Got a 256GB with my pre-order … will go directly with a 2TB down the line. With Switch1 I increased incrementally along with my growing digital collection, which in hindsight proved to be a bit pricey.
June 5th is still a month an a half out, things will get sorted, stuff will make sense … chill out a bit. Reading through the comments lately it seems Nintendo visited you personally and trashed your living room.
It's actually kind of brilliant how they combined open world with plug-and-play arcade racing. You can go as narrow or wide in your session as you like. And the tracks do look fantastic!
Just please let them resolve issues with Alien Isolation, Tricky Towers (best local multyplayer game on Switch apart from Mario Kart) and Street Fighter 30th!
If we are going by screenshots: the animation in the last direct also showed Xenoblade Chronicles X and Mario Maker 2 when mentioning compatible Switch 1 games. It's safe to assume though, that all Nintendo 1st party games will be compatible.
@johnedwin I would not be so sure about Nintendo games not being big budget. They just do not publish production cost. Their games' style might not be 'hollywood-blockbuster' like most 3rd party AAA games, but they put a ton more effort into gameplay finesse, innovation, quality control and testing.
"When you hold the unit, it feels extra solid with no wobble. I forgot the controllers actually detach lol." That is what I was hoping for and kind of expected after the first console reveal. Back to Nintendos solid built quality it seems. I mostly play handheld and together with the new 1080p/120Hz HDR screen … this is gonna be perfect!
Invite arrived today without prior notice. It’s all in the bag now! … plus some accessoires and some platinum point merch while I was at it … Great that so many here got one!
Nintendos invites are still going out. Received mine 5 minutes ago. Wahoooo!! Cancelled my order with another retailer and went with them. So there's one more SW2 out in the wild. Go catch it!
@datamonkey At least one I can answer: Odyssey got the upgrade treatment and it’s free! No additional content, but upgraded resolution and performance. There is a list on the Nintendo website, 3D World is also on it …
@BFahey3 1) only the Zelda games for now. 2) If you already own the game or find it on sale for NS1 you only pay the upgrade price on top (10$ for Zelda, maybe Like 20$(?) for Kirby)
@ZombAid82 Same here, would have qualified on their conditions, but didn't get an invite. Maybe more people qualified than there were available units or they are staggering the invites? I also ordered at mediamarkt.de to pick it up on June 5th. Otto.de also still carries the pre-order. I put down the money and now hope for the best.
@Banjo- they added the whole voice acted Zelda Notes thingy and the built-sharing for TotK. And as for now I guess the added HDR lighting is not out of the box. If that is enough for you, is for you to decide, but they definitely put a lot of work into it for as expansive as these games are. Mario Odyssey/World, the two other Zeldas, Pokemon Scarlet/Violet etc. will all be free upgrades …
@Banjo- after a whole generation of WiiU re-releases at full price, I do not think 10$ for an upgrade is user-unfriendly and greedy … and only for those that have additional content. A whole list of others come free.
@MrBelmont Probably just means that there are more people who qualify than actual units available. By the listed criteria I should have qualified too … don't take it personally, I guess.
@Jhena Otto.de also still caries the pre-order, the Germans don't seem to be in a hurry about Switch 2. Go figure. Good though I immediately jumped on it as I didn't get an invite from Nintendo yet … Good luck to everyone else!
@domatron66 At least here in Europe it's not that easy to deduce: all four physical Switch 2 versions sell for the same 79,99€ regardless of the original price point. Maybe Kirby and Jamboree will be 20 quid per upgrade, maybe not …we'll have to wait and see.
20 bucks for all 4 Switch Zelda upgrades … I‘ll be quite busy for some time … never started the BotW DLC and did not get far into Links Awakening because of the jarring frame drops.
Perfect, wanted to start a new playthrough of TOTK anyway … 10$ for 4k, 60fps, HDR lighting (idk if that's even standard with the upgrades) in a game which takes roughly 150hrs to complete – and can be played almost indefinitely – sounds more than alright to me. It also adds the app-notes and built-sharing for those interested.
@Sakhasm Most of the announced switch 2 upgrades are free:
. Arms
. Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain
.Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
.Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
.Game Builder Garage
.The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
.The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
.New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
.Pokemon Scarlet
.Pokemon Violet
.Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
.Super Mario Odyssey
@Jeronan Oh man, that really blows … Maybe it's an option to order from a retailer in a different EU country? Shipping can't be more than the 200+ Euros price difference …
@Mr_Wolf12000 the price was available on their website immediately after the direct ended. It aired around the globe and many countries have different prices. How have they not been upfront with the pricing?
No problem per-ordering in Germany right now (e.g. mediamarkt.de or otto.de). Maybe interesting for some in the EU or UK … don‘t know about shipping or import tax/conversion rate to the UK though. Got my order in 2 days ago as I didn‘t want to risk not getting an invite from Nintendo. Good luck to everyone still trying to grab one!
It seems the original designer of his DKC look is himself in favor of the remodel: (via Polygon) “Unfortunately, when I designed him, because he basically had Battletoad eyes, it [was] hard to give Donkey Kong any expression other than ‘annoyed,’” Bayliss explained via X (formerly Twitter) on Jan. 25. “This is something I take a little more into consideration when creating characters today!”
Really like the new design. Reminds me of the drawings in the old "Club Nintendo" Magazines in the early 90s. The more relaxed baseline expression will allow for more expressiveness overall. Funny enough, there was an article over on polygon a few days ago about "Angry Kirby" and how in the 90s and 2000s they gave the pink fluffball a much more fierce and determined expression in marketing him to American boys. They have dialed this back since and maybe DK just follows suit and Nintendo returns to its original designs …
Been looking forward to this and wanted to get it for Christmas … then it got delayed and now Switch 2 is coming which will eat up all my gaming funds for the year. But think i‘ll get it anyways, it does look lovely!
@-wc- Concerning tate mode: I just hope there will be an official flip-grip this time around. Though not an official product, having this option on the current switch makes the joycons absolutely worth it – for me at least. Tabletop mode on the other hand I only used once or twice for especially tricky game sections. Needed to use the pro controller and was to lazy to fire up the home theatre for docked play. Also, the magnet solution (as long as they are strong enough and/or combined with a locking mechanism) together with how far the connecting parts reach into the main body, should help make it a lot more solid than the wiggly rails we have now. I would be really surprised if not – after all Nintendos R&D had eight years to get this right …
