Re: Mario History: Super Mario Kart - 1992

One of the best game ever made. MK64 was such a disappointment to me after this one. It was slow, empty, boring. Good thing the N64 had plenty other good arcade racers. Then Double Dash came and I found again the fun of SMK. It was as intense as the chariot race in Ben-Hur but with Mario.

Re: Exclusive: MercurySteam Has Been Working On A Metroid Prototype For Wii U And 3DS

@LeatherApron
Well it's possible a mediocre studio could do wonders with Nintendo's breath on their neck. There were many example in the past. But in the case of the LOS games, they just weren't Castlevania games. But it isn't really surprising because the Castlevania IP was artificially stamped on the game on Kojima's order. I doubt the people who made the game played a Castlevania game before showing the LOS prototype to Konami.
And the soundtrack was a disaster. Even if it would probably not be a problem for an outsourced Metroid game since Nintendo take very care of the musical aspect of their outsourced games.

@Caryslan
I don't see how the sales are relevant here. It's basically a Wii Sport effect.
The casuals who never played a Castlevania game before bought this game because it looked like a brown and bloom AAA game and the core audience bought it because it was written Castlevania on the box.
Then the casuals realized this game was mediocre and the core fanbase realized it wasn't a Castlevania game at all. Both audience didn't buy the following games. Franchise killed by LOS. Stop living in denial please.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

bitleman

Would be logical. Nintendo is a dwarf in this market. They can't follow the power race, which is basically a money war, since the Wii. They don't have an infinite wallet like Sony or Microsoft.
And if it's a hybrid handheld/home console, it won't have games drought problem since they will focus on one machine instead of two. Nintendo can survive without western third parties and few japanese third parties. They showed it with the 3DS

Re: Video: Here's a Brief, and Entertaining, History of Donkey Kong

bitleman

@TripleGamer3K

Let me explain you why the Donkey Kong Country series is so loved. It has a gameplay particularity that makes it very unique: the roll.
Rolling allow you to increase your speed and the amplitude of your jump. And the animation of the roll can be cancelled by a jump at any moment anywhere, even if you don't touch the ground.
Of course the game has other qualities such as the beautiful soundtracks and sets but this gameplay mechanic, which is basically a risk and reward system, is what make the DKC a unique series loved by platformers veterans. Because it give them the freedom to play in a very challenging manner.

Re: Veterans Of 3DS Title Xeodrifter Will Get The Upcoming Wii U Version For Free

bitleman

The european market is definitely less active than the US one. Miiverse is a good indicator of that.
There's also the harsh competition. Battle Miner is now the best selling game on 3DS in France. It's getting an excellent word of mouth marketing despite the bad reviews. It's also an online FPS. Considering the popularity of the genre and the fact there isn't any game like that on 3DS, the guy who made it is probably printing money right now.
It's weird because Xeodrifter is a good game but people focus too much on the flaws. While Battle Miner is a mediocre game but it is selling well for the little qualities it offers. Indie devs should try reverse psychology if they want to sell their games.

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

@Tender_Cutlet
When you can't recoup your cost it's called tanking in my book dude
Also sony confirmed through a Gio Corsi interview they're actively participating at the development through their third party studio that also developed RE Revelations 2 and Borderlands 2 on Vita. It's a shame to fund an AAA game through a kickstarter. It's not even debatable at this point. If any other big publisher did that the hate campain would be huge.

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

bitleman

People hyped for Shenmue 3 probably never played the previous entries. Those games are so slow and boring, with a lot of cinematics.They tanked for a good reason. If you haven't played them download a Dreamcast emulator and judge it by yourself.

Also funding an AAA game through kickstarter is shameful. Sony have no excuse. They're destroying the original kickstarter purpose and open the door for other big publishers

Re: Feature: Nintendo Franchises We Want to See at E3 - Kid Icarus

bitleman

People who complain about the controls are just bad at the game. Dual stick controls wouldn't work without needing to slow down the game and making it easier. Kid Icarus Uprising is a very fast game like Platinum or Treasure fast and the controls are perfect for the pacing. One of the best TPS ever made on a console.

Re: Project CARS Studio Boss Admits to Problems With Wii U Version, Hoping For Nintendo Hardware Announcement at E3

@noctowl

It's nothing. Really. Nintendo is way too small to compete on the power field against two juggernauts like Sony or Microsoft who can lose billions without feeling it. Nintendo couldn't even afford now the R&D for a system as powerful as the ps4 or the Xbox One.
Logic says the WiiU is their last home console and Nintendo will probably go out of the console business. This is how capitalism works. Big fishes eat small fishes. I enjoy my WiiU while it lasts because when Nintendo will drop out you can be sure a lot of videogames genre will disappear with them. Just as what happened with Sega. Remember when arcade games were major genres of consoles libraries? Then bam sony completely blew out Sega in one generation and dozens of Sega franchises disappeared.
Nintendo still have their own market so they still have the freedom to release a wild variety of games. They probably published games from 10 different franchises since the begining of this year. But when they will be third party they will do as everyone else and focus on one or two franchises only.
So enjoy it while it lasts because from there it will only goes worse.

Re: Feature: Go Fast - An Ode To The Glorious Chaos Of F-Zero

bitleman

Will never happen. Arcade racers are an irrelevant genre now. Look at the kickstarter of the Wipeout people, it only reached one stretch goal and it won't come on any console. Also Nintendo don't have the money or the workforce to make another one. GX cost them an arm and they still remember it. And everyone at Nintendo is probably working on Zelda or Starfox
