@Realnoize You do know videogames companies don't just make videogames to cover the cost but also to make profits right? And they can use these profits to develop the next games. Profits aren't an evil thing. The key of longevity is to keep a high symbolic price for your videogames so people know a good game is made by hard work. Nintendo has the lowest paid bosses of the industry and the longest average careers for their developers. We can't say the same about Sony's big studios who use the culture of crunch and huge turnover rate for their developers. That policy has a cost. It's up to the consumers to choose which industry they want.
@Whalehome Yeah but when they sell at low price it means someone else has to pay the price. And it's often the working condition of the developers who pay the price. Pay your games at a fair price if you want to keep the good developers in the industry.
@Alucard83 I fully agree with this logic. The thing I don't get is why hypocrites don't apply it for videogames. Why would I buy an old gen videogames like Yakuza or Persona when for the same price I can get a real next gen game like Spiderman or God of War that was made with real ambition and a team of over 200 developers?
@BigKing "B-BUT IT'S STYLIZED SO IT'S OK IF IT'S A GENERATION BEHIND!!!"
Lol so delusional. Feel good watching western AAA using 100% of the power of the PS4 crushing your japanese old gen garbage. Have fun living in your bubble while the rest of the industry move on.
@BigKing Compared to Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit Become Human, God of War, Spiderman, Shadow of Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Fifa 19, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us 2? Hell yes. I don't see how the logic you apply on hardware shouldn't apply on softwares. When you buy a japanese game you get less for your money because they're less budget and less work provided in those games, and it shows.
@BigKing I really don't see how nintendo games or any other japanese publishers games have better gameplay than the superior western AAA and how it would justify the fact they're a generation behind graphics wise. You sound like a delusional fanboy.
@BigKing "Nintendo has been a generation behind for over 10 years now."
"Oh but it's ok if Nintendo, Sega, Atlus, Platinum, Square, Capcom, Konami, Namco make generation behind games. They just appeal to a niche audience. As long as they appeal to me they're great and you can't compare them to actual next gen western AAA".
That's what the delusional fanboys respond when you call out the scam of their japanese garbage.
@Cobalt " I don't call a good emulator, an emulator that crop the games by 24 pixels in heigth, that brings a crappy CRT filter and that can be hacked at the launch date... Maybe you, but not me ! "
Well it's been developed by the NERD studio located in Paris. And I agree with you, nothing good come from France.
@Cobalt "So, you mean that Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 etc... are bad games then ?"
Yep that's exactly what I said. Nintendo and Sony die hards fanatics keep telling us japanese games are doing great but they really don't. The japanese industry is collapsing under the pressure of the superior american AAA Sony games. It's delicious to see the tears of delusional people like you complaining why there are so few japanese new releases and only ports. Well it's simple, the japanese industry is getting crushed by the superior american AAA games thanks to Sony taking control of the market.
@Cobalt Long sellers keep selling and bad games disappear from charts on all system. On PS4 and Switch GTA5 and Mariokart stay in the charts while Octopath traveller and Dragon Quest 11 dropped like flies.
If you want to be successful on a Nintendo system you need to take risk and give creative freedom to your game designer. It's a different market than the other. You can't release yearly sequels without adding something in the gameplay department.
@Razer RDR2 will not only impact the Switch, but also the whole japanese industry. How are you going to convince the average joe to buy a japanese videogame after RDR2? Games like Puyo Puyo vs Tetris or Persona 5 look ridiculous compared to RDR2. I don't see how the japanese industry could stop sinking under the competition of the western industry at this point. It's like watching Mike Tyson stomping Glass Joe on the ground.
@Cobalt It's just north korean propaganda style damage control. Reality is the japanese industry is dead and Nintendo's future is on mobiles. Their games budget are so low so couldn't even get a greenlight on PS4 and Xbox One.
@Cobalt And who will release those new games on the switch? The japanese industry is a walking zombie at this point, Nintendo has no one relevant to support them.
