I’m up to the final boss on Metroid Dread. What I hope is the final form is proving difficult. Once this is done I will finally start Axiom Verge 2. Will spend some time with Zelda Skyward Sword and Game & Watch.
DC fighter Injustice 2 and Batman Arkham Knight. I’d love to see these on Switch. Both series have previous entries on the Wii U. Quite recent examples that maybe could still appear?
Hard to think of anything from past generations as there’s been quite a few that have made it onto the Switch. FF 7, RE 5 among plenty of others.
It makes sense. Getting much more heavy with 3rd party content. It could mean there are a lot more rarer games on the way. That would definitely justify the price more, with games that are newly available on a more accessible platform like the recently released Gley Lancer. People may be reluctant to jump on board with the initial selection of games.
Metroid Dread should be arriving today from Nintendo UK store. Normally arrives on launch date, but not this time. I’ve started Zelda Skyward Sword using the improved motion controls. Read the review of the new Tetris game so I’ll give that a go a well.
@Pod I wonder as well, what percentage of joy-cons sold, have had the drift problem. Even it it is a small number, of course it’s still unacceptable. It’s a curious issue where it doesn’t happen to all of them. With other analogue stick controllers with no drift issue, shouldn’t it be easy to fix? Really could do with more information.
Even if not under the Sega Ages banner, it’s good to see another Mega Drive game for a similar price. Keep em coming. Games from any Sega console are welcome.
I got Sonic Colours on cart so will be playing that. Never played the original. There’s Doom Eternal DLC and I’ve heard lot’s of good things about Eastward so will purchase that.
The N64 had first party controllers of various colours. I remember blue, black, yellow, red and green. I don’t suppose they would release this new Switch controller in these colours. Not likely, but would be nice to see.
That’s credible enough for me. I am hoping for news on Bayonetta 3 what with it being a long time coming. Tonight’s Direct could be what Nintendo have been holding out for. I think it’s a likely showing.
I bought Cruise n Blast digitally as it was only around 4 gb and I need to cut down on physical games. It is an excellent game and I’d like to see it higher up on that list.
Games of certain IP do stand out as missing amongst all other retro titles made available. It would be nice to have a Turtles collection on par with Konami’s Castlevania collection which could also feature games from the same consoles. Gameboy, NES, SNES etc.
Some of the classics are based on Disney IP or other TV / films. It would be good to see more of these games available to buy. Surely it would only benefit the companies associated with them.
I’ll wait for the review but looks very promising. I read the recent interview. Hot wheels unleashed is the other racing game out next month, at the end. Will be interesting to see how they measure up.
@Ooyah @Clyde_Radcliffe The YouTube video isn’t available but you can probably stream it somewhere. There was also a Tetris type A single done in similar fashion. I do have that cassette tape packed away somewhere.
The Mario Land 1-1 theme was released as a single. I think it was like a dance track remix. My cousin got it on cassette tape. I think it made the charts here in the UK. Too long ago. Anyway, a good selection in the article.
I’ve completed the second Ori game so will make a start on the Doom Eternal DLC. I have both parts. Hit quite the difficulty spike with the warm climate hospitals in Two Point Hospital. I managed to get 1 star on all of them in the end. Will continue with the big city sites before trying the DLC content.
When you look back, early games / consoles do have more meaningful value. When you consider the impact they had on the industry. Also looking at what the industry has become, where it all started. The history is just as interesting as film for example, especially when you consider the progression of technology. I think it’s a good idea to have preservations and exhibitions people can visit.
I got the physical copy with the reverse Mega Drive cover. An excellent return to form for 2D Sonic. I’ve never tried the 3D games but will give Sonic Colours a try if it reviews well. The Wii version got a good review, so I guess it’s likely. Bring on the origins collection.
The author of that book needs to realise that as a parent it’s their responsibility to make sure their son isn’t spending too much time playing Fortnite. They provided their son with the device with which they access it.
My brother and I got a Game Boy each for Christmas, then the NES followed. The GB was bundled with Tetris but we were allowed an additional game. They were Turtles Fall of the foot clan and Super Mario Land.
I think certain software will still lead to sales increases like Animal Crossing did. We should still see a balance of rises and falls rather than just a downwards trend from here.
I think standard rereleases of the three games would be more than enough. I never knew about Illusion of Gaia and Soul Blazer at the time. Maybe include them on a cartridge with bonus material. However, if they just rerelease Terranigma, that will do.
@EriXz I see what you mean when you look at it as another game that was cancelled. It’s that this was a planned sequel to a popular RPG on the SNES. The fascination is with what could have been, given the brilliance of its predecessor, and what were the factors that led to it being cancelled. Likewise, if say, a previously unreleased Batman game was found by a veteran like Capcom. With 3D combat similar to the Arkham games.
I’ll be continuing Ori Will of the whisps and Two point hospital. Also have some short sessions on the Mega Drive mini. I did pick up Skyward Sword. I originally played on Wii with the gold remote plus. I’ll wait to finish some other games before starting this.
