Re: Video: New Metroid Prime: Federation Force Trailer Arrives, and It's Still Fighting Dislikes

bitleman

@BLD You don't know what you're talking about. Pikmin are small budget games compared to Metroid and Other M was a huge budget game (with very expensive cinematics made by a specialized studio), was massively printed for the US market and it flopped hard. That's why you could find it for less than $10 few time after the release.
And it has nothing to do with the quality of the game. The name Metroid does not sale and does not justify a big budget anymore. And honestly I think the Metroid fanbase totally deserve this for being so awful. Sakamoto should stick with the Rhythm Heaven games who are played by people who actually enjoy videogames.

Re: Review: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (New 3DS / SNES)

bitleman

@VanillaLake Don't be hypocritical you were implying it. And your statement was wrong anyway. If SF5 was released on WiiU it would have been bashed for being such a mediocre and casual game. SF4 skipped the Nintendo system too and got a metacritic score of 94 (20 more points than SF5) so you'll have to find another excuse than it's just Nintendo fanboys hating.

@pandarino Ok then stop praising mediocre games just because they're PS4 exclusives and you won't look like a blind fanboy.

Re: Review: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (New 3DS / SNES)

bitleman

@pandarino
The target of 2 millions copies sold was for March. It still hasn't passed it accordng to Capcom:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/finance/million.html
Also Street Fighter 4 sold 3,4 millions copies and SF2 sold 5 millions so this SF5 is clearly a flop. It only did well at EVO because Capcom (or Sony) paid to impeach the SF4 tournament to happen to force the community to buy SF5 (glad it didn't work). So they deserve all the hate possible like Nintendo deserved the hate when they tried to impeach the Melee tournament.

The game itself is not good at all. No arcade atmosphere, big loadings, bad online, bad balancing and lack of depth (crush counter are way too powerful). I'm a big fan of Street Fighter but I regret spending 60 euros for this game and I'm not the only one since the user score for this game on Metacritic is 3.3. I tell to people if they want to play a fighting game with actual depth they should play Street Fighter 4 or Smash Bros on WiiU or 3DS.
The worst thing is SF5 has been so rushed and it flopped so badly we probably won't see another Capcom fighting game ever. It's really a shame. Sony shouldn't destroy strong japanese IP like that.

Re: Random: Fan Finds a North American N64 DD Development Unit

bitleman

@MitchVogel Discs didn't save the Saturn. The problem wasn't cartridges, it was Sony buying a big part of the industry with their big wallet. FFVII could have been possible on the N64. It would have probably been a different game though, with full 3D environments instead of still images.

Re: Devil's Third Online Servers To Close At The End Of The Year

bitleman

I'm amazed by the amount of undeserved hate this game got. I'm sure it would got a green metascore if it was released on Xbox One/PS4 considering the gameplay is quite close to Uncharted but faster. The main problem is it's a japanese game trying to offer an alternative on the shooters market. And western industry don't like that. Stay in your niche corner japanese industry and nothing bad will happen to you.

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)

bitleman

@Uncensored Atlus developers also deserve to be blamed. They made really questionable choices about this game and they had no chance to reach the western market. That's also the problem of Nintendo of Japan who let complete freedom to their developers without thinking about the western market.
You know if Persona games aren't censored it's because there's nothing to censor in those games. They're low risk commercial games for a wide audience since Persona 3.

Re: No Nintendo Titles In May NPD, But The 3DS Has Now Sold 60 Million Units Worldwide

bitleman

@Kmno I never assumed that and I own a Vita. But there's nothing on it that come close to games like Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Bravely Default or Shin Megami Tensei 4. The Vita library is mostly japanese shovelwares that are giving a terrible reputation to the japanese industry. Alos Sony is paying exclusivity for franchises like God Eater to let them die while they could doing great on the 3DS where the Monster Hunter games sell millions.

Re: No Nintendo Titles In May NPD, But The 3DS Has Now Sold 60 Million Units Worldwide

bitleman

@Yasume A large part of the Vita library are cheap phones games. Retail wise the 3DS crushed it. The Vita games are completely dead in USA and Europe. It's been years we haven't seen a Vita game in a NPD report. What is also impressive is the fact the WiiU sold 20 millions more games than the Vita, while being released one year later and without any third party support. That tells a lot about what the public think about the Vita library.

