Re: Opinion: Third-Party Support For Switch 2 Is Already A Dream Come True

It's so funny, even as the article drops the hint that this is not about GKCs, so many seem to be automatically triggered to melodramatically proclaim that because of GKCs the situation is "a nightmare", "disgusting", "awful". Or ridiculous stuff like "Key Card is like the game doesn’t exist". Do you even play the games you buy or just display them on your shelves?

@OldGamer999 I can understand your desire for such hardware capabilities, but it makes no sense for Nintendo. They will want the expriences of docked and portable play as similar to each other as they can be. That’s the whole point of the Switch, it‘s core DNA so to say. And as someone who mostly plays in handheld I also want that. If a game only runs really well in docked mode I‘m rather be p***ed, better not bring it to Switch then.

Re: Former GTA Boss Dan Houser Says Zelda: BOTW And TOTK "Feel Like Hitchcock"

@Potimarron No, obviously not. Just look at stuff like DK Bananza (where they could have just gone with another platformer in the traditional sense), Drag & Drive (a dual-mouse-wheelchair-basketball game) or even Zelda Echoes of Wisdom (with it's copy ability and massive deviation from the standard formula and even main protagonist). Or what about Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4 as their holiday titles this year? Both not really save bets and more in the "F-Zero" leftfield category, don't you think? And F-Zero 99 is actually still pretty recent, by the way.

I also think that people often make the mistake of confusing products (games, movies, music) that appeal to a large audience because they are geared towards the lowest common denominator, with those that contain something that has a universal resonance with people. I think much of what Nintendo does falls in the latter category.

It's the same in movies where many of the production "value" heavy blockbusters fall absolutely flat. You just need a good script, capable actors and someone who understands the language of cinema (and is willing to take a risk now and then) and can shoot a hit on a modest budget. And Nintendo understand the language of games better than most. It has so often been that I think a game looks really gorgeous and interesting, but in actuality plays like a**.

Re: EA Is Diving Headfirst Into Generative AI With New Partnership

I am deeply conflicted. I want to play Split Fiction, but I don't want to put ANY money in EAs pocket.😩 Guess I have to remain principled. I'm not opposed to all uses of AI, but currently and as a whole it's moving in all the wrong directions and putting money in the pockets of a small number of people who are actively ***** up the world for the rest of us.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (18th October)

Wrapping up Act 2 of Silksong (over 50 hours in) unless I get sidetracked again and find another boss in a hidden corner. Just stumbled upon renniS tsriF ehT (don‘t know how to set spoiler alerts, so I typed backwards 😉) two days ago and she put up a hell of a fight. It‘s still a wild mix between wanting to rage quit, discovery and triumph over adversity.
Happy Gaming!

Re: Game-Key Cards A "Sales Strategy Decision", Says Resident Evil Requiem Director

jfp

@WiltonRoots Me too, it feels rather inconvenient to have to swap cartridges anyways. So I don't care about Key Cards and physical not much either (though I like my Mario Maker 2 steel book edition). Unless there's a sweet sale. I also don't have a problem with limited SD space (or see it as offloading cost to consumer) as long as a sizeable number of games fit. Much less analysis paralysis or choice fatigue. I can download and have at my fingertips whatever I currently intend to play with the rest hanging happily in the clouds. I would only archive once there's a server shut down. Highly unlikely any time soon.

Re: Yooka-Replaylee Runs At 30fps On Switch 2, Team Investigating Performance Mode

@SBandy1 There's certainly a discussion to be had about the name … But I'm actually curious about the game and I like their dedication. You're not always matching your original vision on a first attempt in any project. They decided it was worthy enough to pursue further. I wish them all the luck! Hopefully it turns out great, for them and for us.

Re: Game-Key Cards A "Sales Strategy Decision", Says Resident Evil Requiem Director

@KociolekDoSyta You seem to be a collector. Then maybe we just relate differently to games. I simply like playing them and don't care much about how they are delivered. Like I like a cold lager, no matter if it comes in a glass or straight from the bottle. My real gripe is with how inflammatory this topic is, how inflammatory this article was designed to rile people up and how it detracts from what the main focus here should be: games.

Re: Game-Key Cards A "Sales Strategy Decision", Says Resident Evil Requiem Director

jfp

@KociolekDoSyta "even tho I don't and won't own Switch 2" But you're spending your time on a Nintendo fansite decrying a "storage" medium for a system you won't ever own? @uncleMike must have really hit a nerve there.

Edit: "Dignity? Yes, people who aren't buying GKC are the ones who have dignity." In your case dignity does not even come into play. If you bought a Key Card you would be plain stupid as you do not own the system. What are we even talking about here?

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Switch Resolution Update Now Available

jfp

Finally! This looks fantastic (Switch 2 handheld). The frames were buttery smooth to begin with and now it also looks the part. A huuuuuge step up. All the jaggedy edges, low res menu screens etc. are gone and only the beautiful art style shines. Once I'm done with Silksong I will jump right in.
