It seems Wii U owners have once again been excluded from the pack, with publisher Deep Silver revealing the recently announced US-only signature edition of Mighty No. 9 will only be made available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners.
The collectors edition deal – including a physical copy of the game, DLC, a foil signature and a posable Beck statue – was confirmed as coming exclusively to rival platforms via Twitter.
If you’re one of the many Nintendo fans who live in America and have been anticipating this release from Keiji Inafune's Comcept studio, let us know in the comments how you feel about this news.

They still haven't even confirmed whether or not backers - the people who made the project possible in the first place - will be able to upgrade to physical copies. So as it stands, for backers to get the signature edition, which appears to be the DEFINITIVE collector's edition of the game, we'd have to basically buy the game twice. This project gets more and more annoying week by week.
And mind you, the game was finished in December. Two months after it's beta was panned by everyone who got it. And that trailer from this week looks no better. All of this over what appears to a mediocre game.
Hideki Kimya was right. At this stage in his career, Keiji is a business man and nothing more. Hard to believe this man directed Mega Man 2, Mega Man X, Mega Man X4, and Mega Man Zero.
not surprising, this sort of thing always happens to nintendo consoles but can you blame them?
@r3mixi
Yes I can blame them. There is no excuse for it and no amount of justifying poopitypoopy third party decisions is going to justify it, so don't try.
@KillScottKill People that pledged $60 or more are getting physicals. I doubt anyone else will get a physical
I could laugh but this is expected of the Wii U now. This game just keeps getting more and more annoying with each piece of news that comes out.
@AugustusOxy I am both a Nintendo and Mega Man fan and even I can see the justification in the omission of a collectors (physical) edition release for the Wii U.
It isn't particularly great news however, Deep Silver probably came to the conclusion that there were more reasons in choosing the 'rival systems' (to have the collectors edition) over the Wii U, with market share being one of them.
Id question why, I don't think there is any doubt a wii u premium edition would sell, so why not include it? All it would need is a slightly different outer pack thats pretty much it all the contents would be the same
And a collective "meh" was heard throughout the lands.
Seems odd actually to leave the wiiu version out. You would think of all console fan bases the nintendo fan base would be the most interested in something like this. Whatever though I'm no business man maybe a wiiu special version would not be a good idea?
@r3mixi Actually yes. They had to see this coming if the offered this service as baker option. Some say that they couldn't handle it because of lack of money, but that would only mean that they can't household their founds.
I'm not even sure I want the game in the first place. I'll wait for a price drop, 30 bucks is too much for this game.
maybe... they're planning an amiibo edition for the wii u!
I just want the game, don't care about any of the other junks.
@AugustusOxy
You're aware that Nintendo also prevented you guys from getting special editions of Mario Kart and Hyrule Warriors, right? Try to keep that in mind when you attack third parties "because third parties."
@shinokami lol no. The only backers getting physicals are those that ordered the USB stick on reward on KS. Backers have to buy PS4/XBO/Wii U retail copies just like everyone else.
@KillScottKill Nop, $60 and up get physical game box with special cover. Also they have said in Q&A that its for system of choice.
@wishm that would be amazing! Mighty No9 Amiibo. I would buy them all. But would it happen.....?
I'm getting the physical copy for my WiiU as I don't really like DL games and also can see it will be worth a good bit in the future even without this statue. WiiU games will be like dreamcast games in the future, amazing and hard to find the best ones.
@Quorthon - that's completely irrelevant in this case. That's NOA doing something different to NOE; they're their own separate bodies who make their own decisions. This is a third party treating one region differently from another. And considering Megaman is well renowned for being on Nintendo systems, I can understand the dissatisfaction.
It's all a scheme to get nintendo fans to buy other systems! just be happy wii u gets the game at all and forget about the toy!
Boo-hoo.
I was only ever going to buy the Wii U eShop version anyway. I missed out on backing this game gutted. I read about it after the backing closing date had passed. Have since back Yooka Laylee and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night though.
Oh well $19.99 sounds like a much better deal anyway
you gotta be kidding me, it comes with like 3 figures and we dont get it? fudge, well i pretty much have to buy a ps4 for fallout 4 so whatever, guess ill make this a purchase for that too. well, if the reserves arent ALREADY all gone.
@shinokami Getting a commemorative box is not getting a physical copy of the game. Memorabilia is just memorabilia. Doesn't change the fact that backers aren't getting physical copies.
