF6 in between. The DK Bananza icon on my home screen is taunting me though.
Just speak for yourselves … it already was my most anticipated Switch 2 game after it was first announced. Ever since Blast Corps I just love wrecking stuff in games.
Maybe Nintendo opened Pandoras Box when they themselves started talking framerates … but with an army of armchair experts flooding the echo chambers of the interwebs with speculation and farming clicks and engagement through outrage, fear, worry and puffed up entitlement, they obviously felt the need to comment on these probably minor dips in performance.
If anything it‘s good he mentions the hit-stop and slow motion effects in advance. I‘m almost certain many would (and probably will still) misread them as frame drops …
Some care, some don‘t … I‘ll try the game next week and decide for myself. But if in doubt and if dips aren‘t game-breakingly jarring, I‘ll prefer a fun game that pushes some limits any time.

@ShadLink Thank you for pointing out the logical flaws in my entirely serious prediction. Good to know I can just leave realistic to you! 😉✌️

Shadow Drop tomorrow! Priced at 39,99.
Re: Feature: 32 Games We're Dying To See On Switch 2
My three whishlist titles got 2.3% combined in the poll. 😂 But I would really love to see Alan Wake 2, Lumines Arise and System Shock Remake, please.

Gamescom is just a 2 1/2 hrs train ride away … maybe I should take a day off from work and give a few of these games a spin.

Kirby upgrade pack is already pre-ordered. Picked up and played through it only recently, such a lovely game.
Apart from that I'll very likely get Shinobi too, have soft spot for side scrolling ninja action and this one looks ace.
Re: Random: DK's Fur Gets Brighter In Bananza When He's Powered Up

Still having a blast with it, now wrecking the post-game.
