@Brodieman it’s a very good FPS. In the beginning you have to make use of an infinite throwing knife to reserve ammo for your pistol but stick with it. You soon find more weapons. They are satisfying to use and the upgrades are well done. The sets of levels are very diverse. You have medieval, Arctic, Egyptian among others. If your a fan of the genre and retro style graphics I highly recommend.
There is a minor glitch. When standing on the small elevators you hit the switch on the back wall to make it go up. Problem is, there are other switches on walls that reveal hidden enemies. So you hit a switch, step back turn around only to realise you were standing on an elevator. Elevators can’t be lowered back down so you have to restart the level to reach the area it takes you to, so you can complete the level. I’ve played through a lot of the game and have only encountered this twice. In other cases the level design is more clear that your standing on a lift. Otherwise it’s a great game.
I’ve seen the developer has been made aware via message board so hopefully will be patched soon
I played and completed Zelda 2 on the Wii having never completed the original on the NES due to the difficulty. It’s a good entry in the series and would benefit from a Wonder Boy style remaster.
I’d like to see the whole list of games before buying. Given the third party offerings on previous mini consoles, it will be interesting to see if there are any for this console. Any of the Mortal Kombat arcade games would be a good inclusion.
Road Redemption is a good game. Spiritual successor to Road Rash. This site scored it 8/10
You purchase upgrades to help you along your run but if you die all is lost. However, the experience gained is used to unlock permanent upgrades from a skill tree.
I still have my N64 cartridge. One of the best adventure games I’ve ever played. It had the collectathon element as well with 150 dark souls to find. It was also on PC and Dreamcast. I take it it’s the improved graphics from those versions that will be built upon.
Even if it isn’t a Dreamcast 2 it could still be a new dedicated Sega console. That would shake up the industry with 4 big competitors in the console market. Preferably without partnering with Microsoft or another rival company. If Sega is to come back into the hardware arena, then it should be alone, as they were before. The exception being partnerships for certain parts of the console, like Nintendo and NVidia for the graphics chip. I look forward to hearing the news.
I’d like an Earthworm Jim 3. The mega drive games already had the hand drawn graphical style with fluid animation. The second game had diverse gameplay, run and gun, salamander and rocket ship levels etc. So there’s lots of scope for what they could do with a new entry.
I know Earthworm Jim isn’t a Sega IP but if the developers got the rights to do it I think it would be a good revival.
@Dragonslacker1 couldn’t agree more. Especially the rock and roll part. With Sony and Microsoft it’s just the same power house every time except with improved specs, so developers will continue to throw the same games at it. Like they have to play it safe. Maybe that comes from never having their own software that’s as strong as Nintendo’s.
Trials of mana is quite addictive, and I finally got back to the mummy demastered. Coming to the end. I bought Steamworld quest and Road redemption on that recent sale (40% and 50% off).
I’d love to see another Kid Icarus game. I was anticipating a release on the Wii U but probably for the best it didn’t happen given the success of the Switch, it would be the better platform. On the subject of 3DS games I’d also like a sequel to Kirby planet robobot with expanded mech play. Kid Icarus first though.
@DrDaisy I loved Mickey Mania on the Mega Drive. It was difficult but was maybe the best looking game on the console. It was a great idea to play through the past cartoons. I haven’t played it in years but remember it well. Perhaps it could benefit from some modern updates including balancing difficulty. I would buy it for the switch.
I played the Mega Drive version of Aladdin back in the day. There was a level skip cheat. Pause the game and press ABBA ABBA. Not sure if you had to hit start again. Wonder if this is still included. This release will be a nice trip down memory lane.
Not sure how many of their staff members worked on Killer Instinct but a one on one fighter would be interesting. Maybe with a tag element that’s used in other beat em ups. Although there are a lot of that genre on Switch. Maybe a first person shooter.
Only the episode with Simon falling in love with mother brain rings a bell. I think it also feature that song “nice day for a white wedding” not sure if that’s the title. Great cartoon.
I bought the physical copy on Switch so the initial patch was already available. I’ve been playing it since and it’s ran just fine. If you already have a copy I would recommend giving it a go.
@Zuljaras no problem if this hasn’t been clear, just in case, your initial comment sounds like you think Aspergers is responsible for / the cause of aggressive behaviour. It isn’t. That’s all. Just need to be careful how some things come across.
The drift issue on previous consoles occurred when the analogue stick was held in a direction before and while the console was turned on. Is it possible users are doing this, not knowing the effect? The analogue stick should be in neutral position as the console is switched on.
@Nerdfather1 that’s true. A lot of people on the internet love to hate things and go over the top with extreme criticism or just plain abuse and will maintain that regardless. In this case though there is some fair criticism in the appearance of Sonic. It’s good of the people involved with the film to note that and make a cosmetic change to make Sonic look more like he does in the games.
F Zero X is the best game. I preferred the soundtrack and the physics. I agree that although different, GX was still well designed. Fond memories of the magazines. I would buy 2 mags a month, N64 and ONM.