And yes, Deep Silver dropped the ball on not making the SE for Wii U. From what I was told, the game was selling the most pre-orders on PS4 and - you guessed it - WII U, because that's where Mega Man/retro/2D gamers are. People that like these types of games generally aren't Xbox owners, and yet for some reason, Deep Silver gives a SE to XBO and not Wii U because, hur dur, the XBO install base is larger than the Wii U's in the U.S.
Not only is it a US exclusive collector's edition (too many of those btw), but it's not even for the Wii U? Boo!
@readyletsgo it make sense right? why would they release a statues when they can release amiibos?
I like disc versions too! and as a ritual... I blow my discs before I put 'em in. Kiddin'!
@wishm lol good man yourself! Disc is just nice to have at the end of the day.
I doubt there will be Amiibo for this game, but, if there was, I'd be super happy and buy them.
Let's no forget all the PC,PS3,360, and handheld owners who are also screwed by this
It's Deep Silver, I knew this was bad news when they were announced as the ones releasing physical copies. It is surprising they are also screwing over 360 and PS3 owners as well though.
@readyletsgo yeah! statues are sooo outdated technologies... they were invented like back in 40,000 BC. Amiibos are the future!
@KillScottKill
You (assuming you've backed up the game) havent made "it happen". you just paid someone elses marketing campain. Also, you choose to buy something twice, your not entitled to it, read Kickstarters rules for more info about that. I only pay for things that actually exist, Or i would be an investor who actually DOES have something to say about the game instead of just throwing money at random people like kickstarter projects.
I don't care enough about this game to even care about a collectors edition. Of it's brilliant like shovel knight was, then I'll buy the standard edition, if not then I'll use my money on something else
I could care less about a signature and a statue lol. I'm just happy we get the game.
That figurine is epic, but I don't really need it. It feels like it has been forever waiting for this game.
All I cared was the Wii U getting physical copies of the game, which has come true. Not really a special edition type of guy, so meh for this new.
@LilC *couldn't care less.
@ouroborous this, this comment is exactly why this practice is crap. It's an endless cycle of "no one will buy the special edition on wii u" - "well the special edition isn't on wii u so I guess I have to get it on something else."
It's a shame Kamiya may have been right about Inafune...
Why are people blaming Inafune? This sounds more like a publisher thing.
At this point, this is just arbitrariness. The userbase is there, the target audience is there. This is just a "hey, others are doing it, lets join the cool kids club" thing.
Anyways, lost interest in this meh game anyways.
Hopefully ebay has some fair prices for the figure :Y
Wii U still gets all the extra DLC game content just not the figure and special box right? I guess I could buy the PS4 Mighty No. 9 Signature Edition even though I don't have a PS4 but I do have a PS3 and Vita which are cross buy with the PS4 retail version right? Will the Mighty No. 9 Signature Edition be available in stores or would I have to order from a website?
This makes no sense. They're saying the Signature Edition will be an extremely limited run, so surely the Wii U's smaller install base doesn't matter?
Either way, I have a hard time believing there are more people who want this game on an Xbox One than on a Wii U.
Why do we always get screwed over
Who cares if we don't get the signature of Lazy No.1, er, I mean, Inafune? If you own a Nintendo console, you can get almost all of the original games of the real character. The backers are getting ripped-off times two. Shame on you, Inafune!
If I ever get this game it will be if, and only if, the game is good and find it used and cheap, although I might get a better run for my money with a better Mega Man clone or the originals I still don't have. I hope we all learn a lesson from this: never fund has-beens disguised as victims and indies.
I backed this game and even upped my backings. I'm going to have to get this nonetheless, since I do own those other consoles, but I'll be playing it mostly on WiiU.
I just want the game anyway. I have a mega man amiibo thanks.
Yeah, I'm still trying to find out why they're limiting this to just PS4/XB1. If you pre-order this game, you get this DLC plus an artbook and double-sided poster(latter two items aren't in this SE). But that leaves the signature and figurine exclusive to the SE. So why can't they just ship SE to anyone regardless of their platform of choice?? If they run out of stock, then so be it but it's just a weird move to limit this to two platforms. I'll be picking up the Wii U version anyway and this won't affect my purchase decision but a baffling move nonetheless.
It's pretty unfair, but I can't bring myself to give a damn. Inafune couldn't really deliver on his own promises with Mighty No. 9, and it shows...
Yeah I mean, I really wouldn't have gotten it anyway. The figure is cool but I stopped collecting dust collectors awhile back. Oh well thanks for nothing — still buying this for Wii U so I'm happy.
Honestly, I wouldn't want a statue of a character I'm not that invested in.
