Re: Community: Nintendo Life Staff's Non-Game Highlights Of 2023

This year marks the 20th anniversary of 3 of my favourite albums. Linkin Park - Meteora, Evanescence - Fallen and Muse - Absolution.

They all got anniversary editions released with additional CDs featuring demos, a few alternate versions and live recordings of tracks. The Muse album came with a book telling the story of the albums creation with input from the band members and producer.

I also saw Makoto Shinkai film Suzume at the cinema. I really enjoyed it. I would rank it alongside Your Name. The blu ray special edition and steel book have recently gone live for preorder.

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

I think Super Nintendo Kart is the way to go. It opens up so many possibilities for track design and items. Courses from Kirby’s Dreamland, Metroid and Zelda. Imagine racing around death mountain or an alien planet from Metroid.
Otherwise if they release another Mario Kart then they’ll need to drastically change the gameplay. Introduce something so different so it feels fresh.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 23rd)

I’ll be playing Horizon Chase 2.
Important note.
A prompt appears saying you need an Epic account to continue. Press B to close, but when you press any button on the title screen the prompt appears again.
When you press B for the second time you are taken to the mode select screen, so can play without the account.

Otherwise it’s a good high speed racing game. Still satisfying as you weave between cars climbing the ranks.

Re: Feature: Digital Doppelgangers - Home Vs. Handheld Adaptations In The 2000s

On the Disney collection by Digital Eclipse, the GameBoy Aladdin is like the Mega Drive version extremely scaled down and isn’t very good.
As opposed to building the game from the ground up, tailored to the hardware, resulting in good alternatives. Like the GB versions of Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country and the Ninja Turtles games with their altered titles.
You end up with a good selection of different games for anniversary collections.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

Some nice surprises but a lot of big hitters have already been confirmed. Mario Bros. Wonder, Metal Gear, Batman Arkham, Prince of Persia among others. I think that lessened the impact of the showcase. A lot of big games are on the way.
Also a lot of remasters were announced but still welcome releases. I’d like to try Another Code. I didn’t play the initial release.

I think this is also a sign of winding down for the next hardware release

Re: Video: The 'Fake Game Boy' That Costs $10 And Contains 200 Games

When I was younger, back in the 90s, my parents bought me a TV Boy. It was just a game pad / controller by itself that connected to the TV with an RF cable. It had 126 built-in games. The product seemed legitimate. There were no TV or movie related IP. They were all Atari games. There was a version of Donkey Kong where the Jump Man sprite was coloured brown below the head. No dungarees.

Edit: I did a google search and found the product https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Boy

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The June 2023 Nintendo Direct

A new 2D or 3D Mario would be awesome.
So much retro content has been released over the years I can’t think of anything in particular. Past Mortal Kombat games are more likely to be a 3rd party announcement. Unless they’re made available on NSO.

I don’t think there should be rush for the next console given the popularity of the Switch, but it has been on the market for 6+ years. Even if new hardware is planned for next year it’s probably best to announce it late 23 / early 24.