I have Robocop 2 on the NES. I think Ocean were the developers. It’s a run n’ gun platformer. It was too difficult for me at the time. Not sure how I’d fare now. The physics made things difficult especially in those sewer sections. Very slippery terrain. But I kept going back to it because I liked playing as Robocop and shooting the villains. I was too young for the films but I loved the character. If it appeared on the Switch online service I would definitely try and best it.
It’s worth bearing in mind that the Switch is still a powerful HD console in it’s own right. It’s not purely about next-gen PS / Xbox games being ported. There are plenty of stunning titles on the way. Also, games designed specifically for the switch can have good graphics and performance like Astral Chain. I think it’s hard to be disappointed at the lack of upgraded power.
It reminds me of Darksiders Genesis with the mix of close and ranged combat. Maybe with more depth to the RPG elements. It looks very promising. I’ll follow the updates on this one.
I got mine with Lylat Wars + rumble pack. I was blown away by the cinematic intro. Impressive 3D graphics, a good step above what was capable on other console platforms at the time. At least before the Sega Dreamcast.
Given N64 games have appeared on Virtual Console, I think they will appear on Switch online eventually. I would prefer a miniature console though.
Still enjoying Ori and the will of the wisps. Returning to Age of Calamity for DLC. Played it a bit already and there’s a ton of new content to get stuck into.
I was expecting the brilliant show that it was, but possibly more surprising that it was that good, given the pandemic. Maybe it affected the new Zelda sequel more than others. That’s definitely a game you’d need everyone in the office for.
Fire girl looks good. Lots of depth and variety of levels. I like the rebuild aspect as well. Akatori and Black Book also look very interesting. Just those three for me.
I’d love for this to come to Switch. I only played it briefly in an arcade. Is the game in the question Simpsons vs The World? I still have a lot of the 2 episode videos and the games on various platforms were advertised at the beginning. I think they were all on consoles.
I received one of these today. Never played Fortnite or used the Epic games store. However, I bought my Ori games box set from the iam8bit store, so maybe there has been some passing on of personal details.
I’ve seen the blu ray feature that documents the making of the film. An indie film focused on the characters of Mario and Luigi which ran out of money. Once a big studio got involved to save it, they had their own ideas as to what the movie should be and radically changed it. The actors speak of a moment when they realised things had taken a turn for the worse.
It’s a shame the original film wasn’t realised. I also enjoyed what the film ended up being as a kid. It just hasn’t aged as well as others.
It’s still good to watch once in a while. I’m interested in seeing the deleted scenes. Maybe they’ll be included on another retail release.
@Jamie64326 cool. Specifically, it’s the green blade throwing enemies and the red crabs with the extending spike arms. To me it seems like some unfair placements which make the attacks difficult to avoid. Not so bad, but my least favourite. One of favourite games from the 16-bit era. Eagerly awaiting the origin release next year for the other games.
Oil ocean and the metropolis zones are my least favourite. Due to difficulty and soundtrack. All the other zones are much stronger so there’s a lot to enjoy.
ALBW was a big series highlight for me. Like Majora’s Mask and Skyward Sword changed things up after their predecessors, Breath of the Wild 2 is sure to do the same. I can’t wait to see to what extent this done. How much of a game changer it will be.
I wonder if the infrared joy-con could also replicate the light gun functionality. Could open up doors to other arcade classics. Time Crisis, Virtua Cop etc.
@Damo that’s cool. It’s easy to assume things like that are inspired by past 2d gameplay but it’s great that there’s so much to be taken from stories / history. Should be an interesting game.
I like the art style and it looks like the game has some depth, maybe beyond the combat system as well. Added bonus for having a train and mine cart levels.
Due to the former Rare devs that worked on Time Splitters they did feel like technical / spiritual successors to Perfect Dark. They even had the same coloured health / armour bars from Goldeneye. While there may be a different team working under the company co founders it will be interesting to see what new gameplay mechanics will be introduced. Be that from other FPS games or original.
@Donutsavant they are beautiful games. While I’ve just begun will of the whisps, I like the gameplay changes so far, for attacks and skills. There are some lovely wallpapers for mobile and desktop on the official site if you haven’t checked already.
Hypnospace outlaw was on 50% sale so I picked that up during the week. Not sure if it still is. Gunlord X is currently on 50% sale which puts it under a fiver so will pick this up as well. I now have the dragon form on Monster Boy cursed kingdom. Will finish this first before putting more time into Will of the whisps.
I’ve been reading the Untold History of Japanese Game Developers books and there’s a lot of games discussed on various PCs. PC-88, PC-9801 and the referenced Sharp among others. I didn’t know about these models and that there were so many games for them. I thought games of that era were predominantly on arcade and dedicated home consoles. Would be nice to see other titles that were exclusive to these computers.

That looks amazing. I think the visor is the most impressive part. I wonder how well Metroid is known on the surface compared to Mario and Zelda.