I’d like to see DC beat em up injustice 2. With MK 11 on the way hopefully more chance of this happening. Past MK games would be welcome either in the form of SEGA ages range or the arcade collection.
I will also play my SNES classic for nice memories of the past but I also have the Switch Mega Drive collection to play as well. Plus Smash Bros Ultimate.
I have the N64 version. It also included additional content. It had a brown folder called ‘Ex files’ where additional files were stored. These included a file found in the STARS office which was a report on the events of RE Zero from Rebecca. Zero was originally planned for N64.
I got the Sega Mega Drive 2 bundled with Sonic 2 one Christmas. Enjoyed some great games including Mickey Mania, Micro Machines 96 with track editor, point and click Cosmic Space Head, Toejam and Earl and many more. Looking forward to the mini console. I hope it will include Mortal Kombat 1 and 2.
@Quarth same here. Got a lot of the games you mentioned there. Some I haven’t started yet. Finishing Hollow Knight at the moment. Of course the games being that huge and grand is a part of what makes them great. Is part the reason for their critical acclaim, but there are so many gems like that that are worth playing. Good for the Switch, glad to see it, but difficult to find the time to experience them all, or just some of them.
I think Zelda 2 was a great entry in the series. It was an enjoyable game to play through. All that would need to be tweaked is the unforgiving difficulty. It would be good if it got the wonder boy treatment, being able to switch between modern and original sound and graphics on the fly.
It’s easy to think that there isn’t much more that can be done with this series but there may be a new take on the formula which could justify MK 9. If not then I’m fine with DLC for 8 in the form of new tracks.
If MK 9 isn’t possible then they could always make Super Nintendo Kart. I think this idear may have been mentioned on this site before, regarding the inclusion of Link in 8. There would be lots of course possibilities from different IPs. Kirby, Metroid etc.
I’ll be picking this up as it has done well on other platforms it’s likely to review well. It looks like the developers may be fans of Terminator 2. The way the shotgun is spun around in between shots and the grenade launcher looks like the same model from the reload animation.
@BanjoPickles Zelda 2 was also my first Zelda experience and I love it. I never did complete it when I was younger due to the difficulty but I liked the big over world with secrets. It was great to download it for the Wii years later and complete it. I think people are too harsh on it, although I understand as it was very difficult. I’d welcome a Wonder Boy style remake.
@NIN10DOXD yeah it helps to have an interesting mode that gets you playing because there’s many things to unlock as you go. It’s always an epic moment when you suddenly get the silhouette ‘challenger approaching’ screen.
I hope the new Smash Bros has some new game modes including a single player / co-op campaign like Brawl. Playing through the Wii U game became a bit of chore, going through the same modes over and over with different characters to unlock trophies etc. Looking forward to what the new entry has to offer.
Sega and Nintendo have the more enticing libraries from their past consoles. Even if not under the VC banner, so long as their past titles get released. It is nice to see other platforms like Neo Geo with their own gems to experience. I hope there is a wide selection from Sega and Nintendo as there was with the Wii VC service. Maybe another company will port PC Engine releases.
I bought the physical copy on Wii U. I’ve not bought spectre of tourment and won’t be buying the next campaign only in case a physical version is released with all DLC included. I did enjoy the game on Wii U. It’s retro style is perfectly done.
@SirWalrus fair comment but I’ve played online and offline and the gameplay experience was practically the same. Of course with that kind of game it’s better to play with other people.
@OorWullie @SirWalrus I didn’t say play exclusively offline. I said that there is a good gameplay experience to be had offline as well as being good to play online.
@RetroGamerAndrew I wasn’t sure about this game at first but ended up buying it. I also tend to play more offline. It’s good to play online but there is an offline season mode as well as other match types. The AI is good enough so you still get the same experience and fun of the game as you do playing online.
I only ever rented the original on the Mega Drive and didn’t get very far. I was impressed by the intro and graphics. It played similar to games like Prince of Persia. Would love to get this version and play it to the end.
I had an Atari XE with joystick, keyboard and cassette tape player. It also took cartridges. Moon Patrol was one of the games I had. The pixel art looked different and was different colours. I’ll be picking that one up.
This a ridiculous arguement. There has always been violence in the world before video games existed. There is still violence now for the same reasons. Of course the games, films and music have nothing to do with it. It’s sad that some people think otherwise. The real reasons / problems are being ignored.
Hopefully this is a new entry and not a Wii U port. Either way I hope there is a 1 player campaign like the sub space emissary from Brawl. On the Wii U entry, playing the same game modes over and over to unlock everything became a chore. Having a solo campaign would keep things interesting.
@Ryu_Niiyama me to. I love Streets of Rage on the Megadrive. I hope they pay homage to the soundtrack of that particular series as well. I have Wulver Blade but it’ll be good to have a modern setting more in the style seen during the 16-bit era.
I had to get the bus to Basildon for Toys R’ Us. They had a massive selection of games. It’s a huge property with high a ceiling which made it more exciting to go there. However, it wasn’t my main go to store for games. I remember, I think it was called Future Zone which may have become Electronics Boutique in Basildon and Southend on Sea.
