Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th July)

I've been introducing the classics to my four-year-old and three-year-old, so we'll continue playing Super Mario 64 and perhaps Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (for the SNES; the GBA remake is zoomed in too close to play comfortably), as they both like Yoshi. Throw in some casual rounds of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and you have yourself a great gaming weekend with the kids.

Still enjoying Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my three-year-old daughter and four-year-old son, who in turn have discovered the joy of being mean in Untitled Goose Game, inspiring me to replay it as well as I haven't finished all the tasks yet.

Also hoping to get a physical copy of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury soon, another game my kids have been intently eyeing. Better late than never, I guess.

@Shredderlovespizza Perhaps an analogy would work then: a four-foot wimp decides to slap a seven-foot muscle-bound brute in the face just for the heck of it.

Can he do it? Sure.
Is he forced to do it? No.
Can the brute just slap him back? Yes.
Can the brute retaliate tenfold? Also yes.
If so, can the wimp suddenly cry foul and complain the retaliation was too much? Sure, not that that would help since he brought it upon himself.

An imperfect analogy (as they all are), but if that doesn't do it then I wish you a good day and pray you don't commit any crimes.

@Shredderlovespizza Lack of empathy? On the contrary, this is coming from a personal experience as a foolish lad back in the day.

Anyone who commits crime puts himself at the mercy of the law by default, regardless of how that law operates and how you may feel about it. The punishment could definitely be harsher than expected, but that's why you don't do crime to begin with. You've declined the right to complain about what's next the moment you decide to do something illegal.

@Shredderlovespizza This billion $ company just ruined a human's life for petty theft.

No, he put himself at the mercy of the full extent of the law. Nintendo wouldn't be able to do anything to him that the law didn't already allow.

He didn't kill anyone, nor ruin anyone else's life. He took from their bottom line such a small amount they likely would have never noticed it, if they ever did.

This is irrelevant, like saying only what we consider more heinous crimes should be punished. Crime deserves punishment.

Human life is short and sacred.

Apparently not for him, considering he used what precious time he has to do what he did, seemingly without thinking over the possible consequences of his actions.

The jail time should be plenty here, not financially ruining him forever.

This is unfortunately just opinion and ultimately up to the courts to decide.

Makes me seriously question why I support Nintendo after reading this.

This is your right. It should be considered, though, that Nintendo wouldn't be able to demand more than the court of law will allow. The former wanted to set an example but the latter was the one who said yes.

My point still stands. No one forced him at gunpoint to do what he did. He chose to do it despite the possible consequences, which he is now experiencing. Good on him to at least learn from his mistakes.

Just recently beat Bowser and rescued Peach in Super Mario Odyssey, so the game's been relegated to occasional amusement so I can hopefully resume the last chapters of Unicorn Overlord. Still distracted by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well as Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World on the SNES though, so I'm pretty much set for the weekend.

Juggling both the last chapters of Unicorn Overlord and Super Mario Odyssey, which I only recently got. Sprinkling in some local multiplayer sessions of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge as well. Glad my little ones are already learning to play simpler games, so their dad now has people to play with.

Re: Nintendo Discontinuing 'X' Integration On Switch Next Month

Let's all remember that free speech is a two-way street: the right to possibly offend but also to possibly be offended. It's the second part that a lot of people forget.

So it's now pricier to maintain an X connection for your gaming system. Makes sense Nintendo will choose to drop it considering it isn't an essential part of their system.