@BigKing Don't expect to see another 3DS vs Vita situation where another face of the industry could do well even on the less selling system. When Sony dominate the market they crush the industry with an iron fist and do their best to kill the competitors. Nintendo is still stuck in that hippy Iwata's mindset where all game makers are part of a big family and all games are good whatever the system they're on. Lol no wonder why Nintendo is becoming more and more irrelevant.
@Nincompoop Nintendo is the opposite of Apple. They're centered around being a content maker and don't follow a dictatorship of "cool". There's a videogame fanbase who loves to talk about the cool design of their consoles or their cool ads and it's not Nintendo's.
Meh. I prefer Monster Hunter to become a classical AAA franchise like what they did Monster Hunter World. With a AAA game I play it for one month then I get bored so I can play something else. The old school Monster Hunter games are too addictive. I play them for months and months and I miss a lot of other games during that time. That's not good for the videogames business.
@SwitchForce Why would Sony want to kill the Vita? It was the best system to sell japanese videogames. Why would Sony want to destroy the japanese industry?
@EightBitMan You're beating a dead horse dude. The japanese industry is dead and no one make videogames like Nintendo anymore with a team centered around a game designer, except in the independant scene. I really don't see the point to waste your energy to fight a battle you already won.
Really liked the previous one. Fast paced gameplay and the game didn't take you the controller away to show you boring scripts unlike a lot of modern AAA. These games fit very well on a handheld system.
@EightBitMan That's it. Sony has unleashed its army of drones to intensify the smear campain against Nintendo. And as usual it will hurts the sales of all japanese videogames. You want to support the japanese industry? Boycott Sony. They do their best to destroy the japanse industry by turning the industry into a pure battle of marketing budget of games made without any game designer.
@EightBitMan Yeah Smash Bros is a hommage to the golden age of the japanese industry, before Sony took over the market and destroyed the japanese industry by flooding the market with big budget western AAA without any game design work.
@Moroboshi876 But how many of these characters share the same models and moves. Smash has a lot of different characters even when you count out the clones.
@Agramonte It's just hard to get back to play a Yakuza game after I played the last God of War. My eyes burned watching all these old gen assets in the Sega game.
@Kokusho Modern games are less responsive and less fluid because they're centered around being online. And slower gameplay help to hide the lag. It's something that touched fighting games, sports games, racing games. It's not Sakurai fault if the whole industry has shifted.
@BigKing Yeah they had gameplay problems but they were varied and full of game design ideas through the game. Rare just had to pair with Nintendo to fix their gameplay problems.
@Menchi187 Yeah keep bashing Nintendo for their graphics while japanese market sales numbers keep hiiting new low over and over. Japanese developers can't say it openly but they hate sony fans for their toxic behavior which is hurtful for the whole japanese industry. It's time to boycott japanese games on PS4 until Sony stop this toxic strategy.
@Indielink Yeah but how you are going to convince the Sony fans to buy them after telling them for years Nintendo games are old gen garbage and graphics are super important? That would be a little bit hypocrite. It's sad Sony is doing everything they can to destroy the japanese industry. Sony is completely dominating the industry and the japanese market is crumbling. That's the result of their leader tactic.
@bolt05 Yeah the beginning of SMT4 is harsh but you can unlock an easy mode after dying twice. It's worth giving it another chance. It's a fantastic JRPG.
@KingdomHeartsFan Many Sony and Microsoft systems owners haven't played this game, as it flopped badly. We tend to prefer playing western AAA on these systems since you get more quality-value for your money spent with these kind of games.
@Octane So Disney have the right to modify the old Star Wars movies since they bought the IP from George Lucas right? Have fun trying to convince me videogames are an art when the creators have zero right over them. Only megacorps have. Also Miyamoto always watched closely all Mario games being made. All Mario series are directed by people who worked under Miyamoto direction.
@YummyHappyPills Sony is a control freak megacorp. When you make a game for Sony it becomes a Sony game and as the creator you have no right on it. That's why they can remake a game like Shadow of the Colossus with major changes without the need of Fumito Ueada's agreement.
35 billion dollars seem a bit pricey. Even if Fifa still make 1 billion per year. EA is still probably the most powerful publisher on the market. No one dare releasing a game in front of their yearly AAA during the last quarter.
