Re: Talking Point: Does Sega's AGES Announcement Mean The Virtual Console Is Dead?

gb_nes_gamer

Sega and Nintendo have the more enticing libraries from their past consoles. Even if not under the VC banner, so long as their past titles get released. It is nice to see other platforms like Neo Geo with their own gems to experience. I hope there is a wide selection from Sega and Nintendo as there was with the Wii VC service. Maybe another company will port PC Engine releases.

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

I had to get the bus to Basildon for Toys R’ Us. They had a massive selection of games. It’s a huge property with high a ceiling which made it more exciting to go there. However, it wasn’t my main go to store for games. I remember, I think it was called Future Zone which may have become Electronics Boutique in Basildon and Southend on Sea. Southend also had Keddies where I bought my first megadrive games. There always seemed to be multiple options for games but Toys R’ Us were certainly a big player.
It was an exciting experience to pick up a new game from a store and read the case / manual on the way home.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

gb_nes_gamer

People who were writing off Nintendo, saying then should just make games, don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s as if they were completely ignoring Nintendo’s history and everything else about it. Simply looking at the fact that PS 4 and Xbox were doing better, and that’s it. Given everything about Nintendo, after how the Wii U fared, a comeback was inevitable. While it wasn’t a given that the Switch would do so well, it’s success isn’t so surprising.

Re: Aonuma Wants to Keep Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Freedom in Future Games

A more populated world with several towns, each with their own culture would be a good change of pace. With horse and carriages / chariot as transport. To add to the scope they could use the dark world or alternate reality, not necessarily dark or worse off. If this would be too big, then the alternate reality could be restricted to only certain parts of the map. It would still provide even more land to explore.

Re: Feature: Video Game Ghosts Of Christmas Past

Christmas of 90 my brother and I got a Gameboy each. Bundled with Tetris we had some 2 player games but more time was spent on our additional games. Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (mine) and Super Mario Land ( my brothers). We always shared games so we completed both. Later Christmas years would see the NES followed by the SNES and Megadrive 2. Wonderful memories of simpler times.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

gb_nes_gamer

Some of the 3D Zelda elements listed missing, if included may have made the game feel too familiar. There would be the complaint of “it’s too much like every other game before it”. I think BOTW strikes a good balance of new ideas with story / characters where it still feels like a Zelda game dispite its differences. This is the way to keep a franchise fresh and interesting. Unfortunately it means having to loose some fan favourite elements but there are other ways in which the game can be rooted to the series. Whereby it’s still distinctively a Zelda game.

A highlight for me was the Devine beasts. That they got easier as you got through them, having acquired more hearts and weapons was the feeling of progression and the character becoming stronger. This may be affected by the order in which they are tackled. The boss at the end was still challenging.

Re: DOOM Confirmed for Nintendo Switch Launch on 10th November

A great interview. Looking forward to Doom. Not played a first person shooter since the Goldeneye re-imagining on Wii. There’s not necessarily much scope for gameplay expansion in that kind of genre. It’s good that there are much more interesting games available in terms of gameplay.
I love that an FPS like Doom can be released and the developers can say there is nothing like it on the console. A refreshing return to the genre.

Re: Review: Axiom Verge (Switch eShop)

I played this on Wii U but never finished it due to other games that I wanted to finish. Then I got The Switch with Zelda.
I have the multi verse edition preordered. It's worth double dipping for the extras that come with it. This time I'll complete it.