@brandonbwii Inafune is the one who started the whole thing, he got the money, he doesn't deliver what people almost blindly financed and is letting the publisher to do this outrage. It is Izymone, I mean, Inafune's fault.
Annnnnnd not a single ethereal alpaca avocado was given that day
I have the game preordered on Wii U but I caved and bough the collectors edition for PS4. I'll likely give the PS4 copy to a friend and keep the fig.
Sad to know I can't get that hideous statue and a Wii U game.
@antipop621 hope you get to keep your friend too. You should keep the whole thing, IMO. You really have money to spend without any worries.
I wasn't going to buy the special edition either way (I'm not a big Mega Man fan), but I do think this is the wrong decision. The majority of Mega Man games were on Nintendo platforms, and Nintendo fans tend to be the most receptive to platformers, and classics. He's putting the special edition of Mega Man's successor on every platform except for Mega Man's "home" platform.
@OMC79
I'm just as mad that the special edition isn't coming out for Wii U, but on a side note, why do people believe that Inafune is not delivering what he promised, in terms of the game itself? I wasn't backing games/following kickstarter at the time of Mighty No. 9's kickstarter, so if anything happened I missed it.
maybe this is because of nintendo fans being really into collectibles like amiibo, thus making them wanna buy this edition just for the figure hehe
@TrueWiiMaster That thing is no Mega Man successor, no matter who did it. Is like saying Taekwon V is Mazinger's successor, maybe he should sell the game in Korea, they love knock-offs.
@Kogorn733 Check the video he released (I think it was released yesterday) and you see why I said he didn't deliver, the game itself is not what he didn't deliver but something up to the expectations.
Why do you guys want to play this when you have Azure Striker Gunvolt which was made by the same people and looks infinitely better?
I just wanna play the game ... Big Mega Man Fan
I think this game will be a big disappointment unfortunately...
Something I just can't understand is why someone would spend the same amount of money for a 30-year-old concept of a game that looks like a 64-bit game instead of buying something like Splatoon or Smash Brothers? Is like if someone would had released the spiritual successor for Breakout keeping the same goals, the same length but using 16-bit graphics and sell it in disc format for the XBOX at the same price of a Halo or Fable game. It's just ridiculous.
@GearsOfWarU If you are a big MegaMan fan, stick with the originals. Even the Gunvolt games and other clones are more worthy.
@Reusinck oh what ever, screw off. Comcept was a no rep indie developer in 2013 when the project started with no credit and not enough money without a publisher. Early adopters absolutely made this game happen - unlike say Bloodstained which clearly didn't need help given that it already has secured publishing rights.
@OMC79
It's being hailed as the successor, and it has a very similar play style. Even if it's Mega Man's successor in name only, though, I still think it's strange for its special edition to skip Mega Man's "home" platform.
Capcom is fine, is not staying in the past and learns from mistakes, especially from others. If they'd stuck with the Mega Man games and releasing 5 fighting games a year and nothing else like the fans wanted, It would have joined SNK in its bankruptcy and road to oblivion adventure. No matter what some fans want or how much money those fans are willing to give away, there is not the same market for a game like this as there was in 1987, not even as it was in 2005.
@TrueWiiMaster What I meant is that it will never succeed Mega Man as a legend or in popularity, sorry for not elaborating on that. The term "spiritual successor" is awfully abused. Anything can be a "spiritual successor" these days.
A game like this should not even have a physical release for any platform, it should be a budget download.
@Quorthon : Prevented where? I got nearly all Nintendo collector's editions on Wii U.
And besides.. Mario Kart 8 Limited Edition is still for sale at 30% off.
Here is 4 stores that dropped price on MK 8 Limited Edition, because it was a hard sell.

@KillScottKill Comcept might have been the no rep indie developer, but they didn't started the Kickstarter it was Inafune. He had a name that would have gotten any real investor and he did, he already had his own company: Inti Creates. He wasn't fired from Capcom when he started this, he just got his games canceled as Capcom denied the use of their IP for the abominations he was developing, Inti Creates served as an independent studio for Capcom since the Zero series, it was not even like Clover that was internal. It is the same case as with Bloodstained, maybe worse.
Equality gets the nix yet again.
@Liam_Doolan
Lol, you're complaining that it's an exclusive to all the other systems but you don't complain that it's an exclusive to US residents? That's the real 'scandal' if you ask me.
And no, I wouldn't have bought that anyway. I'm keen for Might No. 9 but I hate special editions. I'd rather prefer every video game to be released with only ONE standard version. SE's and LE's are only a way to steal your money, because you only get worthless crap back in return for the higher price. I never bought one of those and I never will. Don't get why anyone would do that, if you want to throw away your money, you can donate it to me instead.
