Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Might Already Be Teasing More Switch 2 Games

@Medic_alert I agree with you that it‘s difficult to blame 3rd parties, when prices for the new carts are taking such a bite out of their revenue. I was just pointing out that whatever decision Nintendo could have made, it would always have resulted in an outcry anyways. I just don‘t think there must always be someone to blame. Put it on circumstance and the shape that the industry has grown into … through the companies, the game developers and their works, the consumers and their demands. ✌️

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Might Already Be Teasing More Switch 2 Games

@Medic_alert Yes, it‘s most definitely the price that is keeping many from releasing full games on carts. But there was also no right decision that Nintendo could have made: Old carts = slow speeds and long load times, limited capacity; different medium = compromised backwards compatibilty and portability; digital only with bigger SSD = no more physical + increased hardware price. No win scenario and a guaranteed outcry either way …

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd May)

jfp

Maybe some Mario Kart 8 and/or Kirbys Dream Buffet with my girlfriend in the evening. Apart from that likely only short bursts of Star of Providence, Devastator, Tetris99 … I won‘t be starting anything substantial before my Switch 2 arrives. Just building up the anticipation.
Happy gaming!

Re: ICYMI: 12 Switch Games Will Receive Free Switch 2 Upgrades

jfp

While it‘s of course possible that the Mario games only get added Gameshare functionality, I would say it‘s rather likely the get a visual/performance boost too. After all Mario is their evergreen flagship franchise and they will want to have him look his best on the new S2.

@8bit-Man The two Zeldas definitely improve framerate and resolution. Gameplay footage of Echoes, though only a snippet, was visible in one of Nintendo‘s videos about Gamechat. But if you consider their unstable framerate game breaking then yes, it‘s a patch to make them playable. 😉

Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Accessories, And Games Worldwide

jfp

@Ulysses Yes, I can only imagine. Came back to gaming about two and a half years ago. So late in the Switchs‘ lifecycle and with all the sales going on it was like drinking from a firehose, certainly not what I was used to back in the day (Gamecube days). With Switch2 only at the start of it‘s lifecycle I‘m planning to go ahead a little more mindful and mostly getting games I‘m quite certain I will finish – a pattern of what those will be has clearly emerged.

@betterman In Germany, you are well paid and as you are state employed it is almost impossible to get fired. I think it’s similar in some Scandinavian countries … but yes, I am aware that it is globally far from the norm.
Edit: Just looked it up, in Germany it‘s on average like $70K annually (primary school starting salary).

Re: Video: Nintendo Shares More Footage Of Zelda: Wind Waker For Switch Online

@OldGamer999 The Gamecube app is for playing original Gamecube games, not for playing ported versions. It was 4:3 aspect ratio on the Cube, so nothing lazy about it. This is also the only version of the game I played and that I want to revisit in it‘s original form. Will you expect original Gameboy games in widescreen next?

Re: Nintendo Confirms Upgrade Pack Price For More 'Switch 2 Edition' Titles

jfp

@DanElectrode It (almost certainly) won't be an upgrade pack. They said as much in their "creator's voice" video on the Nintendo webpage. That's because the game is not based off of the Switch1 version, but is instead a port of the "full fat" version that came out on other systems. Really glad I didn't bite at a recent sale …

Re: Street Fighter 6 Releasing Final 'Year 2' Fighter Alongside Switch 2 Game Launch

jfp

@rvcolem1 It's not just you. For a few rounds here and there with friends, while fun, full price at 60 bucks seems quite steep. Single player campaigns in fighters don't keep me around for long. This game looks really nice and shiny though (perhaps the Switch2 novelty factor?) so maybe I'll start with the digital base version at 40 … but only maybe.

Re: Fast Fusion Price On Switch 2 Puts Welcome Tour To Shame

jfp

@the_beaver It‘s on the web version of Switch eShop (at least in EU). Simply buy as usual and check off that you know it‘s for a system you do not currently own. Should then be added automatically once you connect Switch2 to your account. Support Shin’en!

Re: Nintendo Confirms Upgrade Pack Price For More 'Switch 2 Edition' Titles

jfp

@NintendoWife It appears to be a whole campaign, with the previously existing worlds transformed by a meteor … on the NintendoToday app they showcased impressions of the start of two levels. If this will translate to all of the levels though I do not know. But even the postgame campaign in that game was pretty expansive imo.

Edit: judging by the number of falling meteors in the intro though, there should be quite a lot of worlds in the upgrade campaign. Well, that's if the intro is anything to go by.

Re: Fast Fusion's Switch 2 Performance And Resolution Detailed

jfp

@the_beaver For a small studio like them it's really essential to get the game out at launch. Not much competition – especially in the 20–30 $ price range they are probably targeting. The fewer options there are, the more people will jump on it to fill their starting line up. 120 fps will be really an afterthought in that situation …

Edit: with the now announced price of only 14,99 € this game will sell like crazy!

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

jfp

@Dr_Lugae Agree 100%. And what people seem to forget, this is a new console generation not a subscription service. You are free to join and you can also just walk away. No contract binding you, no one is screwing you over. And @Saints: you write you‘ve been playing MK8 for over a decade. What price tag would you put on playing something for a decade? How much do you spend for 2hrs at the movies?

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

jfp

@Saints Well that‘s the point of being a consumer, you should vote with your money and support who you deem supportable. Nobody is forcing you. Go get Game-Pass or something like that. Wherever possible I try to support creators and companys I like directly and individually rather than going for streaming and mass blowouts. But you do you!
Edit: and well, that‘s another thing I‘m on both sides, I‘m a consumer and a creator. I expect to pay for value I receive and I expect to be payed for value I create.

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

jfp

@Saints On the whole gaming (on the consumer side) has never been cheaper with constant sales going on/expected, while the perception of value is on the decline. At the same time much of the industry is in kind of a crisis with massive layoffs. Do you really think Nintendo not devaluing their IP and pricing according to market is bad? Would you prefer Nintendo going full on Ubisoft firing whole teams when games do not perform because people are trained by them to only buy on sale? There is a reason they are well off atm while others are struggling to stay relevant.