Re: Study Suggests Rising Smartphone Ownership Among Kids Is Hitting Nintendo Hard

bitleman

It's delusional to think that phenomenon will only hit the handhelds market. In Japan, smartphones aren't just replacing the handhelds market. It's also replacing the home consoles market. The home consoles market isn't as healthy as the medias are picturing. Lot of publishers are living a terrible gen with the PS4/XboxOne, especially the japanese publishers. It's getting harder and harder to convince people to spend $60 for a game when they can have access to dozens of games for few dollars. It's only hitting the handhelds market now because it's a younger audience. But when this audience will grow up it will be hard to convince them to spend $60 for one videogame. That's why Sony and Microsoft spend so much money on hardware and marketing. The console market is a money sinker at this point. Even the biggest publishers on consoles aren't confident about them:
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/there-may-be-no-consoles-in-the-future-ea-exec-say/1100-6439591/

It was really stupid from the western medias to bash Nintendo like they did with the 3DS and the WiiU. Nintendo always tried to bring new audience to the console market. Killing Nintendo is basically killing a source of people for the consoles market. And in the end it will backfire over the rest of the industry. It already backfired over the rest of the japanese industry.

Re: Kirby: Planet Robobot Continues Solid Run in Japanese Charts as Hardware Sales Drop

bitleman

@Gamer83 No. Starfox tanked because it's a rail shooter released in retail in 2016. Not because of gimmicks. We are living in an era of gimmicks. Most people these days play on their smartphones through a touchscreen or play on their PS4 with a touchpad and a big colored LED in the middle of the controller.
Starfox Zero was a commercial suicide since the begining because of its genre. They should have turned it into a TPS.

Re: Monster Hunter Set To Overtake Street Fighter In Lifetime Sales This Year

bitleman

@Dr_Lugae Yeah it's shipped. Capcom is probably playing with the words since shipped also means sold to retailers:

http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/05/09/street-fighter-v-ships-1-4-million-copies-on-ps4-and-pc-brings-series-total-to-38-million/

With the NPD, Mediacrate and Steam numbers we have there is no chance the game sold 1 million copies. And it's out of any charts, it's not even in the top 100 of the most played games on Steam at this moment. So I don't think it will have any leg.
It's not just a disaster for Street Fighter but also for Capcom and the whole fighting genre. You thought the SF3 era was a dark age for the genre? You've seen nothing with the one we're entering in.

Re: Monster Hunter Set To Overtake Street Fighter In Lifetime Sales This Year

bitleman

Between 1991 and 1995 Street Fighter was the most popular franchise. Everybody was playing Street Fighter and it saved the career of the Super Nintendo. Now the franchise is a big mess. Street Fighter 5 tanked, it failed to create a market for the fighting game genre and all the key people for fighting games at Capcom are leaving the company. It's such a waste. I don't think we'll see another Capcom fighting game this gen. Except maybe on smartphones.

Monster Hunter is now the only franchise that keeps Capcom alive, until Resident Evil 7 but since RE6 failed to make money for Capcom we are sure of nothing. So I hope they'll manage it better than what they did with Street Fighter.

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

bitleman

Sony closing Evolution, Microsoft closing Lionhead, Disney closing their AAA studio. The industry is clearly slimming down. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo closed Retro studio or Camelot.

Re: Star Fox Zero Makes Modest Debut in Japanese Charts as 3DS Holds Steady

bitleman

@Peach64 The bad sales have nothing to do with the quality of the game. It's just releasing a rail shooter in 2016 in retail was suicidal. But now Nintendo has an audit I think this kind of incident will happen less often. They will listen more the marketers and the bookkeeper instead of letting the developers doing anything they want. It's not normal that most Nintendo games these days are hated even before their release. And it's mostly because that problem. The Iwata era is over and developers need to have creative limits like how other videogames companies are run. Making more games for critics and the market and less for themselves.

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

bitleman

@NinChocolate You have to keep in mind a huge part of the western industry want to get Nintendo out. Because Nintendo don't want to follow the AAA trend that already destroyed a big part of the japanese industry. They see Nintendo as a competitor who try to bring a part of the audience to something else than AAA, not a partner. Expect big smear campain whatever the NX will be.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Shows Off the New 3DS Improvements in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

bitleman

@Mr_Zurkon It's a great series, maybe the best japanese series of all time, but I think there is a big lack of tutorial in the games to tell you how to play. There are a lot of things to know about the defensive gameplay and the games don't explain that at all. There is also a misunderstanding about what the game is. Lot of people think Monster Hunter are RPG when in fact they are pure action games based on skills and reflex. You can have the best stats in the game, if you haven't learnt how to use a weapon or how to deal with a monster you will be crushed. It's not about your character gaining experience it's about the player gaining experience.