People just want the game! That's it! If they want the figure they will find it on Ebay or Amazon.
Very ouch, but I can't say I blame them. Besides, I've got a much cooler Mega Man-"inspired" figure anyway.
@TreesenHauser
I am almost dying of jealousy. The one I wanted most!
"It's meh from me."
"And it's meh from him."
The WiiU has the lower install base. However, Nintendo also has the most passionate and loyal customers. I could envision this collector's edition selling the best on the WiiU. The blue bombers likeness is still strong with Smash, an amiibo and the Gunvolt games. Personally, I'm not saddened nor offended by this news.
Now I can't justify why this isn't coming to Wii U. Also to be honest, a lot of the PS4/Xbox backers don't care for the statue at all. Most of them claim that it looks too generic like a McDonald's toy. Their words, not mine. I'm not interested in it myself, but it's pretty damn stupid not to give the Wii U fans their chance at it.
Look on the bright side though, Mega Man Amiibo blows that statue out the water.
Wii U poor sales are actually a non-factor for a title like this if they do plan to keep the numbers limited. They tend to sell out due to the rarity regardless of system, especially for those who missed out on the PS4/One preorders. Now if they plan to print over 9000 of them or something like that than yeah it wouldn't be worth it.
I'm still trying to figure out why all of a sudden there's so much hate for Mighty No.9 here. I'm a little confused. The game looks like it's fun and I'm trying to understand why some are saying he hasn't delivered his promises. The only clearly defined criticism I've seen (for a game not even out yet no less) is that it's graphically not Splatoon or Smash Bros. Okay... So what? I thought Nintendo fans of all people would understand that graphics aren't the end all or be all of games, considering that Nintendo games have been graphically underwhelming since the N64 days (but made up for by being visually appealing.) If graphics are the only reason people are suddenly hating on this game, then perhaps I was mistaken when I assumed the general Nintendo community didn't care that much about graphics, especially given that's the usual response when someone bashes the Wii U and 3DS for being weaker than the PS4 and Vita. (Which I agree, the systems being weaker doesn't make them any lesser.) Honestly the magnitude of negative comments for this game caught me off guard, weren't people excited for it? What suddenly changed? Why is NOW a "meh game" and other such things? I'm confused. I'm going to assume that the hate is just the result of jaded Nintendo fans lashing out against something that I'm fairly certain Inafune isn't really responsible for anyway.
The other criticism I saw was someone mentioning that the game didn't meet expectations... Whose expectations exactly? What were people expecting? I was under the impression it was merely meant to be a successor to Mega Man. Looking at the videos, it seems that expectation was met in spades. Also why is Azure Striker Gunvolt "better", aside from it supposedly being visually more appealing? How do people know NO.9 is going to be bad when it's not out yet?
As for the issue itself, It sucks that we aren't getting the special edition but to be quite honest, is there really anyone here that bothered by it? It looks like the kind of thing you'd get for a pre-order. Backers I can understand, but everyone else who is annoyed by this should ask themselves honestly if an unnecessary trinket really worth that much outrage. It doesn't seem worth it to me.
TLDR version: Meh. A bit disappointed in the Nintendo community (or Nintendolife community) right now if the comments here are any indication of what the community is like right now.
Note: I didn't use the @ function to respond to specific people because in this case I'm not responding to specific people but rather what seems to be a consensus. At least in this discussion. Also note i'm not defending the game because I haven't played it, it just seems to me like there's a lot of venom here towards this game.
I don't understand the comments regarding this game and Iga's game that surely the fan base for those games is strongest on Wii U. Yes, they got started, and got big on NES and SNES, but those consoles sold 60 and 50 million each, so it's quite obvious to me that most of the Mega Man and Castlevania fans from those systems DON'T have a Wii U considering it's sold under 10 million so far.
I never get these collectors edition with physical tat, so maybe it's just me, but I don't see why people get so worked up over it. Surely the game itself is what you really want?
Stuff like this is to be expected at this point, sadly. I'm just grateful we're even getting the game at all.
@KillScottKill
I dont like being told to screw off. Knowing it comes from someone who buy a game twice because he wants his doll makes it less hurtfull though. Knowing it comes from someone who gave money away without ANY garantee what will happen to the product OR the money, makes it even a little funny.
You should be happy, because you're getting a game twice for only double the price!
@beautifulstrong you buy it while I boycott this BS.
This doesn't affect me. Too bad for those nintendopeople who did want this...
How is that fair?
